Priceless. If you love being on the water, this is the excursion for you. The crew was phenomenal. We never needed or wanted anything. We saw many whales, spinner dolphins, and a baby monk seal. The views & water at the Napali coast were breathtaking. Cap Kevin took us right up to the waterfall & cave where Hawaiian royalty bathed. It's also a little thrill ride at times, as Cap is masterful at getting you around to see everything and still be back on land in a timely manner. The sunset was gorgeous and the food and drink was phenomenal. This was the highlight of our trip to Kauai and we did some pretty magical things!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Nepali coast. Sure, it was a little rough, but we didn't lose anybody overboard! The sun, the wind, the sea spray in your face, it's all so fabulous! Two people proposed on the trip. The sunset was incredible. I almost want to make the 11 mile hike to one of those beaches. The captain and the crew were outstanding. Anything you could want, if they could give it to you, they did. They kept the bathrooms clean and they kept the drinks flowing. Nothing but good things to say about this charter company!

I struggle to write this review because in all honesty, my partner and I had a wonderful time sailing along the Napali Coast and watching the beautiful sunset on the ocean. However, upon reflection, a large portion of the experience can be credited to 1) the beautiful weather we had 2) the natural scenery. Any boat could've taken us and I think we would've had an equally amazing experience. Now for the things that Holo Holo did well: 1. Safety (felt very safe on the whole ride despite 8-10ft swells) 2. The staff (they were all very nice and friendly) 3. Stopped for whale watching multiple times, which I appreciated. This broke up the choppy ride towards the coast and allowed us a break to watch so many whales dive/breech/etc. The main negatives: 1. I do feel like the captain/Holo Holo's policy should have been way more transparent to passengers on what "rough ocean conditions" actually mean. I understand that they give the option to everyone after the "captain briefing" to cancel for a full refund or reschedule. However, they need to provide a better idea to passengers on what "8-10ft swells" can actually do to someone. The captain never said, for example, "if you are prone to motion sickness of any kind, I highly recommend you take the appropriate medication or reconsider taking the tour because it will be rough and you may be miserable the whole ride/be throwing up." You can't tell the whole group "we expect 8-10 foot swells...if that doesn't sound good to you, you can cancel/reschedule..."--that's lying by omission in my opinion. What ended up happening was the 8-10 foot swells made 1/3 of our boat miserable and nauseous for 90% of the 4 hour ride. 5 people out of ~30 threw up aggressively multiple times. It was a horrible sight to watch. I'm not speaking on behalf of myself and my partner since we're both adventurous and do not get motion sickness. HOWEVER, it is NOT a positive experience to watch people suffering all around you for the entire boat ride. We chose to look the other way (literally and figuratively) multiple times and felt bad about it. There were some people who were so sick that they never even left the cabin area to look outside. I felt so bad for them. 2. The food. For $500 for two, I'd say expect better food. It was the most bland and unpalatable food I've had in a long time. Chicken teriyaki was as tough as rubber and drowning in a watery bed of cabbage. Rice was overcooked and dry. Only the leafy green salad was palatable. Brownie dessert was dry and overly sweet. I probably had a bite and tossed it. The pre-dinner snacks were better than the actual dinner in my opinion. Further, it would've been nice for the captain to slow the boat down for 10-20 mins for people to get food and eat. Going full throttle while people are either lining up, trying to fill their plates, running to throw up, or trying to find a decent seat does not make for a peaceful dining experience. I got my food and half of it flew off into the ocean before I could eat it due to the wind/choppiness of the water. 3. The time spent at the Napali Coast was too short. We probably spent 10-15 minutes actually paused/slow cruising around the cliffs. I didn't think that was enough time to take everything in and for everyone to get pictures. Maybe it was due to the conditions for today, but it did feel short. All things considered, my boyfriend and I personally had a 9/10 experience. However, I don't think half of our boat could say the same. Next time, I'd probably book with a cheaper company since I did not feel like the high price tag justified the basic positives that occurred on our tour.

$350 7 hour Niihau + Napali Super Tour: I was hesitant about booking because of cost, length of time, and motion sickness. However, I took the leap of faith and it turned out to be worth it! THIS BEING SAID - I would NOT go on this tour if you are susceptible to motion sickness. It will get really rocky. I took a preventative Dramamine even though I've been on boats before. They're very organized and give these tours daily. I felt very safe. They called us to confirm the day before and sent a list of things to bring like sunscreen - don't forget to wear clothes and a rain jacket that can get FULLY soaked if you want to sit out front. Bring an inflatable waterproof phone case with a lanyard too for photos. At 6 am, you'll have a briefing by the captain and he warned us that we could cancel with a full refund. Most of us accepted the challenge. There's 1 captain and 3 friendly crew members. You can sit inside a covered section, outside at the back of the boat, or at a small section at the very front of the boat (the splash zone). At times you can also stand up but the number one rule is HOLD ON! One concern I had is that there was a small child on board but she wasn't required to wear a life jacket. This was odd to me coming from the mainland US where children are required to wear life jackets at sea. I decided to sit in front for most of the tour. The way over to Niihau was relatively smooth - like being on a speed boat - but you could stand up if holding on. It took an about an hour. They played relaxing tropical music. We didn't see wildlife on the way there but being out on the water was a joy. They served a modest breakfast with eggs, pastries, and fruit. Coffee was available. Once we got close to Niihau the captain told us the history and then we made our way to the crater to find a snorkel spot. It got more rocky on the way there. One of the crew members jumped in first to make sure the water was safe and we saw a manta ray. Once we dove in, the snorkeling was awesome! The visibility was great and we saw lots of fish. I even saw a reef shark and a monk seal. We snorkeled for an hour until 9:30 am. It gets chilly in the water so they had a warm fresh water hose to spray down before drying off. Please note: snorkeling is never a guarantee and depends on weather. If we didn't get to snorkel, I would've expected a partial refund since that contributes to the value. We crossed the channel again to head to Napali coast. This was the rockiest ride of my life. I sat in the front and it was like riding a water ride at an amusement park for about 1.5 hr. The swells were 3-5 feet coming from different directions so they'd combine to be even larger swells. Sometimes the front of the boat wasn't even touching the water. But I was having an absolute blast!! We were getting sprayed and splashed almost constantly, but it was such a rush. They told us that if we wanted to move to the back, we would need to wave our hands for them to slow the boat down. This happened a few times. After that wild ride, it started to get old and I desperately desired calm waters. We stopped to see some dolphins sleeping and that's when I made my move to get my sunscreen and rain jacket. It gets very cold in addition to being soaking wet up front. My biggest mistake was not wearing the rain jacket and not reapplying sunscreen post snorkel because the hour ride back burned us (literally) pretty bad. Then we made it to the beautiful coast of Napali, which was genuinely stunning. I was feeling a little gross from inhaling so much salt water so I enjoyed the slower cruise. However it was still pretty rocky at times. They have plenty of photo ops both at the crater and the Napali coast and will take photos for you. They also provide unlimited drinks with an ample selection of non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol post snorkel). I stuck to sparkling water and wouldn't recommend drinking alcohol on these rocky waves unless you have a strong stomach. They served lunch which was deli sandwiches, pasta salad, and a veggie tray. I'd suggest some bags of chips or dessert as well since it was a pretty modest lunch. I got to lounge in the sun on their front deck tarp when the boat was going slow but then I spent the rest of the time inside. They have 2 bathrooms and sea sickness buckets. It's also important to note that you can always see one of the islands when out at sea, which makes it feel less like you're in the middle of the ocean - if you're nervous about that. While I think the same experience could've cost less I still feel it was worth it - it's only $50 an hour for an experience you wouldn't otherwise able to have in Kauai. Thanks so much Holo Holo and to our crew for transporting us safely and making it a fun last day in Kauai!

