This is a very nice furniture consignment shop. They do have some nice pieces that I thought were unique and you won't find just anywhere. The prices do drop somewhat, over time but depends if you want to risk waiting and not getting that special piece you really want. I always read reviews and when I was looking for consignment furniture, Divine Consign was highly recommended. We found a dining table online that we wanted and when we went to the showroom, it was exactly in the excellent condition that the website stated. The storeroom looks beautiful, but I didn't stay. I went through the online portal to inquire about consigning a piece of Victorian glass-blown art, a piece precious to my family. I got a response from the person staffing the on-line portal, which was cc'd to the owner, that they were interested in learning more about the item. After 3-4 emails back and forth, I was told to come in last Saturday morning so they could assess it in person. I took off the morning from work and my husband and I brought the item into the shop. We weren't 5 steps into the shop and were told, "No, you don't have an appointment and you can't just show up (to sell stuff)." The shop keeper blamed "whoever you emailed" for telling me to come in and since I couldn't immediately produce the email confirmation on my phone, he told me I made a mistake. He did end up unpacking the item to look at it, but then said it was too fragile and "we can't sell stuff like this". He said it in such a dismissive way that I started to tear up. I felt so disrespected, that I left quietly and cried in my car. My husband stayed to pack up the pieces. The shop keeper did give us a name of an antique store that might sell the piece, but I wasn't listening at that point and just wanted to get out of the shop. I immediately messaged the person on the on-line portal what happened, and I haven't received a response. I won't return. I felt disrespected and wasted two hours on a Saturday morning. I plan to donate the item to the Brown Elephant Resale Shop, which supports LGBTQ healthcare, so at least something positive results from this experience. read more

I was looking for some dressers for my brother who was moving. I found a great pair at Divine Consign, in good shape, quality furniture once from West Elm. It was the type of transaction, delivering to another address, to another name, that would get messed up in many other circumstances. But not at Divine Consign. Their customer service was superb! When I added on a sofa, no problem! The night before an automated message called and emailed me for the two-hour delivery window. The delivery people were right on time, knew how to deliver furniture and how to protect it, and placed it exactly where I wanted it. First, let me start by saying this place is excellent inside, and I was very excited to come here since I am new to the neighborhood and love consignment stores. The woman working behind the counter was great and answered all my questions. However, I just had a not-so-pleasant experience with my first purchase. I purchased a beautiful dining table. My fiancé and I checked every inch of it to make sure there were no significant scratches, took the leaf on and off to make sure everything worked properly, and even took pictures of the table. However, as soon as they dropped off the table, I immediately noticed a 2-inch deep scratch on the side of the table that was not there before; I let the drivers know, and they took a furniture pen and started to cover the scratch, it made it look better as the scratch was light oak in color, so very noticeable. I am incredibly disappointed. I have pictures of the table, but one of the corners of the table is cut off in the picture. My fiancé and I know 100% the scratch wasn't there prior. The driver said he could get us pictures that the scratch was there prior from the manager, but after waiting several minutes, he never received any photos. When you look online, they take very detailed pictures of all the furniture are its flaws; it's hard to believe that they wouldn't take a picture of the one huge flaw the table had, that's because it didn't have the scratch prior! I talked to Shon, whose solution was to bring it back for a refund. I took a day off of work to get this table delivered, and for it to come in this condition is disheartening as I was very excited about this table; also, to not offer some type of solution, possibly a discount, to me personally is not great customer service. I will probably end up keeping the table as I went to great lengths to get it, and it's not like I can return it and get another one just like it from there. My suggestion is to take pictures of literally every part of the furniture or even find a way to take it home yourself. I didn't like feeling like they thought I was lying. I told them for sure that the scratch was not there when I purchased it, which is why I was surprised when the driver called the manager, and he said he had pictures of the scratch, but nothing came of it. Obviously it's a consignment store, and things are bound to have scratches but we would have never decided to purchase the table had it had that imperfection when we viewed it. read more

Nothing worse than getting attitude when you walk into a place you've never been to before. It's the opposite of when a salesperson will not leave you alone when shopping, this place does not even say Hello when you walk in. That was not the main issue. Not every customer is right, we know that, and not every person working in retail or with the public should be working with the public. I felt "less than" when I went inside this place. I really want to like Divine Consign more than I do. I love wandering around the store and looking for cool finds, but often I feel that the pieces are pricey (too pricey for consignment...) and they don't have as many true vintage pieces that I'd prefer. While they will have options for you if you want a couch/table/bed/you name it to take home the day you are there, they aren't as good for unique and truly wonderful furniture. Sometimes you can spot these items but recently it's been more new items... sometimes you'll find some unique pieces, but for me, the prices aren't low enough for me to 'settle' on something vs buy something new that's exactly what I want. I'm much more willing to fall in love with an older piece with history for these prices, but it's getting harder to find these. I also tried to consign some things there a few years ago and they rejected all of the things I had. I ended up selling them locally for I'm sure more than I would have gotten for consignment, so I'm not sure what they're accepting (mine were good quality, not damaged wooden furniture pieces but maybe they had too many similar ones at the time..I'm not sure). A decent spot if you need something quickly or are willing to go constantly to find exactly what you want, but a bit pricey compared to other local 'vintage' spots at least for used items. read more

