My fiancé and I did a Snorkel Cruise and it was one of our favorite things we did on our trip. It ended up being a beautiful day - warm and sunny! We loved snorkeling, but it was kind of a bummer that we did it first thing in the morning. I expected to snorkel maybe halfway through the tour. I got cold and tired because we hadn't eaten yet. It was great that they provided pool noodles to help float while snorkeling. We got to see spinner dolphins, whales AND a turtle! The views were stunning and unforgettable. The crew members were very nice and helpful. They offered interesting commentary on the Napali Coast along the way. At one point, my hat blew right off my head and Captain Kelly did not hesitate to stop and turn around to retrieve it! I would definitely do this again if we ever go back to Kauai! read more

My husband and I did the Sunset Napali Coast cruise and all I can say is WOW! This cruise took us to what might be the prettiest place I have ever been to. The views of the Napali Coast from the water are like nothing else and is a definite must see while on Kauai. Captain Cole and the crew (Jay and Gabe) were all amazing! Gabe taught us about Ni'ihau and its history off the top of his head. We saw ~30 or more humpback whales along the way along with dolphins and a few Albatrosses that flew by, and Jay had an informational pamphlet about orcas and humpbacks. Captain Cole taught us the history of many sights along the coast. The captain and crew made us all feel very safe and gave lots of instruction before boarding. While this is a dinner/sunset cruise, this is not a calm vessel that will just smoothly coast along the water. The catamaran goes very quickly and there is quite a bit of movement so you do have to constantly hold on to something if you plan to walk around. There are bathrooms onboard. As they mention in the disclaimers you will get wet (especially if you are in the front of the boat). We wore rain jackets which worked perfect and allowed us to sit up front and get some of the best views. I would also advise bringing a towel if you plan to sit up front. The dinner was delicious, but it is a bit tricky to eat on the boat given how much movement there is. Definitely doable, but if you are expecting a calm sit down dinner, this is not the cruise for you. If you are prone to motion sickness definitely take something beforehand! I am very prone to motion sickness, but took dramamine beforehand and was fine the whole trip. The cruise was also bottomless drinks which was amazing and we did a champagne toast at sunset. The whole trip took about 4 hours and we enjoyed every minute of it! It was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to get the best views of the NaPali Coast! read more

We took the sunset dinner cruise by Holo Holo and it was a wonderful experience - worth every penny! The views of the Napali coast were amazing. The crew was hands-on and kept tabs on everyone onboard. The captain of the ship communicated well and informed us ahead of time incase of approaching rough waters. I recommend having motion sickness tablets before boarding the boat incase you are prone to being seasick. read more

Great operation. Thorough, fun, safe, knowledgeable. Took the Na Pali coast cruise. The boat crew was so fun - lively, funny, engaging. They took care of everyone with a lot of personal attention. I really appreciated how they clearly cared that everyone was enjoying themselves. They were also very thorough about safety, clear on the rules but not at all heavy handed. Sea travel can be rough - we hit some real chop on the way back. They created a vibe of being competent and in control so people could relax. Those of us who wanted adventure also got to have it, staning on thr bow and riding the waves. Tours are a dice roll, all depending on the mix of people and guides. This crew knew how to keep people engaged, in the experience, feeling well led. Na Pali coast was beautiful. The soaring mountians and the colors of the water were magic. I went in the morning, traveling back in the afternoon, the colors of the mountains lit up, so I'd recommend the afternoon tour. Snorkeling was fun, lots of good fish and a sea turtle. read more

I am from Kauai and it was my first time going on a tour of the Na Pali. The ride on the boat was smooth and could see a lot of the beach area like Kekaha and Polihale. I enjoyed watching my family snorkel at Olokele bay/beach as there were lots of reef fish to see (even on the boat). The captain directed all the snorkelers to the honu (green sea turtles) that they found swimming around the area. Oh yeah, and we saw dolphins swimming along side the boat as we cruised to the Na Pali coast!! Once we got to the beginning of the Na Pali coast the captain (Kelly) directed all of us to see the classic coast. It was majestic to me and very picturesque. This is one tour I recommend all locals do to appreciate the Na Pali! The crew we had were awesome (captain Kelly, Gabe and Heather)!! They were very attentive to everyone! Signed up for the 7-hour Super Tour on their largest catamaran. Winds too high, water too rough on Saturday. Rebooked for Sunday, which turned out to have less rough seas. Still a little windy and sprinkling rain though. Captain Christian did a wonderful job of taking us out along the coastline toward calmer waters and drier skies. The catamaran ride was so fun and it was so exciting to see the wildlife! The captain gave interesting narration of the history and current situation of the Napali coast. The two mates, Johnnie and Jay, were very attentive to passenger needs and introduced themselves to each passenger. The food was quite good; they use a very good catering service. Check out the coconut cookies! And we discovered the Casa Azul lime margarita canned beverage they carried, which is really, really good! The conditions were not favorable to go out to the crater/wildlife sanctuary, but Captain Christian moored at a place near the coast where we were able to snorkel. We saw several beautiful fish and a couple of sea turtles grazing on the sea vegetation below. My husband and I both used the corrected vision snorkel masks they had on hand, which greatly enhanced our snorkel experience! From the boat we saw a school of spinner dolphins and some Pacific humpback whales with babies which crested and dove quite near our catamaran. We even glimpsed from afar a couple of them launching into the air and splashing back down! Overall, what we thought was going to be a questionable experience for the money, turned out to be a wonderful experience! So even if you think the weather won't cooperate and the ocean conditions aren't right, trust the captain and the fast-changing shoreline weather and you will have a great experience! (We are tourists from Ohio, so not good judges of boating conditions around the islands.) This is a class act, well-run outfit and we loved the Super Tour! read more