Great experience for the price! We went on an adventure with them yesterday, and it was absolutely amazing. The water in the gulf was calm, and we were lucky enough to see several pods of dolphins -- a pretty rare sight. Jess was a fantastic captain, guiding us through the trip with stories and insights almost the entire way. During snorkeling in the crater, we even spotted two reef sharks and some monk seals underwater.

We went winter time for the sunset cruise. If you decide to go then, BE READY! The water was rough, and the waves were big. Some people got sick, but it was a fun ride. The guides were correct when warning us of things that would make us seasick. The water was calmer near the coast, so we got some good pictures. The sunset was beautiful!

The views were amazing, however it was only 1 spot of snorkeling for appx 1 hr for a 7 hour day. Was able to see rare turtle, monk seals and a Manta Ray. Good food, friendly staff, only 1 bathroom for 50 passengers

This is an excellent boat cruise, but unless you have sea legs, I don't recommend it. The tour itself is over five hours long and the waves can be incredibly choppy. Multiple people vomited on our boat. But, if the sea is for you and you don't get seasick, this is an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking tour of the coast. The captain Mike was a really nice guy and drove the boat safely. He went over all the safety recommendations before we left and even gave people an opportunity to get a full refund - because it was so choppy - and not come on the tour. We of course still went - because we love boats. The drinks were plentiful, and we enjoyed the service from all of the crew members. They were a little bit too chatty, and I recommend just moving to a place where you cannot listen if you don't like to talk to anyone while cruising. The catamaran has trampolines you can lay on, but you will get wet. The boat does allow young children and teenagers, so just be aware if you were looking for a romantic catamaran ride this is not it. I would absolutely do this tour again. You guys have done a great job and the food was delicious. The only recommendation I would have is that when people throw up that you clean the railings immediately- because each of those people who vomited got puke all over the railings and their hands and then touched everything and that was gross. Not your fault, people are just disgusting.

Had a wonderful outing doing Holo Holo's super tour! As a tourist, this was the perfect tourist activity. Holo Holo took me to places I couldn't access on my own. The staff was very friendly/helpful, the boat had all the conveniences needed, and the entire process was very easy from booking to parking. The scenery was epic, loved getting to go in the water. There is potential for seasickness because you're truly out in the ocean but I felt safe the entire voyage as Holo Holo was a very professional operation. No regrets, would 100% do it again.

BOOK HOLO HOLO!!! THIS is the company to go with. This was my second time going with Holo Holo Charters and I wouldn't want to try anyone else! The sunset Napali coast tour is 11/10 amazing. The most beautiful place in the entire world. Every time, the crew is absolutely fantastic...captain Glenn, Jase, Christina...truly awesome people who make your experience absolutely enjoyable. The service is exceptional, and the tour is just as amazing. I wouldn't bother booking with another company...Holo Holo is definitely the best option on Kauai. Great boat, perfect size, tours like clockwork. They've got it down to a science and no one has ever gotten sick on the tours I've done. If you can only do one thing in Kauai...DO THIS!!!

Chin-sea-uh, Kevin, and Mike were dang good at what they do. We did the evening sunset cruise up the Napali coast and loved every second of it. We got the gift cards at the Costco in Lihue before heading out saving us 20% ($100) on our excursion for 2. Very knowledgeable crew about history,wildlife etc and very funny with classic one liners from start to finish. Was expecting the food to be mediocre but was very pleasantly surprised when it was delicious and one of my favorite meals on Kauai. read more

An amazing experience all around. Captain Cole and team were tremendous. We saw sea monk up close (literally 2 feet or so from it while snorkeling), dolphins while on the catamaran, beautiful tour of the island. And even making sure sea-sick patrons were well taken care of. Prior to taking off from the dock there was coffee, tea, and hot coca. After we left the dock breakfast was served. I was surprised at how great the food was as well-breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with cheese, pastry, and fresh fruit while lunch was a build your own sandwich bar with a wide variety of meats and cheese to choose from, pasta salad, and vegetables with dips. Throughout the excursion there was a wide selection of pop and juice and after snorkeling all you could drink local beers. A wonderful tour of the island, absolutely breath taking views, and beautiful wild life. 10 out of 10 recommend. read more

