Went on a sunset tour to see the Na Pali coast. It was pretty crazy getting out there. Bumpy and so fun. We were served snacks, dinner and drinks. I would do it again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Nepali coast. Sure, it was a little rough, but we didn't lose anybody overboard! The sun, the wind, the sea spray in your face, it's all so fabulous! Two people proposed on the trip. The sunset was incredible. I almost want to make the 11 mile hike to one of those beaches. The captain and the crew were outstanding. Anything you could want, if they could give it to you, they did. They kept the bathrooms clean and they kept the drinks flowing. Nothing but good things to say about this charter company!

$350 7 hour Niihau + Napali Super Tour: I was hesitant about booking because of cost, length of time, and motion sickness. However, I took the leap of faith and it turned out to be worth it! THIS BEING SAID - I would NOT go on this tour if you are susceptible to motion sickness. It will get really rocky. I took a preventative Dramamine even though I've been on boats before. They're very organized and give these tours daily. I felt very safe. They called us to confirm the day before and sent a list of things to bring like sunscreen - don't forget to wear clothes and a rain jacket that can get FULLY soaked if you want to sit out front. Bring an inflatable waterproof phone case with a lanyard too for photos. At 6 am, you'll have a briefing by the captain and he warned us that we could cancel with a full refund. Most of us accepted the challenge. There's 1 captain and 3 friendly crew members. You can sit inside a covered section, outside at the back of the boat, or at a small section at the very front of the boat (the splash zone). At times you can also stand up but the number one rule is HOLD ON! One concern I had is that there was a small child on board but she wasn't required to wear a life jacket. This was odd to me coming from the mainland US where children are required to wear life jackets at sea. I decided to sit in front for most of the tour. The way over to Niihau was relatively smooth - like being on a speed boat - but you could stand up if holding on. It took an about an hour. They played relaxing tropical music. We didn't see wildlife on the way there but being out on the water was a joy. They served a modest breakfast with eggs, pastries, and fruit. Coffee was available. Once we got close to Niihau the captain told us the history and then we made our way to the crater to find a snorkel spot. It got more rocky on the way there. One of the crew members jumped in first to make sure the water was safe and we saw a manta ray. Once we dove in, the snorkeling was awesome! The visibility was great and we saw lots of fish. I even saw a reef shark and a monk seal. We snorkeled for an hour until 9:30 am. It gets chilly in the water so they had a warm fresh water hose to spray down before drying off. Please note: snorkeling is never a guarantee and depends on weather. If we didn't get to snorkel, I would've expected a partial refund since that contributes to the value. We crossed the channel again to head to Napali coast. This was the rockiest ride of my life. I sat in the front and it was like riding a water ride at an amusement park for about 1.5 hr. The swells were 3-5 feet coming from different directions so they'd combine to be even larger swells. Sometimes the front of the boat wasn't even touching the water. But I was having an absolute blast!! We were getting sprayed and splashed almost constantly, but it was such a rush. They told us that if we wanted to move to the back, we would need to wave our hands for them to slow the boat down. This happened a few times. After that wild ride, it started to get old and I desperately desired calm waters. We stopped to see some dolphins sleeping and that's when I made my move to get my sunscreen and rain jacket. It gets very cold in addition to being soaking wet up front. My biggest mistake was not wearing the rain jacket and not reapplying sunscreen post snorkel because the hour ride back burned us (literally) pretty bad. Then we made it to the beautiful coast of Napali, which was genuinely stunning. I was feeling a little gross from inhaling so much salt water so I enjoyed the slower cruise. However it was still pretty rocky at times. They have plenty of photo ops both at the crater and the Napali coast and will take photos for you. They also provide unlimited drinks with an ample selection of non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol post snorkel). I stuck to sparkling water and wouldn't recommend drinking alcohol on these rocky waves unless you have a strong stomach. They served lunch which was deli sandwiches, pasta salad, and a veggie tray. I'd suggest some bags of chips or dessert as well since it was a pretty modest lunch. I got to lounge in the sun on their front deck tarp when the boat was going slow but then I spent the rest of the time inside. They have 2 bathrooms and sea sickness buckets. It's also important to note that you can always see one of the islands when out at sea, which makes it feel less like you're in the middle of the ocean - if you're nervous about that. While I think the same experience could've cost less I still feel it was worth it - it's only $50 an hour for an experience you wouldn't otherwise able to have in Kauai. Thanks so much Holo Holo and to our crew for transporting us safely and making it a fun last day in Kauai!

I struggle to write this review because in all honesty, my partner and I had a wonderful time sailing along the Napali Coast and watching the beautiful sunset on the ocean. However, upon reflection, a large portion of the experience can be credited to 1) the beautiful weather we had 2) the natural scenery. Any boat could've taken us and I think we would've had an equally amazing experience. Now for the things that Holo Holo did well: 1. Safety (felt very safe on the whole ride despite 8-10ft swells) 2. The staff (they were all very nice and friendly) 3. Stopped for whale watching multiple times, which I appreciated. This broke up the choppy ride towards the coast and allowed us a break to watch so many whales dive/breech/etc. The main negatives: 1. I do feel like the captain/Holo Holo's policy should have been way more transparent to passengers on what "rough ocean conditions" actually mean. I understand that they give the option to everyone after the "captain briefing" to cancel for a full refund or reschedule. However, they need to provide a better idea to passengers on what "8-10ft swells" can actually do to someone. The captain never said, for example, "if you are prone to motion sickness of any kind, I highly recommend you take the appropriate medication or reconsider taking the tour because it will be rough and you may be miserable the whole ride/be throwing up." You can't tell the whole group "we expect 8-10 foot swells...if that doesn't sound good to you, you can cancel/reschedule..."--that's lying by omission in my opinion. What ended up happening was the 8-10 foot swells made 1/3 of our boat miserable and nauseous for 90% of the 4 hour ride. 5 people out of ~30 threw up aggressively multiple times. It was a horrible sight to watch. I'm not speaking on behalf of myself and my partner since we're both adventurous and do not get motion sickness. HOWEVER, it is NOT a positive experience to watch people suffering all around you for the entire boat ride. We chose to look the other way (literally and figuratively) multiple times and felt bad about it. There were some people who were so sick that they never even left the cabin area to look outside. I felt so bad for them. 2. The food. For $500 for two, I'd say expect better food. It was the most bland and unpalatable food I've had in a long time. Chicken teriyaki was as tough as rubber and drowning in a watery bed of cabbage. Rice was overcooked and dry. Only the leafy green salad was palatable. Brownie dessert was dry and overly sweet. I probably had a bite and tossed it. The pre-dinner snacks were better than the actual dinner in my opinion. Further, it would've been nice for the captain to slow the boat down for 10-20 mins for people to get food and eat. Going full throttle while people are either lining up, trying to fill their plates, running to throw up, or trying to find a decent seat does not make for a peaceful dining experience. I got my food and half of it flew off into the ocean before I could eat it due to the wind/choppiness of the water. 3. The time spent at the Napali Coast was too short. We probably spent 10-15 minutes actually paused/slow cruising around the cliffs. I didn't think that was enough time to take everything in and for everyone to get pictures. Maybe it was due to the conditions for today, but it did feel short. All things considered, my boyfriend and I personally had a 9/10 experience. However, I don't think half of our boat could say the same. Next time, I'd probably book with a cheaper company since I did not feel like the high price tag justified the basic positives that occurred on our tour.

