Mushroom and Swiss burger it was massive. It was just a thing of beauty to eat. Toasted bun. Just simple they do a really nice ribeye there too under 20 bucks with a baked potato. It's old building but the food is the bomb. read more

Don't the let exterior fool you. Great friendly service and killer food. True southern hospitality. I walked in and was immediately greeted by everyone. I haven't had chicken liver in a long time and I never see it on menus so I was very excited to have it here. The chocolate brownie was also really decadent and delicious. read more

What an amazing meal!!! When we walked into this place we were greeted warmly by our server, Shannon, who proceeded to tell us all about the days specials and then answered all of our questions (which were many) with enthusiasm and a smile! It's great to be around someone who loves what they do. We started off with the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. My children and husband hadn't ever had the tomatoes before but were willing to take the chance and they were glad they did, much to their surprise. And the horseradish sauce that came with it was soo good. Then came the main course! My husband and I got the Gumbo that came with a huge wedge of cornbread - while the cornbread was a bit dry, the Gumbo was to die for. They do not skimp on the portions here either. Both of my girls got the chicken fried steak and felt like it was breaded perfectly and tasted great. One of my daughters got the Mac & cheese and she felt like the noodles were cooked just right and it was really cheesy (in a not-silly way). My son had the Chicken Dickens and, since he's a teenager, he wouldn't really say much about his food but the fact that he ate it all spoke for itself. Even though he is a growing boy and seems to be hungry quite often, he won't eat something if he doesn't like it. So it must have been good food, not just hunger, that Chad him cleaning his plate. I highly recommend eating at Scrooge's. If we make it back through Jackson again I'm going to try the Red Beans and Rice. I've read other reviews about it and it sounds delicious. read more

Our server, Harmonie, was outstanding, attentive and was willing to accommodate, anticipating our every wish and questions! She is a "people person". We had happy hour $3 for well drinks, $6.50 for call drinks. Incredible 1/2 dozen oysters, (including house salad) sweet and creamy delicious oysters , a "small" order red beans and rice (no sausage) rice al dente, beans seasoned to perfection, 2" high corn bread (crusty on outside, fluffy inside), twice baked cheese potato, and chocolate chess pie (homemade by still cooking previous owner along with her daily homemade soups). Excellent food. A bit upper scale on the standard pub fare, with a fairly broad menu offering a little of everything. Wife had a French dip sandwich and I had the burger, both with fries. Excellent on both counts. Will try some of their other offerings next time we are in the area. read more

The place in Clinton has been open less than a month, so disregard the reviews from several months ago, must be a different place. I got the redfish wrap. The fish was huge and perfectly cooked. The comeback sauce was great. Family enjoyed their meal also. I hope Clinton appreciates a quality Greek restaurant. Also, there were several local craft beers on tap, lots of good appetizers, and plenty of employees on hand. We went early (5:00) to avoid the crowd since they just opened a few weeks ago. This was a strange experience. First off, if you're not careful, you'll miss the place. It's behind a run down former restaurant of some kind. When you walk in, you wouldn't know it, but the bar area is through another door straight ahead - completely unmarked. The restaurant area is to the right. Freshly painted, except for one soiled ceiling tile. The place looks temporary, not like a restaurant that has been in business for some time. It's a Tuesday night, but I'm only the second table occupied, so as soon as the table of 7 leaves, it's just me. I had the Redfish special (topped with an unappetizing crawfish sauce), grilled lemon spinach (which was good), grilled new potatoes (OK) and hush puppies (my choice over Italian bread or cornbread). Overall, it was okay, but I only finished the spinach and I'm usually a member of the clean plate award. They did have a couple of craft brews on special for $2. A Lazy Magnolia Reb Ale and a Velvet Rooster Belgian Style Tripel. read more

We stopped in to try this Restaurant on our way from Missouri to Florida. We were looking for a nice place to stop and have a good lunch. We got there soon after they opened, so we were seated right away. Not sure what to order, my Aunt asked the Waitress for her recommendations. She was right on with her suggestions. I had the Gumbo and was VERY impressed with the flavor. It was a large serving and very filling! Also ordered at our table was the Chicken Dickens sandwich x 2. It looked ABSOLUTELY delicious and I was told it was! It was a HUGE Chicken breast with bacon and cheese. I recommend this place to anyone looking for some good home cooking! Service was also GREAT! My Mom left her coat in the restaurant and the Server and another employee came sprinting out with it as we were driving away. We will certainly stop here every time we come through Jackson, MS from now on! read more

