It's been a hot second since I've been here, but I've been here at least twice now! The first time was at least around the pandemic time. This time I came with my mom. I remembered the kapoon being generously sized and delicious, and the nam khao also being solid. My mom hadn't had these dishes before, so we decided to order these. My mom also hadn't had stuffed wings before, and I hadn't had it here before, so we also got that. To start, service here was exceptional. The young gentleman greeted us when we came in, and he was great at communication. There were times he was busy as it was the lunch hour, but he made sure to let us know that he didn't forget about us. We had asked for more time to look over the menu, but he had to get stuff for another table, and he basically told us he would be right with us. I haven't seen this basic communication at other places in a while, and definitely noticed. He was also very attentive and asked us preemptively if we were sharing the kapoon and that they could split it up into two bowls for us, instead of having us split it ourselves. Dishes we had: - Kapoon: Despite it being split into two bowls, it was still generously sized. Lots of chicken pieces, lots of noodles. The soup was flavorful on it's own. There's also quail eggs. They give you a side of lime, mint, bean sprouts, and shredded cabbage. - Nam Khao: Slightly on the saltier side, but it was still good. Great texture. It comes with cucumbers and a couple leaves of lettuce. Wished there was a bit more lettuce to wrap the nam khao in, and also a bit of lime on the side. We used our leftover lime for this dish. You can get fermented pork on the side, which the server quickly asked and I almost didn't process what he said, but I said yes to it. It was a packaged stick of fermented pork with a chili that you can cut with scissors and gloves they provide to you. The gloves might not be necessary if you cut the packaging and then cut the fermented pork stick straight from the packaging (trying to save the business some expenses!) - Stuffed wing: Delicious! Very flavorful. You can taste the lime leaf flavor in there. It tastes amazing with the sweet chili sauce. They can also give you another sauce on the side (didn't catch it), but it adds a bit of moisture and extra flavor with the sauce. The chicken skin had a nice slight crisp and chew to it. It comes with pickled veggies. They do have a lunch specials version of this that comes with rice, and I think rice on the side would be nice with this. It's $1 for the rice on the side with other extra things to the lunch special. The rest of the menu has definitely expanded since the pandemic to include soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, ice cream, happy hour and lunch specials. I am curious about their sandwiches and some of their other soups, and would love to come back soon! read more

Those were probably the best parts of the meal and what I enjoyed the most. The Beef Larb was a little too tough for my liking. It felt slightly overcooked and just wasn't the texture I was expecting. The Chow Fun noodles were also way too soft for my preference. I like my noodles with a little more texture, so these didn't really do it for me. Overall: 3/5 For what we ordered, $80 felt pretty expensive, especially considering the food was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but for that price, I expected to be more impressed. Would I go back? Probably not anytime soon. One of my favorite places to eat, despite it being really hot inside most visits. Wish they had a better circulation system. I've been trying new items here every time I come and this time I tried the nam khao. Really different than what I'm used to but it was really good. I really liked the favor of it. With the letter it was so fresh and delicious. The chasu chicken box was also really good and fresh. Staff are also so nice and friendly, little hole in the wall. Yelp led us to this gem. The restaurant is comfortable. The music was lovely. Our server, Mackenzie, is attentive, answered all our questions, and made excellent suggestions. We had the Nam Khao. One plate is probably enough for two people, but had one of us suggested this, the other would have said "No!" It's that delicious. We decided to be grownups and took enough home for dinner tonight. Unfortunately it did not hit the spot. raw beef laab - They told me they could not make it bitter. So I got medium spice. It had next to no flavor. There was no powder, no acidity, there was nothing. It just tasted like chopped beef. it looked nice. but lacked any flavor. 1/5 would not recommend. Nam Khao w/shrimp - this was delicious, the rice was extra crispy which some may not like. but I enjoyed it. The shrimp needed some of the same seasoning. It tasted overcooked and plain. but all in all I enjoyed it. would get again 5/5 Lao style papaya (medium) - no. This missed the mark by a long shot. Came Friday night for dinner and were surprised to be informed that the happy hour lunch deal was going through the entire day! We ordered 2 sets of the lunch beef and chicken skewer deal (2 skewers for $5), kapoon (HUGE BOWL, more than enough for 2 meals), and a Laotian style papaya salad. The papaya salad was definitely tasty but spicier than I expected it to be. It was very refreshing when paired with the skewers (very juicy texture) and the kapoon! The kapoon includes chickens and quail eggs, and you can choose the type of noodle you want for your soup, as well as add additional ingredients to the soup. I think this place is such value add! The only aspect that docked some points was the soup was a lukewarm when it arrived to the table and the Thai tea did not meet my expectations. I've had a few of their dishes several times now, and even ordered a large party tray of their Nam Khao--it's the closest I've found to authentic Thai, Cambodian, and Lao flavors. I've dined in once with a friend and liked how beautifully each dish was presented; the spread looked amazing. Most of the time, though, I order takeout. They offer a great variety of dishes ranging from small appteziers like their beef skewers to Banh Mi sandwiches and main entrees. I feel like their portions sometimes come out smaller than expected and doesn't fill me up as much. Some of my favorites are the Nam Khao Fried Rice and the Spicy Popcorn Chicken Larb--both are incredibly flavorful and a must-try. I've also tried their Lao sausage (sometimes a hit or miss but still tasty), papaya salad (Lao style), lemongrass beef soup (just okay for me) kao poon (could use more flavor), and stuffed chicken wings (very flavorful). The Thai tea was decent but not my favorite. My son likes their drunken noodles and basil fried rice. They also serve smoothies and even have Gunther's ice cream, which is a nice bonus! read more