Great experience for the price! We went on an adventure with them yesterday, and it was absolutely amazing. The water in the gulf was calm, and we were lucky enough to see several pods of dolphins -- a pretty rare sight. Jess was a fantastic captain, guiding us through the trip with stories and insights almost the entire way. During snorkeling in the crater, we even spotted two reef sharks and some monk seals underwater.

We went winter time for the sunset cruise. If you decide to go then, BE READY! The water was rough, and the waves were big. Some people got sick, but it was a fun ride. The guides were correct when warning us of things that would make us seasick. The water was calmer near the coast, so we got some good pictures. The sunset was beautiful!

The views were amazing, however it was only 1 spot of snorkeling for appx 1 hr for a 7 hour day. Was able to see rare turtle, monk seals and a Manta Ray. Good food, friendly staff, only 1 bathroom for 50 passengers

This is an excellent boat cruise, but unless you have sea legs, I don't recommend it. The tour itself is over five hours long and the waves can be incredibly choppy. Multiple people vomited on our boat. But, if the sea is for you and you don't get seasick, this is an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking tour of the coast. The captain Mike was a really nice guy and drove the boat safely. He went over all the safety recommendations before we left and even gave people an opportunity to get a full refund - because it was so choppy - and not come on the tour. We of course still went - because we love boats. The drinks were plentiful, and we enjoyed the service from all of the crew members. They were a little bit too chatty, and I recommend just moving to a place where you cannot listen if you don't like to talk to anyone while cruising. The catamaran has trampolines you can lay on, but you will get wet. The boat does allow young children and teenagers, so just be aware if you were looking for a romantic catamaran ride this is not it. I would absolutely do this tour again. You guys have done a great job and the food was delicious. The only recommendation I would have is that when people throw up that you clean the railings immediately- because each of those people who vomited got puke all over the railings and their hands and then touched everything and that was gross. Not your fault, people are just disgusting.

Had a wonderful outing doing Holo Holo's super tour! As a tourist, this was the perfect tourist activity. Holo Holo took me to places I couldn't access on my own. The staff was very friendly/helpful, the boat had all the conveniences needed, and the entire process was very easy from booking to parking. The scenery was epic, loved getting to go in the water. There is potential for seasickness because you're truly out in the ocean but I felt safe the entire voyage as Holo Holo was a very professional operation. No regrets, would 100% do it again.

What an amazing experience! Really words and pictures will never do any justice. This is something you will just have to experience in person. The staff made us all feel like family and showed us a great time. Put it on your bucket list!

My fiancé and I did a Snorkel Cruise and it was one of our favorite things we did on our trip. It ended up being a beautiful day - warm and sunny! We loved snorkeling, but it was kind of a bummer that we did it first thing in the morning. I expected to snorkel maybe halfway through the tour. I got cold and tired because we hadn't eaten yet. It was great that they provided pool noodles to help float while snorkeling. We got to see spinner dolphins, whales AND a turtle! The views were stunning and unforgettable. The crew members were very nice and helpful. They offered interesting commentary on the Napali Coast along the way. At one point, my hat blew right off my head and Captain Kelly did not hesitate to stop and turn around to retrieve it! I would definitely do this again if we ever go back to Kauai! read more

My husband and I did the Sunset Napali Coast cruise and all I can say is WOW! This cruise took us to what might be the prettiest place I have ever been to. The views of the Napali Coast from the water are like nothing else and is a definite must see while on Kauai. Captain Cole and the crew (Jay and Gabe) were all amazing! Gabe taught us about Ni'ihau and its history off the top of his head. We saw ~30 or more humpback whales along the way along with dolphins and a few Albatrosses that flew by, and Jay had an informational pamphlet about orcas and humpbacks. Captain Cole taught us the history of many sights along the coast. The captain and crew made us all feel very safe and gave lots of instruction before boarding. While this is a dinner/sunset cruise, this is not a calm vessel that will just smoothly coast along the water. The catamaran goes very quickly and there is quite a bit of movement so you do have to constantly hold on to something if you plan to walk around. There are bathrooms onboard. As they mention in the disclaimers you will get wet (especially if you are in the front of the boat). We wore rain jackets which worked perfect and allowed us to sit up front and get some of the best views. I would also advise bringing a towel if you plan to sit up front. The dinner was delicious, but it is a bit tricky to eat on the boat given how much movement there is. Definitely doable, but if you are expecting a calm sit down dinner, this is not the cruise for you. If you are prone to motion sickness definitely take something beforehand! I am very prone to motion sickness, but took dramamine beforehand and was fine the whole trip. The cruise was also bottomless drinks which was amazing and we did a champagne toast at sunset. The whole trip took about 4 hours and we enjoyed every minute of it! It was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to get the best views of the NaPali Coast! read more