Not everyone can afford high-end furniture , but when you come into Divine Consign, you will definitely get a variety of items to choose from. Many people think new is best. But why not try a consignment piece and see the quality. I'm telling you, mid century turn, modern, eclectic, and of course high quality at the fraction of the cost? Why wouldn't you want to have a deal like this. I was on the prowl for a nice small table for the entrance of the house, and I had a great variety. Did I purchase this time? No, unfortunately, the dimensions I did see were not the ones I was in search of. That doesn't stop me from buying, of course, but I am very specific. This time around, I saw so many items that I wanted, but I couldn't be persuaded but them. Stuck to plan, stick to plan. I have had good experiences with them in the past but recently it's been horrible. When asked to sell something I was scolded for not having an appointment which okay I didn't realize so that's my fault . I have sold some items in there before and have always had good experiences until just last week. I had a few more items from my moms house to sell. Kirby said if I could wait a month to bring them in it would be helpful since their warehouse is full. She also asked me to email her with pictures of the items which I did. I don't live in state so my time in Chicago is usually brief. This last time I was there I emailed her and went into the store to pick up a check for the items I sold . She set up the appointment for Sat Aug 26 at 11:00 am. I wasn't able to be there but my sister went in my place to drop off the items. She was scolded and told that she didn't have an appointment and talked down to by thom yes I have the email to prove I had an appointment! Thanks thom but I have the proof even though you said we lied! They don't communicate with one another at all. If that's the way they want to treat their customers then I will never step inside their doors again. I haven't heard anything from them in the last two days. Proving to me they don't care about how they treat people. I'm in the service industry and if I ever treated anyone like they have treated me or my family I would not be in business !! Yesterday way my first time at Divine Consign, and it definitlely will not be my last. My partner and I were helped by Thom. He was personable, funny, super knowledgeable about the various items on the floor, and offered insights/tips that we hadn't considered. We found a like-new Mission-style loveseat for our den, and the delivery fee to our home in the Albany Park neighborhood was super reasonable. We also took advantage of their pricing structure to wait on a gorgeous Arts & Crafts bookcase, which lucky for us didn't get sold in the two days until the next price drop. As Thom promised, the price did indeed drop on the website before the actual store opened so we were able to make the purchase online and add it to our existing delivery at no extra cost. We came to Divine Consign for the first time a couple of weeks ago and we were so pleasantly surprised. This store is filled with well-priced, clean and lovely furniture and decor. There is no junk. It is a true treasure hunt and we left after purchasing seven "like new" pieces and paid what we might have for one of the items. AND, delivery for all was $75. What a fabulous consignment store!! I have been checking Divine Consign online photos for years and was intrigued so today I made an in-store visit. WOW.....this is an incredible store! They carry so many types of furniture: mid century, traditional, transitional, rustic, modern and the prices are better than most any place I have visited. The store is beautifully staged with tags that clearly describe the item and future price reductions according to date. But, the real hidden treasure of Divine Consign is Thom .....his knowledge of furniture and styles is no less than astounding! The hour I was in this store I think I learned more about furniture than I have for the past year. I wrote an amazing review for this store 3 years ago. Unfortunately, my most recent visits was a drastically different experience. Upon entering the store, Me and my sister were never greeted or approached even though the store was almost vacant. Walking past the desk at the back of the store, again nobody bothered to speak to us or engage us for assistance. Before leaving, there was a very rude and unprofessional sales woman sitting by the door on her phone again oblivious to the fact that we were leaving and never even bothering to say hello, let alone goodbye. Miracle of all miracles, in their vast showroom, I found a barely-used sleeper sofa in a size and a color that worked perfectly with my home's decor. The price was too good to pass up, so I bought it on Tuesday afternoon, and here I am, 48 hours later, sitting on it in my living room. I'll start my review by saying what a great shop Divine Consign is. Everytime I go in it's exciting to see the newly consigned items. They're in very good condition and often quite unusual. