    Kiahuna beach

I am surprised this beach is not mentioned as much as compared to its neighboring beach, Poipu beach. Kiahuna beach is by far my favorite beach on Kauai. We're staying at the Kiahuna Plantation property and it's an easy and short walk to the beach. Parking is along the street unless you're staying at the resorts near by like the Sheraton and Marriot vacation properties. The beach is super clean and the water is swimmable. Visited in June and it wasn't crowded at all.

Having stayed at Kiahuna Plantation which fronts this beautiful beach, there's nothing to complain about. Just a few steps from our unit, without having to worry about parking, I was able to enjoy early morning strolls, and my favorite...at dusk when it felt like it was just me, the crashing waves, a lone surfer from afar, and a horizon deflecting orange and purple hues. There is access to the public but parking can be a struggle because of the beach front resorts (such as Sheraton) making it an advantage for guests checked-in with lesser people to share the shore with. I find the sand finer here vs Poipu Beach that getting in the water makes it more pleasant to the feet especially without the big rocks. We spent an entire day here beach-bumming it that I wish we could've done one more time before leaving the island.

During our stay on Kauai, I think I could easily say this was one of my favorite beaches. It wasn't as crowded as some of the others and that's always a plus. The waves there can get pretty intense near the shore, so I think you need to watch kids that are playing near the waters edge. My main issue was how many sea shells there were closer to when you walk in, it just hurt a little bit. But once you got past a few steps it was regular sand and totally fine. This is super close to Poi'Pu beach if you want to move beaches part way through the day or something. There are more trees, making more shade, if that's something you'd want. There is a large grass area too where you can sit if you or someone with you didn't want to be in the sand. There is also a bathroom nearby on the other side of the grass area. Overall, we had a great time and I definitely recommend checking this beach out.

This is a really nice beach located directly in front of the Sheraton in Poipu. Access to the beach is easy too. We found a small parking lot (which, luckily has space) and walked a few minutes to the beach. Interestingly enough, you can use the facilities at the Sheraton ( bathrooms at the pool, umbrella rentals, etc) which was really great! Much better than relying on the public beach bathrooms at most of the other beaches on the the island. Poipu gets the most sunny days. I recommend this beach for swimming mostly. Snorkeling is a little further out along the rocks. So you can do both. I prefer this beach to the overly crowded and chaotic Poipu Beach.

This is an awesome beach for swimming. It is located in front of the Sheraton Resort in Poi'pu, so getting to it can be tricky. Just remember, Sheraton does not own the beach, just be respectful if you walk through their property to get there. Also, there is a tiny beach parking lot on the right, otherwise, it's street parking unless you want to get a ticket or towed from a private Sheraton lot. The depth of the ocean is a gradual slope, but settles at about 7-8 feet for quite a while. There is a bit of current here, but it shouldn't move you around too much. There is a nice tide that lets you bounce in the water and provides a nice place for keikes (kids) to bodysurf.

Best beach we went to, always windy but as long as you bring heavy enough items to weigh down your stuff when you are in the water it is amazing. Water is so blue, waves are big but not scary big, and we saw a seal

It is easily accessible by car via a paved road (Ainako Street) betwen the Grand Hyatt and the golf course. My wife and I spent a couple of hours here, mainly because ironwood trees grow in the sand towards the back of the beach, and provided shade for where we sat down (it wasn't too crowded even in the early afternoon, and found parking in the small dirt parking lot adjoining). This is the beach that the folks staying at the Grand Hyatt would use, so saw loungers and umbrellas setup specifically for them. There was also good 5g reception so was able to surf the web while watching people surf the waves. The surf here is strong, and the shore break is very close to shore. This meant that folks were surfing and body boarding very close to shore, and I was amazed how they were able to avoid each other (and swimmers)...it definitely takes skills to do that...this is not a surf learning beach. Even saw one guy enter a barrel, being engulfed...have not seen one so close to shore before. I did enter the water and enjoyed it until a big wave caught me good and threw me ashore like a rag doll. Luckily I didn't pull anything, so decided not to push my luck anymore for the rest of the trip.

My wife and I visited on Day 4 of our Kauai vacation in the early afternoon, and continued to understand why it is so popular with tourists. The area around the beach area is built up, with retail businesses within walking distance. There is usually plenty of free parking, but on this day, the past week's rains had flooded one of the parking lots, so there were not as many spots. My wife still found a good spot though, and we walked the short distance to the shoreline. There is a protected man-made wading area towards the east of the beach. It is easy to wade out to the lava rock retaining wall, with the water being maybe 3 feet there. There are facilities and lifeguards in the area. One of their jobs was to keep folks from getting too close to 4 sea turtles that were sunning on the sand near that area.

Even surfers set out here to catch some waves. There are a lot of rocks, more rocks than sand, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I highly recommend water socks to protect your feet. There's a great entrance point that's pretty smooth and easy on your feet, but the waves can be choppy. The snorkeling reminded me a lot of Two Step Beach on the Big Island because you didn't have to swim out very far to see fish. There were a ton of fish out there! There were also a couple of turtles further out, but there were quite a few people hanging out around them. Remember not to get too close to them! :) We visited this beach several times because it was right outside our condo complex. At one point we were just sunbathing and playing in the water and ended up having the whole beach to ourselves late in the afternoon! It was awesome!
