We had the most amazing experience spear fishing with Kalani and Jen. Jen was so patient with me as a mediocre swimmer while Kalani took my husband out for a more challenging experience. He was careful to find a great dive spot despite changing weather conditions. Even just the snorkeling component was awesome with massive sea turtles. Remember to bring ice and a cooler because Kalani will make sure you leave with fish!

Kalani spotted me Spearfishing in Hanalei and very politely introduced himself to me as the owner of a Spearfishing guide business as he handed me his card. From our phone call to our time spearfishing together in the water he was professional and explained everything very clearly. It was great to have Jen along with us, she took some great photos and videos and is also an experience spearfishing guide. I decided to extend to a full day because we are having so much fun and had great conditions. Kalani taught me techniques with breathing safety gear and fish identification. I got and nice surgeonfish and a orange banded triggerfish, both were tasty. I'll be booking another trip with him next time I visit Kauai.

I have always wanted to try spearfishing. Kalani and Jenn start with the basics, and then take you out. It was a complete blast and I got a beautiful amberjack!!! This was my first time, I'm addicted, I'll be back!!

    first catch!

All i brought with me were my swim fins and an extra bicep leash I had. I was looking for a legit bodyboard rental and the shops I had been to and/or the beach side rental shacks had boards that just werent up to par. I was down the road at Tamba buying tees and the guy there (thankfully) referred me to Kapaa Beach Shop when I asked if he knew of any places that had quality bodyboard rentals. He told me Mike at KBS rented Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards.... The look of shock on my face was probably photo worthy. I couldnt believe the type of place I had been looking for was just down the road. It was already my 2nd time in Kapaa by that point. Kapaa Beach Shop is on your right side along Kuhio Highway if you are coming from the Lihue area. It's right after Chicken in a Barrel BBQ. It has about 4 dedicated spaces out front in its gravel driveway. They rent everything from beach umbrellas, chairs, bicycles, diving and snorkeling gear... You name it. You need it for the beach, he has it. It was jamming with customers the both times I went there but Mike was gracious and helpful with all of us. I was able to rent a hybrid Mike Stewart Science bodyboard which I used at a few beaches on the island. It was great. Thick board with lots of float to it, making catching waves easier. It also came with a Gyroll bicep leash... It was like a setup I would gladly have every day back home. I'm thankful to Mike for the Aloha and just being super cool in providing a quality rental. We chatted it up a bit and you can tell he is legit and really knows his stuff. I HIGHLY recommend you go see Mike at Kapaa Beach Shop for all your beach rental needs. He is the man. Mahalos Mike! Shout out to Chaos the shop dog at KBS. Chee!

She's very experienced, knowledgable and put my mind at ease on shore and in the water. Felt incredibly safe diving with her and excited to explore the underwater wonderland of Kauai. My two boat dives with Julie were enjoyable as well. The water was a bit choppy on the surface after a couple days of wind and rain and she did a great job of explaining what to expect, keeping the group together underwater and ensuring everyone was safe, enjoying themselves and seeing lots of cool things. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she has an amazing eye for spotting sea life - from a massive octopus, to turtles, harlequin shrimp, moray eels, domino damselfish and more. From start to finish Fathom Five Divers offered an incredible experience. I picked this shop over the others in the area because their response to my email enquiries were so detailed and helpful. She made the dives fun and educational at the same time. Her passion for diving was infectious. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an instructor or even just a guided dive. For the Enriched Air Diver course our instructor was Reid. He too, was very knowledgable and an excellent teacher. Also, when one of our divers had to cancel one of the course dives they were very accomodating in rescheduling his dive for later. All in all, we felt we were in great hands the entire time, we felt safe, welcome and well attended to!!

From the second we got on the boat, they made everyone feel welcome and were so friendly, funny, and accommodating. They took the time to engage with everyone on board, which made the whole experience feel really personal. Capt. Kealoha did an incredible job sharing the history of the Nā Pali Coast, pointing out famous movie filming locations, and explaining the history of different landmarks along the way. It made the trip so much more than just a beautiful boat ride, it felt like we were getting a personal tour of one of the most stunning places in Hawaii. When it was time to snorkel, the crew made sure everyone felt comfortable and informed before getting in the water. They even jumped in with us, which made the experience even more fun and reassuring. The two kids in our group had an absolute blast and haven't stopped talking about it! The views were unreal, the crew made the entire day so much fun, and we left talking about how glad we were that we booked with Blue Dolphin Charters. If you're visiting Kauai and thinking about doing a Nā Pali Coast tour, this is the one. I would recommend them over and over again!

