My husband (41 yrs old) and I (40) did the waterfall rappelling on our recent vacation to Kauai. It was the first activity we did there, and we were both so glad! I was pretty nervous at first, because I'm a bit afraid of water. The dry run we did wasn't scary at all, but that's because I'm someone who isn't scared of heights and readily trusts equipment. It was a little scary doing the first (30-ft) waterfall, but it went smoothly and it wasn't as slippery or cold as I thought it might be. The hike down to the second waterfall was super fun. Our guide knew a lot about plants, so we learned all about them as we passed. The waterfall itself looked much larger (and flatter) than the first one. I was pretty nervous standing at the top of it. I decided to rappel down the center, even though I knew there was an option to go farther to the side and be less scared. I'm glad I chose the harder path because I feel more accomplished, but if I were to do this activity a second time I'd absolutely go to the side. The waterfall really pummels you (including your head) for at least half the distance. So that part wasn't fun for me (a water scaredy-cat). But I lived! My husband and I both ended up with a few bumps. Even though he's a very rugged, athletic person. But it was worth it to both of us. Guides were fantastic, ensuring everything was clear to us during the explanations. A very exhilerating experience! read more

Mitch, our guide was awesome. Fun hike, not very intense. It gets a little steep in spots but you have ropes and steps to make it easier. Waterfalls were great with a nive swimming pool at the bottom of both. Mitch is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and makes the hike enjoyable. read more

First of all, this is not an activity it's an adventure. No one in our group wanted or can join me so had to do it on my own. We are a small group of 6 and was lucky enough to have a very kind couple(alice & bart) to have recorded me. That being said, Coming from someone who has no experience rappelling and has fear of heights why would I do this? Because I believe this is must do when in Kauai! Da life outdoors staff were beyond exceptional! Naan was so patient in giving instructions/directions without showing frustration to a nervous wrecked me. He was is with at the top of the waterfall and without him for sure I would have chickened out. He just said "don't overthink it or you'll say I should have done it!" And Matt was a the bottom despite the loud sound of the waterfall hearing him scream his cues, guidance and motivation on the way down was reassuring. Both of them of them made me feel safe, and supported me in achieving this waterfall rappel once in a lifetime experience. They were so genuine and really will push you to get through it, I hope they feel rewarded enough knowing that they are a part of people achieving a milestone or bucket list goal. Waterfalls were great and the experience was priceless. I would say only one negative- price for spectators is overpriced. My friend and I had an awesome experience rappelling for the first time here! With our guides Nan and Kate we felt safe and well supported. They had good demos for understanding what to do. We progressed from easier to more difficult walls smoothly: first a dry wall (where I lost control but learned that it's not a big deal if I do), then a short and shallow waterfall, and finally a longer and steeper waterfall. We took videos of each other rappelling down and they look amazing! The hike to the waterfalls and the general surroundings are beautiful. Just beware that there are bugs (I got a handful of bug bites). Nan and Kate took photos of us during the experience. You can preview the photos and then pay $25 to keep all the photos. This was our favorite activity on Kauai ever, just before the zodiac boat ride that went all the way in &through the caves on the Nepali coastline! That was pretty epic too! Ok, the waterfall rappelling was awesome. We did a lot of activities on Kauai (Float Tube Ride, Zip Lining, Kayaking, Waimea Canyon), but this was the most fun and memorable activity we did. Nothing like it before. Two guides, Matt and Renan (bread guy?!), did an awesome job. There is a safety discussion and practice cliff you do prior to the waterfalls. They both did a good job explaining everything and making sure everyone was comfortable. There is a short hike and at that time, the guides were good at pointing out some interesting plant life. You quickly arrive at the first waterfall - a 30ft. They split the group, so you can ensure to get pictures from the bottom of others in your party. Matt and Nan were very enthusiastic and encouraging for the group. Lots of happy cheers and shouts! Then you get to the 60ft waterfall. Much more intense. There were two options to take. The left side of the waterfall where the water is light. And the middle where it was full force. I was the only fool in the group that took the middle. Glad, I did and would recommend if you are comfortable. The sheer force of the water hitting you when you go down is something I won't forget. If you are comfortable leaning over a cliff knowing you are safely secured, this is the activity for you. Highly, highly recommend!!!! read more