We went on this tour in May 2025. We were able to see dolphins and seals on our way to Ni'hau. When we arrived there we snorkeled and saw some smaller fish and reefs, but nothing too exciting. The boat does get a bit fast, so definitely take Dramamine or whatever motion sickness med that works for you before doing this tour if you're not a "boat person". There were about 35 people and there was at least one that we saw that lost their breakfast. It's a decent sized boat, but it can get crowded in certain areas when it's time to take pictures of specific landmarks. Lunch was just OK and they serve local beers which weren't bad. We enjoyed this for the most part, but probably wouldn't do it again. The crew was amazing and they made things interesting while we were in transit, especially Captain Jess. read more

Such a great time! Highly recommend for families (teens +), girls getaway, couples, whoever! I don't recommend this for kids (if that's even allowed with this charter company) because it does get choppy and I don't think they'd even have a good time. Additionally, the railings aren't child-friendly. We supposedly went on a calm day and the waves were quite big (Gabe said about a foot) but they felt bigger and once we picked up speed, man oh man, we were getting sprayed! Despite losing my hat (yep, I was that person) and being too lazy to go get my sunglasses out of my bag, I had a blast getting soaked and we were all laughing our tails off as salt water hit our faces and we couldn't see. My make up somehow stayed put! No point in doing your hair ladies. It's going to get either wet and/or wind blown anyways. I didn't have a waterproof case and somehow my phone didn't get damaged being in my pocket (didn't realize I was sitting in a pool of water!) but my dad bought the case and it came in handy. Pictures came out just as clear. I put sunscreen on in the parking lot but I probably would have been ok without it. Our tour set sail around 1430. I wore jean shorts and a tank top with a bikini underneath because I didn't really know what we'd be getting into. It did get a little bit cooler when I was completely soaked and then on the way back but overall, I was content with my outfit choice. You'll ditch your shoes on the dock before stepping onto the boat so it doesn't matter what you wear for footwear. Food: I know y'all were wondering when I'd mention this part! It was good, especially that brownie! Goodness me! I may have went back for a second piece. They were small, ok! But so good! They prepared our plates and had tofu for all us vegetarians. They served us salad, pasta salad, and rice along with either the tofu or the bbq'd chicken/pork with cabbage. Immediately after pulling away from the dock, they began serving us the gOOd stuff- alcohol. I had my first ever Mai Tai. I'm now a Mai Tai gal. I even got asked if I was 21. Made me day! My dad had to attest that I was in fact older (he say way older which I didn't appreciate :/ ). Don't forget to bring cash for tipping but if ya do, they have Venmo. I loved the tour however there was some confusion and misunderstanding I believe by us and a lot of people on the boat about when to take pictures. We were told to just experience it and wait for pictures when we would come back to the coast later for better picture opportunities. We thought that was after the snorkel experience and that did not happen. You experience Na Pali coastline first then snorkel then lunch and zip right back and tour is over. I put away my camera and didn't get pictures of the Jurassic park valley because literally 5 minutes before that, they said to put away your cameras and just experience it, so I did and I missed the very picture I wanted. My son loves Jurassic park and I wanted to show him that exact spot but missed it because of what they said. It was an epic day for weather, clarity of the water and the ease of the waves but definitely need to be more clear what the timeline is and when to take pictures. And if people are taking pictures, just let them without criticizing them! Overall it was a great day but bummed about missing pictures. read more