They responded quickly months prior while we were still doing research for our trip. Captain Cole Jarrett and Lily ran a solid experience. Clear instructions from the beginning, information during, and stories intertwines as we traveled along the coast. We also had some waves while dodging dark clouds. We were able to squeeze ahead of it tho with a little bit of water tho still warm really. It was a bit bumpy when we had to get ahead of the storm but that's understandable. During the trip around we saw a few whales and beautiful views of the Napali coast. There was also a small dolphin and plenty of flying fish skipping across the water. Dinner included had pulled pork and teriyaki chicken. I also had a vegetarian meal which was great. It was their own mix over rice. Flavors were good tho a little dry. A gravy would've melded things but otherwise still a good mix. The food was onboard and drinks were great. Lily was running around delivering drinks and snacks. We got many drinks and cookies over the course of the cruise. It was a great experience overall, would certainly recommend.

We dove at Koloa Landing, a place I have dove before and taken some beautiful people snorkeling as well. So it made me think, if Creation could still be this good after we humans messed it up. Just think what a restored creation will be. THE STAR INSTRUCTOR Cassie our dive guide is one to credit here. Cassie and Koloa Landing on a 'so-so' day repaired my belief in shore dives. I've been diving 30 yrs. and am a rescue diver. We had the most wonderful 26yr old local dive instructor. Cassie is attentive while not over protective, alert with a well-trained eye. Cassie has respect for the environment of Hawaii, land and see with an intimate knowledge of the location and the underwater creation. Cassie has grown up doing this and is still in love with it. Her joy shows in her energy and delight to share what she loves and knows. Its like someone having the gift of hospitality related to the ocean and the island. She would be great with children too; we want to bring our 3yr old grandson for an experience with her. She will see he feels safe and falls in love with the ocean too. A quick refresher with Cassie is not a dry or droning thing but a fun and assuring few minutes that will address those little anxieties that are under the surface for those whose last vacation was their last dive. THE DIVE I was not stoked to go to btw, Koloa Landing (our other site was diverted because of the Hurricane influence), but Cassie found more life here than ever in one dive. Seriously if you are a beginner you may not know the difference but after a dive with Cassie here, you may always find yourself disappointed anywhere else with anyone else! You just might think this is what everywhere is like, its not. (I have dove on all the Hawaiian Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Red Sea, Sea of Cortez, Cozumel, Monterey, Costa Rica, The Mediterranean etc. everywhere has its own value, and this place had some great things.) We saw 5 kinds, not 5 eels, 5 kinds of Eels (dragon, pepper, moray, tiger, snowflake), 5 Octopi (3 swimming), more turtles than we could count (Kauai has the biggest turtles on the planet - some 5' shell length), a mature Frog fish - big - I have seen juveniles before but this dude was good size. Never in Hawaii have I had a dive guide find 1, let alone 2 big live Pu ( 'poo' is the Hawaiian Name for Conch shell), tiger cowry etc. You get 'my drift' (that's dive joke btw). THE SHOUT OUT TO THE DIVE COMPANY Shout out to Watersports Adventures and Cassie Winston she is superlative. We have dove in Kauai a dozen times with another company from a boat, which is great. But consider saving a little cash with a shore dive that is easy entry with an excellent family owned family run company with a born and raised local girl that will make your experience a sweet thing! https://kauai-dive.com/ Watersports Adventure. With the times, if there are not enough they will consolidate times. We were signed up for 10am but got moved to 8am. You meet at Haleiwa docks near the blue hut (see photo). They provide mask, snorkel, and fins. You should bring a rash guard or wetsuit. The ride out is about 15 mins and as is typical in Hawaii, water can be choppy so you might get a little seasick. They give you instructions on the boat. Once there you hang on to a rope on the side of the boat and they take you individually to dive down closer to the sharks. We got lucky because there were tiger sharks (see photos). The cost is about $150 person but I would recommend paying some additional money for the go pro. You really want some documentation of what you did and saw. It's $50 for 2 people. They also have $250 option for photos and go pro but I think the go pro was enough. The people were really good and it was a great experience for all of us. Strongly recommend.
