Today we were so blessed. My wife and I got to dive. THE LOCATION Not where we wanted to go and not on a boat. We dove at Koloa Landing, a place I have dove before and taken some beautiful people snorkeling as well. So it made me think, if Creation could still be this good after we humans messed it up. Just think what a restored creation will be. THE STAR INSTRUCTOR Cassie our dive guide is one to credit here. Cassie and Koloa Landing on a 'so-so' day repaired my belief in shore dives. I've been diving 30 yrs. and am a rescue diver. We had the most wonderful 26yr old local dive instructor. Cassie is attentive while not over protective, alert with a well-trained eye. Cassie has respect for the environment of Hawaii, land and see with an intimate knowledge of the location and the underwater creation. Cassie has grown up doing this and is still in love with it. Her joy shows in her energy and delight to share what she loves and knows. Its like someone having the gift of hospitality related to the ocean and the island. She would be great with children too; we want to bring our 3yr old grandson for an experience with her. She will see he feels safe and falls in love with the ocean too. A quick refresher with Cassie is not a dry or droning thing but a fun and assuring few minutes that will address those little anxieties that are under the surface for those whose last vacation was their last dive. THE DIVE I was not stoked to go to btw, Koloa Landing (our other site was diverted because of the Hurricane influence), but Cassie found more life here than ever in one dive. Seriously if you are a beginner you may not know the difference but after a dive with Cassie here, you may always find yourself disappointed anywhere else with anyone else! You just might think this is what everywhere is like, its not. (I have dove on all the Hawaiian Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Red Sea, Sea of Cortez, Cozumel, Monterey, Costa Rica, The Mediterranean etc. everywhere has its own value, and this place had some great things.) We saw 5 kinds, not 5 eels, 5 kinds of Eels (dragon, pepper, moray, tiger, snowflake), 5 Octopi (3 swimming), more turtles than we could count (Kauai has the biggest turtles on the planet - some 5' shell length), a mature Frog fish - big - I have seen juveniles before but this dude was good size. Never in Hawaii have I had a dive guide find 1, let alone 2 big live Pu ( 'poo' is the Hawaiian Name for Conch shell), tiger cowry etc. You get 'my drift' (that's dive joke btw). THE SHOUT OUT TO THE DIVE COMPANY Shout out to Watersports Adventures and Cassie Winston she is superlative. We have dove in Kauai a dozen times with another company from a boat, which is great. We went with WA to do an aquatic wildlife tour at Koloa Landing. Other than myself, my family had zero dive experience. Cassie, our dive guide, was a great instructor for my young girls (11 and 13yo), to quote my daughter, "I learned so much, but it's like she just talks to you!" I will tell you as an open water, cave & wreck diver that the quality of the instruction was appropriate for the demands of this dive, and excellent. Cassies attention to safety was fantastic, and I was impressed by her ability to give an extremely knowledgeable wildlife tour AND keep my crazy kids together and safe. We went on to get the girls their PADI Open Water certifications with Watersports over the next two weeks. We dove a total of 6 times - incredible Honu, fish, eels, octopi - rare species that are only found here on Kauai. JUST INCREDIBLE. The quality of the instruction and guide service was consistent throughout. I saw many other services there at Koloa - Watersports was not cookie cutter, and spared everyone dry lectures while they were stuck in their wetsuits in the hot sun. I first did a beginners dive with Gregg Winston at least 15 years ago - in the years since probably have done 20 dives or more with him or his daughter Cassie. Thanks to them I finally got certified (Gregg had been encouraging me for years). They are very careful, knowledgeable and great for beginners. We had a spectacular adventure with Gregg. We took the boat trip out to the Nepali coast and did dives and snorkeling as a group of five. Fabulous trip. They took us in close to do the caves and morning cruise all the way from Hanalei to end of Nepali beaches. Great views. Terrific service from Gregg and his crew. It was the highlight of the vacation. Something to know : as Gregg said , coming back against the current is like "driving a convertible through the car wash with the top down". Quite a wet and wild ride! But we cannot recommend it enough. Great captain running the boat. read more

