We were interested in refreshing our…read morefireplace in our modern home and had always dreamed of having a black marble fireplace instead of just white drywall. I Yelped and found Del Mar Tile and Stone and checked out photos and crossreferenced everything. He had stellar reviews everywhere. John the owner came out within a day or two (on a Sunday!) to look at the project and gave me a quote the next day. The project involved tiling on the fireplace surround and also into a cutout for our TV and the vent for the fireplace above. The quote was fair for the amount of work involved and I thought, hey if he's already there maybe get him to re-do tile in one of our bathrooms (a much smaller project)? I texted him a video and measurements of the space prior to him working on the space and he was able to quote the bathroom without coming back! Super cool. The quality of work is amazing. I am a detail-oriented, visual person and with the beautiful black marble with white veining that we chose (with a fluted pattern!) I wanted to be particular with what tiles we should use and which we should not. He was more than accommodating and we have a beautiful, beautiful fireplace now and a gorgeous bathroom. Not everybody could do this job. It was technical as a fireplace surround. The tile contractor had to use the right mortar and he had to level it out just right. As we homeowners know, rarely is your house completely true and flat and square everywhere and the tile had to be done to accommodate all of the imperfections in our visually perfect house. The corners and leveling had to be perfect. He had to carve into drywall to make the corner of the fireplace square. It was crazy and it would have taken me decades of experience to do this myself (enter John). The cutouts for the fireplace and the TV surround had to be perfect. The bathroom turned out flawless as well. John is an awesome person and was so kind and courteous to our pets (he told my dog Thatcher she was beautiful) and was respectful of other contractors we were having at the house at the same time. His son Hunter and his other employee Carlos who worked with him were conscientious, clean, and all three were just all around good people. Please see photos! They do not do the fireplace justice!

We were on a tight timeframe and they did everything they could to make it work and make sure it was done right. Precise showers recently did a project for us which…read moreincluded kitchen backsplash tile install, master bath shower replacement and tiling, and master bath backsplash tile. The master bath work is top notch, with work by his subs Hugo and Pepe absolutely outstanding. Same is true for the master backsplash, a very complicated glass tile impeccably installed. The kitchen tile is beautiful, although not up to the bathroom standard because it was done mostly by a second tile team, not yet up to the "A" team standards, but ok nonetheless. Josh, the planning and sales side of the business, is very knowledgeable on the front end but hard to contact after the project is underway. He has low tolerance for changes, shows up intermittently, and in the end just wants to be done and move on. Lisa, the business end, is cordial, but has a very short fuse. We had damage done to our bathroom walls during demo, which josh indicated might happen. But that damage cost us an additional $1300 to fix, using a contractor Lisa recommended and trusts. I expected a little damage, but not that much. Josh and Lisa were both offended when we asked if they would be willing to share part of the cost. Offended may be too mild a word. Belligerent might be a better word. So here's my advice if you use these guys. Pay very close attention. Get everything in writing. Expect significant resistance to changes or modifications. Anything that goes wrong will always, always be you fault. Based on other reviews, I expect a dramatic rebuttal to this review. If so, I will be happy to support an amazingly detailed email paper trail to support all I've said. Otherwise, let's let sleeping dogs lie. good luck everyone. Be thorough.

The other installers did not discuss the same level of detail. Since I chose tile, Travis has a subcontractor who does the install, and they were amazing. The foreman was on site the first couple of days and again during the week and the last day. Travis came by multiple times during the install. Everyone was on time, answered the phone and communication was great. I made a few last minute changes and they all worked with me through each step. The process can be really stressful for a home owner but I am so happy with the result. This will not be the cheapest quote you will get; they are more expensive than other places, but I have heard too many bad experiences and unnecessary delays from other installers. This went so smoothly and I never felt nervous about the project.

I'm an interior designer based in the Bay Area, helping my elderly parents in San Diego select new carpeting remotely, which added a layer of complexity to everything. From the very beginning, Travis and Lissie were incredibly responsive, patient, and willing to go above and beyond. They took the time to source and send multiple rounds of samples, talk through options with me, and really try to help us land on the right direction, despite not knowing me or whether the project would ultimately move forward with them. What stood out most was their professionalism and kindness. They treated the project with care and attention, even though it required extra coordination and didn't follow a typical, straightforward path. In the end, we needed someone local who could be on-site with my parents to guide the final selection in person, which wasn't a service they were positioned to provide given the distance. That said, the samples we were most drawn to aesthetically were ones Travis had sent, which speaks to how well he understood the brief. If you're in their service area and looking for a knowledgeable, honest, and genuinely helpful team, I would absolutely recommend Travis and Lissie. They are the kind of people you want to work with.