If you read through the reviews... I am one of the victims of horrible sea sickness. It was absolutely horrible. But... That's not Holo Holo's fault. I chose to go and got very sick. The trip is amazing. The views are majestic. The wildlife is incredible. The staff on the boat is better than any airline or restaurant. Thanks to Glenn, Sara, Heather, and Kalama... you guys are the best. That said, I won't be going on a boat in the ocean ever again. :) read more

The Crew was very helpful and friendly, they offered information as we passed areas. However our tour was rough due to the choppy ocean water, thinking back I'm surprised we went out in such bad conditions. It was so bad that our butts came off the seat a handful of times. About 75% of the trip was in rougher waters. It was so choppy 6 people that we knew of became sick while we were out. Many people couldn't eat as the motion was unstable. Some attempted and were successful as others were not, we did not eat. The crew offered to help anyone to their seat with their food. With all that said, if the weather was better I think we would have all enjoyed the trip better. Holo Holo Charters have a great boat and helpful/informative crew. Just be cautious of the ocean's conditions, if they are reporting larger swells I would suggest rescheduling or canceling because they along with all other companies will take you out in the bad weather. We took our trip in mid November, maybe other months the water would be calmer. read more

I am from Kauai and it was my first time going on a tour of the Na Pali. The ride on the boat was smooth and could see a lot of the beach area like Kekaha and Polihale. I enjoyed watching my family snorkel at Olokele bay/beach as there were lots of reef fish to see (even on the boat). The captain directed all the snorkelers to the honu (green sea turtles) that they found swimming around the area. Oh yeah, and we saw dolphins swimming along side the boat as we cruised to the Na Pali coast!! Once we got to the beginning of the Na Pali coast the captain (Kelly) directed all of us to see the classic coast. It was majestic to me and very picturesque. This is one tour I recommend all locals do to appreciate the Na Pali! The crew we had were awesome (captain Kelly, Gabe and Heather)!! They were very attentive to everyone! The continental breakfast and lunch was a welcome treat!! This tour was well worth the 5 hours! read more

We have done this charter to Na Pali at least 5 times. We always go with Holo Holo and have never had a single complaint about our experience. The staff from the front desk at check in to the captain and assistants on the boat are always friendly, funny and helpful. We do this excursion every time we have guests in town and it never disappoints. Highly recommend!! read more

Signed up for the 7-hour Super Tour on their largest catamaran. Winds too high, water too rough on Saturday. Rebooked for Sunday, which turned out to have less rough seas. Still a little windy and sprinkling rain though. Captain Christian did a wonderful job of taking us out along the coastline toward calmer waters and drier skies. The catamaran ride was so fun and it was so exciting to see the wildlife! The captain gave interesting narration of the history and current situation of the Napali coast. The two mates, Johnnie and Jay, were very attentive to passenger needs and introduced themselves to each passenger. The food was quite good; they use a very good catering service. Check out the coconut cookies! And we discovered the Casa Azul lime margarita canned beverage they carried, which is really, really good! The conditions were not favorable to go out to the crater/wildlife sanctuary, but Captain Christian moored at a place near the coast where we were able to snorkel. We saw several beautiful fish and a couple of sea turtles grazing on the sea vegetation below. My husband and I both used the corrected vision snorkel masks they had on hand, which greatly enhanced our snorkel experience! From the boat we saw a school of spinner dolphins and some Pacific humpback whales with babies which crested and dove quite near our catamaran. We even glimpsed from afar a couple of them launching into the air and splashing back down! Overall, what we thought was going to be a questionable experience for the money, turned out to be a wonderful experience! So even if you think the weather won't cooperate and the ocean conditions aren't right, trust the captain and the fast-changing shoreline weather and you will have a great experience! (We are tourists from Ohio, so not good judges of boating conditions around the islands.) This is a class act, well-run outfit and we loved the Super Tour! read more

We took the sunset dinner cruise by Holo Holo and it was a wonderful experience - worth every penny! The views of the Napali coast were amazing. The crew was hands-on and kept tabs on everyone onboard. The captain of the ship communicated well and informed us ahead of time incase of approaching rough waters. I recommend having motion sickness tablets before boarding the boat incase you are prone to being seasick. read more

Great operation. Thorough, fun, safe, knowledgeable. Took the Na Pali coast cruise. The boat crew was so fun - lively, funny, engaging. They took care of everyone with a lot of personal attention. I really appreciated how they clearly cared that everyone was enjoying themselves. They were also very thorough about safety, clear on the rules but not at all heavy handed. Sea travel can be rough - we hit some real chop on the way back. They created a vibe of being competent and in control so people could relax. Those of us who wanted adventure also got to have it, staning on thr bow and riding the waves. Tours are a dice roll, all depending on the mix of people and guides. This crew knew how to keep people engaged, in the experience, feeling well led. Na Pali coast was beautiful. The soaring mountians and the colors of the water were magic. I went in the morning, traveling back in the afternoon, the colors of the mountains lit up, so I'd recommend the afternoon tour. Snorkeling was fun, lots of good fish and a sea turtle. read more

We went on this tour in May 2025. We were able to see dolphins and seals on our way to Ni'hau. When we arrived there we snorkeled and saw some smaller fish and reefs, but nothing too exciting. The boat does get a bit fast, so definitely take Dramamine or whatever motion sickness med that works for you before doing this tour if you're not a "boat person". There were about 35 people and there was at least one that we saw that lost their breakfast. It's a decent sized boat, but it can get crowded in certain areas when it's time to take pictures of specific landmarks. Lunch was just OK and they serve local beers which weren't bad. We enjoyed this for the most part, but probably wouldn't do it again. The crew was amazing and they made things interesting while we were in transit, especially Captain Jess. read more