Not so kind or professional dining experience on yesterday June 25, 2021. I received better service at The Cracker Barrel on today. Char did not treat me with the highest degree of respect and integrity. I had straws tossed on my table, my champagne served from the bucket in the chair beside me and was asked if I could pay my bill before I finished my meal because the attending person wanted to go home. Char do better! Staff sensitivity training is needed in my opinion. Your service does not compliment the chefs' fare. read more

Ok, let me tell you what if you get to Jackson Mississippi you bring yourself to Scrooge's! This is American comfort food. I had the loaded cheeseburger, I had them hold the mushroom gravy. Julie had a New York strip steak, she ate it like it was on fire. She also had the twice baked potato, said it was the creamiest she had ever had. They have TVs with closed caption. The place is set up open, roomy, the lighting is intimate and the booths are nice. Our waitress Mel was just great. It was like we've eaten here all our lives. The server Andrew was great. He was knowledgeable about the food and it's preparation. He made some spot on recommendations. Fried mushrooms were unbelievable. Perfectly done. Not pre-breaded or frozen. Freshly made from fresh mushrooms. Crab cakes with vegetables and red beans ,rice and sausage extraordinary. We were just driving through Jackson and used Yelp to find this gem. We almost thought they were out of business because they abut a closed business. But do go around the building past "Ebenezer" way and you will be amazed. Cooks have been around over two decades and bring the food out to you. I just went to Scrooges for the first time and it's already on my list for the next time I am in Jackson. It really feels like a locals spot and the delicious southern food is so so good. We ordered the fried jalapenos (with a side of remoulade sauce) as an appetizer and I had the chicken fried steak as my entree. Both were really good. Pro-tip: eat in the bar area (door to your left when you walk in) vs. the dining room. It feels more fun! There is a big parking lot with plenty of spots. read more

Ok, this is an old, tried-and-true blueplate restaurant with an attached watering hole bar. IMO, one of the better hamburgers in town, but you can get much more off of their varied menu. Steak, tilapia (or redfish when available), liver and onions, fried chicken livers (a specialty), Mexican salad, and more. Haven't eaten here in years and it was Excellent !!! Veggies and cornbread tasted like my mother used to serve !!! Blackened Tilapia was superb !! Husband enjoyed chicken supreme & cheese biscuits too !! We will definitely be back (probably on Friday on beef tips over rice!). Another visit -- another great experience ! 10-10-17. Best hamburger in MS. The beef council of MS gives awards, but they are beef promoters, not food critics. I travelled to Columbia this year to eat their choice of best hamburger and got the driest burger in MS. When I asked the U House person n to cook my burger medium rare, she said the health law says it had to be cooked well done. What a poor, misinformed idiot! That's the company the MS Beef Council keeps when giving awards. Scrooge's burger is a wonderful, old-fashioned experience that can be cooked anyway you want it. In town for work and looking for something not a chain restaurant. Quick yelp search landed me here and I was not disappointed. Wanted a southern meat and two plate and decided on the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and greens. The hamburger had delicious grilled onions and gravy-perfect with the mashed potatoes- and the greens were seasoned wonderfully. Even had pepper sauce on the table! I went by to eat and sat at the bar. Was there 7-8 minutes before anyone took my drink order and the worst part of it all was that they ran my debit card twice. I tried to speak with the bartender about it & she said she would get her manager and then never seen anyone. Was told it would be corrected. The next day it was ran again for 3rd time. I went back to confront them & they acted as if it was a glitch. I had to cancel my card. I showed them & my bank the one receipt I had but was charged 3 times. Do not pay with a card. This is our neighborhood bar and restaurant. All staff and patrons are incredibly nice. We are mostly in the bar area and attend Happy Hour often. Well drinks are $3.00, that's not a typo. Harmony and Chris pour mean drinks. I can't even do the food justice. It is the most incredible upscale pub menu I know of, and we know pubs! I compare it to Monsour's at the Biscuit Company in Vicksburg if you know that one. If you don't, go when you are there. Eddie will treat you good. The beer is cold and comes with complimentary Koozie...if you ask. My wife loves the burger, I love the hamburger steak. Go! read more