Beware Gregg's "free" intro to scuba class at the Cliffs at Princeton or any other resort. He will hard-sell his scuba services by trash-talking the other vendors on the island and does not give group discounts like the other vendors. When he saw us at the dive site with another company, he starting making snide comments about how he "wasted his time on us" and told us that he "doesn't need our business" and that he "is plenty busy. I don't give away my services for free." He was yelling at me to "shut your mouth" in front of his customers as he was entering the dive site!!! A total unprofessional. Businesses like this cannot last. read more

Woo hoo! We, a family of four, dove with Cassie at the Koloa site on 8/15/19 and it was the best adventure ever! Cassie was amazing! I have a 10yo girl and a 12yo son who loved the idea of scuba but there were no guarantees it would work out. They did well in the resort pool but you never know. When we got to the Koloa dive site, our instructor, Cassie, was patient and kind and really focused on how the kids felt. Cassie had a great briefing and told the story in a way the kids understood. She was the ultimate professional. When my 10yo was getting nervous, Cassie soothed her and in the water my daughter held onto Cassie's arm the entire time underwater. It was an unbelievable experience! And, oh yeah, the marine life was incredible. We saw sleeping and swimming turtles, rock fish, eels, an octopus and much, much more. As a dad, I can't think of a better, more fun, more esteem building experience for my kids, than this. Sadly it will be a year until we return but when we do...well we're customers for life. My girlfriend and I were visiting Kauai for the first time just before Thanksgiving 2011. We did a bunch a snorkeling on our own around the island and had a great time. Towards the end of our trip, Gregg visited our hotel to plug his company (during a meeting where several vendors were presenting to us). As soon as the presentation was over, we booked an intro to SCUBA trip for the next morning. We had Wayne as our instructor and he was awesome. We got lucky and had a private session with him. When we got in the water, my girlfriend started to panic because of who knows what but Wayne was able to talk her down pretty easily and get her under that surface. She ended up having a great time and can't stop talking about how fun it was! He was so knowledgable and patient - he showed us all around, pointing out turtles, eels, etc. Highly highly recommend this company, and especially Wayne. We went in Nov when the water around the island is generally murkier than in the summer so I guess it's even better then. We had fun though! read more

The landing was packed with other companies which could be a bad thing but in this instance it allowed comparison to the others there. As my wife and I walked up we were engaged by another company that my be great drive instructors but lacked in conversational ability... They were kinda of goon-ish. It was as if they were talking talking down to us because we didn't book with them. *one thing lacking was a sign on any of the trucks* Anyhow after seeing Dylan he came over and introduced himself and started the paperwork. During this process he appeared to be evaluating our dive experience in a subtle way ( this outfit has good staff, diving is their product but customer service is their expertise). Overall condition of the gear was great but some of the booties appeared to have seen better days (one looked like a dog toy) the rest of the gear was good. After getting in the water and their "Cinderella fin" service it became clear this company was the right choice. First time divers get weird in the ocean more often than not and this was the case for my wife but Dylan didn't miss a beat he was cool as a fan and talked her into a comfortable state that kept us diving. Our site was packed with turtles and what seemed to be an active underwater world. We left with an education and memories. If you want that fun/unique dive experience book with this company but if you want the basic cookie cutter experience book with the others. read more

