PET SHOP BOYZ 2 MEN This tchotchke store in downtown Oak Park lovingly services humans and their furry best friends. As one of the more eclectic businesses in the area, I always find so much cool stuff when I come in to Scratch 'N Sniff. At some point I'm gently reminded that I'm there to buy gifts for people (not more kitschy crap for myself). The storefront can be found on Marion St, just north of the train tracks. They've got treats a-plenty for canines & felines alike, most evidently seen in the glass display case near the front. Paw-shaped cookies for $2.25, holiday "pup cups" for $1.50 (dog-friendly Reese's), and too many other adorable things to name. You can find things like leashes, chew toys, and pet accessories in the back. I got a kick out of their small collection of stoner stuff: stash jars, ceramic grinders, ganja cookbooks, wake-and-bake coffee mugs. Human "catnip" was recently legalized in Illinois, so why not chill alongside your pet? It's unobtrusively tucked in with the rest of the store, too. Scratch 'N Sniff also has a fantastic selection of Chicago gifts, like plastic plates imprinted with a map of the CTA. Most of the stuff is available year-round, although some items are clearly seasonal. The gadgets section has tons of wacky (yet still practical) doo-dads like phone chargers and multi-purpose tools. * TL;DR * Unlike Poke Burrito or Hecho en Oak Park (which see our patronage 1-2 times/month), we stop in to Scratch 'N Sniff only once or twice a year, usually during the holidays. The staff are friendly and they have an incredible amount of funky fresh merchandise for both people and their pets. A creaky wooden floor enhances the down-to-earth vibe of this place, and as long as they continue to stock unique gifts, I'm happy to support small stores by shopping local. Recommended. read more

Yes, they have GREAT gifts for your bipedal friends too - like baby clothes, purses, barware, jewelry, giftwrap, gadgets and gizmos, and even cards. Why go to Petco and Hallmark, get it all here! This place is a great local shop, with truly expert employees who know their stuff and will help you find whatever you need for your four legged furry friends. I especially love the little bakery area where you can stock up on all kinds of pet friendly biscotti, muffins and cookies. My dog even knows the sound of the bag and comes running when she hears it. Prices are extremely reasonable given this is a boutique on a very snazzy street in downtown Oak Park. Easy parking in several lots, or metered parking on the street, and accessible via Metra and the Green Line as well. read more

Kitsch personified and magnified! This store rocks! This store was created for the hippest of pet owners. Prices are reasonable...but sky's the limit here. They have the hugest selection of collars, leashes, outfits, toys, hand painted and hand made items for pets that I have ever seen. Pop icons are everywhere, and they have tons of really cool vintage repro and retro accessories and home decor just in case the pet owner wanted to accessorize their home and children to match their pets current style. I love this store! BTW..those mouth watering beautifully painted sugar cookies and donuts in the bakery case aren't for you. I'm not a pet owner but I've been coming to Scratch n' Sniff for years because I love their vegan Espe brand wallets and purses plus cool accessories and the most glorious holiday ornaments!! The staff have always been super pleasant and helpful. Metered street and surface lot parking is not always easily available but there is a nearby village garage that's cheap. This is one of my FAVORITE places to shop for birthdays and holiday gifts! So unique!! read more

I've wandered into this place a couple of times before I had a pet, but then got a new dog. I came into this place right after I got my new dog from the Animal Care League, and he had a bit of a kennel cough. When I came in one of the staff there asked me what was wrong with him and when I told her, she asked me to leave so as not to expose the other dogs. If you know anything about vaccines, you would know that getting a vaccine prevents catching kennel cough. The reason that some dogs get them is they haven't been vaccinated b/c they are strays or whatever. My dog was not going to get anyone sick, as I was told by the staff at ACL when I adopted him. I was really embarrassed and felt bad when I left. Will not be returning again. read more

I actually saw this altercation of the shop owner berating a mother and child for what seemed to be a kid being a kid and then the store owner physically grabbing at the mother while the child was her in arms. Such a cute little store! I was moseying around downtown Oak Park while my husband got a haircut at his barber nearby. Scratch N' Sniff originally caught my eye because it looked like a dog boutique, but it's much more than that! They have a ton of fun nic-nacs for pet owners too. Treats, collars, toys, bowls - you name it. They have everything and anything my little pup could want. Not to mention an adorable bakery full of dog goodies. I'm super lame when it comes to my dog, so I fully appreciate all the dog related items they have for humans as well! They carry different kinds of dog statues, apparel, greeting cards, and more. I'm a sucker for anything pug or puggle so I was happy to see that in the mix! Scratch 'N Sniff is home to plenty of other fun stuff as well. It's a great place to find unique or quirky little gifts. Think flasks, scarves, bottle openers, photo frames, clocks...you get the picture. The woman working in the store was very sweet and thanked us for coming in. I got Tessa the cutest patent leather pale pink collar here for her to wear as her "summer/spring" outfit. What, big girls don't wear pink? It's hard to find girlie things in her size and she's often mistaken for a male. So when I saw the collar I just had to get it for her. Finally, a way to give people a clue before they insult her with comments like: "Oooh, what kind of dog is he?" Um, SHE'S a bullmastiff. "Look! A Bullmastiff! He's adorable how old is he?" SHE'S almost six. "What a big dog! He's so well behaved." Yes, SHE is. Thank you Scratch 'N Sniff for providing people a clue in the form of a pink collar that they never seem to notice anyway. My dog feels right at home here! Right after I adopted my dog I brought her here to get "outfitted". I spent way too much but Suzy is worth it. It's definitely a place for people who treat their dog better than themselves. The staff was extremely knowledgeable. They fit her for a no-pull harness and recommended a dog food (Orijen). As she grew and ate her harnesses, they refit her and told me the manufacturer would repair them for a small fee. They gave me training tips and toy advice which worked better than the advice the trainers gave. The food was a huge success. People always compliment her coat and she is very healthy. She can't get enough of the real meat jerky treats and loves the no-stuffing toys. What's even better is that they have a great selection of hip baby and nursery items, not to mention some cute handbags and candles. The only complaint I have is that they are pricey, but I haven't found better prices for the items they carry any place else. Also, I wish they were open later. read more

