I came here from a recommendation of a family friend. I'm a first time puppy owner and I needed to ensure I had everything for my puppy when he came home. Jenny the store manager was honest and pointed me to what would be the best for my puppy's health and well being. She could tell me the ingredients of each brand and had great suggestions for puppy training. The best thing we got was the no hide chews. She warned me about the dangers of puppy chew toys that are made of plastic/rubber and warned me about the dangers of the plastic breaking off and the puppy ingesting it. My top choice for pet food since moving to Oak Park. They carry the exact food that my picky cat eats and almost always have it in stock. In fact they stock it now because of us, as well as the litter I special-ordered once. They have a customer rewards program and also will stamp the manufacturers frequent buyers card so I often get a rebate or coupon applied to my order. The store itself is large, comfortable to walk around in wiht your pets, and super clean and organized. I loved that I could walk around and see everything clearly and not have to dig. What really sets The Urban Mutt apart is their amazing staff. They are knowledgeable and they actually care. They always seem to know exactly which food or treat goes best. Anastasia found out I also have an elderly cat who has been somewhat lethargic lately and suggested a specific line of catnip fish they carry which now has my buddy playing and batting around his new toys like when he was young! I can not say enough great things about this place. When they opened I was in there all the time. Pretty much all of our dogs toys are from there and he is now addicted to the amazing treat selection! My boyfriend and I have taken our little Yorkie Louie there and he is in love!! we have gone to a couple of their events too. It is hard to find things to do that your dog is welcome to come, so being able to go to events where dogs are all over and there's food and drinks, that's fun for us. Usually we have to leave the little monster at home just looking at us in the window as we pull away. They have really turned this place into a little doggy gem. For a small store, they have an impressive selection of food, treats and toys. Lots of healthier, grain-free options. Hoping they will stock more Pumpers and duck hearts. Our dogs cannot get enough of them. The collars and leashes are cute but pricey. No more so than the big box stores, however. The service is kinda strange. I either get incredibly friendly or completely apathetic clerks working the register. Sometimes there is a free treat. Other times, the person working doesn't make an effort. It is the only inconsistency I wish they would ameliorate. I love having this in such close distance to home. So much more interested in shopping local than big box. And I love seeing all the neighbours' pooches' pics lining the walls. read more

This store also sells amazing dog gear, food, toys and many more amazing things! They have a lot of great sales on amazing high-quality dog toys! I haven't bought any yet, but they are clearly durable, well-priced, squeaky, crunchy, attention grabbing, and really fun for dogs! The employees are really nice to! I seriously can not say enough good things about this store! I have an elderly lab and a border collie who thinks he is a puppy & the girl working there blew me away by how much she knew when it came to food! She switched us to a grain free diet that has been working wonders for my babies and we couldnt be happier! On top of that the rewards program rocks! Theres NO way bix box pet store service comes even close. Here they will immediately greet you educate you about their various items. This is a small store so you're not going to find the variety of the big box stores but you will find things that are higher quality and stuff that is harder to find i.e.. antlers, himalayan chews. And also foods i.e.. Fromm Family, Orijen. Price is comparable to the bigbox stores. Easy walk harness was $27 vs $26 at petco. or star mark clicker $4 here vs $6 at petsmart. But why would I support a big corporate store when I can buy local? On the bad side: There is one certain female employee that is difficult to deal with and seems to be slow. Their old rewards program of $10 for every $100 still exists BUT it has been changed before there was no time limit for using up your points but now you're supposed to use your points within a month or they go away. I have a small dog (22lb) and it takes it 3 months to finish a a 30lb bag of dog food so obviously can't use the discount anymore. read more

We used Urban Mutt for our pups 1st birthday party. I was considering giving them a lower rating but opted not to because they played damage control very well. So we were scheduled to pick up the cake a half hour before the birthday party but when we showed up, the place was closed. We were unaware that they didn't open until noon. When we originally placed our order we made it clear that we were going to pick up the cake at 11:30. Anxious, we called Urban Mutt and requested that they deliver the cake to the birthday party venue and they happily obliged. Were it not for this I would never go back but since they saved the day by doing this, I would gladly go back to buy stuff for my pup. read more

I noticed this store after taking the Metra and decided to stop in for some treats and things. Maybe I came in at an off time (the majority of the reviews here are positive), but I was not greeted or approached during several minutes over various sections. As the only person in the relatively small store, I was surprised that my first interaction was with the cashier after I placed my items for checkout. She simply asked me for my last name and then asked if I had a rewards card. I didn't, and I didn't plan on signing up for one. The store is comprehensive and has a nice variety, but I expected a more "small town shop" feeling: at a minimum, greeting me at some point or offering to help me find something would've probably convinced me to stop back and try again. As it stands, this first impression will be my last, and I'll look elsewhere for service. read more

This eclectic pet store has two shops in Berwyn, one at corner of Grove and the BN RR tracks and the other just 2 doors north on Grove. They stock very good pet food, and offer oodles of treats. Urban mutt is a great store! My dog lucy loves going there because they give her treats and are very friendly towards her. She tries to pull me there if she thinks that is not where we are headed.