Last week, we had an incredible introduction to snorkeling and scuba for my whole family! Our guide Wayne was confident, thoughtful and kind. He had my 66 year old mom hold onto his arm to safely lead her through the slippery ramp to the water. He entertained my 9 year old son in his first snorkeling adventure, with some tricks and small lessons. He warned us all about navigating the rocks and other small hazards. We had two experienced snorkelers and two beginners in our group, and everyone had a great time seeing sea turtles and dozens of species of fish very close up! Wayne also led me on my first scuba diving experience right after the snorkel, and offered to have me hold onto his arm during the dive. But he eased up when he saw how well I was handling it. He was always close at hand and available, but not interfering with my exploration. He also attended to some more experienced scuba divers who joined for this dive. Perfect! This robust safety and customer service approach seems to be the legacy of Gregg Weston, owner of Watersports, who has been teaching snorkeling on Kauai for 20+ years. I first met him at a group orientation and group snorkeling intro at the Wyndham Bali Hai Villas Resort, and I was a little put off by his showmanship. But in one-on-one conversation, it became clear that his passion for safety and a fun experience for his customers runs deep. The chant his daughter performed in the native Hawaiian language at the Wyndham orientation was spellbinding! I'm thankful for this wonderful experience and would recommend these guides to anyone, especially people who are trying snorkeling or scuba for the first time. Be sure to check that you have specific directions to your site the day before. The staff at Wayersports Adventures did, of course, text us the directions when we called them en route because we had forgotten the directions we had. Great service! This is an excellent scuba experience for beginners. My wife and I had never been scuba diving before, and Wayne and Derek made us feel safe and at home. It was clear that this place's first focus is on safety. Derek went through a maybe 45-minute introduction before we even hit the water, explaining how the gear worked, going through hand signs, and talking through how to ascend and descend safely. I was especially impressed by their perfect safety record over some 30 years of operation. Once we got in the water, the safety precautions continued, with all of us holding onto Wayne's arms at first, and each other's hands later. The views were amazing, with at least two turtles and many schools of tropical fish. And it was really, really cool to be able to breathe underwater! If I ever visit Kauai again, I'm definitely going back to these guys. read more

We were very impressed on what we saw during our shore dive at Kaloa Landing. Wayne and Derek were very knowledgable and friendly, and pointed out turtles, eels and different types of fish. Granted there wasn't a big area to see (perhaps one tank instead of two tank dive would suffice), but there was quite a bit to see. Sure we didn't see whales or dolphins, but 'can't have high expectations from a shore dive. We got the premium service since we had two dive master/instructors for both of us :) Downside was the price a bit high for a shore dive (about $130 per person for two tanks-we booked through the Cliffs) and there were no facilities in the area. They did have out-houses though. I would recommend this if you want a quick dive without the boat ride and want to see quite a bit. Wayne and Derek were great and made the dives awesome! read more

My husband and I did an intro dive 5 years ago with these guys. It was such an awesome experience that we got certified soon after. Now we're back again for more! Cassie did a fabulous job as our guide. She was so prepared with snacks, water, and even hand sanitizer. She made sure we felt comfortable the whole time. I wish I had read the reviews first. Avoid these folks. I am PADI certified and was put in with first time divers. Our dive was short and I returned with 1200 psi still in my tank. The dive was in a dirty lagoon with debris from the river rather than clear water. My wife wanted to dive but had an ear infection and they wouldn't let her but they still charged her for the class. What an experience! We have been to Kauai on several occasions and have never had an experience like this. We feel so lucky to have bumped into Greg and his team at our hotel when he shared with us the great adventures they offer along the North Shore of Kauai. We were at the Koloa landing today with Dylan. I had never dived before and was pretty scared. It was just my husband and I with the instructor so it was very one on one. He was super down to earth and very knowledgeable. When we got out into the water I started freaking out. I was terrified and hyperventilating. The instructor kept me calm and didn't get agitated at all. He stayed with me and assured I would be fine. Finally, I went down and eventually was so comfortable I was able to go off on my own! He was very interactive and pointed out things we wouldn't have noticed. Even let us hold a few things. I would highly recommend this company and am thankful for the instructor that we had!! read more

Beware - Poor equipment checking and a bad attitude. After a nice sales pitch at the Westin Princeville, we unfortunately booked with this company. I was hoping for my son and I to have a good first scuba experience. Unfortunately it was frightening and stressful event due to unchecked equipment that likely had failed well prior to the dive and failed again on my dive. This has turned me off on scuba. The initial response from the instructor was to blame the guest. Don't risk your precious Kauai time with this outfit. read more