Chicken skewers much better than beef. Service was on the low end tbh, it was two ppl in the front and i get they were kinda busy running around but we had to ask and wait for everything. Check out the amount of shrimp!! I ordered a Grilled shrimp bahi mi sandwich and I truly enjoyed the flavor and the quality of shrimp. When you order shrimp, it can always be hit or miss, but this place was a hit. I do wish it had a touch more fresh veggies inside but the spicy mayo mixed with fresh jalapeño was delicious. It service was ok... one guy ordered my food and told me it would be about 15 minutes .. which is fine. There was plenty seating available. The ice cream area looked out of service. The only thing that threw me off is when I went to pick up my food....There was a bowl sitting out with what appeared to be rolled sausage inside. I don't know if it was defrosting or about to be cooked, but it was sitting out in room temperature. I always wanted to try this resturant out but because I live on the other side of town and has never felt the need to drive all the way to Elk Grove to try it. So when I was coming back into town and Elk Grove was gonna be the place we stop for dinner I chose SEA hunt. The restaurant is located in a small plaza. The resturant itself was a bit small. We order their popular dishes. We order the nam khao, papaya salad, kapoon and ka phia. That was all so good., the kapoon broth was delicious. The nam khao is the best. It appeared to be only young college people but later saw middle aged customers coming in. There were QR Code menus at the tables. It was Happy Hour so I ordered the shrimp roll, chicken egg roll and wings. It was more than enough for me as I was full when I left. I also ordered the grilled pork sandwich to go but I forgot to photograph it. The service was good even though the guy running the cash register was also the waiter. Which is fine. Absolutely delicious south east Asian food! It seems like they mostly specialize in Lao, Thai, and Cambodian flavors here. We ordered the SEA platter, nam khao, beef laab, and kapoon. The service here is top notch, i didn't catch her name but there was this dark haired asian girl who was so kind & patient with us! The kapoon was so creamy and flavorful and I loved how tender the chicken was. Nam khao is a dish I order at every Lao restaurant and they did such a great job here! They were super generous with the nam sausage pieces as well! We got the beef larb medium rare (at recommendation of our server) and it was absolutely fire! The meat was tender and it tasted so delicious with the other dishes. The SEA platter was huge and perfect to split within 4 people. This is the only place I like my kapoon from. However, everything at Sea Hut will hit the spot. Kapoon 5/5* When they had their old sister location, Sea Bowl, their kapoon was by far my favorite out of all the places that I've ever ate kapoon. Kapoon is curry based, and most places make it too salty or too much curry flavor. This one was perfectly balanced and on the sweeter, creamier side, with more coconut milk. After they closed their sister location and only kept Sea Hut open, which only served sandwiches at the time, I was so bummed. But post pandemic, I was thrilled to find they now serve all the soups from the other location again. The kapoon slightly changed..spicier and with different noodle options and add ons such as bamboo, gizzards, or pork blood. I tried it with gizzards and it added a different texture to the soup. Overall, still my all-time favorite spot for kapoon. Nam Khao 5/5* Perfectly crunchy, perfectly seasoned with a sweet and salty fish sauce flavor that isn't too pungent or overwhelming. Nice large chunks of Nam that you can actually taste. Beef Stew 5/5* Comfort food at its best. Cambodian beef stew is almost identical to Vietnamese Bo Kho, and this one reminds me of the flavors of childhood. The broth is rich with beefy flavor from the tender chunks of meat, balanced out with sweet carrots and onions. Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich 5/5* I'm hard to please when it comes to bánh mì. Chicken, pickled papaya, spicy mayo? I was skeptical at first with the deviations from original banh mi, but this combination works so well. The lemongrass really shines through, the grilled chicken was juicy, pickled veggies are tart and abundant, and the most important part, the bread, was soft with a thin toasted crispy outer layer. I've come here countless times and have tried a variety of their menu and so far everything here is delicious. We came as a party of 2 on a Wednesday around 2PM seated and served immediately, didn't have to wait too long for our food. Theres a decent amount of seating for a small restaurant. Seemed to get busy with high schoolers as we were getting ready to leave so keep that in mind if you want to avoid a crowd. Bathrooms are available and very clean as well. We ordered 2 Kaopiek ($15.95 each) and 1 Papaya Salad ($15.95) but unfortunately didn't enjoy it as much as the sides. The Kaopiek was mostly soup, not much noodle and the Papaya Salad was quite expensive for the quantity it came with and not spicy per our server's recommendation for the spice level. We did enjoy the food a lot the last time we came but I'm not sure if the staff changed within the year, we also had a hard time getting the employees to refill our water since they were in the back most of the time. read more

