A Jamaican spot found at a gas station that is closed is one of those unique finds in the Atlanta area. To some the prices may be a bit on the high side but the food is bussin. Good authentic food. Came in and tried the curry chicken which offers to the option of spicy or mild which is nice. The sauce truly uses the infamous scotch bonnet peppers known in Jamaica, so it definitely has a kick. The rice and peas and side of cabbage for veggies was good also. The portions are large so don't feel bad if you can't finish it in one sitting. Not to mention the popular "mystery" lemonade. At a glance you can tell it's not your traditional lemonade, but it is SOOO refreshing & addictive! Before I knew I had finished the drink and looking for a refill. You can tell it's a fan favorite because folks started rolling in after we arrived and everyone got the drink - some even took it by the gallons. The owner Kevin is very friendly and passionate about his cooking. I'm amazed at how he operates it all as he is the cashier, cook and server - but he managed it all. This was great, i did a quick look at places near my hotel and found this place. The woman working was just wonderful. I had in mind what I wanted thinking of past visits to Jamaica and was not disappointed. The Jerk Chicken was very flavorful, I got the medium as she said the hot was like ghost pepper hot. The medium was good for me. They also had two flavors of Ting which I do not see often in the US. If you get a chance and want a wonderful flavor of Jamaica with great service you should give them a shot. read more

My review is for the restaurant 6385 Roswell Rd NE (for some reason Yelp has that address as closed but it's open and located behind a gas station). Oxtails were AMAZING! I didn't care for the rice. It had a heavy coconut flavor and was somewhat sweet. I didn't like the plantains. I don't think they were fresh. What I mean is, they were fried, left to sit out, as if waiting for someone to order them and then added to the plate. Not made to order. I dislike reheating plantains. I enjoy them fresh off the oil. I didn't care for the Island lemonade drink which was mixed red and yellow drinks with fruits. It tasted like Capri Sun. Maybe next time I'll just try the lemonade only (yellow drink). I wanted patties and I was informed no patties were made today because he didn't feel like making them. Customer service from Kevin was nice. Will I come back? It's a toss up. The oxtails were really good but for me to drive out here for just that nah because I didn't enjoy the sides and the plate, albeit huge, was pricey. Also I presume I got the large. Or maybe it's only one serving size because I wasn't asked if I wanted small or large. The oxtails plate was a WHOPPING $36. As I was leaving First Citizen's Bank in Powder Springs, GA last Friday, I was hungry as hell!!!! I found 2 spots on Google, Carzell's Kitchen LLC & Scotchie's Restaurant. I called Stink Stink to see what I should pick. She told me Jamaican so that's what I did. I GPS'ed to the Powder Springs location, which was about 10 minutes away from me. The GPS took me to a shopping plaza/mall and it was a bit hard to find the restaurant at first. I drove around the back on the shopping plaza/mall and ended up finding it. It's across the street from the Chevron, beside the liquor store if you are wondering. Upon entering, the sounds of Bob Marley and The Wailers were playing which set my soul at ease. There was an older lady there who was the sweetest person in the world! I told her I wanted fish and she recommended the Escovitch Fish or the Brown Stew Fish (snapper). After going back and forth, we decided the Brown Stew Fish was ideal for me. It took momma about 15-20 minutes to prepare, as the seafood is cooked to order. The presentation was super homely and authentic to me. I received my rice, peas and cabbage in one plate, and my fish/brown stew in another. OMG!! When I tell you this place takes you to Ocho Rios amongst the people like I was for my 30th, it did that! The flavors are natural and taste organic with very little additives. Whatever recipe they have going on is amazing and uniquely different. It was sooooooo good, I tried the brown stew ribs from the Buckhead Food Truck the next day! The wait was a bit off, being he (I'm guessing the owner) was at the Powder Springs location, but hands down top-tier ribs. Not falling off the bone, as I really don't like mine extremely soft, but tender enough to manage without struggling and biting down too much. Perfect blend of seasonings and sauce, also served with rice and cabbage. He also threw in a free homemade pineapple based drink for the wait. All I needed was some tequila or vodka with it! I was told he is outside on the grill later in the week, depending on weather. You can't go wrong with anything I've tried. The food was delicious and fresh tasting. We got the curry shrimp plate and the oxtail plate , it came up to about $52. My only issue was that there was no menus posted or prices listed. If you're looking for a taste of Jamaica, Scotchie's is the closest you'll get without having to catch a flight. The best rice & peas with REAL coconut flavor. I never cared for cabbage but I'm a new lover of it after tasting Scotchie's. Great flavor in all of the food especially the curry chicken, it had a perfect balance of curry, spice & goodness. Love this place!! Found it on Yelp when I was looking for a Jamaican restaurant while I was home. I FOUND A GEM! From Mon-Fri there is a food truck located near the Bank of America before you turn towards the bars. If you want this great food on the weekends you have to come to the Sandy springs location or the one in Midtown (opening soon). The food is authentic and just what my dad and I were looking for in terms of Jamaican food. I've had GREAT Jamaican food in my life but this definitely is up there as quality. Also! The owner is so nice and super friendly! He even let us try a few dishes before we ordered our food! Loveeeeed it!
