The sunset cruise with Holo Holo Charters down the Nāpali Coast was an unforgettable experience. We booked it to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, and it was perfect from start to finish. Captain Max was incredible--his sense of humor kept us laughing even as the rain and mist rolled in. The two women on the crew (I wish I could remember their names) were fantastic, making sure everyone was comfortable and answering all our questions with a smile. The playlist on board was spot on, setting the perfect vibe. I wish I could find it on Spotify! Despite the weather, the views were breathtaking, and getting a little drenched just added to the adventure. The food was delicious, especially the smoked pork, salad, and fresh fruit, and my husband loved the mai tais. Even without the sunset, the whole experience was magical. After chatting with other travelers, I'm convinced we had one of the best tours available. especially after talking to a couple at our hotel pool who had paid more than we did and only got snacks limited alcohol. My husband and I did the sunset dinner tour to the Na Pali coast with this company a couple weeks ago on 4/1/26 at 2:45pm. Price was $250 per person and we booked a couple days before the tour date. (we went at the end of March - the weather was fantastic and not too hot, also not raining). Although it was pricey, I felt like it was worth the experience and highly recommend anyone do a tour, even if it's not with this company. We got back to shore around 7-7:30pm, so total time was 5 hours ish. Pros: - the Na Pali coast is BEAUTIFUL - the views were truly a once in a life time experience for me and I saw the fullest rainbow I've ever seen - The tour guide was super informative, we learned a lot about whales, and they also taught us a lot about certain mountains and waterfalls that we passed on the Na Pali Coast (like where Kauai kings were buried). - We stopped to watch whales multiple times and it was really cool! - The 3 staff working on board the ship were extremely helpful in answering questions, providing drinks, and instructing people from a safety perspective - Safety - I felt very well taken care of the whole time. It's a barefoot cruise but people can choose to keep their shoes on if they want. They provided bags for people feeling nauseous and gave good advice when people were feeling seasick. - Food provided - it's not fine dining or anything (chicken teriyaki, salad, etc) but it does beat having to pack your own food or go hungry around dinner time. Also unlimited alcohol or nonalcoholic drinks. - The staff helped us take photos and there's a lot of great photo opportunities at the coast - Champagne toast at sunset, which was beautiful to watch out on the water - bathrooms available on board - My husband didn't feel like eating on board due to the motion sickness so they were kind enough to pack a to-go box for us! - Parking was easy and the meet up location was easy to find - we stood outside for most of the ride since it felt better than sitting inside, so we did get a bunch of sea-spray and got super wet from the 10 ft swells, but it felt really fun! Cons: - I think they need to put a huge disclaimer with statistics or something to show people how common it is for people to get seasick and vomit. I think maybe 5 people from our whole boat got really sick and either fell or vomited during the trip (can feel a little weird enjoying the beautiful view while someone smells like vomit next to you lol). They do tell you at the beginning that you can walk away and get a full refund after hearing the captain briefing during the meet up starting spot, but I don't think they really emphasize just how many people get sick. I personally felt fine but I felt really bad for people who had to gut through the five hour round trip feeling terrible. bring Dramamine!! This was definitely a highlight of my first time in Kauai, I wouldn't necessarily do it more than once due to the price, but it was a fantastic experience for the views! read more

Priceless. If you love being on the water, this is the excursion for you. The crew was phenomenal. We never needed or wanted anything. We saw many whales, spinner dolphins, and a baby monk seal. The views & water at the Napali coast were breathtaking. Cap Kevin took us right up to the waterfall & cave where Hawaiian royalty bathed. It's also a little thrill ride at times, as Cap is masterful at getting you around to see everything and still be back on land in a timely manner. Capt Max and crew were very kind and helpful to everyone on our sunset cruise. During booking, I mentioned that I was gluten free, and the crew made sure I was aware which menu items were gluten free. They also made restaurant recommendations for gluten free food on the island. My kids LOVED the trip on the catamaran, and we enjoyed hearing which movies filmed at different locations along the coast. The champagne toast during sunset was a nice touch at the end of a beautiful sail! Also, be prepared to get very wet if you sit anywhere on the bow and bring towels to stay warm on the sail back to port. It was an epic trip that we will talk about for years to come. read more

Took the sunset dinner cruise up the Na' Pali coastline. The scenery was breathtaking. Beautiful sights you can't get to unless you take a boat or helicopter. The tour was approximately 4 hours. Going out it was a little choppy, but worth it. The crew was amazing. Made sure you had everything you wanted. A soda or drink. And the served you dinner where you were sitting. To top it all off was a perfect sunset while sipping champagne. This might be the best thing we have done while in Kauai. Highly recommended! read more

