So I had seen this spot for ages and I have never been inside. So I tried to make a point to go in because I was in the area. It's in a shopping center so there are plenty of parking, but you may not be able to park close to where you want to walk to the door to because there are so many other spots there. But the parking is free in Buckhead. So that's a plus! There's spaces inside and outside for you to go to, so that's good, but the inside is very nice and decorated very well. They have TV so you can watch sports but it's not a sports bar so don't get that confused. The bar is a nice size and set it pretty well. Not billions of bottles but just enough to what you need. Dean was my my server and bartender, super good customer service, very warm and communicative, and I would have come back just to sit at the bar with him again. The ball is very well kept and very clean, but the whole establishment was as well. They have a lot of space by the bar and to the other side of the restaurant as well. The menu is predominantly seafood related but they have other things as well. But they have a couple things that look like. They should be really really good so I am going to have to double back! Calamari - The calamari was pretty good. It came out really fast so it makes me think that they were already cooking by the time I ordered LOL. But it had a sweet chili sauce to it, but the calamari seem to be crispy and seasoned enough to where it wasn't a requirement. Brussel sprouts - brussel sprouts for good, kind of wish they had more of them but they were still pretty tasty. Overall. They had the vinaigrette flavor so I know that they were cooked well. They were more firmed and mushy so that was good. I would get them again and I was see. Can I get a full order instead of just a side order because they were just that good. Old bay fries - The Old Bay fries were okay. They had that sodium to where you needed ketchup to kind of bring the sweet. But they were still good though regardless. Shrimp tacos - these were good. Had 3 large shrimp. Got mine blackened and they were just the right amount of taste and flavor. The sauce on it was a little much but that was okay though, it balanced out all of the spice for the peppers and the shrimp seasoning. Gumbo - the gumbo was pretty good and it came in a large bowl, more than you would think a cup would be. Savory and tasty. Overall, with the quality of the food and the customer service, I feel like this place definitely deserves my attention again. Friends told us about Big B's. it's been around for nearly a decade. To be fair, we rarely go out for seafood and we never go IP, but thought we'd give Big B's a shot -- and we're glad we did. The entire visit to Big B's exceeded my expectations. I visited during Happy Hour! It was not that crowded which I loved. We were sat immediately. Our waitress was extremely kind. For appetizers we had the fried pickles and hush puppies. These shareable appetizers were $5 each during Happy Hour (4P-6P). We also ordered the Happy Hour $5 Margaritas. You get a lot of "punch" with Happy Hour cocktails. For the entree the waitress allowed me to make modifications because I am a vegetarian. The Cajun Shrimp Pasta with no shrimp was amazing! For dessert I ordered the Salted Caramel Cheesecake. I would have ordered a full cheesecake if I could because it was great. We were in south Atlanta around lunchtime but I wanted good seafood before our flight 8 hrs later so I drove up to north part with my work colleague to try this spot. We were the first customers since we arrived 9 mins early before opening. After looking over the menu, it's fairly easy to order a few items and still come in under $50 which is my goal on most business trips. I tried an iced tea and the North Carolina trout. For my 2 veggies, I chose the spinach and brussel sprouts. My colleague hates brussel sprouts, so this was yet another opportunity to annoy him and eat them in front of him. Trout - nice presentation, comes with 2 filets, buttery spinach, brussel sprouts are just average, not crispy. My colleague ordered the fried catfish plate since he's big on catfish and pretty much ate everything but the plate. The interior is fairly casual with a nautical theme for sure, but in a semi upscale kind of way. There were not many customers during our visit here, which was sort of surprising based on the quality of the food. We came in around 4pm after an already long day since we'd been up since 4am because of our flight. The restaurant wasn't packed on a Friday at 4pm but around 5pm, people started pouring in. We started out with the shrimp & andouille sausage gumbo and crispy fried calamari. The shrimp & andouille sausage gumbo comes in one size and it's just the right amount. I kid you not, the gumbo was perfect. Your taste buds will be firing on all cylinders after you put a spoonful into your mouth and taste the perfect seasoning of the soup. The okra was soft and delicious and the rice was cooked very well. After squeezing the lemon out all over the calamari, we dug in and it was great. The sauce that it came with was sweet chili; however, it didn't really add anything to the dish for me so I ate most of it without dipping into it. I ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta and my partner ordered the fried fish and shrimp platter. The Cajun shrimp pasta was creamy, cheesy, a little spicy, and seasoned well. You just have to remove the tails on the shrimp if you don't eat them (which I don't so I removed them all and then dug into the dish). I think it needed some finishing salt, but I didn't add anything. I wanted to try the dish as they prepared it. I let my partner have the fried fish all to himself, but I definitely tried the fries and shrimp. The fried shrimp was cooked to perfection, so good and well-seasoned. However, the experience unfortunately declined when it came to the main course. I ordered the Grouper Fillet entrée ($36), and I've attached a photo for reference. The fish was noticeably overcooked and dry, and as someone who grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, I'm very familiar with the taste and texture of fresh grouper. This did not resemble grouper in flavor, texture, or appearance. When I politely raised this concern to the waitress, she brought it to the kitchen staff who refused to acknowledge the mistake. To further investigate, I used an AI-powered image recognition tool to analyze the fish and, consistent with my palate, the analysis confirmed the fish