I have been coming here about 2x a week since finding this place. The clerk welcomes me with a warm smile as she recognizes me as I walk in the door. I have ventured into their other baked goodies and trying different flavors of their scones. I just picked up their blueberry crumbcake, bbq chicken manapua and my absolute favorite, mini choco chip scones. The crumbcake was very moist w/ large blueberries all over - it was good but nothing to really go crazy over. For the manapua, I wasn't sure if it'll be the American BBQ tomato based or the local BBQ teriyaki so I was anxious to bite into it. Sadly to say, it didn't have much of a distinct flavor but very generous with chicken chunks and small bits of onion. I usually pick-up extra scones to give to my sister and her family, where my niece brings them as snack to school. She is a fan of the wheat blueberry scones and shares with her friends, who also enjoy them. read more

I went there this morning and it was closed. Anyone heard anything? Online it states it is open but when I went, I saw mails scattered on the floor so I assumed it was closed yesterday as well. read more

This little bakery was not what I thought it would be. The pictures look cute but the bakery is small. A little off putting as they just put your bakery items in a tiny pastic grocery bag as is. Not wrapped up or anything. Weird. My boyfriend got a few of the little pocket sweets and I tried a bite of each. They are dry! This is place is okay, not my favorite. read more

Amidst the new bakeries that have popped up in the Kaimuki neighborhood on 12th Avenue is Sconees which opened up in the area over 15 years ago. As the bakery name indicates, scones are what they are known for. As the tale of the bakery goes, the bakery's scone recipe comes from the now defunct Liberty House (now Macy's) local department store chain. One of the bakers there became the head baker at Sconees, though I am not sure if the recipe has changed or not over the years. I vaguely remember buying scones here a long time ago. I decided to walk down memory lane and try them once again. The building storefront is non-descript. As you head inside, the bakery interior is pretty plain as well like nothing has changed over time. The bakery is small, so there is just enough room here to order at the counter and take your baked goods to go. Perhaps I had ignored them the first time I was here, but this bakery offers up more than just scones of which they have many flavors of. They have other baked goods like butter mochi, fruit bars, muffins and even baked manapua! And the baked goods here are economically priced, not like they were some artisan handcrafted delicacies. I got a couple mini scones, a baked char siu manapua and two fruit bars for about $7-8. The scones are just as good as I remember so I don't think the recipe has changed. They aren't buttery tasting, but they don't need any toppings either. It has got the right amount of crumble and flakiness. The baked char siu manapua was okay. It probably needed a reheat in the microwave, but it was fine. Meat filling was average. You can find better manapua in Chinatown or down the street at Happy Days. As for the fruit bars, I got one of each of the guava and lilikoi. These are like a fresh and bigger version of the tropical fruit bars that Cookie Corner has. They are very tasty. Both were good, though I like the lilikoi one a little better. If you like reasonably priced no-nonsense baked goods, Sconees is a place worth checking out in Kaimuki Town. Particularly for their scones and tropical fruit bars. read more

Walked in for the custard pie for my father. Picked up a few scones and didn't regret it! The owner is so nice, he is personable and asks for feedback about his deserts. The custard pies are great and of course the scones are soft, buttery and perfect. He only makes the mini scones- which they don't look very mini $1.55 each. YUMMMMM read more

Scones is so nice and homey! I recently went to Paris and was introduced to truly amazing pastries. When I returned home, I searched for a bakery that could make pastries like I had in Paris and just about found it in Scones. I love the little fruit "flatties", but they also have scones, quiche, savory pastries and fruit bars. P.S. it is cash only. read more

Came here on a whim while walking around Kaimuki one Saturday morning. I like scones, so why not? We got a peach scone, a chocolate chip scone, and banana bread. The scones were a good texture and density compared to scones I've had in Britain. Good marks there. My wife said she didn't taste and peach in her peach scone, just a sweet flavor overall. My chocolate chips came through nicely. The banana bread, however, was not at all good. It tasted like corn bread. And they sell corn bread. Maybe they make them in the same over and the smell permeates across the different batches of bread? In any case, skip it. No banana flavor or creamy texture at all. Unless I have a specific need for only a scone, this bakery isn't worth a return trip. read more

Grew up with this bakery in the neighborhood. I'm so happy it's still in existence. Their lemon and lilikoi bars are my favorite as well as their scones. The apple cheese pockets and blueberry cheese pockets are so good too. This place will always have a special spot in my heart since I went here with my dad a lot when I was little. read more

Today my auntie brought home some lilikoi and Guava bars! They were so ono and wasn't expecting them to be so flavorful! I think I liked the guava more, but stoked to finally get a taste of these delicious bars. I live in Wahiawa, so I don't always drive to town. Can't wait to try more items on their menu! read more