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their products. My salesman, Thom, was very easy to work with and gave me a lot of great ideas. Beware sellers! Divine has you send in pictures and information about each item and then decides whether the item is salable. That makes sense. In our case, we had about 20 items that are very nice and unique that would have a fantastic market. We were a bit surprised when, after a few rounds of Q&A, they decided that they only wanted eight of them (and not necessarily the eight that I would have picked). Oddly to us (and you'll understand why this is important soon), they made clear that they did want a dining room table but definitely not the very nice chairs that go with it. I was also OK with that. They presumably know the market and it's probably good for everyone that they are selective and careful. We're still doing good at this point. They will only pickup items during the week and they'll schedule a weekday day but not a time of day - although they say that they will call you the night before with a pickup window. So, we arranged pickup on a weekday when I could take the entire day off of work. Everything was confirmed multiple times both verbally and in writing for a pickup of the eight items (time of pickup tbd). They never followed through on their promise to call us and tell us what time the moving guys were coming but I stayed home all day and they did eventually show up. First problem was that the movers said that they were there to pickup one dining room table and its chairs (remember that they specifically told us, and confirmed in writing, that they did not want the chairs) - and that their orders had no other items covered. After half an hour of showing them the written approval for eight items (excluding chairs) and also verbally confirming the eight items with the store while the movers were on-site, instead of admitting that they had the wrong orders with them (obviously) and taking the eight items, the movers instead abruptly declared that none of the items were salable and left with none of them. Maybe this wouldn't be a big deal to some of you; e.g. you'd be fine spending weeks of time evaluating items with them, waiting for them all day to come get the items, having the movers ask for the wrong items, having some movers inexplicably judge your items unworthy and then having to start over from scratch. In our case, however, this was, and still is, an absolute nightmare. To give you a sense of what we're talking about, I've attached a couple of pictures of one of the eight items. I re-reviewed every picture posted to this Yelp page and on Divine's website and clearly this would be among the better items in the store. The professional reseller agreed with that assessment (again, we have this all in writing). The confused moving guys, on the other hand, said that no one would ever want to buy this item, or any of them, at any price. It breaks my heart because these items were treasures of my recently departed mother and she would have wanted a resale shop type buyer to have them and would have been please for us get a few dollars in return. UPDATE: Subsequent to my review, my sister and I received an email directly from the owner of the shop. You're probably all expecting the same thing I was which is profuse apologies for every mistake her employees made and a promise to fix it immediately. NOPE! She instead attacked us using demonstrably inaccurate/inapplicable information and also insulting both us and our recently departed mother who was the proud owner of these wonderful items. I find 100% negative reviews to lack credibility (surely no organization is 100% bad). I have accordingly, gone back through all of the papers and all of my recollections of dealing with Divine looking for something positive to say to balance out this review. I'm sorry but I can't find anything. I was even thinking of something small like "they were pleasant on the phone"; but, in fact, they only answer their phone about one out of every ten calls and they do not return voicemails - and so that is a big negative as well. I'm sorry to anyone reading this but I just can't find a single remotely positive thing to say about Divine (I'll update the review though if they apologize or if something comes to me). I am also trying hard to find a path to forgiveness. I understand that everyone has a bad day here and there but their disorganization (no call to schedule the pickup window, the movers clearly having the wrong orders, etc.) and lack of customer service (the owner failed to apologize and had the gall to attack us and insult our recently departed mother) are beyond anything I've ever experienced, or even heard of, and it's a real challenge (although I'll stay at it). Went over for my appointment that was scheduled by my sister for 11am today to drop off some "small" items. When I arrived they told me I didn't have an appointment today, then said to me "are you sure you even have an appointment?" Treated me like I was stupid! Why would on earth would I show up if I didn't have an appointment. Thom really didn't even try to help me make an appointment instead he said "go into the store front or call", cause he couldn't be bothered to spend one more second talking to me. He was rude and dismissive and I will not be back!! And I will tell anyone I can not to bother with this store, that is unless you like rude service. read more

I only had a few moments to spend at Divine Consign before time ran out on my parking meter, but I will definitely be back soon with hubby in tow. If your tastes run to the classic, there are antique-y antiques with an impressive pedigree. If you are a modern sort, there's stuff for you too. And there are lots of paintings, accessories, and objets d'art to round out the look. The prices are pretty reasonable (if you need cheap, head over to Brown Elephant) and the store is full without seeming too cluttered. Everything at the store is consigned (duh!) from individuals or furniture stores, and the prices are reduced the longer it sits on the sales floor. You can add your name to a "wish list" so if you have something particular in mind, the store will notify you if it appears. I don't know if they coined the phrase "eco-chic," but there is definitely something "green" about the concept of re-using what is here rather than having China make us new stuff all the time. So if you have the heebies about buying a couch someone else sat on, just get over it. And bring plenty of quarters for the parking meter. read more