Such a great time! Highly recommend for families (teens +), girls getaway, couples, whoever! I don't recommend this for kids (if that's even allowed with this charter company) because it does get choppy and I don't think they'd even have a good time. Additionally, the railings aren't child-friendly. We supposedly went on a calm day and the waves were quite big (Gabe said about a foot) but they felt bigger and once we picked up speed, man oh man, we were getting sprayed! Despite losing my hat (yep, I was that person) and being too lazy to go get my sunglasses out of my bag, I had a blast getting soaked and we were all laughing our tails off as salt water hit our faces and we couldn't see. My make up somehow stayed put! No point in doing your hair ladies. It's going to get either wet and/or wind blown anyways. I didn't have a waterproof case and somehow my phone didn't get damaged being in my pocket (didn't realize I was sitting in a pool of water!) but my dad bought the case and it came in handy. Pictures came out just as clear. I put sunscreen on in the parking lot but I probably would have been ok without it. Our tour set sail around 1430. I wore jean shorts and a tank top with a bikini underneath because I didn't really know what we'd be getting into. It did get a little bit cooler when I was completely soaked and then on the way back but overall, I was content with my outfit choice. You'll ditch your shoes on the dock before stepping onto the boat so it doesn't matter what you wear for footwear. Food: I know y'all were wondering when I'd mention this part! It was good, especially that brownie! Goodness me! I may have went back for a second piece. They were small, ok! But so good! They prepared our plates and had tofu for all us vegetarians. They served us salad, pasta salad, and rice along with either the tofu or the bbq'd chicken/pork with cabbage. Immediately after pulling away from the dock, they began serving us the gOOd stuff- alcohol. I had my first ever Mai Tai. I'm now a Mai Tai gal. I even got asked if I was 21. Made me day! My dad had to attest that I was in fact older (he say way older which I didn't appreciate :/ ). Don't forget to bring cash for tipping but if ya do, they have Venmo. It's a beautiful morning in Kauai, and I'm off on a catamaran to sail up the Na Pali coast and snorkel along the way. I'm on a gorgeous 50' catamaran named Leila. It's fancy with breakfast and lunch onboard. The Holo Holo Charters is easy to find at Port Allen, and the office people are quite nice. They provide everything, so I just needed me. Yessssss! Yessssss! Yessssss, screaming out loud! What a wonderful outing and spectacular scenery. Captain Mike, Zoe, and Kiley were amazing - professional, friendly, and attentive! Beautiful trip but they should have canceled due to the weather. 5 people threw up on our boat (not my family). Quite a few of us felt sick! We didn't get to the island. Snorkeling at an alternate location wasn't great. That's on the captain. Staff are awesome and the napali coast is magnificent. We saw a ton of dolphin and a couple of whales. I loved the tour however there was some confusion and misunderstanding I believe by us and a lot of people on the boat about when to take pictures. We were told to just experience it and wait for pictures when we would come back to the coast later for better picture opportunities. We thought that was after the snorkel experience and that did not happen. You experience Na Pali coastline first then snorkel then lunch and zip right back and tour is over. I put away my camera and didn't get pictures of the Jurassic park valley because literally 5 minutes before that, they said to put away your cameras and just experience it, so I did and I missed the very picture I wanted. My son loves Jurassic park and I wanted to show him that exact spot but missed it because of what they said. It was an epic day for weather, clarity of the water and the ease of the waves but definitely need to be more clear what the timeline is and when to take pictures. And if people are taking pictures, just let them without criticizing them! Overall it was a great day but bummed about missing pictures. read more

The captain and crew were great and refreshments were bountiful. The boat was a catamaran which makes sailing easier for those who may get seasick. The staff was very helpful for those who did get seasick. Note, take meds before getting on the ocean. The boat tour was fun, snorkeling would have been better if nature did her part. My husband and I had an amazing time on the sunset dinner cruise. Most importantly, we felt completely safe the entire time. There was a nice assortment of food and drink and the service was impeccable. The coastline is stunning -- well worth seeing! We did a sunset cruise with HoloHolo March 19th. Absolutely first rate the whole trip. Captain Glenn and his crew of Lucy an Aryn made the trip so enjoyable. About 4 hours up and back the Napali coastline was filled with fun, laughs, food and drinks. Plus Captain Glenn's music play list matched the adventure's progress and made the afternoon enjoyable. Wow. I'm not a big review person but just had to share our experience with Holo Holo Charters. Our captain was Jessica and crew was Ahren and Eric. They were just absolutely amazing. We felt safe, well-fed, informed with fun facts about Kauai -- all mixed in with humor. We've been to Kauai 3x prior to going to this trip and can't believe what we'd been missing out on. This was the first time we traveled without kids. It was nice just to relax, eat, take pictures and meet new friends. Three hours zipped by. There are multiple companies to do a sunset tour with but I choose this one because of the Kauai Revealed book and the Kauai Podcast with Ty Whitman. I'm so glad we did. Would love to come back and do the snorkel tour too. Some important things to know.....wear reef safe sunscreen (some provided if you forgot), bring a hat (make sure it's secured), sunglasses and cell phone. A lot of people had cell phone holders that attached around their neck. Wish I had this because I was so nervous about dropping my phone the whole time. I did put a waterproof case on it. In general, I personally wouldn't bring anything super pricey just in case it falls in the water. I saw a woman dancing to the music (great tunes by the way), and the wind took her hat. I was told a bathing suit was not necessary since we weren't snorkeling, BUT I highly recommend it anyway because if you go to the front of the boat you're going to get wet. Pretty much anytime you stand, you can get wet. Even though we did this tour in the winter, we lucked out with amazing weather and I wasn't cold at all during most of the trip. Once the sun went down I put on a rain coat but didn't really need it. I just wanted the pockets for my cell phone. Food. I went back for seconds. Get the kalua pork. Salad was awesome too. Lots of drinks. Enjoyed the mai tais. The Napali Coast was gorgeous. We had only hiked it prior. But the highlights were seeing dolphins, whales and even a baby goat walking along the Napali. My husband and I are very frugal people. This was not a cheap excursion. And it was worth every. single. penny. Memories for a lifetime. Side notes....I'd love to bring my kids in the future but would worry about sea sickness. My husband and I took Dramamine 30 minutes prior and did not get sick on the boat. Highly recommended taking nausea medication as a precaution. I did see some folks get sick but the crew was awesome with this. read more

