Hanelie Blue Lagoon Kayak and Snorkel What an amazing day! J was our guide and he is amazing. We had arranged for him to pickus up in Princeville. We then rode to Hanelei where we enjoyed kayaking up the river and then out into the Ocean to Hideaway beach where we lunched and snorkeled . J regaled us with tons of Hawaiin/Polynesian history and Island lore. It was a blast. Pro Tip: bring at least a liter of water each, plenty of sun screen and waterand be prepared to use some muscles you might not usually work!

Superbly helpful young entrepreneur genuinely interested in assisting his customers. Michael easily mult-tasked with two client groups, instructions, and loading of kayaks. Highly recommend! We rented the premium kayak for $95. Included dry bag, life preserver. Bring plenty of your own water for the hike to Secret Falls!

Easy to book, communication through email was great. Izzy, our guide, was phenomenal. Super personable, knowledgeable and incredible guide on our tour today. She was all encompassing! Making sure everyone had everything they needed including making sure everyone was safe and having a great time. Highly recommend this company for its attention to detail! Thank you Izzy for making our day amazing!

This was one of the highlights from our time on Kauai! We did the Wailua River Sacred Falls Kayak/Hike adventure. It is a 2 mile kayak upstream and then a 1.5 mile hike to the falls. This is a must do!! My husband and I have kayaked before but others on our tour were slightly older and not as experienced but they were able to complete both the kayaking and hiking so I would say this is doable for a range of fitness levels. The river kayaking is very easy and laid back. The hike does require you to go through a few streams as well as some muddy and/or uneasy surfaces so just be aware. A couple members in our group used walking sticks to help navigate the sometimes slippery terrain. The waterfall at the end though is stunning!! The water is freezing cold, but you made it all that way so I definitely recommend wearing a swimsuit so you can go in to say you did! :) Our tour guide Izzy was absolutely incredible!! She was so generous and shared so much knowledge along the way about Kauai and its history. I won't spoil anything, but she definitely has a few surprises along the hike when it comes to the local flora and fauna. She was so friendly and welcoming and told stories and even shared her local recommendations (all of which were fantastic). This tour also gives you sandwiches when you get to the falls (which I did not see other tours doing) and it was nice to enjoy a little lunch while appreciating the beauty of the scenery. Izzy absolutely elevated the experience of going to the falls and we so appreciated her and would highly recommend her if you get a chance to take one of her tours!!

We took the Wailua Secret Falls tour with Harrison as our guide. He did a great job providing kayaking instruction which we needed, this was our first time. It's about 2 miles each way. The hike while mostly flat was a bit challenging with a stream crossing and some rocks along the way. A boardwalk covers some area f the trail. The hike is really beautiful with lots of trees, plants, flowers and a few birds. Harrison shared interesting information about the plants and wildlife as well as some cultural and historical highlights. The waterfall was amazing thanks to the recent rains. The sandwiches were hearty and included with the tour. And, of course, there were chickens waiting for some food. This tour is a great value, a bit strenuous but worth the effort!

