The japchae was a hearty yet light mix of glass noodles, red bell pepper, carrots, spinach, mushrooms, onions, scallions, Bulgogi with soy garlic sauce, and sesame seeds. We had a pleasant cucumber salad in place of kimchi this time. It was a refreshing mix of onions, scallions, and Korean red chili powder yet not spicy. It was great to balance the spicy tteokbokki! The delicious yet fiery tteokbokki had nice chewy rice cakes, flat fish cakes, and a couple of seaweed wrapped japchae bundles. I did a review of Bonchon when it first opened. That was quite some time ago so I thought I would give a second try. We were looking for fried Chicken but since my girlfriend has never been there we decided to get 1 x Seoul Sampler (1 x $33.99) = $33.99 1 x Soy Garlic 1 x 4 Pork Potstickers 1 x Bulgogi Fries 1 x Corn 1 x Coleslaw 1 x Kewpie Mayo Chicken: 2 drums and 4 wings (with your choice of sauce: Soy Garlic, Spicy, Korean BBQ, or Yangnyeom). Well first off my favorites were the corn and the coke slaw, potstickers just ok, and surprise the fried chicken was just ok like the bulgogi fries. So after all these words Bonchon is just ok. The chicken was fried to perfection and had the perfect combination of sweetness to spicy ratio. Had a craving for Korean fried chicken. We ordered a 9 piece soy glazed chicken and got some pickled radish on the side for to-go. Overall, the chicken was as good as I remembered it. The 9 piece came with a mix of drums and wings as we had requested. 2 of the pieces were large drumsticks. You can definitely tell it was double fried as advertised, because the batter is very crunchy. I've always liked that Bonchon doesn't make their chicken soggy/dripping with sauce. The pickled radish is very plain. It is literally just radish in vinegar, with no other seasonings. The unfortunate thing is that my husband picked it up and found that they did not pack any utensils or napkins. We found out when it was a bit too late and out of the restaurant already. I was driving around Elk Grove with my son and saw Bonchon at 8246 Laguna Blvd, Ste 370, Elk Grove, CA 95758 This is a major international food chain restaurant (see picture). The restaurant was very clean although did show signs of wear due to its age. The tables are lined up together (no separated booths) which when crowded can put customers too close together. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our server, Vivian. She was polite, professional, and helped us select from the menu. She provided Superior Service in the highest standards of excellence throughout our meal. We decided on the Seoul Sampler, which had Bulgogi Fries, Pork Potstickers, Korean Street Corn, Coleslaw. Also added Korean Donuts and Kimchi. So let's start with the food. We had the donuts as a appetizer which were hot and fresh. They were absolutely delicious and was definitely different tasting than a standard donut. I think what made it so good was the dough that was used and the way that it was cooked. The sampler then came out and I began checking different items. I was more interested in the Korean Chicken as I see it many times in K dramas that I watch. Again, it was hot, fresh, and excellent quality. It tasted different than standard fried Chicken that I am used to. It was lightly coated, fried, and you had different types of sauces on it. The Bulgogi was tender beef cooked to perfection, over seasoned French Fries. (Note-I am not a French Fry person but in this case I actually liked it). The Kimchie was excellent, though a bit spicy. Cole slaw, Korean Street Corn, and Pot Stickers were also hot and delicious. Which brings me to an issue that you need to be aware. The secret to a great meal here is it must be served hot and freshly made, which Bonchon succeeds at! Getting a to go order and eating it 20 minutes later may take away from the eating experience. I have come accustomed to order the Yum Drum Trio which gets you 3 drumsticks sauced how you'd like, fries and their donut. The donut is the star of the show for me to be completely honest though. We came around 2PM on a Thursday, just in time for their lunch specials. The deals for the specials are pretty good, but I would recommend to order off the regular menu and share the wings with a friend for a better deal. We ordered the 20 pc chicken wings (pickled radish too) with a side of seasoned fries. Unfortunately, the seasoned fries are actually more like sad Parmesan fries. I should've looked at the photos beforehand but I did not realize there was going to be parm on there so it was a 1/5 stars for me. For $7-$8, I would SKIP the seasoned fries and try the regular fries. Ranch and literally any sauce that's not ketchup is also an extra $1 which I felt like is quite steep.
