10/30/24 Stunning, unspoiled beauty, one of the smaller beach parks but definitely worth a visit for swimming, snorkeling & picnics. This beach park is located adjacent to an actual salt pond that is operational for locals. There are a few benches & shaded structures you may have a barbecue or picnic. There is a manned lifeguard tower. Parking is plentiful. There is a homeless encampment here, you don't bother them, they won't bother you. Enjoy the beach! read more

Easily accessible from the main road. Large parking lot and several shaded picnic areas. There is a long thing rock area that makes part of this beach safe to swim even with it being winter. The beach itself is fairly exposed and really not any shade like many of the other Kaua'i beaches. Feels like a favorite beach among locals. read more

Absolutely beautiful beach lots of sand little bit of surf but absolutely swimmable the surf. Makes it fun. You could snorkel here as well. Lots of fish to see plenty of parking. There's even barbecue and tables along with bathroom facilities really great on your own or with family. read more

Perfect for families. The parking lot is very close to the sand. There are pavilions with picnic tables under. There is a bathroom and shower area. There is a manned lifeguard station. BEST reason that this place is great for kids is that there is a rock wall that breaks the strong waves into more manageable ones. My favorite part is the salt field behind the beach. read more

Our original intention was to just stop by this beach park for a quick snack and move on. Instead, we ended up spending a few hours, snorkeling and swimming. Such a beautiful park and the weather was amazing on the day we came. The protected shallow areas were fantastic for snorkeling and the occasional waves you feel made it so much fun. The sand was soft and perfect for, well, beaching. Everything about this beach was so memorable. The clear greenish water contrast beautiful with the blue sky and you just forget that a few hours passed by. While we were there, there was a brief shark sighting and folks got out of the water, alarmed. We came out of the water briefly just to check it out from afar. It was a cool experience! read more

This is one of my favorite beaches in Kauai. There is a good chance you will see a seal or two. The water is calm and it's perfect for swimming or dipping. Also not very crowded. The beach is clean and wide. There is plenty of free parking and restrooms are near by. read more

I'm going for 3 stars because it was SO windy that we couldn't really do anything here. The sand was blowing, the trees were blowing, and my hair was everywhere. The water looks beautiful, but the pounding waves made it look formidable. One day we'll come back and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the tables under a shelter. Came here for one night of camping while on Kauai doing some geology field work for a few days and ended up leaving because of a few people following too close kind of thing. Ended up camping at Anini Beach that night, driving across the island after dark because things just weren't going right here. Arrived as the sun was setting, field work had taken longer than anticipated and I was running a bit later than I had wanted. One group was being festive and having a big social gathering, nothing wrong with that. I had just had a long day and wanted some sleep were it wasn't too loud, and soon realized Anini would be a better place for that the night I was planning on staying here. So not so much a place issue as poor planning on my part. The areas with running water were a little grimy, but it was the summer months so heavy traffic can result in heavy wear of amenities. The highlight of my visit was the stray cat that found me and kept me company at dinner, I even named it Cloudy because its markings reminded me of clouds and a Clouded Leopard. It was pretty social and pretty small so it had no problem jumping up on the bench and watching me as I pulled out dinner supplies and sneaking up on the rotisserie chicken I brought with me to eat for my dinner. The camping area is spacious and had a number of open spots. Ended up leaving after a guy followed me on my way to the bathroom... I decided to wait and go somewhere else. read more

HAWAII 2020 ADVENTURES #8: BEACH FOR BOTH LOCALS AND TOURISTS They say that in Hawaii on Sundays you go to church or beach. On the Monday before Thanksgiving I came to this beach in the afternoon. That day would be my last day in Kauai. The day before I went to Poipu Beach to surf for the first time. After all the sightseeing in Kauai for 5 days I wanted to go to a beach for some rest and relaxation before I left for Honolulu. Since I was staying at Waimea this beach is about a 10-minute drive where I was staying. There was a lot of people that day but not heavily congested that I couldn't find parking. I arrived there in the mid afternoon and stayed there until the late afternoon soaking the sun and water. The area of the beach is unique as one part of the shore there is no barrier but the other part is divided by a rocky ridge that forms a lagoon. What makes this beach a relaxing atmosphere is the currents near the shore aren't strong. The clear water in the lagoon makes it a soothing feel. As the waves in this beach isn't strong enough for surfing this beach doesn't have a vibrant atmosphere but a laid back surrounding. This beach is suitable not only for a family with kids but also for someone who just wants to enjoy its vacation in Kauai. read more