Capt. Mike and his crew did a fantastic job on our sunset dinner cruise along the Nā Pali Coast, and from booking to returning to the dock, the whole process was smooth sailing! My girlfriends and I were looking to book a cruise only two weeks out before we arrived and thankfully we were able to book online with Holo Holo Charter. They were great about reminding us about the upcoming tour and the need to complete our waiver and check in the days leading up to the tour. Parking at their lot may be difficult if a lot of charters have gone out for the day, and you're not supposed to park across the street at the restaurant's spaces, as tempting as it may be. My girlfriends and I prepped by taking Dramamine, but unfortunately it didn't work for them. One was pretty miserable for three quarters of the 4.5 hour trip, and she ended up hurling over the side at one point. The crew were nothing but super helpful and nice throughout - and they had ginger ale, ginger chews and soda crackers for anyone feeling ill. I loved the rocking of the boat, especially up front where you also get hit by sea spray - it's like an amusement park flume ride! At the beginning of the trip, they laid out cheese, crackers and salami, and while heading back they brought dinner to each of us. There were plenty of drinks - alcoholic and nonalcoholic. I felt bad for those who got seasick but we all agreed this company does a stellar job with their tours. I highly recommend them and I really hope you tip the crew at the end of the trip - they are serving people throughout the sail, not just helping the captain sail the boat. From delivering drinks and food to regaling us with the history and stories of the Nā Pali Coast, the crew is busy the whole time. Please tip! read more

An Unforgettable Na Pali Sunset Tour - Adventure, Chaos, and a Whole Lot of Laughs! Our Na Pali Sunset & Sightsee Boat Tour with Holo Holo Charters was definitely one for the books! Captain Rob set the stage early, warning us that the waters would be rough due to an offshore storm. He even gave everyone the option to take a refund before we left. No one did--but looking back, I think some might have reconsidered! The tour started off great--calm waters, excitement in the air, and drinks flowing. My wife and I sat in the back corner of the boat, enjoying the ride. At first, the waves weren't too bad, but as we moved further north, things took a turn. I found myself gripping my third Mai Tai, trying to keep it steady, while around me, people started getting sick over the side of the boat. Crew members Luke and Aaron worked quickly to clean up, but as they were washing away the aftermath, the situation escalated--a poor woman in the restroom got tossed around by the waves and ended up smearing her shorts in what we can all agree was not pudding. The crew jumped into action, helping her get cleaned up, all while trying to keep up with the growing chaos. As if that wasn't enough, the skies opened up, and a torrential downpour started. My wife and I held onto each other for dear life, feeling like we had somehow landed on an episode of Deadliest Catch. Cameras stayed tucked away--there was no way we were risking losing them in the madness. Eventually, Captain Rob made the call to turn around for safety, and after a dramatic U-turn, we finally hit calmer waters. Despite all of this, we were laughing the entire time. The sheer unpredictability of it all made for a wild, unforgettable experience. And just when we thought the adventure was over, we were treated to a beautiful meal and the sight of whales breaching in the distance, which made the whole ordeal 100% worth it. Would I do it again? Absolutely--because when the weather cooperates, those Na Pali Coast views are spectacular. Just be prepared for whatever the ocean decides to throw your way! The sunset cruise was amazing. The boat sped up the coast, and even though we opted to sit in the back, we caught the occasional refreshing spray from a wave. It was very windy when we went, but the boat ride was fine - I only saw a couple of people feeling sea sick, and the Holo Holo boat staff were very helpful, offering advice, ginger ale, saltines, ginger candies, and buckets. The mai tais, appetizers and dinner were great. The Na Pali coast was beautiful, and we loved it when they were finally able to unfurl the sail and slowly meander back down. We did not see any wildlife aside from mountain goats, but the sunset was so gorgeous and an amazing photo op. We were out for almost 6 hours and loved every minute. Can't wait to go again next time I'm in Kauai. read more

Had the best experience with Holo Holo Charters! From start to finish, everything was incredible. We got up close with playful dolphins, sea turtles, and whales--it was truly magical. The views were spectacular! The five stars are for the staff and the views. Alec and Ahren were amazing hosts. They took care of all the passengers on board, made sure everyone was safe, fed, and hydrated. Big shout out to Alec, who patiently took photos and was very engaging. Dinner was tasty, although many passengers didn't eat much due to seasickness. They packed up food for the passengers who didn't eat to take home. That was a very nice touch. The ride out was not as smooth as advertised and was a little wild. It felt as if the captain was rushing a bit to get out to give us the opportunity to see the coastline close-up and make sunset. It made for a 20 to 30 minute very bumpy ride. read more

