A temple on the new glasses started going askew about 2 weeks later so I ventured back to Martin's, at my wife's suggestion, to seek a swap-out--the askewed glasses for an identical replacement pair. No go without the receipt, cashier said. When I pointed out that I obviously also had the glasses pouch from the purchase--perhaps a sign I'd bought the glasses there--the cashier didn't engage; he went silent, staring into his big screen. They didn't consider me a customer because I last filled a prescription three months ago. I became the bottom priority. I had called earlier that day around 2 pm and was told that they had enough to fill the prescription. Two hours later I was called to say their supply ran out. That was hard to believe. The Pharm tech told me she understood and was on the same med and she couldn't get hers refilled. Again, hard to believe. I was a regular customer in the past and do my vaccines there. I explained that I'm going out of town and need to take care of my nephew who is in hospice. I won't go there again. It's like having to join a country club to get a prescription filled.

He was restless, kept trying to get up and run away. I broke my heart because I kept having to restrain him. We finally called the caregivers early the next morning. Through no fault of her own she had trouble finding the place. That day was so foggy I think London would have been proud. Once sh got there and saw what was happening, she asked us why we didn't call them. We didn't know we should've. But she was great! She ran my Mom and me off, and in ten minutes he was resting comfortably. She told us we could have upped the morphine dose. We didn't know that either. I suppose all of that should have been explained to us somewhere along the way. Maybe they told my Mom and it didn't take. Other than that they were good.

Sara Tucker, our care manager, was efficient, kind, perceptive, and thoughtful. Nanci Kahn, a nurse at Senior Services of Austin, was also very helpful and compassionate. My dad and I worked extensively with Sara and Nanci for over two years, and I don't know how we would have managed without their help. They helped coordinate my dad's move and make sure he was safe in his new apartment, and helped us manage medication challenges, navigate difficult hospital and rehab stays, and plan next steps after discharge. They advised us (always in a non-judgmental and not pushy way) when we weren't sure what to do and offered us logistical and practical support. At a time when we really needed help, they were the best support system we could have asked for. I was also glad that the owner of the company, Ariel Goward, was on call to help when Sara wasn't available. I highly recommend Senior Services of Austin to anyone needing assistance with issues related to caring for an aging family member.

Last year I was told a style of pants and shirts I needed were backordered by the company. I called that company and got the items even cheaper. They were not too pleased galls was telling customers their product was backordered when they were not. Save yourself a headache shop elsewhere.
