Friendly staffer- tried using the free board check in deal but he said it didn't work and would direct you to buy a tour prior to getting a desk. I appreciated the heads up! They should change the snorkel mask categories to Really crappy and expensive, crappy and more expensive, and finally silicone and way too expensive (Almost $50/week) We could have rented quality silicone masks from our condo hut for $30/ week instead of the "crappy and more expensive" leaky mask. Snorkel Bobs used to be a great option, now the greed has taken over. Recommend you find the coupon at your resort and rent for under $30/ week. read more

I want great things for Snorkel Bob and his whole store. We couldn't get a spot on one of those pricey Na Pali Coast tours so instead we went to Snorkel Bob's and got set up promptly in a clear, polite, Covid-safe manner by the man running the store (maybe it was Snorkel Bob himself? Who knows). Got masks (the nicest ones), snorkels, and flippers for two people for $25. Honestly the paper handout with snorkeling tips written by Snorkel Bob was worth the price alone. "Snorkel meditation is a growth opportunity." Too true, Snorkel Bob. I went five minutes down the road to Koloa Landing and I saw a sea turtle swim right by me with my own eyes, and I only had to pay Snorkel Bob $12.50! Are you kidding! Total delight. read more

Snorkel Bob's has a very covid-friendly process outlined on the window that requires scanning a QR code, making a reservation online, and responding to a few text messages before being invited in. This was pretty thoughtfully designed, but because they only allow one customer in at a time, which caused us to wait outside for 15 minutes before being serviced. We had a bit of a time crunch, so was hoping for a more expedited service. Once inside however, everything was smooth. The gentleman who helped fit us was very knowledgable and patient, answered all of our questions, maintained social distancing, and had a great selection of gear. The return process was pretty simple too -- just drop it in a bin (they support after hours). Prices were compelling too! read more

Not the best value on the beach. Basically knock off/generic beach chairs. Far cry from the Tommy Bahama's we have rented in the past. As seems to be the common excuse, COVID staffing. Even so, we did not receive any reduction in pricing which is, obviously, a disappointment given the poor product quality. I appreciated the online reservation system. The human who helped us in the Poipu area store was competent and friendly. Unfortunately we were really unimpressed with the equipment. For such a high volume snorkel renting company, the gear was old. The silicone mask headstraps would not hold and kept slipping. The fit check should also have been more diligent as my daughters could not get a reliable seal (which dampened their enthusiasm for snorkeling). The beach chairs rented were flimsy and worn. Called the store and they offered to inspect and trade out any faulty equipment but at that point the damage was done - not going to take more time out of our vacation to drive back to the store and deal. read more

I've never been more impressed by the boat captains precision in navigating his boat through tight quarters. Rob, courageously backed it in pretty tight under a waterfall into a cave. I hate to leave a 2, it's closer to a 2.5, but it is what it is. When we used SB's in Maui, WOW. They were awesomely helpful, gave us all sorts of tips and info, and generally made our snorkeling experience better. The equipment was great and we had a lot of fun. BUT... on Kauai, I experienced nothing but problems with my mask. I had to replace it once and when I got the new mask, same problems with the old- the strap kept popping out, and I'd have to scramble to catch the sinking plastic pieces to reset it. Maddening. The clerk at the Kauai shop wasn't rude, but she wasn't especially helpful either. It was just a lackluster experience after having had a stellar one. read more

Whenever we go to Hawaii, Snorkel Bob's is our first stop from the airport. We chose Snorkel Bob's as our equipment rental vendor because of their exceptional customer service, great prices, and fantastic equipment. We always rent for the entire week, and it is so much better to do it that way. Even if you are planning on taking a boat trip for some snorkeling or diving, I would recommend getting equipment from SB's or another vendor since the equipment is much better than what is available on the commercial boats. Another plus is the fact that they offer corrective masks for people who need them, like my hon of hons husband. He is pretty near sighted and being able to rent a corrective mask makes a huge difference. SB's also rents umbrellas, boogie boards, coolers, beach chairs, floats and a whole bunch of other beach items. Fast and friendly service. read more

Rented gear here on my recent trip to Kauai. While it's not the only place to rent snorkel gear on the island, it certainly seems to be the most popular. I went with the $6/day gear, and while it worked fine (and I'd read in the travel guides not to upgrade), I actually think the more expensive gear might have been more comfy for only a few more dollars a day. Try and both and see what you think. My husband was able to get prescription snorkel goggles here, which he was super into. Point off because we had to wait a long time to pick out our gear since (according to the guy working) the other staff hadn't shown up that day. read more

For the entire week for 3 people, it was only $130 give or take but it comes with the special mask that water will not go into the tube, flippers and smog free lube plus a carry net bag that was so convienant. A week rental for the fins was 8 bucks and the guy even helped my fix my snorkeling gear so that it fit correctly. Even gave me some anti-fog solution for the mask on the house. A great experience for newbie snorkelers. Snorkel Bob's has some great, friendly staff that really know their stuff. Upon arrival, we were clearly explained the options. The equipment was high quality. Given the amazing fish on the reefs here, it's worth going with one of the more expensive options (which still are not bad). My boyfriend got the prescription goggles which he said he could see out of better than his glasses. I noticed that other shops don't give you bags...I liked the convenient mesh bag. Another cool bonus was the fish identification card...how else will you figure out what a humuhumunukunukuapua'a looks like? They're awesome btw. They even let us borrow a beach umbrella (which they do not rent out any more) for free. The price was awesome. I would do it again! Equipment was fine but their "insurance" add on is a bit of a scam. I believe it was only $15 so I took the insurance.. thanks for everything and off to the beach. I honestly never thought that anything would get stolen, but what the hell.. my wife's mask went missing the first day after leaving it on the chair while snorkeling with swim goggles. Sure glad I bought the insurance!.. um no. After returning the equipment and explaining the loss.. $57 please. me: "But I bought the insurance.. ? " SB: "you needed to file a police report" !!! I understand that this makes perfect sense but I WAS NOT TOLD THIS WHEN I RENTED THE EQUIPMENT. When questioning this, the woman at the store stated... SB: " we normally tell everyone of this policy"... ME: "but you (another salesman) didn't tell me".. SB: " but we normally tell everyone of this policy". ME: " this should be an absolute policy as it makes perfect sense, but I was not told anything about filing a police report" SB: "we normally tell everyone about our policy" Good conversation! I quickly paid the $50 (not the point) and went on my way. I kind of felt like I should have walked out and told them to file a police report on me. Again, the equipment was OK, no problems there.. just annoyed with the customer service. If I return, I'd probably find another option for my snorkel gear... or at least just not get the insurance. read more