Having never visited any of the Hawaiin islands, I heavily researched all the boat cruise tours for Kauai. Hours of research paid off because Holo Holo Charters was awesome! My wife and I wanted to make the most of our tour so we booked the 7-hour Super Tour on their largest catamaran that takes you up the coast of Nāpali Coast and then west to the "hidden island" of Niʻihau. We arrived hours before dawn, checked in, received instruction from the captain, walked a few blocks to the dock, boarded the boat, and pushed off. As we made our distance from the coast, the sun began it's rise in the sky giving us a beautiful view of the coast with its backlit picture perfect setting. It only took about an hour to reach the Nāpali Coast. The captain stopped many times to allow for pictures. He was quite knowledgeable of the sights and had wonderful commentary. From the famous sights of the beach used in "Pirates of the Caribean" to local known treasures, the captain did not spare on the many impressive places. At one point we had a pod of dolphins join us and run along the catamaran for a good five minutes. Speaking of the catamaran, if you are adventurous, you can sit in the front and enjoy the incredible views with a splash of water here and there. Since the water was warm and the sun was up, I never found myself cold even though the wind was on me. We began our tour with an excellent breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins, and other goodies. The coffee was hot and good. Later, when we made it to Niʻihau we had an equally good lunch with sandwiches, salad, and chips. Beer and wine were also available. Niʻihau is an interesting and fasnitating island which of course the captain gave all the details to. Just north of it is a smaller island Lehua which has a picture worthy hole in it's cliff that the captain stops the boat at and the crew happily takes a picture of the guests in front of the ciff. This is also were we had lunch and then did some snorkeling with all needed equipment provided. As we began our return to Kauai, we were treated with a mother whale and her offspring playing in the water before us! I chose this trip for one more reason than maximizing our time on the sea and that was due to a back condition I have. My wife and I considered the tour where you can go into the caves but those use smaller rafts and with the choppy waves, I didn't think my back could handle it. The captain did have some concern for me on his boat but the large catamaran took the waves well and I had no issues at all. Lastly, the captain and crew were amazing. They were absolutely incredible. Cheerful, helpful, courteous, and skilled. There were times during the tour that their skills were on display and it was obvious they knew what they were doing. You really couldn't ask for more from a crew. When we left the boat and walked back to our car my wife and I were completely satisfied with the tour. Having been seven hours long, we were a bit worn out and thought, 'We checked that box off and won't need to do it again'. Looking back, and now recovered from the trip, umm, ya, we want to do it again. :) read more

Such a cool tour of the Na Pali Coast! To be honest, The captain was good (don't remember his name but cool guy), but hat's off to Matt, the crew mate who doubles as a server, photographer, crossing guard, etc. He was so friendly & sociable, giving good tips and insights throughout the ride. Super cool experience! My family did the 3 hour sunset cruise with captain Glenn. The staff was super attentive and were very involved in making sure everyone had a great experience. They serve snacks (crackers, cheese, meat, fruit) and a meal (chicken, rice, salad, fruit) along with drinks the entire time. The trip consists of a long trip out, a pause around the prettiest part of the Napali coast, & then the trip back as the sun sets near the end of the trip. Glenn was great and got us into a cave which he said isn't always possible. There was also a rainbow! I personally felt sick after the half way point, but that's not the charter's fault. I suggest motion sickness patches or pills for most people because you can't predict how choppy the sea will be. A few people got sick and the staff were helpful at getting them to the back of the boat to help with motion. I don't think I'd suggest this trip if you get motion sickness easily, as they weren't having a great time. I found that sitting at the back of the boat and looking at the land helped me best. The wind also helps. Overall an awesome experience with great views of the Napali Coast! read more

Did the sunset cruise. It was one of a few $200-300 per person excursions we did on Kaua'i. Of all of them, it was the best investment and value. We had a GREAT time. Drinks and appetizers were very good. Dinner was excellent. The brownies were exceptional. The champagne - well it was festive - and perfectly timed at sunset. Wish we would have lucked out and seen more sea life but despite Holo Holo having great staff, we understand that they aren't the bosses of early season whales. They could, however, give us a great ride, show us breathtaking views of the coast and the Cathedrals, and send us home smiling. Definitely would recommend for anyone who can handle a boat with lots of motion.... Bring your sea legs and a designated driver. :-) read more

Amazing tour company!! We've been to the big 4 Hawaiian islands and out of all of them this was the BEST tour group we've been on! Started off by snorkeling for hour, then headed to the star of the show, the NEPALI COAST, it was STUNNING!! Captain Kellie took us to this waterfall and steered the boat right up to it so we could take pictures under it! Crew was so friendly and attentive! WARNING! DO NOT BOOK HOLO HOLO! We booked our family for the 5 hour Napali coast snorkel tour in October 2025 for a end of December tour. In November I received a call that our tour had been cancelled due to not enough people booking the tour. However, we booked the last 5 spots on that tour. I told the agent that and was promptly placed on hold. When she came back she informed me that someone had bought out my tour and bumped everyone. They were at the time able to re book our party on another date during our stay that was previously booked when I had made my reservation. I suspect that tour changed dates and bumped us. Fine, we were flexible and it worked out.... Today, I received a email cancelation of our tour....two days prior to our tour. The email I received....not even a phone call this time, said it was due to a vessel service and there was no further reservations available for a week after our date. We will be gone. We had other options to book snorkeling tours at the time our reservation was made, however now that all the time has passed, there is no longer any other tours available for our party at this short notice. Shame on Holo Holo for handling our tour and cancellation so poorly. Our family will not be able to take any snorkeling tours due to their not being able to run a business professionally. RUN! TO ANY OTHER SNORKELING TOUR! DO NOT BOOK HERE! Book someplace else that wants your business and cares about the experience they offer. read more

I cannot recommend Holo Holo Charters enough. We had an amazing time doing the Niihau and Na Pali coast tour as a family of three (9, 38, 45) with Captain Jess (4/19/25). The food, service, and experience could not have been better. The staff was so attentive and professional. I loved how they actively asked everyone if they wanted group pictures, constantly checked if people were handling the journey, if anyone needed drinks, etc. A few people became sick and they handled the situations discreetly and immediately without making guests feel bad. We got to see the beautiful landscape and snorkel. To top it off we got to see a humpback whale, monk seal, and dolphins. The crossing is a little rough but 100% worth it. People of all ages were on the journey and everyone had an amazing time. Book this tour!! read more

Very caring staff!!! I have difficulty walking so staff was so kind to find out if there was the best place for me to be on the boat. GRACE went to ask the captain what he thought then reported that captain said current weather conditions before our trip was indicating it was going to be choppy and possibly rainy. The captain kindly let everyone know this and offered a rescheduling or full refund. Because we were leaving soon we were unable to reschedule but they processed our refund quickly. I feel the staff has the Kauai heart and aloha spirit and i would, without a question book with them in the future. The office also was very nice and new with lots of sitting area and immaculate. read more