The waterfall rappel is an amazing experience I was able to capture with my GoPro attached to their helmet. I signed up solo as no one in my family was brave enough. The water was very warm (July) my only regret was not wearing their wetsuit shirt they offered, not because the water was cold, but because the waterfall almost tore my t-shirt off. 4/27/16 This was the most fun I've had on the island THUS FAR! The staff is amazing!!! Dundee, Paa (spelling?), and Kelsey did a great job giving us a demo of how to rappel. I am TERRIFIED of heights, but I felt fully confident with the expert staff there to help me. Tanya had this motherly feel so I felt really safe knowing she was at the bottom of the waterfall coaching me through. As you're rappelling one of the staff responsible for you is instructing you on what to do, where to put your foot, etc. Mostly you are trying to figure all that out yourself but when it comes to tough parts they help you out. Rappelling with The Hawaiian Dundee was the best thing we did in Kauai! My husband and I are adrenaline junkees so this was right up our alley. The guide and his wife have several years of experience doing this and they're ALL ABOUT safety so there was never a time I didn't feel safe. They give you an intensive training session on dry ground then you get some practice on a 30 ft waterfall before the 60 foot waterfall. In fact, if the guide feels you're not safe enough to go down the 60 foot waterfall, he won't let you. I can't emphasize enough how much safety is his number one priority. My only recommendation is for females to wear a rash guard. Loose shirts aren't allowed for safety reasons and those waterfalls are powerful so it's highly likely that it'll pull your bikini tops down :0/ read more

My fiancée booked a surf lesson through this company and the surf instructor ended up being super inappropriate. At one point even asking her how long we have s** for in bed! Not only if that was bad enough he even mentioned he thought she was 14. The instructor right away owned up to it and apologized for the inappropriate questions but at that point I only wanted to speak with a manager. It was so unbelievable the manager didn't even seem to believe me but as soon as she asked the guy he said yes it did happen and he was very sorry but i don't care how sorry you are at that point it was not ok! She refunded the lesson but I am still waiting for it to show in my account and I spoke to the owner later that day and was blown away how he responded. Basically I felt like he was defending the guy since he was from another country but I don't care especially since he thought she was 14 and asking these inappropriate questions. I was told they were going to put him on a unpaid few day leave as punishment but that is not enough. Parents please be careful allowing your kids to take surf lessons from this company. And not just parents but women in general please be careful. read more

This was a fantastic adventure rappelling down the 30' and 60' waterfalls! I was pretty nervous and a little skeptical in the beginning, but the main instructor was awesome really emphasized safety which made me feel much more comfortable and at ease. When you actually start rappelling all the instructors are very helpful and tell you if you should move to the left, right, down further, etc. I also loved everyone's positive, you-can-do-it, attitudes and high energy! They do yell, but only to let you know how you can have the safest rappel (which I was very grateful) and because the waterfalls are very loud! They're yelling and encouraging shouts were very reassuring and in no way rude. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this experience, the company, or the people! Awesome experience. The guides pick you up at Da Life and bring you to get fitted for your gear. Then they bring you to the private reservation where you will meet "Hawaiian Dundee". He will lead the instructional presentation and teach you all you need to know about repelling. After you do a few rounds on the practice wall, you head out to the 30 and 60 ft waterfalls. It's a short hike, which is super easy, but make sure to bring bug repellent if you're an easy target with the mosquitos. You repel off of the 30 ft waterfall first, and then the 60 ft. The guides make sure you are safe at all times. After you are finished, they will have lunch back at the main camp. It was such an awesome experience and extremely easy!!!