As good as it gets and if I could give more stars, I would! Holo Holo was the best way to spend our day; we did the snorkel tour and loved every minute of it. It truly exceeded our expectations. Captain Kellie and her crew were amazing and so accommodating, and they made sure everyone was safe and having a good time. The crew waited on us for food and drinks, leaving us full and content throughout the trip! The scenery was also beautiful and I loved that Kellie slowed down for us to see some dolphins and turtles on the way to the Na Pali Coast. They even paused for us to get some pictures and go under waterfalls. The added pool floaties for snorkeling were a huge bonus, too, so we didn't need to exhaust ourselves with treading water! It made it 1000% more enjoyable. Truly an epic trip and I'm so glad we chose Holo Holo. Highly recommend (for those who don't get seasick). The coast is gorgeous and the crew is friendly and works very hard, but "Na Pali Sunset Cruise" is misleading. You will not be experiencing sunset at Na Pali but, rather, back near the harbor. You also spend 1+ hours at top speed on the boat to make it to Na Pali, which is very choppy (5 ft waves) and can be wet. It's very unpleasant. Then you spend a max of 30 mins at Na Pali, only to high tail it back to the harbor for sunset. Again, very unpleasant. You have to have a strong stomach not to get sick. The dinner provided is pretty good, but when I hear dinner and sunset cruise, I expect a certain level of elegance, not a buffet and a free for all when it comes to finding a table. In addition, there are a limited number of seats at the back of the boat, which is the best place to sit. My husband and I were not the first to get on and, therefore, were unable to secure seats back there because they were being hogged by the uncouth. This meant we had to stand the entire time and hold on for dear life. Sitting inside the cabin was too stuffy to be a good, alternate option. All in all, this cruise should not be offered unless a better solution can be identified regarding getting people to and from Na Pali without the rush. Also, Holo Holo Charters will have to figure out how to let passengers actually experience sunset at Na Pali as advertised. read more

History

Established in 1997.

In 1988, Kevin sailed from the West Coast to Hawaii, soon after he established "Multis by Millett", a boat-building business on Kauai. Millett is recognized as one of Hawaii's premier multi-hull designer-builders. By 1997, Kevin saw the opportunity to design and build his own boat. With this extraordinary vessel, Holo Holo Charters Inc. was established. "HoloHolo" is a state-of-the-art, 65-foot powered catamaran designed specifically for Kauai's ocean conditions with safety, comfort, and efficiency in mind. "Leila" is a beautiful, 50-foot powered sailing catamaran; her hull design and 60-foot mast increase performance for fast trade-wind sailing. "Adventurer II & III" are the newest additions to our fleet. These identical 40-foot, hard-bottom, fiberglass Rigid Hull Inflatables (RHIBs) are fast and comfortable, with stadium-style cushioned seating, a retractable shade canopy, and an enclosed marine head.

Meet the Business Owner: Kevin M.

Understanding the demand for truly world class touring vessels on Kauai, Kevin Millett created Holo Holo Charters Inc. I believe that children 5 and older are allowed. The waters are rough and the solo little boy on our Sunset Cruise got sick. I would make childcare arrangements for the little if you can! Best of luck and have fun!

From meeting everyone at the port to snorkeling and feasting on unlimited food and drinks, it was such a fun day out. The waters were choppy, but the captain knew exactly what he was doing to keep us safe and honestly, it turned into a thrilling, adventurous ride there, with calm seas on the way back to soak in the views. The staff was absolutely amazing. They brought food and drinks right to us. The mai tais and wine were a treat. The staff even cleaned the restroom for us towards the later half of the ride when it's probably a little funky in there. Surprisingly, I did not get seasick, and neither did any of my girlfriends. Worth every single penny. A must-do in Kauai!

Then, a buffet of deli options are put out to build your own sandwich, along with a salad, cake, and an assortment of beverages. On the way back in, you're taught to make flower leis and twisted Ti leaf ones too! It was awesome. Plus, Captain's family can be traced back to the 1600's and truly loves Kaua'i.

After taking it myself now, I can see why! We met Captain Greg Baptiste and copilot Caleb at Kiki'aola Small Boat Harbor at 8:45 and ended about 2:45. We were supposed to end at 2:30 but got delayed by kayakers who caused boat traffic. A 6th generation Kaua'i kama'aina, Captain Greg was extremely experienced, confident, and relaxed so we felt very safe with him at the helm, even when the boat was slapping the waters and we felt like we were on a mechanical bull ride. Luckily I didn't get seasick, so it felt a like a real life Disney ride to me. However, I don't recommend this for those who get queasy. His first mate, Caleb, took turns with him at the wheel and dove in to achor us. Throughout the tour Greg educated us with fascinating facts and tales about the geography, history, and lore of the breathtaking beautiful Na Pali Coast. One of the lessons from the legend of Na Keiki a ono iwi that resonated with me was 1.Listen to your elders 2. Do not Steal 3. You are responsible for your children's actions. (Teachers, gotta love this one!!) Highlights were the open ceiling cave and iconic "Cathedral " cliffs. We stopped for about an hour or so of beautiful clear snorkeling where we got to see turtles in addition to some beautiful and large fish. They use excellent Mantis brand snorkeling gear which I really liked and will fit you for fins. After that we were very ready for lunch! They normally cater sandwiches but something happened so we assembled our own with fixings from Costco which tasted extra good at sea! The only suggestion I would have for this business is to do a better job of briefing folks about safety and how to treat the reef. Some kids in our group were sitting and stepping on the coral. Mahalo nui Capt. Greg and Crew for an incredible day trip!! Will definitely recommend this to everyone I know!