My teenage son and I shared an open top double kayak in a group of six people led by our guide Mike for 18 miles from Ha'ena to Polihale. It was arduous for me, a physical challenge on par with natural childbirth. I'm consistently active in daily life but not athletically conditioned like the rest of the group was. That said, fitness is not enough, and I'm glad that we both had ocean kayaking experience. Neither of us normally experiences motion sickness so I'm very thankful that we took the advice of the staff in the shop and took Dramamine the day before and the morning of the trip, and that I brought some along with me, which we both needed. A combination of clothing and aggressive use of sunscreen is a must. I wish I had consumed more calories throughout the morning, but I had stowed our snacks in an inconvenient location that made their retrieval time-consuming. Lesson learned. Because we were paddling through stronger than normal headwinds, I had to lean forward into each stroke and suffered heartburn. As I've never had heartburn except while pregnant, I was unprepared. I would have had an easier time paddling if I had brought along some Tums or Rolaids. Even more important, I wish I had brought my inhaler. I don't normally have any breathing trouble on the water or while traveling, so I did my normal morning treatments and left it at that. Three hours later I noticed significant lung constriction that made paddling much more difficult. Apparently the mold level was quite high, and we were weren't far enough offshore to escape it. I really should have had the inhaler with me. Two changes along the way made our experience better. First, I started looking up more. The Na Pali coast is a strikingly beautiful slice of Creation, and the cliffs and coastline not only lifted my spirit with their beauty but also encouraged me by marking our progress, which is difficult to see against the open water. Second, we took Mike's suggestion to hang back more. With more space for my son to experiment with working the rudder and more leeway to have a not-exactly-straight path without encroaching on anyone, we gained more ground with less paddling and less stress. The instructions Mike gave were spot-on, but there was little of it because this is not a trip for beginners. Instructions included rudder use, righting the kayak after a flip, and getting in and out without flipping. You will need to get in and out to perform Necessary Bodily Functions in the ocean water. Why did we choose the 18-mile version instead of the 10-mile version? I'm physically more suited to the shorter trek, but I wanted my son to have this experience to remember. Honestly, that's not a great reason, especially as the asthma attack I nearly had at the end is not the kind of epic memory I was aiming for. The longer trek, the traditional one, is definitely more beautiful and includes multiple sea caves that we paddled into. I'm told that the shorter trek (which I haven't done) has fewer caves and no cliffs but much more wildlife. Initially I was a bit disappointed about missing out on the dolphin encounters I could have had, until a large turtle swam up to our kayak in one of the caves. We were resting at the time, so it was his doing and not ours, and it was our joy to quietly receive his attention for a moment. The humans on the journey were consistently positive and supportive. I'm not just referring to our guide, blond Mike, but also to the rest of the staff, especially ginger Mike, and to the other visitors. Most of the time, though, we we too far apart for any conversation to be audible over the roaring of the surf, so be prepared to dig deep if you take up this challenge. There were moments when I questioned my choice, but I'm glad we did it. Thanks, Micco, for the adventure of a lifetime.

I had the best time kayaking and hiking to Sacred Falls with Izzy who was so fun and full of interesting info. Would definitely do it again but would request her.

Omg Izzy gave us the best tour I've ever experienced in my life! Kayaking was so much fun, and has absolutely stunning views. The hike was super chill and adventurous. The whole time, Izzy was sharing really cool Hawaiian stories and funny jokes. When we got to the waterfall, Izzy was very accommodating and took awesome photos of us. Oh, and the lunch was SO good. Best part? BABY BIRD! (Going to let Izzy give y'all that surprise). The pineapple at the end was such a lovely way to wrap up the day. Felt so happy and chill at the end. TYSM to the team & Izzy!

When traveling with young children (8 years old and under), selecting activities that cater to the entire group can be challenging. Our experience with Kayak Kauai and its knowledgeable guide, Justice, proved to be the ideal solution for our family adventure. With a keen focus on safety and engaging our little ones in the educational aspects of the trip, we explored Kauai in a unique and unforgettable manner. For an unparalleled Kauai excursion, choose Kayak Kauai and request Justice as your guide to discover the stunning secret falls. And to Justice, Harley says thank you, Tarzan.

So many people talk about kayaking the Wailua River and hiking to Secret Falls. We didn't get a chance to do this on our last trip, but my youngest and I tackled this on this trip! Our guide, Ronda, arrived a couple minutes after our tour start time at 1pm. The morning guide said she'd be along "in island time." Once she got there, she took the time to tell us a little about herself, went around our group and had us each introduce ourselves and share a few words. She took the time to memorize all of our names! She also explained to us as all the other tours were heading out, that she liked to hang back and let everyone go do their thing so we can experience the falls privately as just our group. This girl knows what she's doing! It was about a two mile kayaking journey up the Wailua River with stops intermittently along the way for our "kayak kisses" so Ronda could tell us about the history and other aspects of the island. We were almost in our own little version of Survivor, thinking up ways we could survive out there and what we would need. It was honestly very cool. Once we got the end of the kayaking journey, we were given walking sticks for the moderate 1 mile hike to Secret Falls. There are a couple of areas where you have to cross through water, but nothing higher than the knees, at that time. The hike was beautiful! Ronda pointed out the Hawaiian Woodrose, kukui nuts, which we got to crack open and have a small sample, we washed our hands with awapuhi from the awapuhi plant, etc. it was such a cool adventure. We met the local songbird and dug to find worms for him to eat. He ate right from our hands! He actually landed on my hand and looked at me for a couple seconds! We saw cows on the journey home as well. Secret Falls is amazing. We had a blast swimming around there and resting from the journey. We met a lot of great people in our tour. It was like we all became a little family. We packed up and hiked back to our kayaks and headed back down the Wailua for the journey home. This time the wind was against us, so it was literally like paddling upstream both ways lol! This was such an amazing experience. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out because there was so much! I would say, if you're doing the 1pm tour, don't have any other plans the rest of the day. You don't want to be in a rush to get out of there. Our 5 hour tour ended up being close to 7 hours. It was nice because on the way back the motorized vessels were no longer on the river, so we didn't have to worry about other traffic. I'd also recommend having dinner for that night figured out ahead of time because most places locally close at 8pm. We were able to grab dinner from a spot about 10 minutes prior to their closing. They recommend tennis shoes or hiking boots, but my daughter and I used our water socks/reef shoes and while there were a couple times when we were bouldering I would have liked to have better shoes, ultimately it wasn't an issue. Ronda gives you an opportunity to unplug from the world, get yourself on island time, and take in all the beauty Kauai has to offer. Take it!