$350 7 hour Niihau + Napali Super Tour: I was hesitant about booking because of cost, length of time, and motion sickness. However, I took the leap of faith and it turned out to be worth it! THIS BEING SAID - I would NOT go on this tour if you are susceptible to motion sickness. It will get really rocky. I took a preventative Dramamine even though I've been on boats before. They're very organized and give these tours daily. I felt very safe. They called us to confirm the day before and sent a list of things to bring like sunscreen - don't forget to wear clothes and a rain jacket that can get FULLY soaked if you want to sit out front. Bring an inflatable waterproof phone case with a lanyard too for photos. At 6 am, you'll have a briefing by the captain and he warned us that we could cancel with a full refund. Most of us accepted the challenge. There's 1 captain and 3 friendly crew members. You can sit inside a covered section, outside at the back of the boat, or at a small section at the very front of the boat (the splash zone). At times you can also stand up but the number one rule is HOLD ON! One concern I had is that there was a small child on board but she wasn't required to wear a life jacket. This was odd to me coming from the mainland US where children are required to wear life jackets at sea. I decided to sit in front for most of the tour. The way over to Niihau was relatively smooth - like being on a speed boat - but you could stand up if holding on. It took an about an hour. They played relaxing tropical music. We didn't see wildlife on the way there but being out on the water was a joy. They served a modest breakfast with eggs, pastries, and fruit. Coffee was available. Once we got close to Niihau the captain told us the history and then we made our way to the crater to find a snorkel spot. It got more rocky on the way there. One of the crew members jumped in first to make sure the water was safe and we saw a manta ray. Once we dove in, the snorkeling was awesome! The visibility was great and we saw lots of fish. I even saw a reef shark and a monk seal. We snorkeled for an hour until 9:30 am. It gets chilly in the water so they had a warm fresh water hose to spray down before drying off. Please note: snorkeling is never a guarantee and depends on weather. If we didn't get to snorkel, I would've expected a partial refund since that contributes to the value. We crossed the channel again to head to Napali coast. This was the rockiest ride of my life. I sat in the front and it was like riding a water ride at an amusement park for about 1.5 hr. The swells were 3-5 feet coming from different directions so they'd combine to be even larger swells. Sometimes the front of the boat wasn't even touching the water. But I was having an absolute blast!! We were getting sprayed and splashed almost constantly, but it was such a rush. They told us that if we wanted to move to the back, we would need to wave our hands for them to slow the boat down. This happened a few times. After that wild ride, it started to get old and I desperately desired calm waters. We stopped to see some dolphins sleeping and that's when I made my move to get my sunscreen and rain jacket. It gets very cold in addition to being soaking wet up front. My biggest mistake was not wearing the rain jacket and not reapplying sunscreen post snorkel because the hour ride back burned us (literally) pretty bad. Then we made it to the beautiful coast of Napali, which was genuinely stunning. I was feeling a little gross from inhaling so much salt water so I enjoyed the slower cruise. However it was still pretty rocky at times. They have plenty of photo ops both at the crater and the Napali coast and will take photos for you. They also provide unlimited drinks with an ample selection of non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol post snorkel). I stuck to sparkling water and wouldn't recommend drinking alcohol on these rocky waves unless you have a strong stomach. They served lunch which was deli sandwiches, pasta salad, and a veggie tray. I'd suggest some bags of chips or dessert as well since it was a pretty modest lunch. I got to lounge in the sun on their front deck tarp when the boat was going slow but then I spent the rest of the time inside. They have 2 bathrooms and sea sickness buckets. It's also important to note that you can always see one of the islands when out at sea, which makes it feel less like you're in the middle of the ocean - if you're nervous about that. While I think the same experience could've cost less I still feel it was worth it - it's only $50 an hour for an experience you wouldn't otherwise able to have in Kauai. I struggle to write this review because in all honesty, my partner and I had a wonderful time sailing along the Napali Coast and watching the beautiful sunset on the ocean. However, upon reflection, a large portion of the experience can be credited to 1) the beautiful weather we had 2) the natural scenery. Any boat could've taken us and I think we would've had an equally amazing experience. Now for the things that Holo Holo did well: 1. Safety (felt very safe on the whole ride despite 8-10ft swells) 2. The staff (they were all very nice and friendly) 3. Stopped for whale watching multiple times, which I appreciated. This broke up the choppy ride towards the coast and allowed us a break to watch so many whales dive/breech/etc. The main negatives: 1. I do feel like the captain/Holo Holo's policy should have been way more transparent to passengers on what "rough ocean conditions" actually mean. I understand that they give the option to everyone after the "captain briefing" to cancel for a full refund or reschedule. However, they need to provide a better idea to passengers on what "8-10ft swells" can actually do to someone. The captain never said, for example, "if you are prone to motion sickness of any kind, I highly recommend you take the appropriate medication or reconsider taking the tour because it will be rough and you may be miserable the whole ride/be throwing up." You can't tell the whole group "we expect 8-10 foot swells...if that doesn't sound good to you, you can cancel/reschedule..."--that's lying by omission in my opinion. What ended up happening was the 8-10 foot swells made 1/3 of our boat miserable and nauseous for 90% of the 4 hour ride. 5 people out of ~30 threw up aggressively multiple times. It was a horrible sight to watch. I'm not speaking on behalf of myself and my partner since we're both adventurous and do not get motion sickness. HOWEVER, it is NOT a positive experience to watch people suffering all around you for the entire boat ride. We chose to look the other way (literally and figuratively) multiple times and felt bad about it. There were some people who were so sick that they never even left the cabin area to look outside. I felt so bad for them. 2. The food. For $500 for two, I'd say expect better food. It was the most bland and unpalatable food I've had in a long time. Chicken teriyaki was as tough as rubber and drowning in a watery bed of cabbage. Rice was overcooked and dry. Only the leafy green salad was palatable. Brownie dessert was dry and overly sweet. I probably had a bite and tossed it. The pre-dinner snacks were better than the actual dinner in my opinion. Further, it would've been nice for the captain to slow the boat down for 10-20 mins for people to get food and eat. Going full throttle while people are either lining up, trying to fill their plates, running to throw up, or trying to find a decent seat does not make for a peaceful dining experience. I got my food and half of it flew off into the ocean before I could eat it due to the wind/choppiness of the water. 3. The time spent at the Napali Coast was too short. We probably spent 10-15 minutes actually paused/slow cruising around the cliffs. I didn't think that was enough time to take everything in and for everyone to get pictures. Maybe it was due to the conditions for today, but it did feel short. All things considered, my boyfriend and I personally had a 9/10 experience. However, I don't think half of our boat could say the same. Next time, I'd probably book with a cheaper company since I did not feel like the high price tag justified the basic positives that occurred on our tour. read more