DRAMAMINE, y'all…read more You're choosing to do the Na'Pali coast from the North Shore, which means smaller boats, and choppier waves. I took one Dramamine, the night before. Then another, an hour before our departure. AND THE BOAT RIDE WAS GREAT. I was all smiles and adventure and breathing -in the ocean air and wind! Unlike, a few folks, who were NOT doing so well. (One or two barfed over the side, but thankfully I didn't notice. Know how your body handles boats and waves. Don't do tours like this, without proper prep. It will NOT be fun if you underestimate it.) Check-In staff was super friendly, and personal. They remembered me from my original email. Sweet. Parking was easy. Shuttles team was super friendly. The strangers we rode with, all turned out to be cool. 2 boats go out (mini-catamarans, with cover from the sun). They expertly traverse the waves, and cliffs, and the caves, giving you some amazing first-hand visuals and photos. But yeah, that boat will be a rockin', during those up-close cave moments. Spoiler: You probably won't see whales, unless you're there before May. But we DID see a cute pod of Dolphins, who cozy'd up to our boat for a while. Our boat had Casey and Spencer. They were wise beyond their years, in all things Kauai. Funny and friendly. Spencer navigated the heck out of those waves, while Casey handled the nauseous passengers with MOTHERLY CARE. Spencer was 50/50 on allowing us to snorkel, based on conditions and a previous scare, a few weeks prior. But he ultimately made the call to GET IN THE WATER. He wisely kept us on a leash (not literally), whistling at swimmers when they got too close to a reef (with waves that could wash you onto the reef). It was fun and chill. Saw a HUGE, MASSIVE KING DADDY SEA TURTLE. He did not enjoy us as much as we enjoyed him and he bounced. Followed by a JR. Turtle, who stuck around a bit longer. Tons of fish. Spencer & Casey gave us good food and hike recommendations, and everyone treated us like friends / family. Highly recommend this team if you're going out. And you already know I highly recommend some Dramamine.

We got to sit at the bow of the boat on the way back. They gave us snorkeling gear and allowed us to go out in the water and explore. We saw some amazing sea life and coral reefs. They gave us lunch, snacks and soda after. The ride there and back was also very smooth. I would highly recommend booking a tour with them!

The views of the Napali coast are breathtaking. We went on the morning ride and in hindsight, the afternoon would have had better lighting to view the Kalalau Valley, as we had the sun coming up behind the mountains once we got there. Still got some amazing shots of the cliffs. The sea was too rough to enter the cave completely but Nono still got us in enough to experience the thrill in a safe manner. We saw spinner dolphins and some bottle nose dolphins doing flips and jumping out of the water. The snorkeling was great-we even swam with a sea turtle. The crew was helpful, making sure everyone was okay with snacks and drinks. It was an adventurous day in the water!!

There was a lot equipment and all very well taken care of and clean. The staff was most helpful and kind as well as making sure the gym was respectful and welcoming place for all, had to sign papers to our responsibility for maintaining that expectations. Couldn't agree more with Guest G., don't judge a book by the cover, exterior left little to be desired but the actual facility, top notch!!!

Took the 7-hour Na Pali-to-Niihau trip. Waters were extremely calm, which made for an even better opportunity to explore around Northeast coast of Niihau. Unless you are invited by the owners of Niihau and the community there, you'll never step foot on the "Forbidden Island". This is probably your best opportunity to see it up close and get great snorkeling in. The Na Pali is always beautiful, and this time was no different. The cruise up the coast went quick because the weather and crew were very pleasant and you never felt like time was dragging, always spectacular views of the Na Pali and the beaches and valleys. Saw plenty of Spinner Dolphins while traveling that coastline. Many turtles were popping up. June is not a time to see whales; which is okay, cuz otherwise, you may see whales, but the waters can be rough, and weather unseemly, as whales are around in winter waters, not summer time. The trip across the channel was about an hour. We anchored and snorkeled at Lehua Rock, a very cool crater off the Niihau coast. Fantastic water, refreshing, tons of brightly colored fish cool coral; a few turtles floating around, and even a Monk seal swimming with us. The seal scared the crap outta me at first, I thought the dang thing was "something else" at first. It swam only 10 feet away and never seemed bothered by our presence, it just swam back and forth under us. We ended with another coastal tour of Niihau after lunch; after lunch was also BEER! All in all, a very nice and memorable tour. A breakfast, a coastal tour, a channel crossing, snorkeling, a lunch, free beer, another coastal tour, another channel crossing. The crew (Captain Ian, Jason, JC, and Abraham) did very well. It was like hanging out with your bruddahs and couzins from Kauai. They helped make the time enjoyable and it was hard to believe it took 7 hours total. The crew felt like they were part of the tourist group just chilling with us, yet also making sure I had a drink in my hand. Very good trip overall and recommended. read more

We had an unforgettable experience on the Na Pali Coast sunset dinner cruise -- truly one of the most breathtaking sights we've ever seen. The Na Pali Coast is beyond words. At times it genuinely felt like we were inside a painting -- dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear skies, and ocean views that didn't feel real. We were also lucky enough to spot mother whales and their babies, which made the experience even more special. The sunset was absolutely stunning -- one of those moments you just pause and take in. I'll be honest -- I personally got very seasick and unfortunately spent a good portion of the ride not feeling well. That said, I don't typically get sick on larger cruises, so this is something to consider if you're sensitive to motion on smaller boats. What truly stood out, though, was the incredible crew. Captain Tom, with 39 years of experience, made us feel completely safe and in good hands the entire time. You can tell he's deeply knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his guests. Jazmin and Cristina were absolutely wonderful -- so warm, attentive, and full of positive energy. They clearly love what they do, and it shows in how they take care of everyone on board. Their kindness and professionalism made a huge difference, especially when I wasn't feeling well. As for the food and drinks -- they were not the highlight of the experience, and if that's your main expectation, you may be disappointed. However, if your goal is to see one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, feel safe, and be taken care of by an amazing crew, this is absolutely the right choice. Unbelievable!!!!!!!! I've been all over the world, yet I rarely take the time to write reviews for paid adventures. However, after spending a day with CPT Ian, Austin, Bronson, and Aaron on the Super Tour, I'm enthusiastic about giving this company and its crew, the credit they deserve. First off, the vessel. State of the art Catamaran with plenty of comfortable spots to sit and numerous safety measures to lessen any paranoia. The crew was incredibly professional, courteous, informative, and would bend over backwards to ensure that every single person was having a wonderful day on the vessel. Oh the wildlife! Coming out of the port, we were LITERALLY led by a bottlenose dolphin. It was swimming 3 feet in front of the boat! The first thing I thought was, surely they paid this dolphin to do this......but then I remembered that dolphins would have no way of spending the money. We also encountered a huge pod of spinner dolphins.....again, swimming directly next to the boat, and spinning in the air in from of us. But the most amazing experience of the day was watching hump back whales breaching out of the water. CPT Ian was very strategic in getting us in the right position to be able to view this once in a lifetime opportunity, but at the same time being respectful to the mother and her calf. Snorkling: We were taken to by far the best snorkeling spot I've ever experienced. The reef is at a shelf that drops straight down 150feet. This enables you to experience large wildlife. We had a 4ft reef shark swim directly under us, as well as a monk seal. In all, I highly recommend this charter to anyone. The scenery, wildlife, and crew make it a excellent value. You won't regret it!!! read more