Our group of 4 went on Holo Holo Charters on to the Napoli Coast and Snorkel adventure. Our Captain Jess and cabin crew Lucy and KeKoa made our adventure so memorable. We gathered at the office, walked to the boat as a group, left the port and were snorkeling in only a few minutes. Lucy supervised our snorkel group from a surf board and KeKoa also assisted. Once back on board we had a continental breakfast and resumed our trip back up the coast of Kauai. Such a beautiful island both Jess and Lucy shared interesting historical and current events. We saw dolphins, turtles and whales! I have taken a number of catamaran trips on both Maui, and Kauai, the crew of Jess, Lucy and KeKoa made this a very memorable trip. read more

We went on the Dinner Cruise and Sunset view tour of the Napali coast. I had never been on a catamaran and was a wondering if I would need a bathing suit for the dinner cruise. The answer is, it depends where you sit! If you near the back (stern) you should be fine. But if you move to the front (bow) you're gonna take a shower. There will be times when the boat slows so you better take in the views and they will advise you to move to bow and you won't get soaked.) I was able to bring a small backpack with a light jacket and some other stuff that I tucked under the bench seat. I brought a Pelican brand waterproof cover for my iphone. It comes with a lanyard so you can hang it on your neck. (I wasn't comfortable holding my iphone in a bouncing boat.) But I do recommend bringing a camera. The views are gorgeous! If you're not a local, you've come a long way to get to this Garden Island and Holo Holo and our Captain K. gave us a view that I will never forget! You can't see those cliffs, valleys, and caves unless you're on boat or in a helicopter or are part dolphin. The captain took us north to the Napali coast and then when he swung the boat around for a slower trip about thirty feet from the shore. You get great photos or if you're not into that, just looking at the rocks and streams and waterfalls is priceless. Our trip was a dinner and sunset cruise. The Captain and did a great job of telling us about what the heck were looking at. (The Jurassic Park opening shot, the history of the lands were very informative.) And his crew fed us and provided libations and kept us safe. They made this beautiful forever memory possible. Thank you Holo Holo Charters! read more

My friends and I found this on TripAdvisor & figured it would be a fun thing to do to see the Na Pali Coast from the water. We had the pleasure of going with Captain Kelly, Gabe and Chinsey (sp?). The crew did an amazing job of making sure we were safe and comfortable. We got to snorkel for a bit, which was really cool. As we were on the boat, we got to see some spinner dolphins up close - honestly, it was the highlight of the day. There were so many! Def a great start to our morning. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The travel there was a bit rough. My friend & I ended up getting sick, but the crew made sure we were fine. At one point, Chinsey made us sandwiches to eat after we got off the boat. Best. Sandwich. Ever. Best service too! I highly recommend you check out this place for a tour of the coast. My second time snorkeling (I know, I'm late to the game), and went with Holo Holo Charters based on the high star rating. I'll preface my review by saying that I think your experience will depend on what you like when it comes to a snorkeling excursion. We went with the longer tour which lasted about 7 hours where we stopped at one snorkeling spot and the rest of the trip was spent sight seeing along the coast and views of the local marine life. The ride out to the snorkeling spot was very enjoyable with the captain and crew sharing lots of local knowledge of the scenery, being friendly with the tour attendees and pointing out dolphins and landmarks. The snorkeling part was good, the crew was very attentive and organized in terms of getting everyone ready to enter the water. We stayed for quite awhile and felt there was plenty of time in the water for most folks. After returning to the boat, the crew served a pretty good lunch of sandwiches, macaroni salad, bread, cookies and alcohol/sodas. After lunch, the captain let us know that we'd be needing to hit the channel pretty quickly due to a military exercise that was happening nearby. Once on the channel, the ride got extremely choppy and lasted for about 45 mins. Over that period of time, about 7 of the 30 or so passengers began to get very sea sick and throw up. The crew was good about providing bags, sniffing salt and ice packs but that didn't stop one guy from running to the trash can and trying to throw up into the small opening. He didn't exactly make it so there was throw up on the ground and side of the trash can. I'm sure he thought it was a good idea at the time but it was pretty disgusting since I was sitting close by. I think what made this an "okay" snorkeling excursion was the lack of communication from the crew prior to eating lunch and drinking a bunch of alcohol, that we'd be on very choppy water for 45 mins. I'm not one to get sea sick but 20% of the passengers getting sick seems high to me and I'm sure many of them would have eaten and drank a bit less and probably avoided the macaroni salad and cookies if they knew we'd have such an extended and choppy ride back. Bottom line: Attentive and friendly crew, good food/drinks, but long choppy ride back made for a less than great snorkeling excursion. read more

We booked a Napali Coast tour with Holo Holo and it was easily one of the best experiences of my life. Captain Kelly was amazing and very funny. The crew was so attentive and kind and was always making sure everyone had everything they needed and were safe (bumpy ride) We stoped to snorkel for about 45 minutes and also stopped and saw so many dolphins along the way! Pretty much the whole thing could improve. I thought about giving more stars, but what I liked about it was the natural beauty of the island which has nothing to do with the boat tour. But they lied and told us there was two snorkel spots and we might not make the second one. They told me beforehand when weather was looking questionable that you get a partial refund if you can't do everything in the itinerary. Well turns out they didn't refund anything, they even state they never told me any of that like I just imagined it. The food was not good at all, and my 10 year old was having trouble in the water with his mask and nobody even tried to help us. Luckily me and my son would never let a bad experience ruin our vacation, but I do not recommend using this company at all. read more

What an AMAZING experience!! We did the 7 hour boat trip starting at 6 AM which included breakfast, lunch with an open bar, snorkeling (gear provided), and the most beautiful views! The coast line is so insanely beautiful and the crew was sooooo nice and attentive. I am so happy we did this! The boat goes fast and it got a little choppy and everyone got soaked at least a few times. The Crew was very helpful and friendly, they offered information as we passed areas. However our tour was rough due to the choppy ocean water, thinking back I'm surprised we went out in such bad conditions. It was so bad that our butts came off the seat a handful of times. About 75% of the trip was in rougher waters. It was so choppy 6 people that we knew of became sick while we were out. Many people couldn't eat as the motion was unstable. Some attempted and were successful as others were not, we did not eat. The crew offered to help anyone to their seat with their food. With all that said, if the weather was better I think we would have all enjoyed the trip better. Holo Holo Charters have a great boat and helpful/informative crew. Just be cautious of the ocean's conditions, if they are reporting larger swells I would suggest rescheduling or canceling because they along with all other companies will take you out in the bad weather. We took our trip in mid November, maybe other months the water would be calmer. read more

History

Established in 1997.

