Where do I start? I've always wanted to stop in and try this place. Sadly, I don't think there will be any repeat visit. The restaurant was 3/4 empty and I asked for a table further away from the door. The male waiter insisted we sit beside the cash after I kept asking to sit in the back. Two more request and he kept pointing at the table he wanted to give, I caved. Note, there was a whole back row of empty tables in the L shaped dining area which would be further from the windy cold day outside. Nope, I do not get it. My companion asked for eggs and bacon with another two sides of bacon, the waiter did not seem to want to take the order for the two extra sides, he said each side was 4 pieces. Yes, we understand and insisted several times before he wrote the order. I wanted the bacon and sausage poutine but if I could switch the fries for potato hash. That was a challenge. I said we'd cover any substitution fees. It was the bacon and hash with extra sausage basically. Thanks for the whole onion mixed into the hash. Onion to potato ratio 1:1. The orders didn't come at the same time. The two sides of bacon came first and some time later his meal and my meal came. Odd. It was all pretty mediocre food. Who knew breakfast could be so difficult. It didn't feel welcoming. It felt like we were annoying him. I will say the female behind the counter was nice. She topped up our coffee frequently. There were not a lot of seats in the diner. We were seated close to the entrance and constantly felt the cold breeze. Service was slow and inconsistent. Someone arrived after us was served, finished and paid before our dishes were even served. The serving place was also close to the door, causing the food to cool down and die before it was even brought to customers. I had Eggs Benedict which was too overcooked because the eggs were not really runny. Scrumptious has been in neighborhood for many years. This place is very down to earth and offers very good value all day breakfast. The staff is friendly although the service maybe a bit slow. Really could be 3.5 star, but rounding down due to absolutely nothing special. Interior is clean kept. A little bit out dated, but the brightly colored design made it acceptable. Food is ok, nothing special at all. You can probably do just as well at home. But then it's all day breakfast place, you are looking for the warm home feel. TLDR: Local gem. Honest food served by honest people. Scrumptious' store front faces Elgin Mills Road, so I cannot say it is a hidden gem, but it is a good addition to the local dining scene. It looks run down, even sketchy, on the outside. I didn't visited for a long while for this reason. But it was my loss. What Scrumptious lacks in exterior appeal, it makes it up with portion and friendly services. Business was buzzing with a waiting line the day I visited. Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning at 10AM. Upon arrival, staff immediately greeted us and showed us to a table, and it wasn't too busy, about 3-4 other tables with plenty of seating. Staff were quick to bring over our menus. My party ordered the smoked salmon bennys, big breakfast, and the sausage and egg sandwich. These dishes were good and well worth the prices! The portions were filling as well. Only downside for me were the home fries. I wish the home fries were crispier and fried more since they were too soft. The restaurant and seating is very spacious and gives you a diner-like feel to it. The menu is big with lots of choices to choose from! We had lunch here yesterday. All though they are listed as all day breakfasts they do have burgers as well. I had Peameal on a bun. There were 4 slices of peameal on the bun. I bet you've seen enough movies with scenes showing a trucker making a pit stop at a greasy spoon diner. That's the type of place Scrumptious reminds me of. Just picture, instead of a middle aged lady with a southern accent greeting me, replace that with a middle age Chinese lady who speaks Cantonese. While Hollywood is slowly becoming more diverse, to some degree it does feel like a miscast for the diner lady with a few lines here. Kidding aside, I think Scrumptious does a good job of offering your typical North American breakfast, serving the staples like eggs, bacon, ham, home fries, pancakes at value prices. Nothing really stuck out, but also nothing disappointed me. They also have kids meal where my kids ended up ordering chocolate chip pancakes. The kids pancakes were not the super fluffy kind, but were loaded with chocolate chips. The owner was also quite friendly and was able to engage my kids. However, (even though I didn't personally experienced it) service could be a tad slow as I saw a single lady customer who was neglected a bit. If it were up to me and if I feel like all day breakfast again, I'd probably support a place like Scrumptious as opposed to a large chain like Cora's or Egg Smart. read more