Took the Na Pali Sunset Dinner Tour. The Na Pali coast is amazing, so just about any tour from the water would be worth doing. This trip was not the best. There were several problems. The boat doesn't have sufficient outdoor seating for everyone (unless you want to sit on the bow and get soaked). So, some people were forced to be in the cabin most of the time. The cabin gets almost no air movement, and it was very hot. They also were playing music on the loud speakers most of the time. Combined with the sound of the engines it make it nearly impossible to have a conversation with anyone next to you without shouting. It was an assault on the senses. The engine noise also pretty much drowned out what the captain was saying over the loud speakers. We could only hear every other word. The dinner was bad. The dishes that were supposed to be hot were barely at room temperature. We went out to dinner afterward to get something good. The 2-man crew were working really hard, but it seemed like there was too much to do for just 2 men. I never saw them wash their hands between handling trash and pouring new drinks. Lastly, the boat gets back to the harbor at sunset, so you only get a short time to look at the sunset itself (which was beautiful, but the sun was still above the horizon when we docked). We've been on sunset cruises in Maui and the Big Island and they were much better ... probably because the scenery wasn't nearly as spectacular and they had to work harder to make the cruises worthwhile. To end on a positive note, when we slowed down along the Na Pali coast on the return trip, it was a very nice and memorable experience. That's why I gave this tour a 3-star review. read more

I am so happy with our amazing day aboard Holoholo--the fast, seaworthy, dual-engine-powered catamaran with Captain Glenn at the helm! The boat has exterior decks, seating, and open air indoor seating to get out of the elements (if needed). There are also 2 restrooms. We chose the Ni'ihau + Nā Pali super tour and it was a day we won't forget! The crew was amazing...vibes were immaculate! The Yacht Rock playlist was perfect! Daniel, Sara, and Jon made an outstanding crew! They were super friendly, attentive, and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and more. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, pastries, fruit, and good coffee. Lunch included make-your-own deli sandwiches, salad, and a large veggie tray with amazing hummus. Seeing the Nā Pali coast from this view was so incredible! Snorkeling at Ni'ihau was in the clearest water I have ever seen. We saw Hawaiian monk seals and many types of fish native only to Hawaii. We were anchored at the edge of a 200 foot "seawall" and visibility to at least 100 feet was crazy! If you love breathtaking scenery, boating with a crew that treats you like family, and amazing underwater views, then this is the trip you should book! read more

While we were in Kauai, we entertained several guest and ended up going on three Holo Holo sunset cruises. Twice with Captain Rich and once with Captain Drew. The first cruise with Captain Rich had calm seas and we stopped countless times to see whales and some with their calves. The second cruise was with Captain Rich and the water was much rougher but we still say several whales and the Napali coast up to the Kalalau Valley. The last cruise was with Captain Rich again with mates Jake and Emily. Water was very rough but we were able to get to the Kalalau Valley again and saw some whales. Each cruise had the crew providing us with phenomenal service. Going up to each guest to ask if they would like a drink and/or food. They took great care of my wife and a friend that got a little seasick on two different cruises. We really cannot say enough about the great cruises we had. My wife and I were given free T shirts twice because we were repeat customers. We were fortunate to see three uniquely beautiful sunsets and plenty of whales, turtles and on one cruise, dolphins. We highly recommend Holo Holo charters for the sunset cruise while you are in Kauai. You will not be disappointed. read more

Last night my husband and I went on the sunset cruise of the Na Pali Coast. It was a 3.5 hr tour and it was a highlight of our trip! The captain was very knowledgeable and had 30 yrs of experience under his belt (which was reassuring). The crew was also amazing. They took great care of everyone, making sure everyone got something to eat and drink, helping us navigate around the boat while going over large waves, and assisting anyone who might have felt a little sea sick. The tour was gorgeous too! We started in calm water and saw so many whales and dolphins! Once we got closer to the Na Pali Coast the waters were very rough. Huge waves. BUT the captain and crew did really well at communicating with everyone and got us close to the gorgeous Coast and allowed us to take photos too! The Na Pali Coast was just breathtaking! I've never seen anything like it! On our way back we got to watch the sun set and it was just beautiful! If you're hesitant about spending the money for this tour, don't be! Do not miss taking Holo Holo charters up the Napali coast if you go to Kauai. We went on "Leila" the catamaran for a 5 hour cruise and loved it so much that we signed up for the 7 hour trip to Niihau a couple of days later. Both trips go along the Napali coast, but the 7 hour trip also goes across to the "Forbidden Island" of Niihau. The crew was great - friendly, calm, informative, and fun. The captains were responsible and safe. They did not have too many people on the boat - plenty of room to move around. They slowed down when they saw wildlife and tried to give us opportunities to look and take photographs. The sights were SPECTACULAR! We saw dolphins, humpback whales, turtles, flying fish, birds, seals, and lots of tropical fish. If you have the time and snorkeling is a big draw, and don't mind getting up early (meet at 6 am), do the 7-hour tour over to Niihau. The snorkeling out there is 10 times better than anywhere else on Kauia. read more