The water in the gulf was calm, and we were lucky enough to see several pods of dolphins -- a pretty rare sight. Jess was a fantastic captain, guiding us through the trip with stories and insights almost the entire way. This is an excellent boat cruise, but unless you have sea legs, I don't recommend it. The tour itself is over five hours long and the waves can be incredibly choppy. Multiple people vomited on our boat. But, if the sea is for you and you don't get seasick, this is an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking tour of the coast. The captain Mike was a really nice guy and drove the boat safely. He went over all the safety recommendations before we left and even gave people an opportunity to get a full refund - because it was so choppy - and not come on the tour. We of course still went - because we love boats. The drinks were plentiful, and we enjoyed the service from all of the crew members. They were a little bit too chatty, and I recommend just moving to a place where you cannot listen if you don't like to talk to anyone while cruising. The catamaran has trampolines you can lay on, but you will get wet. The boat does allow young children and teenagers, so just be aware if you were looking for a romantic catamaran ride this is not it. I would absolutely do this tour again. You guys have done a great job and the food was delicious. The only recommendation I would have is that when people throw up that you clean the railings immediately- because each of those people who vomited got puke all over the railings and their hands and then touched everything and that was gross. This is our second time taking a cruise with Holo Holo. I loved it so much a few years ago when we took the morning cruise even though the weather didnt allow us to go to the second island. We brought along our adult kids to share the experience this time and chose the sunset cruise. I love a roller coaster ride, but this was so incredibly rough for so long....2 hours to get to the "relaxing" part that it just wasn't enjoyable. We didn't get motion sickness, but others did. We really couldn't hear anything the captain was telling us either. Sorry, I think mornings are better, but won't be going again anyway. read more