Before I begin I would implore any establishment not to betray a fundamental rule of basic hygiene . A sign of respect for your customers is to ensure that the silverware is wiped and clean. The second is to honestly convey the product as described in the menu or place a requisite photo of the product. Spoons in coffee: if we are going to be bold and place a spoon in the small coffee cup, please avoid placing a spoon that is filthy and crusted with food. Some people do not place sugar in the coffee, just serve the coffee on a small dish. In my years, I have never beenade more I'll than the sight of a crusted spoon, filthy in a cup of coffee. Why, o Lord why can an establishment not respect it's customers than not to wipe a spoo. Omelette. Ok, a smoked salmon omelette sounds interesting, but what I saw was an omelette with slices of salmon lazily placed in the omeltte, not within. Basically a plain omeltte with salty salmon and aged provolone for a salt bomb. Not to mention undergone potatoes and a broken hollandaise sauce on the Benny. Prices do not appear to reflect the quality of foodstuffs or service from the lovely family whom operate the restaurant. Loved this place that open early in the morning at 7:30am! I arrived right at 7:30am and owners arrived. I got seated and took them some time to prepare which was ok as I had a good chat with my friend. The price was very reasonable for such the breakfast. It was wonderful to see the usual breakfast that is under $10 and full plate of food! Refillable coffee. The staff there were very nice . There is a lot of parking. Happened to be in the area so stopped in for brunch this Saturday afternoon, with hubby after reading good reviews. I want to give 3.5 stars but it isn't an option. 3 seems a tad low but 4 seems just a touch higher than what we experienced so 3 it is. I would go back and I would recommend them, I'd just say manage expectations accordingly. It's indie mom and pop style, not a chain, not without flaws but also not bad. It is a good option. Summary: Service is hit and miss. Food is decent to tasty. The friendly servers are super friendly. Not all are. But those who are make up for it. Here's the breakdown: The place is on the small side and was nearly full but we got a table and had menus quickly. Our server wasn't the most warm and welcoming so not the best first impression - - he just dropped menus/cutlery on our table without so much as a hello or any eye contact and kept walking. But, he seemed polite enough and smiled quietly when taking our order. Just very short on words although he was very chatty with someone who came in that he knew - so much that I couldn't get his attention to get a coffee refill. I waited five or ten minutes then got up to ask for it myself at the counter. When I got up for that coffee top up I was met by smiles and courteous service from other staff and it was done right away. Our server forgot about my husband's "side" pancakes (which hubby specifically asked for ahead of the rest of his meal) but got them out quickly once reminded, although by this point we were finished so it was more like a dessert (which was okay just not what was requested). 10 min later we wanted water but our server had disappeared again so I waved to someone behind the counter (who was super friendly) to get it. Our server brought it over. Food was tasty, fresh and made to order. Preparation and plating was quite good (see my photo). Portions are bigger than what the menu implies and the home fries are the best of any greasy spoon or brunch/breakfast place we've tried in the central North GTA. Seasoned nicely and fried crispy golden brown. We both had eggs benedict and hungry hubby also had the (late) "side" of chocolate chip pancakes (not pictured). Benedict was really tasty. Happy to see they butter the English muffin here in the benedict. Some don't but I always prefer it buttered. Yes even with hollandaise and a runny yolk. Pancakes are good but not the highlight. We prefer them bigger, fluffier and thicker. Still, really good - - I mean, they're pancakes. Haven't met one I didn't like. Would be nicer if they offered a Syrup bottle on the table vs. pre-measured amount in 2 little side cups. You may want more. Also real maple syrup option (even for $1 more or something) or at least a better quality pretend maple syrup (like a Mrs. Butterworths) would be better, but just our preference. Theirs is very artificially sweet tasting. A really bubbly waitress had taken over by the time we were just about heading out. She had a warm smile for every table as she asked if they each needed drink refills or a coffee top up. Nice to see. When we paid at the counter, she processed our payment with a big smile and a really friendly attitude that had us leave with a good feeling about the experience where we may otherwise have left thinking "good food, mediocre service." This was our first visit. All in all we would go back for the home fries and to maybe try some of the other interesting looking menu items (or benedict again!). If you're tired of the mass franchise chains, try these guys. As someone else said, support local business! Really this place deserves 3.5 stars, not just a 3, but a little more work is needed to get a 4+ from me. read more

Very busy place, seated in 1 min but waited 30 mins for food to come to the table. I was really hungry at that time, so the food tasted extraordinarily well. The only thing not good is that they are under staffed, the waiter is always running to try to complete all the tasks. He was quite rushing when taking the order, but polite and trying his best. The fruit is very unfresh and home fries were undercooked, lack of flavor. We are not sure if we will come back in some point of future time. read more