Not only is there a lovely beach that offers good snorkeling, but there's also a fascinating tide pool area if you're a naturalist. I saw and learned about rock boring sea urchins (which I didn't know existed!) and saw many fish and kelp too. There are restrooms and a covered picnic area with grills if you want to make a whole day at the beach. I did hear the lifeguard warning folks in the ocean about rip tides, so be aware of surroundings if you're planning to venture far from shore. read more

Pretty secluded, nice sand, not crowded at all on a Thursday at the beginning of December. There are two bays, and the one on the right has a rock break that slows most of the waves/current. Definitely recommend it for a relaxing beach. read more

Don't let the pics I took deceive you...........to be honest, half of this park has been overrun by a large homeless encampment, and the place reeks of urine! While visiting Kauai over the weekend, after having breakfast I decided to check out the Salt Ponds in Hanapepe. Upon turning on my GPS on my phone, I was led off the beaten path to a secluded beach park. Upon entering the beach park near the Salt Pond Beach Park sign, you will see the Salt Ponds...........pretty cool! Unfortunately while looking around, I also noticed a lot of rubbish spewed all around the entrance of the park, and a large homeless tent encampment on one side of the park. The park smelt like a sewer, as I could smell a strong urine odor from the parking lot. What made matters worst is when the hot sun hits the asphalt of the parking lot..........the urine smell was just overwhelming! On the opposite side of the park (further from the entrance area), I found the park area to be pretty empty. This side of the park was beautiful, as there was a nice green open space, with a beautiful sandy beach. The water was so blue & clear..........just beautiful! Unfortunately while looking around, I could not escape the reeking smell of urine reeking from the park area, so I realized it was time to pack it up & leave. read more

How did I not of this place?? I've been to Kauai so many times and never heard of it?? (maybe it's b/c I didn't have kids then...) Anyways, perfect for families. The cove/barrier makes it safe for little ones in the water. I saw a few people snorkeling, but not sure if they saw any fish. There are bathrooms and trash cans. Water is beautiful! A beautiful calm beach that's a bit out of the way down on the south shore. We were on our way back from Waimea canyon when decided to stop off and check this place out. It's in a bit of an odd place, you go past the town recycling center, past a small cemetery and all the way to the end of the road. The park itself is pretty big with a good amount of parking. There's also bathrooms but like so many of these in the parks, it's a bit rustic. It was a Saturday afternoon and there were several groups of locals who had camped out for day to enjoy the nice weather. It also appears that the park is popular with people camping in small pup tents but they didn't seem to have an impact on the feel of the beach. Even midday on a Saturday it wasn't too crowded and it's a great gentle sloping beach. There are several spots that are very sheltered and good for little kids. We even saw a monk seal lounging on the beach after a long night of fishing. Nice spot to swim or hang out. read more

This was one of our favorite beaches on Kauai. We were here in early October of 2019 and honestly loved everything about it. The beaches were sandy and there were covered shelters if to hot. The water was fairly calm and we enjoyed snorkeling. Great place to spend the day ! Will for sure be back to this beach when we come back to Kauai. read more

A hidden gem. Lots of parking. Quiet each time we have been here. A reef protected bay good for kids.

Nice clean beach with lifeguard and picnic tables and bbqs. The lifeguard will tell you not to get on the rocks for safety

Loved it here. Drove out from Anahola beach. Was worth it. The water on the west side was so warm. The salt makes you very buoyant so its great for those that may not be excellent swimmers. Also the ground was fairly soft sand although I keep my water shoes on. Deffinatly saw some locals. I was blessed to hear two different people play music. one sung a Hawaiian version of some oldies. The other my personal favorite was a local man playing ukulele. Was so great. Lots of campers here and people bbq. waves so mellow good for kids, families. Good for everyone. I would come early and for the day. I like the beach after 2pm because the sun is more mild to my city skin. Keep in mind the cute neighborhood closes at 5pm. so if you want to shop or eat must go early. read more

Hubby and I had a good time out here on one of our last days on the island. We originally came to have some water gun, snorkel, swim and enjoy the sun and then catch the sunset. It was quite windy when we were out there and our stuff kept flying all over the place but while we were on the sand everything was good and when we were in the water, we just didn't care. Snorkeling was easy. The water has some protection so the waves aren't so strong close to shore. We were able to easily put on our gear while in the water and swim out to the rocks to check out all the cool colourful fish. We could have had free boogie boards during our stay but thought we wouldn't use them. Next time I think we'll take them anyway...better prepared than not. The snorkel equipment would have been a lot cheaper also, again, that darned hindsight. We still had a good day out and the sun was shining. We dried off and left for some food and ended up driving to Kekaha Beach for our sunset viewing which was just as good. read more