Small bakery specializing in what else? SCONES! The texture wasn't exactly correct, but the size was and it tasted as close as the real thing -- never been able to find the real thing here in the United States. Pop them into the oven to warm them up and have a nice afternoon tea party! They sell other baked goods too such as custard pies, almond pastries and lots more. read more

They are OPEN on Sundays!!! Yelp Masters, please update your hours for this bakery! I walked by just after they opened and grabbed a bag of day old cornbread... and paid less than $4 for 4 gigantic pieces of cornbread. But the wonderful taste is what compelled me to write a review. It did not taste like day old cornbread at all! Light, moist and with a hint of sweetness - soooooo yummy toasted with butter. Seriously the best cornbread I can remember eating!!! read more

Reasonable pricing and yummy scones and bars. Coworker brought some to work and they were delicious! They also have coffee. According to her they also have or had chocolate cake here that's divine but I've never seen it before. If I get it I will update! read more

Best scones on Oahu. My mother LOVES scones and I searched all over to find the perfect scones. She's tried other places, but she said Sconees Bakery has the best scones, hands down. read more

Local bakery hidden in Kaimuki neighborhood. Cash only establishment, get there early if you want the good stuff. My favorites are the dessert/fruits bars. And then the pies (but I'm always a sucker for pie). Namesake scones I find to be dry, would work with a cuppa tea, decently executed. And there are also other items that vary. read more

I bought three things today, two were meh and one was ok. The char siu manapua bread was pretty decent, but the meat tasted a little strange and was too mushy. The blondie had a weird, chewy texture and not much flavor. The scone tasted like a regular scone, so nothing special. I remember eating the fruit bars a few years ago at a meeting and thought they were amazing. I'll have to try them again. read more

Sconees Bakery - Char siu manapua, mini chocolate chip scone, blondie - Bakeries Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Very very dry scones. Not sure if it was because we got there close to closing. Lemon bar was just okay.

Fruit and cake bars for days! And for $1.50-$1.95 each, you can't go wrong because Sconees has up to 5 different varieties to choose from. I was lucky enough to try all of them...in one day...ok fine, it was actually in one sitting, ha! http://bit.ly/2yg7JEl LEMON BARS: This was one of my top picks because I like anything tart and dislike anything overly sweet. I just wished the lemon flavor was more pronounced. Adding fresh lemon zest and more lemon juice would totally elevate this bar to another level. The golden crust on the bottom is nice and buttery and doesn't crumble or fall apart when you bite into it, bonus points for that. LILIKOI BARS: This is supposed to be the popular one of the bunch, but like the lemon bar, it needs more of an acidic kick that's its passion fruit is known for. I want more of that tartness to shine through. APPLE BARS: A sweet apple pie filling topped off with a sugar-coated graham cracker crumble. Instant diabetes. GUAVA BARS: Everyone raves about this one but it was my least favorite because it tasted too artificial and I didn't really get any guava flavors. YELLOW CAKE BARS: This one was a mystery to me. I couldn't tell if it was a brownie or a cake. The consistency was like a brownie, chewy and sweet like molasses, yet it sort of crumbled when I took a bite. Let's just say it's a Blondie bar that I'm not going to eat again in the future. CHOCOLATE BROWNIE BARS: I liked this one the best because it's not overly sweet. If I could get it without the dusting of powdered sugar, I'd be set! Overall all, the chocolate brownie bars and lemon bars are my go to if I'm ever in the area and need a sweet tooth fix! 3.5 stars rounded up. read more

Live whenbthevrack goes 1/2 price its super yummy atbthe end of each day! I live the lilikoibars!!!

Coming back from Kahala, I stopped by Sconees to take some baked goods home to share. This is one of the many dessert shops on 12th in Kaimuki, a bit farther towards the freeway than the rest. Inside was the friendliest Filipino lady who was more than happy to give me all of the corner pieces and recommendations on what was good. I probably should have come earlier as a few of the items were sold out when I got there but I did end up going home with a handful of scones, fruit bars and powdered fruit turnovers. The scones were average, the turnovers were underwhelming but the fruit bars were pretty good. Overall, I don't think this place was anything special but they did have a good variety and the pastries were mostly above average. I did like it but I don't think I'd come again. Thus, it was "A-OK". read more

Ordered a French apple pie for a birthday. The pie was very good and reasonably priced. Probably the least expensive place to buy bakery goods. Heard their lemon bars are great. Don't get me wrong... I love this place. But on a recent trip there, I asked how many bars fit in a box. I was told either 8 or 12 (as they have different sized boxes) so I ordered 12. Turns out, only 10 fit nicely in a box so two bars were stacked on top and totally ruined the gift I was trying to give to someone. The two one top moved and ended up sticking to all the ones on the bottom. It was TERRIBLE!!! (It could have also potentially looked as though the box was missing another 8 for a full double stacked box). Either way, super disappointing and I just wish the person at the counter knew to give a more accurate answer as to how many bars fit in a box... read more