This place is great and I think one of the better diner-style, non chain in Richmond Hill. Price point - pretty good - the pricing is cheaper than Sunset Grill and I think you do get more bang for your dollar here. The kids meals are a great bargain if you have kids - $4.99 and is a lot of food. Drinks are ordered a la carte and coffee is free refills; once again nothing fancy. Service is ok; but I find it is slower on Stat holidays - when they are understaffed. Food quality - it is a wonderful surprise. I have usually ordered their peameal Eggs Benedict - and it is just enough food with home fries and some fruit. It isn't fancy - but they do an excellent job. The Eggs are usually just how I prefer it between slightly runny and firm. Their standard breakfast is good and they serve give 4 hog dog length size sausages and this is my husband's standard order. He is always very happy with it and says it is too much food; however inevitably he finishes it. Tip: their lot is a private lot, so trying to cut through the Wimpy's diner won't work. read more

Pretty disappointing brunch... We went in around 11AM on the weekend. Due to covid, they don't provide menus...which makes sense but we weren't told until we saw other people walking to a table/wall where the menus were so we just followed. On top of that, we waited so long after calling our waiter to take our order...They were pretty busy during this time but overall the service is quite poor... The food wasn't great. This place is a hidden gem off the corner of Elgin Mills and Bayview. We ordered the breakfast burger which was very flavorful and huge in terms of portions. The Eggs Benedict that i ordered had 3 eggs for the 2 Bennys so that was a bonus. The only think that disappointing me was that the Benny had a SOLID yolk rather than the soft liquidy goodness i was expecting. But alas it was still a good eggs benny. The banana pancakes we also very flavorful and good value. Service-wise is lacking, we had to ask twice in order to get our menus after getting seated and also our waters were never refilled without having to ask. Getting the bill was also annoying as there was only one waiter servicing the whole restaurant and it took over an additional 10 mins before we were able to pay and leave. I couldn't give them 5 stars cause I was shocked when I was paying for my bill. They charge $2 for just tap water. They didn't warn us in the beginning otherwise we would of ordered some drinks. Also, the ventilation isn't that good, maybe because it's a small restaurant. My hair and clothes kinda stink afterwards. But... Lots of parking here. As I came into the restaurant, the waitress and the owner greeted me and my husband with a smile and a warm greeting, "Good Morning". It is really an early morning at 7-ish am since we are still suffering from our jet lag. I feel like sitting in a cafe inside a hotel. Perhaps the music allows me to feel relaxed. We are the only customers in the restaurant, probably we came too early on a Sunday morning. An interesting thing is I see the ‍ chef shaved a batman icon at the back of his head. My husband and I ordered an Egg Benedict with Montreal Smoked Meat to share. The presentation looks awesome. When I cut the benedict, I could see melted cheese in between the smoked meat. The Montreal smoked meat is really outstanding from the benedict. The eggs are soft, when I cut the eggs, the egg yolks spills out and runs through the smoked meat. The fries, one of the sides, tastes crispy. It also comes with a slice of orange and a slice of cantaloupe. Customers are starting to come in at 7:15. Food is good and customer service is excellent. I really love this little diner. It's a family owned business and the owners are very friendly. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are huge. They have real freshly squeezed orange juice (not the fake stuff that other local places charge an arm and a leg for) and the coffee is really good (which is really important to me). They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner but I have only eaten breakfast there so far. I love that they don't charge extra for turkey bacon. The bacon and eggs were good but the strawberry and banana pancakes which I had on my first visit were amazing with lots of fresh fruit on top. The place is bright, cheerful and clean. Just what the star rating I've rated suggests: I've experiences better. Went out to this place and right off the bat the staff were friendly. It took them awhile to bring us our menus and our bill when we asked for it. My friend's and I went around noon...it was not busy. Maybe 5-6 tables at most were occupied. If you're feeling lazy and want some eggs, sure, this place can do that for you. But seeing as I can make some regular ole eggs or an omelette at home, I wanted to order something more "extravagant". Our table felt that the sausages were too salty, fatty, and oily. But hey, if that's what you're looking for especially after a rough night, go for it! We were quite disappointed by their potatoes that came on the side of practically everything. They were just you're plain jane potatoes. Nothing fancy. I got some mushroom and spinach bennies. Pretty good for average stuff. If I was served this at someone's home, they'd be good. But for a restaurant, I expected better. The hollandaise sauce....well, if you don't like mayo, I wouldn't suggest getting a benny. Lastly, the pancakes. We ordered some blueberry pancakes which came out very "golden brown" ...borderline burnt. And they still served them to us. I've added a picture of our meals here. The blueberries were very sour, but I guess it's not blueberry season? Overall, we were not a huge fan of this place and would most likely not come again. Mostly because we have a few better brunch places closer to us. There's a really good, small family owned brunch joint in Unionville on Hwy 7 if people would like to give it a go. Cheaper prices than here and their potatoes are AMAZING. The best potatoes at a brunch joint I've had thus far and for the price? You can't go wrong.