I booked a reservation with this company on August 9th and specifically asked if my 4.5-year-old son would be allowed, because their website suggested otherwise. The representative assured me it was fine, and confirmed that all four of us could go on the cruise. However, just a few days before our trip, they suddenly informed me that my son could not come because he was under 5 something that was never mentioned when I made the reservation. This is not how a professional company should operate, and thanks to this company, our entire plan was ruined. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Make sure you pop a Dramamine cos 6, to include my wife, got sick on this tremendous adventure. The sail to Na Pali Coast gets progressively rougher and is pretty "SWELL," as you approach the center or Kalaulau Valley. It's the turnaround point, if weather allows, and is impressive. Charcuterie, crackers, veggies, and an abundance of beverages on way out is nice. On sail back, it's much calmer and time to dine & catch sunset. Food was "meh." Kalua pork was salty & dry, chicken Teri was bland & dry, pasta salad was good, and rice was the best thing! They do provide take out boxes for leftovers, if so inclined. The brownie Hans handed out was ONOlicious!!! Captain Glenn braved the waves and Rob & Hans were spectacular at seeing to everyone's needs. They all work their okoles off! So, make sure you show them at the disembark. Saw whales & dolphins on way out/in, so bonus, for those that care. Oh, and if you want true 4D, sit on the bow (front of the boat to you landlubbers!)! After looking back at my photos I WISH I would have taken more photos! The captain said it would be probably be choppy and stated the knots (I can't remember what it was), but that it would be choppier the next day. He gave us a chance to bow out, but we stayed. That was nice he did that! We left early as the sun was rising and it was cold to begin with, but it heated up during the day and turned out to be a perfect, beautiful day. The one thing we really wanted to see were whales and we saw them! If I could attach a video here I would, but it doesn't let me. The tour we took was the "Niihau + Napali Super Tour - 7hr." It might be pricy, but VERY worth it! I get seasick, but I took (and brought extra) Dramamine. If you're prone to even a little bit of motion/sea sickness, TAKE IT prior to boarding!!! Wow!! what an amazing way to see Kauai !!! My family and I went on the 7 hour Catamaran and snorkel tour and LOVED it!! Jess was our captain and she navigated the ocean brilliantly! All the crew were amazing! The food was delicious and seemed to keep on coming! We saw Sea Turtles, Monk Seals and a huge pod of Spinner Dolphins ( We even saw baby dolphins jumping 4 feet above the water which was amazing v considering they were a little bigger than a football! We took the Super Snorkel - Niihau + Napali Tour out of Port Allen on May 24. It is a VERY early check-in (6am), so keep that in mind. The tour was fantastic with unbelievable close-up views of the Napali coast. unfortunately, we were not able to go over the see the Nihau coast as the wind was whipping up 9-foot waves and impacted the snorkeling. We had to revert to a second snorkeling location. I am not lowering my rating for this as it was out of the control of the captain. In addition, they gave a refund of 20% because of this which I doubt other companies would do. The food they provided was very good and the staff was VERY friendly and helpful. I do have one suggestion for them though. When passengers are trying to take pictures, the staff should be mindful to not stand directly in the shot. I was reprimanded by the male crew member when I tried to stand to take a picture around him. Again, not lowering my rating for this as it would overshadow the great service overall. I cannot stress enough the power of the views we got to see. read more

Booked this dinner cruise for the last day of vacation on Kauai. I was concerned since the weather can determine whether the boat will sail or stay docked. This didn't happen until an hour before you departed, but we lucked out, and the tour was on! Most of all of the island tour's groups leave from this harbor, and there's plenty of parking. The captain was very detailed about what the Na Pali Coast tour included and gave individuals the last chance to bail before we boarded ship. I suggest sea sickness meds if you're sensitive since I saw several adults getting ill. Excursion included an open bar, veggie appetizer platters, crackers and cheese, and buffet dinner. The two ship mates provided super service and knowledge regarding the beautiful coastline of the Na Pali coast. We even experienced a group of dolphins swimming along our boat. I would highly recommend Holo Holo Charters for a memorable tour, and don't forget to take care of the staff when departing. read more

An amazing experience all around. Captain Cole and team were tremendous. We saw sea monk up close (literally 2 feet or so from it while snorkeling), dolphins while on the catamaran, beautiful tour of the island. And even making sure sea-sick patrons were well taken care of. Prior to taking off from the dock there was coffee, tea, and hot coca. After we left the dock breakfast was served. I was surprised at how great the food was as well-breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with cheese, pastry, and fresh fruit while lunch was a build your own sandwich bar with a wide variety of meats and cheese to choose from, pasta salad, and vegetables with dips. Throughout the excursion there was a wide selection of pop and juice and after snorkeling all you could drink local beers. We sailed on 4/7/26, for reference. The morning started off iffy due to weather conditions and an unrelenting downpour! Captain Kelly informed us that she could give us an adventure for sure, but she also gave us the honest truth that they weren't sure what to expect that day. Oh boy! So she rallied her crew and guests alike and off we went bundled up in rain gear! The wind, rain and waves were nothing short of a Hollywood movie, but we trudged on for over two hours. We got to see many natural wonders along the Napoli coast, including dolphins, sea turtles, sea caves and a beautiful reef. Captain Kelly even backed us in under a waterfall for a "blessing". Once the rain stopped, she found an area to let us off to snorkel. Unfortunately, there was nothing to really see, but the swim and experience was awesome. Back on board, the crew served up a wonderful sandwich buffet and the sun broke out! We got lots of sun on the ride back and even stopped a few times to whale-watch.