Yum yum yum! Come here for the awesome scones! I was a bit ambivalent about the peach and apricot but they were awesome! Not overpowering with fruit taste: more like a hint of fruit. Can't beat the plain and the blueberry. The apple is delicious (sprinkled with cinnamon). The minis are pretty generous! read more

The rating I leave today should have been a 5 but..... I have been going to SCONEES for many years. I like their scones and Lilikoi bars... Last weekend, I received a batch of extremely dry Lilikoi bars and the crust made up approximately 1/2 of the Lilikoi bar which was also abnormal. The Lilikoi cream this time was a nearly curdled texture and very, very dry. So trying to help the owner sell his product, I called to let them know what I received. As a senior citizen, I haven't ventured out during the pandemic or I would have explained the situation to them at the next purchase In person. Being on a fixed income, I don't like to spend money on a poorly-made batch of Lilikoi bars. The guy that answered the phone told me that HE made the Lilikoi bars said he was offended because he makes all the Lilikoi bars everyday. I was trying to help the guy with quality control measures. He told me to tell my friend who has been picking up the treats to ask for GARY and he would replace the Lilikoi bars. I thanked him albeit he was not happy. I can not help that the product I received was not the normal, delicious treat. I know that things can go wrong and do go wrong at times when baking. A bad batch is a bad batch. My friend goes back today and asked for Gary as requested, who in turn decided to refund money and told my friend NEVER to come back.... What kind of aloha is that? I tried to call him and he took over the conversation and wouldn't let me speak. He hung up in my ear. I tried calling again and he told me I was harrassaing him and never to call again or he would call the police. And once again, he hung up on me. Huh? I don't understand that kind of business ethic. I have been purchasing their sweet treats for many, many year and the lady that generally helps me was really nice and waiting for me because I would come every weekend. People have a right to receive good products and not to spend money needlessly so that the owner can financially benefit. That's not right. My rating today is a 1 for bad business ethics. read more

YUM! I love walking into a bakery in the morning! The smell of freshly baked goods is just so comforting and makes me want to buy more. Haha. My favorite is their lemon bars. They are always perfectly tart but slightly sweet and the crust is nice and buttery. Perfection!! The mini scones here are yummy too!!! There has been only one person in the front, so if you enter and no one is there just call out "Hello!!!!". They do not take credit cards, so don't forget to bring some cash!! I just love this place! Whole wheat scones dat melt in yur mouth when you go home n toast them. Ummm good! Also da blueberry cheesecake scone is one of da best scones you'll ever eat. N I especially love da cornbread. Huge pieces at super affordable prices dat no one can match. If u wanna take a box of mixed scones, cornbread, coffee cake and lemon n guava squares you be surprised how cheap it all cost! My kind of place. Quality pastries at super affordable prices. I need to come back and try more like the lililkoi bars. Mama san did not seem to be in a very good mood. Not a good impression for a first time visit. Still, bought two bars since we were here to give a try. Lemon Bar $1.25 Very cheap price I got excited because I love lemon bars. With that price I could buy the lot. Alas, although the size was nice for the price, the taste just wasn't there. I'm not even sure if there was any lemon in there. It really was that weak. Guava Bar $1.25 Same for this bar. No guava taste. If you're looking for something sweet to eat these treats could satisfy. If you're looking for that taste you may want to look else where. I will give it another try because this could have been an off day, couple of bad batches. Hope they have the lilikoi bar when I do. read more

Cash only! This place has real scones. Not like the cake ones at DH Market (I still love those but they aren't traditional scones). I came in here recently to get some scones and other treats for tea, and everything went over well. I got a variety of scones - I think the triple berry ones went over best. I also got some of the fruit bars - lemon, lilikoi and guava - which were all super tasty! There are lots of other treats as well, which served as a reminder to come back a little more often to try those too! read more

This bakery reminds me of small kid time. So wonderful in it's simplicity and the baked goods are fantastic!

Best scones I've ever tasted! I just happened to see this shop after dining across the street. I love scones so I had to check it out. The trays were full and I had my pick of items. I was full from my meal though so I only bought a couple items. Ugh that was a mistake! After I left the shop and tasted the scones at home, I immediately wished I had bought more! Unfortunately I was only visiting, so I never made it back to get more. Do yourself a favor and try EVERYTHING. I'm definitely going to buy boxes full the next time I visit Oahu. :) read more

The chocolate chip scones are the bomb. Go early or they run out!! I also like the blueberry with cream cheese and the Apple scones. I've had the lemon and lilikoi bars and they are ok.