This place has been on my to try list to try for a while now and today my husband and I decided to finally try it. When you first walk in it's pretty small and cute, which is expected as most Thai restaurants are small. We were seated immediately and water was brought out. The angel wings were very flavorful but my husband said it was a little too herby for him from the holy basil. It also came with a choice of 1 piece of fried cream cheese wonton or chicken egg roll. He chose the cream cheese wonton. Those are never disappointing. I got the beef larb (raw). I love raw beef larb so any Thai or Laos restaurant I go to, if they offer it I always get it to try. The flavor was more on the sour side and it wasn't bitter at all. I don't mind as I do like it a little sour too. I wasn't sure if bitter was an option as it wasn't stated in the menu. It also doesn't come with tripe which is usually traditional in larb. But it's not bad. It also came with an egg roll or cream cheese wonton. I chose the chicken roll. The egg roll was really good. I took 2 bites and gave the rest to my 2 year old. He killed it. I also ordered a side of sticky rice with the larb, which is a must! We also got Lao style papaya. Out of all the food we got, I would have to say the papaya was the best. I also love that it comes with a side of vermicelli noodles, peanuts, cabbage and fried pork skin. It was delicious. I have gotten beef laab or beef salad from other places but some, I don't even know how to describe it. Other places lacks flavor but not here! The beef laab is so flavorful! Had a chance to finally try the SEA Hut that I've heard so much about. My first item to get at any SE Asian restaurant is the kapoon. It's my reference item that I use to compare and contrast. The restaurant is cozy and probably seats about 20-30 people. It's tucked away in the older part of Elk Grove and has that quaint 80s feel. The staff was nice and told us to sit anywhere. My kapoon was very nice and came with the usual condiments, including cabbage, bean sprouts, and mint leaves. The soup was hot enough for my liking, and had that nice creamy coconut milk goodness. It wasn't spicy at all to me, which was a little disappointing compared to other fiery ones I've had. The noodles were nice and soft but not too much so. Overall I enjoyed it but it's not as good as some I've had in south sac. My companion tried the stuffed chicken wings and I tried it as well, and it was very flavorful with a nice crispy skin. The stuffing was more tastly than other's I've had in the past. Overall a good experience at SEA Hut and I'd like to come back and try more items. read more

I recently found this cute little hole-in-the-wall near old Elk Grove. I've been looking for a place in Elk Grove that makes good Southeast Asian food and this place really delivers! I usually get the Nam Khao, which is spicy, crispy fried rice. It is so aromatic and flavorful, the pieces of sausage scattered throughout provide little pockets of flavor. It also comes with mint and slices of cucumbers which are cooling, especially if you like it spicy like me. Highly recommend if you are in the area and craving Southeast Asian food. read more

When you check in on Yelp, there's a free Thai tea upon checking in. We did not ask for it because we are cutting back on sugar! The restaurant is smaller, but ample seating. Everything looked clean and in order. It's a shared parking lot, but there's plenty of parking. The people here are very nice and helpful.