As soon as we unloaded the bus we parked our kayaks, packed up our belongings in water proof bags and set sail. Haha! If you're not a swimmer, they do provide life jackets. We kayaked along the River for about 45 minutes and then parked next to the hiking trail. Hiking sandals are a must need for this excursion by the way. I made the mistake of wearing hiking shoes which got all messed up in the mud. Yes, folks! When I say there is mud, be prepared to get your clothes wet and muddy. There is a part during the rocky hike where you will need to walk in the river waist deep to get to the other side. If you're not a strong hiker, a walking stick will help you keep your balance. I've seen a few people fall from the slippery rocks so make sure to keep a steady pace. With that in mind, you'll make your way to the beautiful waterfall that awaits you at the end. Picture worthy! For those who've never been here before, keep in mind of the time you'll spend here. As I mentioned earlier, it was about 5 and half hours long from start to finish. Kayaking there takes almost an hour. Hiking takes just as long. With all the slippery rocks and the mud, please don't wear your Sundays best. You will get dirty! Bring lots of water to stay hydrated and some snacks and a light lunch to keep your energy up. You will get tired hiking and kayaking back to base camp. Overall, this experience was pretty awesome! Definitely made some memories here that my friends and I will share forever.

Our guide for the day was "K-man". He was awesome! He had a great personality, was very knowledgeable and was funny. He was also great with names; he remembered everyone's, and he made it a point to make conversation with everyone single one of us. Our adventure started off by meeting at the office/pick up location. Then we loaded up into a van and made the short drive to the slipway. There we selected kayaks and were given oars and life jackets. Once we got situated, we hit the water. The weather that day was perfect; the sun was out with some clouds, and there was a light, constant breeze. Our journey on the water was a beautiful one. The water was cool, the scenery was green. I'll admit, the kayaking distance was a bit challenging. Maybe a bit more so as my husband and I are competitive and we were nearly racing with another couple. LOL! Once we reached shore, we gathered up and made our way to the hiking path. Honestly, the hike itself is not hard, with the exception of a few spots that may require teamwork/assistance. (**READ TIPS BELOW) Once we reached the waterfall, most of us went into the water. We stayed there for about 20-30 minutes. Our guide never rushed us. He sat back and let us enjoy ourselves. It was only when we all gathered up again that we headed back, same hike in reverse back to the kayaks. Once in the kayaks it was the same way back as well. The scenery was VERY beautiful. Several pictures were taken. Overall we had a great day. We would definitely recommend to anyone who has never been to Kauai and to anyone who is interested in being surrounded by beautiful scenery. TIPS: - [ ] Wear good shoes! The terrain can be unstable due to river rocks, tree roots, mud, and uneven ground. Your feet WILL get soaked and the ground is unstable. My husband and I both opted to wear sneakers that we were ready to retire. When we were done we threw them away. Another couple wore aqua shoes and they said they were extremely uncomfortable: good for water, bad for the rough terrain. Another couple wore brand new hiking boots and they became water logged. - [ ] Wear sunscreen!! Even if it's overcast, the harsh island sun will magnify through the clouds. - [ ] Sunglasses and a hat/visor is a wise choice. **if you wear a hat or visor, it may create a blind spot. Keep your head up! One person in our group hit their head twice on the same tree branch! - [ ] Wear clothing you can get wet. You will get wet from the waist down from the kayaking and hike. - [ ] Wear swimwear underneath your clothing. When you get to the waterfall, there is a pool of water you are able to swim in. - [ ] Bring a backpack/secure bag with water and snacks! You will need it! - [ ] Bring towels and leave them in the car. At the end of the day, when stripping off your wet shoes and socks the towels come in handy. *** For reference, our groups ages ranged from 52 to approximately early 70's.

