Just coming back from having brunch at this place. It's the first time I feel like I've been tricked by false reviews here to try a place! I can only think the positive reviews must be from people who know the owners maybe? First I have to say that the lady who served us was super nice and friendly, the place was clean although very tired. But the food! OMG the food. We got Swiss and mushroom omelette. The egg tasted like nothing, we had to add salt and pepper and the cheese was very rubbery and like plastic. It came with super underdone potatoes, so bad that my partner had just a bite and didn't eat it. I got Nutella French toast which looked delicious but it wasn't French toast. It was just toast dripped with chocolate and syrup and mushy strawberries and bananas. Basically they made it so sweet to cover the fact that the fruit wasn't fresh and the toast wasn't really French toast. So, let me start by saying that I was looking for a diner that was close by to me at the time, that I had not been to before, which led me here. The reviews were mostly good and the really bad one I was willing to chalk up to a one off bad day. I can only review the omelette that I had as I was alone this day and let me tell you it definitely didn't disappoint. With the rising cost of dining out these days, there has to be something said about a place that makes you feel like you've gotten value for what you've paid for. The Omelettes are a la carte with one fixed price which in itself is novel because you always pay more for more meat in most places. Here, the realization that there is only so much you can stuff into an omelette, so name your items and they'll put it in, for one fixed price (3 items and a surcharge for every additional item). Because of the fixed price I wasn't sure what size of an omelette I would be getting but I have to say this was probably one of the largest omelette's I have have ever had at a diner. It was massive in size and was full of the items ordered. This omelette was worth every dollar spent and made me feel like I was getting more than what I paid for. That alone is worth coming back for. The coffee was no worse than any other diner and was definitely not bad, which leads to my next topic, the service. Never had to look up (I was reading a book) or ask., whenever my cup was empty it got filled. My server was extremely pleasant and knew what she was doing. The ambiance is definitely nothing to write home about but the place is clean the service is good and the food was excellent. If you hit all of those marks ambiance isn't really required in a diner. Very solid breakfast food. Good price. Decent selection of options. Fast and attentive service. Sunshine Spot is definitely not the most refined breakfast diner in the neighborhood but it offered me the most relaxed experience no other diners ever managed to deliver on a weekend. It is not a restaurant I would pick out for a special occasion, but one that I would gladly return to for some hassle-free breakfast on a Sunday morning. There will always be seats available even during peak hours on a weekend so I don't have to "plan my trip" like I have to with other diners. I can show up whenever I want and be guaranteed zero wait time, fast attentive service and decent quality food. Unlike other more popular diners, I don't have to tolerate the sound of screaming/crying toddlers or the aggregate chatters of other patrons in the background. I also don't feel pressured to leave the moment I'm done eating to clear seats for the growing wait line. We had their Super 8, breakfast skillet and banana pecan waffles. Food portion was very generous. I liked their meaty food better than their sweet-profiled ones, and thought that the waffle could afford to be a bit crunchier. The server was always around to refill our coffees. The perpetual empty seats aren't a reflection of the quality of food, but a reflection of branding. If you're too lazy to make your own breakfast and you are craving eggs, potatoes, pancakes, toast, waffles, and fruits, then this is your joint. Will you get a spectacular breakfast? Not quite. The food was overwhelmingly under seasoned. We had to add salt and pepper to our eggs and potatoes. Nonetheless, at least the meal was cooked right; I ordered over-easy eggs and the eggs did come out with a watery center. Many of their menu items contain meat and they won't allow you to sub your meat for a vegetable option (like mushrooms or tomatoes), even though the vegetable option is a lot cheaper than the meat. Although they do allow you to substitute your meat in the eggs benedict to smoked salmon, they won't allow you to do that in their other menu items, which I find hard to understand why the eggs benedict are the only exception. Service was decent, the waitress was kind in taking our order and serving out group--we had about 8 of us and she was patient. Service is good. They were busy when we arrived so we ended up with a seat by the door which was comfortable but tight for four. They have a convenient location just off the highway, making it a good spot for breakfast before hitting the road out of town. The food here is generally good. We tried the eggs benedict (with smoked salmon!) and the breakfast taco. The portion sizes were quite large and the hollandaise sauce was deliciously thick and creamy. I wish they were a bit more generous with the breakfast taco, as they are in the display picture (heaping amounts of salsa, and lots of filling) but it's close enough to be passable. No WiFi here. My friend ordered "The Greens' Egg White Omelette" On the menu below all the Omelettes it states "All omelettes served with toast and home fries" however when the waitress took our order she told us that the omelette my friend ordered didn't get toast and home fries. We were here for breakfast on a recent Sunday, and at 10:30am it was about half full. I'd recommend making reservations if you are more than 4 people as it seems that most of their tables are for 2. They have all your basics for breakfast, from waffles to eggs benedict to omelettes to breakfast