In 1988, Kevin sailed from the West Coast to Hawaii, soon after he established "Multis by Millett", a boat-building business on Kauai. Millett is recognized as one of Hawaii's premier multi-hull designer-builders. By 1997, Kevin saw the opportunity to design and build his own boat. With this extraordinary vessel, Holo Holo Charters Inc. was established. "HoloHolo" is a state-of-the-art, 65-foot powered catamaran designed specifically for Kauai's ocean conditions with safety, comfort, and efficiency in mind. "Leila" is a beautiful, 50-foot powered sailing catamaran; her hull design and 60-foot mast increase performance for fast trade-wind sailing. "Adventurer II & III" are the newest additions to our fleet. These identical 40-foot, hard-bottom, fiberglass Rigid Hull Inflatables (RHIBs) are fast and comfortable, with stadium-style cushioned seating, a retractable shade canopy, and an enclosed marine head.

Meet the Business Owner: Kevin M.

Understanding the demand for truly world class touring vessels on Kauai, Kevin Millett created Holo Holo Charters Inc. In 1988 the Milletts sailed from the West Coast to Maui where Kevin was hired to build the Trilogy III. By 1990, they moved to Kauai where they established, "Multis by Millett," a boat building business. Millett is recognized as one of Hawaii's premier multi-hull designer builders. Yes if you are prone to motion sickness. Also sticking towards the back of the catamaran helps. I did both and had no troubles.

Nothing onboard the cruise is fancy. Wear whatever you are comfortable in as long as it is respectful of the other passengers.

Are children (at what age) permitted on the Sunset Cruise? We will have a 12 month old with us and are interested in this excursion after a friend's rave review.

I believe that children 5 and older are allowed. The waters are rough and the solo little boy on our Sunset Cruise got sick. I would make childcare arrangements for the little if you can! Best of luck and have fun!

Took the 7-hour Na Pali-to-Niihau trip. Waters were extremely calm, which made for an even better opportunity to explore around Northeast coast of Niihau. Unless you are invited by the owners of Niihau and the community there, you'll never step foot on the "Forbidden Island". This is probably your best opportunity to see it up close and get great snorkeling in. The Na Pali is always beautiful, and this time was no different. The cruise up the coast went quick because the weather and crew were very pleasant and you never felt like time was dragging, always spectacular views of the Na Pali and the beaches and valleys. Saw plenty of Spinner Dolphins while traveling that coastline. Many turtles were popping up. June is not a time to see whales; which is okay, cuz otherwise, you may see whales, but the waters can be rough, and weather unseemly, as whales are around in winter waters, not summer time. The trip across the channel was about an hour. We anchored and snorkeled at Lehua Rock, a very cool crater off the Niihau coast. Fantastic water, refreshing, tons of brightly colored fish cool coral; a few turtles floating around, and even a Monk seal swimming with us. The seal scared the crap outta me at first, I thought the dang thing was "something else" at first. It swam only 10 feet away and never seemed bothered by our presence, it just swam back and forth under us. We ended with another coastal tour of Niihau after lunch; after lunch was also BEER! All in all, a very nice and memorable tour. A breakfast, a coastal tour, a channel crossing, snorkeling, a lunch, free beer, another coastal tour, another channel crossing. The crew (Captain Ian, Jason, JC, and Abraham) did very well. It was like hanging out with your bruddahs and couzins from Kauai. They helped make the time enjoyable and it was hard to believe it took 7 hours total. The crew felt like they were part of the tourist group just chilling with us, yet also making sure I had a drink in my hand. Very good trip overall and recommended. read more

We had an unforgettable experience on the Na Pali Coast sunset dinner cruise -- truly one of the most breathtaking sights we've ever seen. The Na Pali Coast is beyond words. At times it genuinely felt like we were inside a painting -- dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear skies, and ocean views that didn't feel real. We were also lucky enough to spot mother whales and their babies, which made the experience even more special. The sunset was absolutely stunning -- one of those moments you just pause and take in. I'll be honest -- I personally got very seasick and unfortunately spent a good portion of the ride not feeling well. That said, I don't typically get sick on larger cruises, so this is something to consider if you're sensitive to motion on smaller boats. What truly stood out, though, was the incredible crew. Captain Tom, with 39 years of experience, made us feel completely safe and in good hands the entire time. You can tell he's deeply knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his guests. Jazmin and Cristina were absolutely wonderful -- so warm, attentive, and full of positive energy. They clearly love what they do, and it shows in how they take care of everyone on board. Their kindness and professionalism made a huge difference, especially when I wasn't feeling well. As for the food and drinks -- they were not the highlight of the experience, and if that's your main expectation, you may be disappointed. However, if your goal is to see one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, feel safe, and be taken care of by an amazing crew, this is absolutely the right choice. Despite the seasickness, I'm so glad we did it. The views, the wildlife, and the people made it a truly memorable experience. read more

