Located on the southern coast of Kauai, this natural lava tube blowhole has been known to shoot seawater as high as 50ft into the air. According to local folklore, a giant lizard which once protected this portion of the island got stuck in the lava tube. And the lizard's roar is now heard every time the Spouting Horn Blowhole blasts water into the air. There is a paved parking lot here, so parking is not an issue. While the actual blowhole is not accessible, you can still get a great view and awesome pictures at the fenced viewing area. There's not much else to do here so it never gets too crowded. As people come and go after about 10mins. Bathrooms facilities are also available here if you need a restroom break. read more

Neat stop on the south set of beaches in Kauai. There is a rocky coastline with some sort of underwater cave, and when the waves roll in they crush upwards and occasionally shoot out of a hole some 30 feet or so. Hence the spouting horn. There is a little parking lot and a public restroom here. Nice place to swing by on your way up to Waimea Canyon etc. Not far from some good coffee stops, shopping and other touristy stuff. read more

Decided to check out the Spouting Horn since it was close to Poipu Beach. There is a parking lot as well as an area to enjoy a picnic. The color of the water is beautiful and it was interesting to see the water come through many of the blow holes. A nice area to enjoy the coastline. read more

A quick stop but a must see (IMO) if you are in the Poipu area. Not too far from the Koloa area. The Spouting Horn blowholes are accessible through a small park. -Plenty of parking. -Tons of chickens. -Picnic tables are also available to use if you want to spend more time there. -Very close to Poipu Beach. -Public restrooms are open. The blowholes are glorious wonder of nature that provide endless views as the tide rolls in and out. Stayed to watch the spout activity for about 10 minutes. On our last day in Kauai, we made the drive out to Spouting Horn in Koloa. There was plenty of parking available in the lot, which made things easy. The short walk to the viewing area was worth it--the breeze was refreshing and the view was stunning. Everyone around was polite and patient, taking turns to snap photos and videos of the spout, which made the experience even more enjoyable. There are tables available if you want to bring lunch, but be mindful of the ever-present Kauai chickens roaming around. A quick stop, easy access, and beautiful scenery--it's definitely worth visiting while on the island. read more

Lots of little spouting holes to the right too. Saw a turtle and fish swimming. This is free and easy. No playground. No bbq pits. Not much shade. Windy. So hold onto your hat. This was a fun little stop and short drive from our condo. There's currently some construction on the road and some equipment being stored near here. It wasn't extremely crowded while we were there and you don't need to spend a ton of time here. There's ample parking available. Legend has it when this was formed, a giant lizard or mo'o got caught inside of it, and that's what the "moan" is when the blowhole goes off. It's a cool thing to see if you're in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. read more

Nice clean small park setting with parking and restroom. Short distance from the Koloa area, so it works perfectly for bringing to go food to sit at the table to munch away while having live show of spouting water beyond the folks standing at the fence which has the closest views of course. Seems some were disappointed at the lack of spouting here. We happened to be there on a good wave day, since there were plenty of powerful waves slamming and spouting to be seen, so maybe it'll depend on the conditions. Nice little spot for a quick 5-10min pit stop. I would recommend coming at high tide so that the effect is more dramatic. Glad I stopped by, but wouldn't necessarily make a trip out of it unless you were already planning on being in Poipu. Restrooms available. read more

Driving the coast, this wasn't my choice to follow the signs and find out what a spouting horn was. But luckily along the way we did discover where one of Kauai's best botanical gardens was located. Like many other reviews, it's just a hole in the rocks shooting water up in the air as the waves crash in. People spend probably five minutes here, take a pic, use the nearby restroom, and leave. We stopped by this place because it was near a beach but I would not recommend going out of your way to come here. Lots of parking in their lot with bathrooms. It's about 2-3 min walk from the lot to the fenced area to see the spouting horn. The reason I wouldn't recommend going out of the way is that is a bit underwhelming. Probably stayed a total of 15 mins here to see if we could see anything bigger. The view is nice and there are a couple of tables near the fenced/viewing area but there are so many people there that it wouldn't be relaxing eating there. You can not access the water beyond the gate so again, you wouldn't spend too much time here. read more

We were early for a dinner reservation and decided to keep driving along the coast. Stumbled into this nice quick little gem. Easy to find and a parking lot right in front of it (left side of parking lot is reserved for buses). Once parked it's about 100 yards to a fence. You can see on both sides the spouting Horn, we heard the howling of the horn on a few of the wave crashes. If you look closely, you can some times spot turtles floating around the area. "Tourist Kine Things" on a recent Sunday in June, even though I've been here twice, it never gets boring. Super nice to experience this again, Amazingly beautiful as always, love the beautiful "blue" color of the ocean and sky. Spouting Horn is a blowhole located on the southern coast of Kauai located in the Koloa district. This area of Kauai is know for its crashing waves. These waves erodes lava rocks on the coastline which can create narrow openings as in case with Spouting Horn. I like the idea that it is fenced off , keep visitors from going close to the blowhole. Its much safer! It is really cool to observe and listen, ahh the joy of nature is amazing! I really enjoyed our quick visit here, Lucky to live Hawaii even though I don't live on Kauai. **Perfect photo opt. don't forget to take as much photos and vids. while here but if you can ask someone to take a photo for you, it is so much nicer than a selfie, from experience. I am so glad a kind visitor offered to take our photo, so glad we took the offer. read more

