We are at a convention at the fairgrounds and my dietary allergies make it interesting to find good food that I can actually eat and especially in a place that my husband can enjoy himself as well and we found that here - and all within a short walk. Best grinder I've had in awhile. I had the salami which came toasted. Nice big sandwich and all the flavors went well together. Chill atmosphere, but definitely not a place for large parties. Small space, biggest tables sat 4. Nice little outside patio in the back. Bathroom was clean and smelled good. Prices were great - $13 for a sandwich that was big enough that I couldn't finish it. Went here today for the first time, friends recommended it and the food was so dang good. Husband had a Cubano, he loved it. It was piled high with a few different kinds of pork. Turkey pesto sandwich for me and it was best one I ever had. Even the lettuce was flavorful! They dress it with a vinaigrette before adding it to your sandwich. We had flat bread appetizers and they were also amazing. Relaxing neighborhood gathering place type of atmosphere. Super friendly staff and made excellent drinks for us. The building reminds me of a little corner store you would of seen in the early 60's. It's charming and cozy. We are from out of town and stopped in for lunch. Old house in old neighborhood, kind of funky. We split a deli San (Jeter). It had lots of meat and veggies. The bun was delish. Very good value. Washed it down with a Pfriem polsner. Owner is a really good guy and helpful. read more

It's easy to drive right by if you didn't know it was there. A co- worker told me about it and said to check it out. It's an old house converted into a deli/bistro that has a lot of character. We went on a drizzly Saturday afternoon , I had the Italian beef sandwich and my wife had the turkey club grinder plus we split a cup of soup, a beer and a glass of wine. So good! It is honestly ridiculous how good this place is. They make the best sandwiches in town hands down, friendly staff, good environment, a cute little backyard/beer garden, and four TVs inside for any sports you want. The Turn and the Jeter are my favorites. A little bit pricey, but so worth it for what you're getting. Also, on Friday evenings they make the best ribs you'll ever have along with a savory bread pudding and jalapeño creamed corn, I'm drooling just thinking about this. I've been meaning to eat here for a while. Wish I hadn't waited so long. I had the Jeter which has capicola, soprasetta, and I think it was salami, all sliced super thin and piled high. The bread was delightful and even though the sandwich travelled from the restaurant to my work, it didn't turn out soggy at all. Also had the potato salad. I've never thought to put radishes in potato salad but it totally worked. Can't wait to go hang out and enjoy a sandwich and cocktails there sometime in the afternoon and actually eat in. This is the type of place it's easy to drive right by. Don't! Even after my neighbor said they're the best sandwiches in Eugene, it took me awhile to get here. My bad. Walking in there's a "nice local joint" feel to this storefront diner -small bar, old wooden cooler, a few tables and nice light. Very friendly, lots of locals, and good food. There's some interesting small plates, salads and about a dozen sandwiches. We've tried the Reuben and the hot pastrami, both excellent, moist and flavorful. (the hot Italian combo is their biggest seller; next time!) Served on a soft challah-like roll that really complements the filling. A couple of tvs and a few nice beers might make this a good alternative place to catch games, we watched the Masters while munching contentedly. read more

This cute little spot is very close to where I live, so I find myself here often. The sandwiches are awesome, I've had the spicy sausage, the Italian, and a few of their specials. Yesterday it was the JackHAMmer with ghost pepper mustard. SOOOOO good and spicy! (I love spicy food) The staff is friendly and you can tell they put a lot of love into the food they make. The people here are so friendly. And were very helpful to navigate the gluten free options. Small but quaint building. The appetizer was yummy and great portions. I had the philly steak and the meat was so was very dry, I would have liked the cheese sauce to be thicker, it was very runny so it did not coat the meat at all. I was really craving a juicy sandwich. The ham and cheese bread pudding was to die for though. I will go back just for another bite of that. Over all it was a great experience. If they were in Portland there would be a half hour wait when the doors opened but they are in Eugene which seldom supports good places (preferences tend to large and cheep). I've theirs the meatball, philly and hot Italian and all have been very good with the hot Italian barely beating out the rest. The staff was really friendly and the drink was okay but the food was really bad. It was overpriced for what it was (lunch meat) and tasted really bland. My husband and I both ended up only eating half our sandwich and had upset stomachs the rest of the night. It's a good idea for the area but with so much competition with sandwiches in this town, if that's all you're going to do it needs to be done well. A lot more effort needs to be put in with the quality of ingredients, even the sautéed onions on our sandwiches tasted like nothing. Had a fantastic first experience here. We just moved to Eugene and this was our first family trip out with grandma and grandpa who already love it here for the gluten free food and of course Penny! The service was excellent. Our server brought over a high chair for our son and wiped it down which we really appreciated and she took care to place thing out of his reach on the table. The food was excellent. I really wanted a Jeter, but as a Red Sox fan ordered The Turn. I recommend it. Folks at our table really enjoyed the Reuben and the tuna salad. Penny the dog was so sweet with our son who is just over a year old. She was very gentle and full of kisses and our kid even got comfortable enough to pat her after a few minutes. Great neighborhood deli! Love the small space and cozy bar. I've only tried three sandwiches so far but each one has blown my mind. Also great potato salad and beer selection. I've been here as a solo diner, on a date and with kids. Lunch, dinner or just a drink, you're going to love the feel of this place. The food can seem pricey as far as sandwiches go, but obviously great, high quality ingredients, especially the meats. I had a delicious, delicious sandwich at Scribles. The bread is wonderful - soft and rich and a little bit sweet. The meat is good too, and this is coming from someone who doesn't generally like meat. (On that note, they are fairly lacking in vegetarian options, except for one fried green tomato sandwich. I hope they add a vegetarian option with protein, or at least put a good cheese sandwich on the menu.) It's an order-at-the-counter place, and service was very friendly. They have a great little shelving unit of toys that made my toddler very happy. It's called "Bistro and Deli" but it's really a deli at this point. I hope they will expand with some soup options and maybe other things too, since I really enjoyed the place but I'm not always in the mood for a big sandwich. read more

Tried Scribles for the first time tonight and really wish I'd gone sooner. The place has a nice, neighborhood vibe, even though I just got a couple sandwiches to go. As for those sandwiches... awesome. They're made with really fresh, high quality meats, cheeses and veggies, on good Italian bread, and with good sides (an especially damn good kosher dill spear... when it's done right, it's great; their's are great). And they toast the sandwich, too. Looks like a pretty solid draft beer lineup, as well, though I didn't have a pint this time... In short, this place deserves your business, Eugene. It's in an old house and I couldn't figure out the bathroom situation, though. There was a sign that said "bathroom keys" with a hook underneath, but there were no keys and I hadn't seen anyone walk that way in a while. But maybe that's on me for not speaking up. read more

An awesome experience from start to finish. My boyfriend and I walked in and were greeted by a friendly golden retriever named Penny who is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Very warm and homey, with a sports bar meets deli vibe. I got a sandwich called "the turn". So amazing. We both had huckleberry lemon drops which were also very good and pretty strong.