Unbelievable!!!!!!!! I've been all over the world, yet I rarely take the time to write reviews for paid adventures. However, after spending a day with CPT Ian, Austin, Bronson, and Aaron on the Super Tour, I'm enthusiastic about giving this company and its crew, the credit they deserve. First off, the vessel. State of the art Catamaran with plenty of comfortable spots to sit and numerous safety measures to lessen any paranoia. The crew was incredibly professional, courteous, informative, and would bend over backwards to ensure that every single person was having a wonderful day on the vessel. Oh the wildlife! Coming out of the port, we were LITERALLY led by a bottlenose dolphin. It was swimming 3 feet in front of the boat! The first thing I thought was, surely they paid this dolphin to do this......but then I remembered that dolphins would have no way of spending the money. We also encountered a huge pod of spinner dolphins.....again, swimming directly next to the boat, and spinning in the air in from of us. But the most amazing experience of the day was watching hump back whales breaching out of the water. CPT Ian was very strategic in getting us in the right position to be able to view this once in a lifetime opportunity, but at the same time being respectful to the mother and her calf. Snorkling: We were taken to by far the best snorkeling spot I've ever experienced. The reef is at a shelf that drops straight down 150feet. This enables you to experience large wildlife. We had a 4ft reef shark swim directly under us, as well as a monk seal. In all, I highly recommend this charter to anyone. The scenery, wildlife, and crew make it a excellent value. You won't regret it!!! read more

I am so happy with our amazing day aboard Holoholo--the fast, seaworthy, dual-engine-powered catamaran with Captain Glenn at the helm! The boat has exterior decks, seating, and open air indoor seating to get out of the elements (if needed). There are also 2 restrooms. We chose the Ni'ihau + Nā Pali super tour and it was a day we won't forget! The crew was amazing...vibes were immaculate! The Yacht Rock playlist was perfect! Daniel, Sara, and Jon made an outstanding crew! They were super friendly, attentive, and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and more. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, pastries, fruit, and good coffee. Lunch included make-your-own deli sandwiches, salad, and a large veggie tray with amazing hummus. Seeing the Nā Pali coast from this view was so incredible! Snorkeling at Ni'ihau was in the clearest water I have ever seen. We saw Hawaiian monk seals and many types of fish native only to Hawaii. We were anchored at the edge of a 200 foot "seawall" and visibility to at least 100 feet was crazy! If you love breathtaking scenery, boating with a crew that treats you like family, and amazing underwater views, then this is the trip you should book! read more

While we were in Kauai, we entertained several guest and ended up going on three Holo Holo sunset cruises. Twice with Captain Rich and once with Captain Drew. The first cruise with Captain Rich had calm seas and we stopped countless times to see whales and some with their calves. The second cruise was with Captain Rich and the water was much rougher but we still say several whales and the Napali coast up to the Kalalau Valley. The last cruise was with Captain Rich again with mates Jake and Emily. Water was very rough but we were able to get to the Kalalau Valley again and saw some whales. Each cruise had the crew providing us with phenomenal service. Going up to each guest to ask if they would like a drink and/or food. They took great care of my wife and a friend that got a little seasick on two different cruises. We really cannot say enough about the great cruises we had. My wife and I were given free T shirts twice because we were repeat customers. We were fortunate to see three uniquely beautiful sunsets and plenty of whales, turtles and on one cruise, dolphins. We highly recommend Holo Holo charters for the sunset cruise while you are in Kauai. You will not be disappointed. read more

Last night my husband and I went on the sunset cruise of the Na Pali Coast. It was a 3.5 hr tour and it was a highlight of our trip! The captain was very knowledgeable and had 30 yrs of experience under his belt (which was reassuring). The crew was also amazing. They took great care of everyone, making sure everyone got something to eat and drink, helping us navigate around the boat while going over large waves, and assisting anyone who might have felt a little sea sick. The tour was gorgeous too! We started in calm water and saw so many whales and dolphins! Once we got closer to the Na Pali Coast the waters were very rough. Huge waves. BUT the captain and crew did really well at communicating with everyone and got us close to the gorgeous Coast and allowed us to take photos too! The Na Pali Coast was just breathtaking! I've never seen anything like it! On our way back we got to watch the sun set and it was just beautiful! If you're hesitant about spending the money for this tour, don't be! It's completely worth the money!! Trust me!! read more

Do not miss taking Holo Holo charters up the Napali coast if you go to Kauai. We went on "Leila" the catamaran for a 5 hour cruise and loved it so much that we signed up for the 7 hour trip to Niihau a couple of days later. Both trips go along the Napali coast, but the 7 hour trip also goes across to the "Forbidden Island" of Niihau. The crew was great - friendly, calm, informative, and fun. The captains were responsible and safe. They did not have too many people on the boat - plenty of room to move around. They slowed down when they saw wildlife and tried to give us opportunities to look and take photographs. The sights were SPECTACULAR! We saw dolphins, humpback whales, turtles, flying fish, birds, seals, and lots of tropical fish. If you have the time and snorkeling is a big draw, and don't mind getting up early (meet at 6 am), do the 7-hour tour over to Niihau. The snorkeling out there is 10 times better than anywhere else on Kauia. read more

Our sunset cruise with Holo Holo Charters was absolutely phenomenal! Even though it was a rough season due to the time of year, the staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an amazing time. Their skill in managing the ship through choppy waters was truly impressive, and they took the time to personally connect with each person and group on board, making the experience feel so welcoming and personalized. The boat ride itself was so much fun--especially when they raised the sails! It added such an exciting touch, and we were even treated to the sight of a stunning rainbow. The food was fantastic, with delicious offerings that perfectly complemented the whole evening. From start to finish, this was an unforgettable experience. We had a wonderful trip, did the Na Pali sunset tour. The Na Pali coast is completely worth the cost to go there. We went in winter so the water was a little rough but it was a clear day and the colors and shadows cast by the afternoon sun were stunning. Our captain (Drew) was very knowledgeable and really added to the experience by discussing where and how the ancient Hawaiians lived. The food was decent, started with cheese/meet and crackers, dinner was a taco bar (fish and pulled pork) and they were very generous with the beer/wine/mai tais. It does take some strength to hold on when you're moving fast in the waves, we're healthy seniors and did fine. They say no kids under 5 (i think it was) and I think that's a good policy, I wouldn't have wanted my kids along when they were young since you really do have to hold on sometimes. Been to Kauai many times and taken lots of snorkeling & ocean cruises. I must say the NaPali Sail & Snorkel Cruise with Holo Holo Charters is my new favorite. Captain Drew and crew members Kevin and Jessie were a joy. They obviously love their jobs and it shows. Safety of guests is paramount and we were given a good briefing prior to sailing and watched carefully while snorkeling. While on board the captain and crew were a wealth of interesting information and stories about the islands, the marine life, the topography, the human history, and folk lore. We were followed by a couple groups of dolphins for awhile - so fun. Light breakfast; nice lunch; cocktails after snorkeling. Not the cheapest snorkel tour on Kauai, but well worth the cost. Absolutely breathtaking views of the NaPali Coast. A really fun way to spend one of your days on Kauai! read more