If you like natural wonders, you'll love Spouting Horn. It was windy today, and we were lucky to see small and big geysers. We also saw roosters, chickens, and their broods of little ones. March 7, 2023 was an incredibly windy day, and cool. We hung out for about fifteen minutes. We used the bathrooms before driving off. Once again, they had lots of toilet paper, but no soap or towels. The women's AND men's bathrooms were covered in graffiti. Wasn't that poetic or artsy. read more

We came across Spouting Horn while exploring Kauai. It was a neat little stop, you can be in and out in 10 mins. There is a little park so you could have a picnic if you wanted to dine with the many chickens that are roaming around. There is plenty of parking and also restrooms. It may not be one of the seven wonders of the world... It's definitely not on Kauai's 10 top things to see... But the Spouting Horn is absolutely a must see when visiting Poipu/Koloa located on the south shore of the island. For one... It's 100% free. On top of that, the view showcases the blues and greens of the Pacific backed up to the horizon of the beautiful sky above; it's tough to decipher where one starts and the other ends. From the mesmerizing sound it puts out to the majestic power the Ocean creates, every 20 seconds or so a burst of ocean water blasts into the air as the waves slam into the lava cliff shore. Visitors are able to observe from the fenced off area and take in the natural wonder of Spouting Horn caused by centuries of erosion. There is plenty of parking, onsite restrooms and a few picnic tables if you want to bring lunch and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. My recommendation is grabbing a Puka Dog & Lemonade in Poipu and heading over to Spouting Horn Park to enjoy the beautiful views. So forget the 7 "wonders" which are so overrated and come check out Kauai's best place on island to blow off some steam, err I mean mist. ;) read more

The roads were blocked due to the marathon race this morning. So after spending quite a bit of time navigating the roadblocks, we eventually arrived at the Spouting Horn. Perhaps the marathon was to thank for the empty parking lot! #winning It was nice to take in the view in peace, without people talking in the background of my video. You could hear the roaring of the waves from the parking lot. We saw a sea turtle - a first for me! There are restrooms here and picnic tables. Bring a sandwich and enjoy your lunch here. read more

You arent able to approach this as there is a gated fence. It is just a blowhole that spouts water that you can view from above and take pictures. People dont spend that long, spending probably about at max 10 minutes here. We spent longer only because next to the blowhole (to the right of it), there were turtles swimming along side the cliff. There is plenty of parking available. We visited around noon and it wasnt busy at all. read more

I don't know how else to rate this other than 5 stars. It's free, it's cool to see, and it requires very little effort to park and see the spouting horn. You can go at sunset and watch the horn spout. It's supposed to be a good spot to watch for humpback whales from December to May if you are in Kauai during those months. read more

We loved visiting this area! I had a family of 6 with me from age 10-70 and this was a fun quick activity for all to enjoy with minimal walking but enough to have us enjoy nature! My lil one was in awe of the sprouting horn and it was just a peaceful environment! It's a short quick visit and lots of lil beach areas around that you can relax! If your heading this way pack some beach chairs and snacks so you can enjoy after the sprouting horn. read more

"Legend of Spouting Horn: Hawaiian legend says that a very large lizard or "mo'o" guarded this coast and ate fishermen and anybody else that got too close. Once when a brave man named Liko entered the water he was attacked by the mo'o. To get away, he swam under the lava shelf and escaped through the tunnel." Parking is easy. No hiking down there. It's all fenced off..Read alot of Articles that there have been deaths here. The swell can change from moment to moment..I didn't see the spout blow that high, but the echos it made was amazing! read more

We enjoyed coming here when we were in the Poipu area. It was November 2020 and Covid travel restrictions left the place with few visitors. It was fine by us. Spent a good 15-20 minutes just watching and waiting for a good sized swell to come in and water to spout out... making the roaring sound. Legend has it a large mo'o (lizard) got stuck under the lava shelf when chasing a swimmer. The swimmer escaped by swimming through and out the blow hole but the mo'o couldnt fit and is now stuck there forever. The water escaping the opening in the rock shelf and the sound it makes is said to be the reptile's breath. Plenty of parking. Facilities are on site. People were socially distanced with masks on. I would certainly come back here on a bigger swell day to really see how high the water goes. I caught some good pics and vids of it but I'm sure it could be taller and louder. read more