Our sunset cruise with Holo Holo Charters was absolutely phenomenal! Even though it was a rough season due to the time of year, the staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an amazing time. Their skill in managing the ship through choppy waters was truly impressive, and they took the time to personally connect with each person and group on board, making the experience feel so welcoming and personalized. The boat ride itself was so much fun--especially when they raised the sails! It added such an exciting touch, and we were even treated to the sight of a stunning rainbow. The food was fantastic, with delicious offerings that perfectly complemented the whole evening. From start to finish, this was an unforgettable experience. We had a wonderful trip, did the Na Pali sunset tour. The Na Pali coast is completely worth the cost to go there. We went in winter so the water was a little rough but it was a clear day and the colors and shadows cast by the afternoon sun were stunning. Our captain (Drew) was very knowledgeable and really added to the experience by discussing where and how the ancient Hawaiians lived. The food was decent, started with cheese/meet and crackers, dinner was a taco bar (fish and pulled pork) and they were very generous with the beer/wine/mai tais. It does take some strength to hold on when you're moving fast in the waves, we're healthy seniors and did fine. They say no kids under 5 (i think it was) and I think that's a good policy, I wouldn't have wanted my kids along when they were young since you really do have to hold on sometimes. Been to Kauai many times and taken lots of snorkeling & ocean cruises. I must say the NaPali Sail & Snorkel Cruise with Holo Holo Charters is my new favorite. Captain Drew and crew members Kevin and Jessie were a joy. They obviously love their jobs and it shows. Safety of guests is paramount and we were given a good briefing prior to sailing and watched carefully while snorkeling. While on board the captain and crew were a wealth of interesting information and stories about the islands, the marine life, the topography, the human history, and folk lore. We were followed by a couple groups of dolphins for awhile - so fun. Light breakfast; nice lunch; cocktails after snorkeling. Not the cheapest snorkel tour on Kauai, but well worth the cost. Absolutely breathtaking views of the NaPali Coast. A really fun way to spend one of your days on Kauai! read more

I cannot get back fast enough. It started with an adventurous ride out, all hoping to see some dolphins but it wasn't in the cards. Covered in salt from the splashing ride out we reached our destiny and was provided a natural shower (queue waterfall pic) to rinse off with. Not having the strongest of stomachs I was a little nervous I would be ill...luckily that wasn't in the cards either! But even if I was, we were reassured and caringly scanned by the best crew (Captain Glenn, Pat and Josh) throughout the entire trip for any green faces that may be in need of assistance and a "talking down". The ride back was beyond words with hundreds of beautiful photo opportunities accompanied by stories and lessons to learn about each of the amazing sights to be seen. We had an unforgettable experience on the boat cruise with the Holo Holo Cru! Our captain was like a sea life Jedi--he had an incredible eye for spotting wildlife. He even pointed out a tiger shark eating a bird just by catching a glimpse of a fin! We saw whales several times, and the captain's knowledge of the island, its culture, and the movies filmed there made the tour even more engaging. When my husband got seasick, the crew was amazing. They knew exactly what to do and were there for him every step of the way, making sure he was comfortable and cared for. We also saw thousands of dolphins and had an incredible time snorkeling on the reef, surrounded by colorful fish. At first I thought wow, seems like a lot of money for a boat ride around the corner. I was wrong. Everyone was very professional from the time you arrive until you are back at their shop. A quick shuttle ride drops you off at the end of the Hanalei river where you take a shuttle boat another five minutes to the raft moored in the bay. Captain Spencer and deck hand Leigon were awesome to say the least. We had a relatively calm day and got to go into the caves along the coast, through waterfalls and ALL the way to the end of the coast where we boated alongside dozens of dolphins. On the way back stopped at Tunnels beach to snorkel for a while and were fed a nice lunch before heading back to the bay. Best thing I've ever done on Kauai! read more

We did a tour with these guys about 10 days ago. They were absolutely awesome, from beginning to end,. Captain Ian, Zena, and another crew member (I'm embarrassed to admit I forgot his name) could not have been better for the role. They hustled to help anybody/everybody for the entire trip. They pulled off an impressive number of extras. They were very busy, yet they frequently checked in with everybody to ask how they were doing in some rough waters. They were incredibly sympathetic and attentive to anybody who was not doing well. In spite of being very busy, they offered to fetch our camera and they offered to take pictures of our group. I'm just amazed by the experience these people delivered, and for a very reasonable cost. read more

We went on a sunset dinner cruise to the Na Pali Coast in Kauai. Drew Kamili and Jess were amazing crew members. They made sure everyone was fully taken care of. Took pictures and served drinks. They were so upbeat and a lot of fun. Everything was great. My only complaint was the dinner buffet. While it was delicious it was wraps with BBQ pork and added ingredients. When the wind blew we all ended up with BBQ sauce/juice sprayed all over our clothes. My husbands shirts was so covered. Maybe not the best food dish to eat while boating into the wind. We both had new shorts and shirts on and hope the stains come out. Otherwise it was perfect. Gorgeous scenery and just a really fun time. read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Leila Napali Sunset Sail in late September for our 40th wedding anniversary. It was a quality experience. The crew took extremely good care of all the guests. Their genuine, helpful, gracious, and adept service created the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful experience. We have taken the sunset tour with other companies, but Holo Holo provided a noticeably better experience. The boat was newer and very clean. The food and drinks were ample and delicious. The service was over the top. No hype, no attitude, just pure friendliness and an excellent sail. We would highly recommend this Charter company. read more

We took the 3:00 sunset/ booze cruise on 5/17/2019. Our crew was DYNAMITE.. Capt. Drew was just like Captain Ron From Overboard.... super cool and a very smooth operator. His great way of communicating facts and navigating the rough ways was awesome. Jess, our Marine Biologist hostess with the mostess was super cool and full of knowledge about our Dolphins that we saw....... and she cleaned my glasses .... Broddah Jay what can I say Mahalo brah you brought the Aloha vibe to our boat...... you made me and so many others smile wide and long..... The Ni'ihau/Nā Pali tour was amazing and by far the best thing we did on our trip to Kauai! During the boat ride we saw the sunrise, toured the Nā Pali Coast, snorkeled at Lehua, and went past Ni'ihau. There were a bunch of whales, dolphins, and fish. We also got to see a few monk seals and even snorkeled with a manta ray! Captain Drew and the crew (Ahren, Emily, and Kama) were very friendly and accommodating. The food was also great, too. This is definitely worth it (both the Ni'ihau/Nā Pali 7 hour tour and the sunset tour - we did that one last year in the summer) and I completely recommend it. read more

Our tour with Holo Holo on 3/28/2025 was a wonderful experience! The crew gave us so much information on Kauai and what we were seeing and that enhanced our tour so much! We were six travelers including grandpa, grandma, mom, dad and a 14 year old and an 11 year old. We would recommend this Na Pali Coast sunset dinner to cruise to everyone. The catamaran wasn't too big so that that the captain could bring us up close to the caves and waterfalls. So beautiful!