Wow. I'm not a big review person but just had to share our experience with Holo Holo Charters. Our captain was Jessica and crew was Ahren and Eric. They were just absolutely amazing. We felt safe, well-fed, informed with fun facts about Kauai -- all mixed in with humor. We've been to Kauai 3x prior to going to this trip and can't believe what we'd been missing out on. This was the first time we traveled without kids. It was nice just to relax, eat, take pictures and meet new friends. Three hours zipped by. There are multiple companies to do a sunset tour with but I choose this one because of the Kauai Revealed book and the Kauai Podcast with Ty Whitman. I'm so glad we did. Would love to come back and do the snorkel tour too. Some important things to know.....wear reef safe sunscreen (some provided if you forgot), bring a hat (make sure it's secured), sunglasses and cell phone. A lot of people had cell phone holders that attached around their neck. Wish I had this because I was so nervous about dropping my phone the whole time. I did put a waterproof case on it. In general, I personally wouldn't bring anything super pricey just in case it falls in the water. I saw a woman dancing to the music (great tunes by the way), and the wind took her hat. I was told a bathing suit was not necessary since we weren't snorkeling, BUT I highly recommend it anyway because if you go to the front of the boat you're going to get wet. Pretty much anytime you stand, you can get wet. Even though we did this tour in the winter, we lucked out with amazing weather and I wasn't cold at all during most of the trip. Once the sun went down I put on a rain coat but didn't really need it. I just wanted the pockets for my cell phone. Food. I went back for seconds. Get the kalua pork. Salad was awesome too. Lots of drinks. Enjoyed the mai tais. The Napali Coast was gorgeous. We had only hiked it prior. But the highlights were seeing dolphins, whales and even a baby goat walking along the Napali. My husband and I are very frugal people. This was not a cheap excursion. And it was worth every. single. penny. Memories for a lifetime. Side notes....I'd love to bring my kids in the future but would worry about sea sickness. My husband and I took Dramamine 30 minutes prior and did not get sick on the boat. Highly recommended taking nausea medication as a precaution. I did see some folks get sick but the crew was awesome with this. read more

We had the most amazing time!!! We went on the morning tour. The captain and crew were charming, attentive, and knowledgeable tour guides. We saw sea turtles at the snorkeling stop and spinner dolphins on the way out. On the way back in we stopped to view a pod of humpbacks that quickly approached the boat and played around and under us. It was nonstop surfacing, blowing, rolling, and breaching for 45 mins. The Captain stayed well past schedule just to give us more time with the whales. It was a once in a lifetime time experience!!! Thank you so much. I wish I didn't have to write this, but I feel like people should know what they're signing up for. We booked the "romantic sunset dinner sail" along the Napali Coast. It was more of a rollercoaster ride... We were water boarded for 3/5 hours, they ran out of Mai Tais in the first 20 minutes, they left the dinner behind, and then the manager came with his kids to give us a half-assed sorry and a 25% off. I truly felt the experience justified a full refund. Us, and many others, we're dressed in nice outfits for what we thought was a romantic sail. We all left SOAKING wet, starving, and nauseous. The options were to either sit at the front of the catamaran and actually see the views of the coast, but get DRENCHED and water boarded (Note, it didn't say anywhere in the email to bring a bathing suit, a water proof jacket, or an extra change of clothes). Or the other option, was to sit in the back, where you can't see anything and it's so bumpy, you feel like you're in the back of a chaotic Uber - and I don't easily get nauseous, I grew up boating. After giving everyone vodka sodas for 5 hours and even running through the menu with us, they tell us the dinner was left behind. You can imagine the mood on the boat at this point. We couldn't help but laugh at how nuts the experience was In conclusion, we would've just preferred to be prepared with a bathing suit, googles (lol), a rain jacket, multiple towels, and a change of clothes... Think "splash mountain" , not "romantic sail" Looking at all the other reviews, it looks like we got really unlucky, which is why I wish we could've just had a full refund or maybe the opportunity to come back another time? The coast is gorgeous and the crew is friendly and works very hard, but "Na Pali Sunset Cruise" is misleading. You will not be experiencing sunset at Na Pali but, rather, back near the harbor. You also spend 1+ hours at top speed on the boat to make it to Na Pali, which is very choppy (5 ft waves) and can be wet. It's very unpleasant. Then you spend a max of 30 mins at Na Pali, only to high tail it back to the harbor for sunset. Again, very unpleasant. You have to have a strong stomach not to get sick. The dinner provided is pretty good, but when I hear dinner and sunset cruise, I expect a certain level of elegance, not a buffet and a free for all when it comes to finding a table. In addition, there are a limited number of seats at the back of the boat, which is the best place to sit. My husband and I were not the first to get on and, therefore, were unable to secure seats back there because they were being hogged by the uncouth. This meant we had to stand the entire time and hold on for dear life. Sitting inside the cabin was too stuffy to be a good, alternate option. All in all, this cruise should not be offered unless a better solution can be identified regarding getting people to and from Na Pali without the rush. Also, Holo Holo Charters will have to figure out how to let passengers actually experience sunset at Na Pali as advertised. read more

As good as it gets and if I could give more stars, I would! Holo Holo was the best way to spend our day; we did the snorkel tour and loved every minute of it. It truly exceeded our expectations. Captain Kellie and her crew were amazing and so accommodating, and they made sure everyone was safe and having a good time. The crew waited on us for food and drinks, leaving us full and content throughout the trip! The scenery was also beautiful and I loved that Kellie slowed down for us to see some dolphins and turtles on the way to the Na Pali Coast. They even paused for us to get some pictures and go under waterfalls. The added pool floaties for snorkeling were a huge bonus, too, so we didn't need to exhaust ourselves with treading water! It made it 1000% more enjoyable. Truly an epic trip and I'm so glad we chose Holo Holo. Highly recommend (for those who don't get seasick).