was not grouper but a different white fish altogether. Additional feedback: * Hush puppies were bland and lacked seasoning * Brussels sprouts were overcooked and mushy * Coleslaw was excellent and refreshing * Shrimp dishes were consistent in quality and taste After I brought up the issue with the entrée, I sensed a shift in tone and felt as though we were being rushed out, which only added to the disappointment. I decided to drive out here because I was looking for an oyster happy hour. I was there on a Wednesday afternoon right at four when happy hour started and it was pretty slow so I got a table. The oysters were good and hush puppies were also on the happy hour menu and I love hush puppies, but They were not to my liking. I also decided to get the chili shrimp appetizer, which was absolutely fantastic. The creamy spice sauce on top was delicious and the shrimp was very crispy. Semi skeptical when my friend suggested this place for a double date night. Big B's and Fish Joint don't seem to jive to me when it comes to a place that sounds appealing to your tastebuds. Well, I was wrong. This is a pretty big place (looks small from the parking lot) and they have outdoor seating. It's more upscale than it sounds and the prices reflect that. I will say that the booth we sat in could've used some cushioned seats but that's my only complaint. The watermelon salad with mint, balsamic glaze, feta, and cherry tomatoes was ball dropping good. A tad more mint would've been perfection. My drink, the French 75, hit the spot. And the Matua Sauvignon Blanc paired great with my entree. I love to come here when I am in the mood for seafood on my lunch hour as it is very close to my employee. this place is a true fish house. You can come and choose what cut of fish or shrimp that you would like as it is displayed freshly upon walking in. The staff is always nice and helpful and the food is always hot and fresh. I had the pleasure of dining at Big B's Fish Joint and let me tell you the food was amazing. I woke up craving fried catfish and Googled the best spots for fried catfish and Big B's Fish Joint came up. Of course I had to look at the Yelp reviews and the reviews did not disappoint. I headed over and ordered the "Fried Louisiana Catfish Platter". The platter is normally served with Old Bay French Fries, Classic Cole Slaw, Housemade Tartar Sauce & Crystal Louisiana Hot Sauce. However, I substituted the fries and cole slaw with crispy brussel sprouts and cheddar grits. I ended up sending the cheddar grits back. It wasn't that the cheddar grits weren't good, they just weren't hot enough temperature wise and I don't know about you but I can't eat room temperature grits. They just aren't that enjoyable for me. However, my server was nice enough to take them back with no issue and bring me out fresh fries instead. Another thing I want to point out is you can substitute the sides. Did you hear me? You can substitute the sides with no additional charge. Finally, a restaurant that allows substitutions. The catfish was amazing. The portion of the fish is huge and nicely battered and seasoned. The coating of the fish batter is not to hard or to soft but if you prefer your catfish fried a specific way, again the restaurant does not have an issue accommodating your needs which I love. Everything was tasty and the sweet tea was amazing. Not diabetic sweet but sweet enough to bring a nice smile to your face. I have to say, I was throughly impressed. To me, it's really hard to find a good seafood restaurant at a decent price here in Atlanta with great portions so I will officially say this meal was a 10/10. It was my moms birthday and the server was nice enough to bring out a fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream on top drizzled with chocolate syrup and man was that brownie good. It was warm, fudge and sweet. After months of seeing Big B's oyster happy hour all over social media, I had to come and see what the hype was all about. At the time of my last visit in 2021, happy hour was everyday from 4-7pm. I do appreciate a daily happy hour that lasts longer than a single hour and it's just on slow weeknights. Love their dog friendly patio! In warm weather, it's super cute and fun! Not so much when it's cold though lol. Their happy hour is a smaller portion of the menu with $1 raw oysters and discounted select share plates & starters. There's also a small happy hour drink menu for discount wine & a seasonal cocktail. While I'm usually a Pinot noir girl ($5 per glass!!) I leapt at the Sauvignon blanc since I prefer to pair seafood with whites. The Happy mule was also a super refreshing boozy option. We ordered 18 oysters (you can order by the dozen or half dozen) and the shrimp 'n grits fritters. The oysters are pretty good, for the price. I vow never to complain about $1 oysters unless I end up getting food poisoning or something lol. The shrimp 'n grits fritters were a bit heavy for me but still paired well with the happy hour drinks. Since we were still hungry, we decided to share the creamy scallop pasta, which is a HUGE portion of creamy pasta and scallops. I was looking for a seafood place close enough for lunch in work days and saw this place hiding in the shopping center by sprouts. I have driven by here dozens of times and never noticed it before. I was by myself for lunch and was not particularly hungry so I was looking for a lighter meal. I went with the fish tacos, fried. They came with one side and i stuck with the old bay fries. Everything was fresh and hot. It came out really quick. The tacos were great. I was very pleased. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Well the prices are not cheap. But it is fresh seafood and you have to pay for that. Considering what you get the prices are not bad. But I would have liked some lunch specials. I ordered off the sandwich/taco section of the menu and literally got the cheapest thing in the menu at $15.95. With tip I got out for right at $20. I have no problem with the value for what I got but entrees in the $20-25 range are more than I usually do for lunch. So some lunch specials would have been nice. Service was fast. Big B's was great! Everyone in our party gave two thumbs up. From start to finish everything was seasoned, well prepared, and received multiple compliments from our group. The appetizers were shrimp and grits fritters, fried pickles, and the shrimp scampi. The shrimp scampi was the best of the apps. The Louisiana fried catfish was a huge portion perfectly fried.