I love the store & the staff! Scout and I try to visit every week! The Staff is never pushy and very helpful. I received a great deal of help in fitting my dog with a coat & PAWZ foot covers. He was permitted to walk around the store in them to see if he would accept wearing them. You will not see that at a Petco or Petsmart ! The best foods are in stock along with a huge variety of pet toys, leads & collars.. The people gifts are unique & fun. Having read the complaint from the dullard that wanted to bring an ill dog into the store- I can only say: The pup did not need to be out & about- but at home resting ! Buy a clue! read more

Why support Petsmart or Petco when you can go to a local business. This was my second time coming here and I have to say that I'm sure there will be a third and fourth. The folks working this place are awesome and they are in tune with what you want and what you are looking for. What I like about this place is the amount of collars and leashes they offer and the fact that you can get some of them customized. Pimp your dog's collar right? This is the kind of place I love to wander into when I'm on vacation, but it's the worst kind of place to discover in your backyard... They make it waaay too easy to spend money on things you didn't know you wanted! Now that I've found Scratch N' Sniff, it's absolutely imperative that my cats get new collars and that I add four hologram cups to my collection. Lots and lots of great stuff to buy for the fur-family, but plenty of random decor and home supplies as well. Scratch 'N Sniff is a store full of things I never knew I wanted but definitely want now! Everything in here is so unique, kooky, and cool. The employees are always friendly and attentive, and seem to have as much fun working there as their customers do shopping. Stuff for men, stuff for women... they've got it all: jewelry, bags, pocketbooks, scarves, socks, books, housewares, knickknacks, novelties, stuffed animals, baby gifts, pet supplies... I LOVE IT! Most of their products are eco-conscious, vegan, and all their pet supplies are organic, all-natural, and super-wholesome. My pets love this store as much as I do. It's so great to have a store around that caters to every kooky desire of both humans and our furry friends - and it's even cooler that our pets are allowed to come shopping with us. No matter who you need a gift for (or even if you're treating yourself), you'll find what you're looking for here. The inventory changes regularly but never loses any of its charm. After reading the yelp reviews. I decided to make dive to oak park to visit Scratch N Sniff. I cannot say enough good things about this store. I browsed the isles for an hour and accumulating a lot of cute stuff for both my fur babies and myself. I managed to get my friend very cute birthday gifts as well. This store has many unique items that is hard to find anywhere else. The prices are reasonable for such unique items. The ladies at the store were very friendly and warm. Love this store! While meeting a friend in Oak Park for lunch one day, the displayed items in the window caught my eye. It was the week before Father's Day and I not only needed a gift for Dad, but a hostess gift as well. I walked in and immediately got caught up sniffing candles, for myself of course ;) I thought it was odd that it appeared that no associates seemed to be working in the store, but I figured they were around somewhere. I wandered around for a few more minutes and finally heard voices (coming from the backroom?) talking amongst themselves. I continued to wander towards the back area where there were really cool pet items. I just realized I need a few "new dog" gifts! I found a few more unique items that would be perfect! By this time one of the associates had bellied up to the register area, behind a desk and was fully engrossed in something, with her head down. As I walked past her, she still did not look up. I had been in the store for about 10 minutes and nobody said a word to me. Then, the other associate walked by me... and said nothing. She was cleaning the front door with Windex. She walked by twice more, without saying a word, and I put my items down and left. After about 30 years in retail management and customer service, I have chosen to not shop where I do not feel welcome. I don't always require help, but at least address and greet me as I enter. A smile goes a long way (as long as you can make eye-contact!) and the more welcome people feel and the more fun they are having, the more money they spend. Work CAN be fun if you let it, especially in a super-cool store like this. read more

Horrible experience. Today I witnessed the owner of this store speak very harshly to a small boy who was in the store with his mother. The boy was touching some feathers that were being sold as cat toys. The owner yelled at the mother and grabbed her by her clothes. I will not go back. read more

This schizophrenic store has always been good to me. I never expect much out of it, yet somehow, I always find exactly what I didn't know I needed.