I cannot get back fast enough. It started with an adventurous ride out, all hoping to see some dolphins but it wasn't in the cards. Covered in salt from the splashing ride out we reached our destiny and was provided a natural shower (queue waterfall pic) to rinse off with. Not having the strongest of stomachs I was a little nervous I would be ill...luckily that wasn't in the cards either! But even if I was, we were reassured and caringly scanned by the best crew (Captain Glenn, Pat and Josh) throughout the entire trip for any green faces that may be in need of assistance and a "talking down". The ride back was beyond words with hundreds of beautiful photo opportunities accompanied by stories and lessons to learn about each of the amazing sights to be seen. All finished off with a surreal sunset. read more

We had an unforgettable experience on the boat cruise with the Holo Holo Cru! Our captain was like a sea life Jedi--he had an incredible eye for spotting wildlife. He even pointed out a tiger shark eating a bird just by catching a glimpse of a fin! We saw whales several times, and the captain's knowledge of the island, its culture, and the movies filmed there made the tour even more engaging. When my husband got seasick, the crew was amazing. They knew exactly what to do and were there for him every step of the way, making sure he was comfortable and cared for. We also saw thousands of dolphins and had an incredible time snorkeling on the reef, surrounded by colorful fish. I 100% recommend this boat tour--it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! read more

At first I thought wow, seems like a lot of money for a boat ride around the corner. I was wrong. Everyone was very professional from the time you arrive until you are back at their shop. A quick shuttle ride drops you off at the end of the Hanalei river where you take a shuttle boat another five minutes to the raft moored in the bay. Captain Spencer and deck hand Leigon were awesome to say the least. We had a relatively calm day and got to go into the caves along the coast, through waterfalls and ALL the way to the end of the coast where we boated alongside dozens of dolphins. On the way back stopped at Tunnels beach to snorkel for a while and were fed a nice lunch before heading back to the bay. Best thing I've ever done on Kauai! read more

We did a tour with these guys about 10 days ago. They were absolutely awesome, from beginning to end,. Captain Ian, Zena, and another crew member (I'm embarrassed to admit I forgot his name) could not have been better for the role. They hustled to help anybody/everybody for the entire trip. They pulled off an impressive number of extras. They were very busy, yet they frequently checked in with everybody to ask how they were doing in some rough waters. They were incredibly sympathetic and attentive to anybody who was not doing well. In spite of being very busy, they offered to fetch our camera and they offered to take pictures of our group. I'm just amazed by the experience these people delivered, and for a very reasonable cost. read more

We went on a sunset dinner cruise to the Na Pali Coast in Kauai. Drew Kamili and Jess were amazing crew members. They made sure everyone was fully taken care of. Took pictures and served drinks. They were so upbeat and a lot of fun. Everything was great. My only complaint was the dinner buffet. While it was delicious it was wraps with BBQ pork and added ingredients. When the wind blew we all ended up with BBQ sauce/juice sprayed all over our clothes. My husbands shirts was so covered. Maybe not the best food dish to eat while boating into the wind. We both had new shorts and shirts on and hope the stains come out. Otherwise it was perfect. Gorgeous scenery and just a really fun time. read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Leila Napali Sunset Sail in late September for our 40th wedding anniversary. It was a quality experience. The crew took extremely good care of all the guests. Their genuine, helpful, gracious, and adept service created the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful experience. We have taken the sunset tour with other companies, but Holo Holo provided a noticeably better experience. The boat was newer and very clean. The food and drinks were ample and delicious. The service was over the top. No hype, no attitude, just pure friendliness and an excellent sail. We would highly recommend this Charter company. read more

We took the 3:00 sunset/ booze cruise on 5/17/2019. Our crew was DYNAMITE.. Capt. Drew was just like Captain Ron From Overboard.... super cool and a very smooth operator. His great way of communicating facts and navigating the rough ways was awesome. Jess, our Marine Biologist hostess with the mostess was super cool and full of knowledge about our Dolphins that we saw....... and she cleaned my glasses .... The Ni'ihau/Nā Pali tour was amazing and by far the best thing we did on our trip to Kauai! During the boat ride we saw the sunrise, toured the Nā Pali Coast, snorkeled at Lehua, and went past Ni'ihau. There were a bunch of whales, dolphins, and fish. We also got to see a few monk seals and even snorkeled with a manta ray! Captain Drew and the crew (Ahren, Emily, and Kama) were very friendly and accommodating. The food was also great, too. This is definitely worth it (both the Ni'ihau/Nā Pali 7 hour tour and the sunset tour - we did that one last year in the summer) and I completely recommend it. read more

Our tour with Holo Holo on 3/28/2025 was a wonderful experience! The crew gave us so much information on Kauai and what we were seeing and that enhanced our tour so much! We were six travelers including grandpa, grandma, mom, dad and a 14 year old and an 11 year old. We would recommend this Na Pali Coast sunset dinner to cruise to everyone. The catamaran wasn't too big so that that the captain could bring us up close to the caves and waterfalls. So beautiful!