sandwiches and classic combos. They also have a selection of sandwiches and paninis as well as a small kid's menu. I was able to order a kid's meal for my daughter as we sat down, and it came out very quickly afterwards (they forgot her milk though and I didn't realize that until we left). She enjoyed the deep-fried sausage and fruit immensely. Our table ordered a variety of eats and all of them were good. The omelettes are huge and stuffed full of ingredients. Yummy homefries. I had a BLT with a side of fruit instead of fries (can swap out for a number of healthier items, for a small fee of course). The BLT was simple but delicious - crispy bacon done in the way that only a diner can make it, crunchy lettuce, fresh tomato, a perfect amount of mayonnaise, your choice of white or brown bread. I got to try the Western sandwich as well, which is basically an omelette between two slices of bread. Wait staff were very friendly and generally quick to respond despite being busy. I don't get it. Why does this place get such awesome reviews? Maybe things have changed a lot since the positive, 4-5 star ratings were made. When we first arrived, I actually overheard the table next to us exclaim that the menu and the food had changed so much since they had last dropped in ~7 months ago. Having received a Buy 1 Get 1 Free (with a mandatory drink purchase) coupon in my mailbox, the hubs and I decided to come here for brunch. We both ordered the Eggs Benny. I ordered mine with a small glass of fresh-pressed orange juice plus an extra side of hollandaise (y'know, as a shooter, the way normal people do - heh heh) and the asked for regular bacon and a coffee. Replacing the peameal bacon with the regular streaky type came at no extra cost, but the hollandaise costs an extra $1.99 served in one of those small metal cups that often holds melted butter for lobsters. If you substitute the bacon for spinach, smoked salmon, or other protein, it will cost an additional $1.99. My orange juice was alright, it wasn't very sweet - maybe it's not orange season yet? Forgivable, given that I don't expect produce to be perfect, but I do wish it were served cold rather than tepid. The hollandaise sauce didn't really taste like much of anything, and I'm pretty sure it came out of a can rather than being house-made. The English muffins are served untoasted, so you'll have to ask for them to be toasted in advance if you prefer them that way. Potatoes were OK, grilled to a crispy brown on one side but seems like they didn't have enough time to flip it over to the other, totally ungrilled side. On the plus, the hubs' eggs were served pretty perfectly poached. At the end of our meal, we went to pay the bill and was mischarged 3 times - the cashier kept cancelling and re-entering the order, charging for a large size orange juice ($4.99) rather than a small ($2.99). In the end, she ended up still cancelling the small orange juice and punching in a large again. We didn't realize it until we had left, but given that she had forgotten to charge us for the extra hollandaise we were only overcharged by $1 so didn't bother going back in. It's a really convenient location for those of us in the Willowdale area and the price points are quite reasonable, with the most expensive breakfast item topping at $12.99. If you have 2 for 1 meal coupon, your meal with a drink will cost about $10 which is pretty good considering that's what you'd end up paying even at fast food places. All in all I'd come back again for convenience, but if you're in the mood for some serious brunching I still prefer the downtown area. read more

I find they also offer a lot of variety within those items. They have about 10 varieties of eggs benedict and omelets. There's a good amount of breakfast platters and some specialties as well. The prices are pretty good across the board. I would of liked at least a coffee or tea included but at the prices, I can't complain. I do have to mention that the home fries here are not deep fried in oil. They are put on the grill and made there. I think they're much better this way so points for this!! My only small nitpick is the price of the drinks relative to portion. For stuff like juice and milk, the could give you a bigger glass. Small thing, but something to mention. The staff are always pretty nice when I come. I have never had a bad service related incident here in the many visits I have had in the past. They were pretty accommodating when it came to my little one. I haven't been there since we had our second, but I have no doubt they will be just as good when we go with both. The place has plenty of seats but I find during the cold months if you sit it the back, it's pretty drafty and for people who don't like the cold too much,you might have to put back on your jacket. It was exactly what I wanted. The waitress was incredibly accommodating, so that was a huge plus. My breakfast: The eggs still needed another minute. The clear jelly-like material around the yolk should be cooked through before serving. Other than that, the breakfast was good. Simple, but it did the job for $8.99. Won't be back anymore. Last couple times have been a disappointment. Every time I order the Eggs Benedict, it seems like they lose most of the egg whites in the water (not great at poaching eggs). This time my omelette was burnt and so were my girlfriend's "over medium" eggs. Trying to get more milk for her tea was a chore (as the servers were standing around talking to each other even after we asked for more milk). Had to walk up to the counter to get it. $2 to add about a tablespoon of tomatoes to an omelette?? Please. I felt upset paying for the damn bill. This is my go to brunch place. The portions are huge and the servers are so friendly. They always top up your coffee constantly. Portions are generous, you will leave feeling incredibly full. They have turkey bacon and egg whites only which I found isn't too common with breakfast places. Their service is fast too. Been coming for years and you can tell many of their regulars are locals in the neighborhood. read more