What an amazing experience scuba diving at Tunnels on Kauai! Wayne was our instructor and he was top notch. We gave us a thorough introduction because we hadn't been diving in about 3 years. I was a bit nervous before getting in the water, but that longer introduction calmed me down. We dove with Wayne and one other guest from the Westin in Princeville and it was an awesome, personal experience. We loved exploring the caverns! Cassie was our trainer and guide for our beginning shore dive. There were four of us, parents and two teen boys. Cassie was friendly, a good instructor, and a warm, helpful instructive guide. We had ordered a two tank dive and all felt a little tired after the first tank. One son decided not to do the second tank. The rest of us did and were glad we had. We were more relaxed and could enjoy seeing the beautiful fish and turtles more. I would highly recommend this company! It was a great experience! read more

My teen daughter, husband and I dove on Thanksgiving morning with Wayne on the south shore. Only my daughter and I had dove before but it was in a swimming pool 4 years ago! Haha! Wayne was amazing with training us, calming us down and then having us hang on to him as he took us down into a beautiful reef 40' down. The experience was life changing. We saw so much marine life it made both my family and I have a new appreciation for what lies in the sea. This is one thing in Kauai'i we will always come back and do! When I showed up for my dive with Down Under Diving, I wasn't aware that they had cancelled due to "poor conditions." However, when I arrived, Dylan from Watersport Adventures was at Koloa Point, and he had a no-show diver. So I stayed and had two dives with him and some others. The other divers were completely new to scuba. I am certified, but I'm still a beginner. All that being said, Dylan welcomed me to dive with him, and it was great!!! He gave a very thorough overview/review of the important rules, and he stayed with each of us until we were comfortable. Had a wonderful time and felt extremely confident under his care. Definitely recommend working with them, whether you're an experienced diver OR if you're a beginner. Worth every penny and then some! read more

This was the best private charter of the Napali Coast I've done so far. Gregg and Troy are experienced watermen who have spent their entire lives on the ocean and definitely emphasize safety above all else. We had the boat to ourselves - 7 of us not including the crew fit very comfortably- and it was not crammed with dozens of other tourists like other tours I've done. It's also not the kind of boat that will get you seasick. We left out of Hanalei in the morning, toured the coast, went to a secluded beach and took a very short hike to an epic waterfall, and then headed back by early afternoon - perfect way to spend a half day. This SCUBA tour was excellent. We had Greg come to our hotel at the Cliffs in Princeville, he taught us what to do in the pool and we actually got to put the tank on and learn in the pool. At the pool he told us about his perfect safety, he has never had a SCUBA accident with one of his guests. When we got out to the landing he briefed us and let us tell him our concerns and he reassured us about everything. He taught us all of the hand signals and he told us about what we would be doing. When we got into the water we floated for awhile and went down and up a little bit and if we were not comfortable yet we would stay near the surface. Since we liked Greg so much at the pool we requested him for the ocean dive. Greg is funny but still knows how to be safe and serious. There are a lot of rumors about Greg on yelp website but there not true, he's great. I was so happy with the tour that I created a yelp account to right this review. I would highly recommend this tour. You don't have to do any work and it is very stress free. read more

My friend and I decided to try the Intro to Scuba excursion that was offered. We both had never been scuba diving and were a bit apprehensive. Luckily, we had taken a poolside scuba lesson, which made us more at ease with the equipment. Our excursion was located at Koloa Landing and we had 2 friendly instructors named Cassie and Wayne. Overall, for someone that is deathly afraid of the ocean and can't swim well, I had a great time and never felt scared. Would definitely do again if I return to the island. read more