This is not something I would do with my parents who are elderly. I think the rowing alone would have worn them out. But it's the perfect trip for families with young kids. Thank you Ali'i Kayaks for a wonderful experience!

You pull your kayak (on wheels) to the launch site and push off from there; it's definitely doable. We opted to go without a guide and simply followed the provided map, which was very straightforward. However, in my opinion, the activity wasn't worth the price. Paddling two miles each way was pretty strenuous, especially with kids. The hike to Secret Falls was extremely muddy, particularly after rain, and we saw lots of people slipping and falling. It's not a huge problem, but you'll definitely want to plan for a shower afterwards. They do provide a large wet bag, but ours smelled strongly of body odor from repeated use without proper cleaning--definitely unpleasant. If I could do it over again, I would have canceled and just explored the state park on foot. For the amount of effort required, I felt the experience was overpriced.

The scenery along the river and hike was stunning, and the whole experience felt like the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Our guide, Michael, really made the trip special. He shared so much interesting information about the river, the history of the area, the plants, and the wildlife--and kept us laughing the whole way with his endless supply of dad jokes (now upgraded with 10% more!). If you're looking for a unique way to experience the natural beauty of Kauai, this tour is it. Come for the adventure, stay for Michael's humor. Highly recommended!

Our guide Kyle was amazing! Since it was off season, he took about 8 persons, 2 tandam kayaks. One guide can take 12 persons maximum. It was great that our group was smaller. The Wailua River is really serene and calm, so both persons forward paddle, versus the back person back paddling in more rapids like Colorado or Sacramento River. We paddled 1 mile to the hiking, and 1 mile back. My arms were a little sore afterwards. The highlight is the hike to the water fall, which is about 0.2 mi in, 0.2 mi out, however it took about 30-40 min one way. Some areas are bush whacking, river crossing (bring water shoes like Teva), some very muddy so you have to slow down, some have wood planks built. When you the to the waterfall, it is gorgeous, and we packed our own lunch to enjoy for about 30-40 minutes at the falls. There were no bugs as we went in mid-January. Morning tours are more cold, so bring a light wind jacket or rain jacket. Afternoon tours are warmer, but you risk having bugs and sunburn. Our guide Kyle, has been feeding this bird along the hiking path for 8 years. He is tame and will come for photos. I'm a bird feeder and watcher, so major kudos to Kyle! The scenery of the hike and kayak trip was surreal and will blow your mind. The photos don't do it justice. You will take a van from kayak launch at Wailua River about 3 minutes back to base camp. Kayak Wailua provides you a water proof bag for your belongings, and a cooler bag for your lunch. They also have a locker for other stuff you don't want to bring along. I love this alot, and the tamed wild bird was the big plus!

Since there were an odd number of us, she gave us her single kayak so I was able to use that on the way out and then switched with my brother on the way back. It was really nice to basically have that private tour! Unfortunately because of the rain and rising waters, we weren't able to do the hike & waterfall portion of the trip but the kayaking along the river was really nice and enjoyable. Mikayla did take us out of the kayaks and show us some of the surrounding area and shared with us information about the different plants. It was fun! We only got a downpour on the way back for the marina for about 10min but that was part of the experience! We didn't eat breakfast before and do actually the length of time worked well for us. We left around 7:30am ish and made it back around 9;30am. The company refunded us 50% since weather made the hike portion impossible. Totally recommend bringing food though if you do the full thing:) and bring shoes good for hiking. Mikayla was friendly and helped get my two siblings (who hadn't kayaked before) adjusted and paddling in a straight line rather than zigzagging across. She was a great guide and would definitely recommend her! We learned a lot. And she gave us more recommendations around the island for the rest of our trip.

We'd never done anything like this before, but from the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at ease. During our tour, the guides mentioned that the same company that designs ski lifts across the country engineered their zip lines -- that alone boosted our confidence in the safety and professionalism of the entire setup. You can tell they take their safety protocols seriously, without sacrificing any of the fun. The tour includes five incredible zip lines with breathtaking views -- you're literally flying across the same backdrops used in movies like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. It's unreal. One of the highlights was the 25-foot-deep swimming hole, complete with a mini zip line that lets you zip and splash right into the water. Our daughters loved it, and honestly, so did we! A massive shoutout to our guides -- Julia, Zeek, and Ryker. They were fun, knowledgeable, and created a super positive, relaxed environment that made the entire experience unforgettable. If you're visiting Kauai and want something adventurous, beautiful, safe, and genuinely memorable, I highly recommend Outfitters Kauai. We'll be talking about this day for years.