We have no ax to grind nor do we live in Hawaii and have never been aware of this company before. We are not expert by any means, but we are certified and have dove in several other locations including Mexico. We were surprised that one of our group of four, was not only not certified, but had never dove before. The entire dive was subject to her limitations. For the first several minutes all four of us were instructed to hold on to the arms of the instructor, which was not only strange, but very uncomfortable. We would be surprised if we exceeded 25 feet, and again we assume this was do to the presence of the uncertified diver. We are also pretty sure we swam in a very limited area, again due to these circumstances. We would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I setup a dive for myself and 4 non-certified youth divers. Two of the youth were my kids 8 and 10 years old. The two other divers were 12 and 15. I told Watersports Adventures on the phone that I wanted to stay with my boys during the dive. I also went over this requirement with the dive masters at the dive site before we went in the water. Once we were in the water a new dive master, who I believe is the owner, told me I needed to stay with his group and could not stay with my kids. This was done in a very condescending tone "I understand what you are saying but I'm not sure you understand what I'm saying". "The 10 year old has to come with me or you have to come with me, pick, pick right now". I said if the 10 year old goes with your group the deepest your group can go is 10 feet. He said "actually the deepest I can go with 10 year old is 40 feet... I need you to listen to what I'm saying". I was not confortable having my 10 year old go more than 10 feet down on this first ever SCUBA experience. He then continued to say it was a legal thing. I told him what he wanted to hear, that I would stay with him, then just stayed with my boys after we got under water. My GoPro was recording at the time so I have his exact words. They only had one long wetsuit small enough so my 10 year old was forced to wear a shorty that was several sizes too big. As a result he got cold and had to end his dive early. They charged me as a non-certified diver even though they knew I was certified and we dove that way. After the dive I paid but did not leave a tip. Once the dive master realized this he followed me down the beach wanting to talk about it. I told him that I did not like how he spoke to me. He tried to argue with me and I told him the conversation was over. He continued to follow me down the beach asking to talk. I told him to drop it or I would leave a negative review. Later while I was out snorkeling with my boys they continued to discuss it with my wife. As a result I'm leaving this review. read more

What a fabulous day! We chartered the boat for a ride along the Na Pali Coast. Gregg and Kumua could not have been more accommodating, fun, and informative. We experienced dolphins, up close and so graceful, explored sea caves, did some snorkeling, and had an exhilarating, wet and wild, fast, bumpy, crazy, laughing all the way return after a thorough soaking under a waterfall. HORRIBLE experience with this company. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. Scheduled a dive through the resort with Cassie to complete my certification and a beginning dive for my husband. When we showed up for the lesson (having to walk 1/2 mile to the site - ridiculous) Cassie was rude, arrogant and did not seem to know what she was doing at all. She did not seem to want to be there. She severely criticized the original company that filled out my log book (although the company I finally got my cert with knew exactly what was in the log book and said everything was filled out properly.) She didn't even know how to complete my certification (the other company on Kauai that I got my final cert with knew EXACTLY what to do - GO SEE SEASPORT DIVERS - THEY'RE AWESOME!). She called my husband a liar several times because she did not properly inform him of the medical information. Their form is not even a PADI form. It's something they seem to have made up. I decided not to dive with her because I was not comfortable with her skills (not to mention attitude) at all but she immediately ran up to the beach and charged my credit card (which I got in email a few minutes later). I don't know about the rest of the company, but Cassie is unprofessional, rude and arrogant. I would never recommend anybody diving with her. I am working with my credit card company to get my money back, but they are fighting that too. I hope it's worth $200 to lose your reputation, because this will be posted everywhere. I wasn't sure if I was going to write a review on here or not seeing that we did our dive a few weeks ago but I felt I owed it to other divers. We went on a dive with this company under the instruction of a guy named Benjamin. When we met up with him he seemed a little strange but my girlfriend and I thought maybe he was just odd. We went for our dive and he was very in attentive going off on his own and leaving us to ourselves. This was my girlfriends first dive and she was nervous as it was. Our dive was shorter than it was supposed to be and we were a bit disappointed but didn't say anything and continued to be nice. He talked to us about tipping which we thought was rude. To top it off he asked us if we wanted to hang out later and offered us marijuana. We began to understand why he was acting so strange! In any event I decided to post this because I think it's dangerous for this guy to be taking people out on dives under the influence and it was unprofessional of him to try to connect with us afterward. We come to Kauai every year and we were so dissatisfied. If I were his boss I would be drug testing to ensure the quality of people working for him. read more
