I called to ask for advice and the man on the phone launched into a tirade about how he is insulted that I would call for help on a bike he didn't sell me. I apologized for my insult and wished him a good afternoon. I live in a small town that is more than 20 miles from a bike shop and I need to rely on the good graces of others. I cannot recommend this establishment for any reason based on the negative response I received when asking for help. read more

This guy is a total jerk. Told me that I "couldn't possible appreciate bicycle riding" because I bought a "cheap bike". He began talking trash about his other customers and their cheap bikes. He said it was disrespectful to bring a Walmart bike to his store. I've had my Walmart bike for many years and it's been great. I just wanted a "tune up" and this guy did nothing more than insult me. I've got news for this guy....people can buy an inexpensive bike and still enjoy riding. Don't need to spend a fortune on a toy to enjoy using it. Do I have to buy a $500 rod to enjoy fishing? Do I have to buy Angus beef to enjoy a burger? This guy is a not a nice person.....nobody should be insulted when walking into a store. Not sure why that's so hard for him to understand. read more

We bought both our boys bikes here for their birthdays. Huge investment. Not only was the customer service horrible, the bikes weren't done one time. We gave him 2 months to get the bikes ready before the big birthday party. AND He sold me on his lifetime general service guarantee. 2 months after he delivered the bikes (late, we didn't have the bikes for the birthday party). We called to make an adjustment to one of the breaks. He never showed up for the appointment. No call. Finally caught him a week later when I went in and he refused to service the bike. Said he had no record of our service agreement. I don't think he expected me to keep my receipt that showed where I paid for the service. THIS PLACE IS NOW CLOSED!!!! My Brother Went into the shop and spoke with the owner Scott. About getting a refund on unused parts still in their original packaging. Scott Refused stating that he was taking business away from him and wasting his time, by bringing unused parts back to him. My brother stated that he would be doing more business with him in the future. Scott then stated if that was true then he would give my brother in store credit, or nothing at all. This exchange took place in front of several customers and my son, who walked out of the store do to his rude demeanor towards my brother. This place is awesome. I don't understand the malice of some of the reviewers but the owner Scott is such a kind and genuine person. I had a phone call with a question and he was kind and knowledgeable on the phone and then I came in and he was just outstandingly nice and helpful! Don't take the negative reviews word for it, go in and give the man a chance and you'll see he and his shop are fantastic. Prices were what I found on Amazon as well so it's a no brainer to get good help and good prices. read more

Wow! I teach a class about "Creating Unforgettable Experiences" for guests and this store just gave me the story of a lifetime on how to create a bad one. Topped my last two bad customer service stories by a long shot! Still in shock. So, my thirteen year old had his bike stolen and we were going to BridgePedal in Portland and had nothing for him to ride. My good friend called me two days before and told me he found a perfect inexpensive bike at his favorite independent bike store (Bad Monkey) for $75 and I told him to snag it. My son was so exited and took it out for a spin and almost immediately hit a nail and got a flat. We knew this place was down the road and went down to see if he could fix a flat, as BridgePedal was in the morning. We arrived during open hours and shop was open, but locked. A woman in front told me the owner had just walked to the Minute Mart next door. So, my son and I stood there for ten minutes waiting. I'd always prefer to support independents and figured it would be worth the wait. When he returned he scowled at me and didn't even greet me as he unlocked the store. We were standing there with our bike, obviously waiting for him. I smiled and said, "Hello, we are going to BridgePedal tomorrow and my son just got this bike and immediately got a flat and we were hoping you could do a quick tire change?" He responded, "I will not service junk like that. You will have to take it elsewhere, as I won't let it into the store." I was completely shocked and surprised and found myself responding, "I'm sorry, his nice bike was stolen recently and I just flew in to do BridgePedal and my friend picked this up so we could do this together as father and son. Are you sure you can't?" He responded, "Fine, but the bike isn't allowed in the store, so take off the tire". I looked at it and saw it didn't have a quick release and said, "Thank you - can I grab a tool to take off tire?" His response, "On second thought, forget it. You are contributing to the downfall of America by purchasing a bike at WalMart. You clearly don't care about us independents. We've been here for decades and are an original Schwinn dealership. That was a quality brand before vultures bought the brand and started making cheap bikes. Go somewhere else with your cheap bike." We left. My poor son was so happy that he had a replacement bike. A like new Mongoose bought an independent bike shop. He needed it to ride back and forth to his best friends house. Would we like to replace his expensive bike, sure, but we can't now and there is no reason to be treated like crap as a customer for no reason. We look the bike downtown to Bad Monkey. They were slammed and had a huge line, yet without hearing our story or anything they fixed it on the spot. I'd say with service like this the business definitely won't last and giving them any business is contributing to downfall of good service and friendly neighborhood stores in America and he gives every independent trying to survive a bad name. read more

Awesome to walk into a bike shop and not feel the scowl of pretentious hipster employees boring into me! Great little shop! The friendly couple who own the place work together and are happy to help you out! They informed me that the shop had been in Vancouver for quite some time, and that they were able to take it over not quite 2 years ago, as the original owner had retired. Their prices are very reasonable. You might have to wait a bit if someone is before you as it's just them. They installed some green slime in my tires, replaced some ill-fitting brake pads, lubed me up a bit, and got me back on the road! I picked up some new lights as well. They are very kind and caring. They prefer cash or check, but took my card anyway. Thanks Schroeder's! read more

Take your bike somewhere else. You do not want to support this business. It is not the same shop that's been here for years. It was recently bought (2years ago) and is under new management. The man was absolutely rude and had no business etiquette what so ever. I felt like I was bothering him as he would not address most of my question. I could tell he was getting frustrated with my questions as I wanted to know what kind of parts he would put on my bike cause I was open to options. He told me it would take 3 weeks for him to get to my bike. I asked if there were any other local shops I could take my bike to and he said to look in the phone book. He was very short with his answers and not very helpful. So I wheeled my bike out and that's the last time I'll set foot in that shop. Please take your business else where. I called one am to ask if this store would replace my sons broken bike chain. The owner said yes. As soon as I entered the store the man rudely said "I usually don't fix these dime store bikes." I asked if he would still be willing to replace the chain, I am willing to pay for parts and service. In front of my 9 year old son, he said, "no. I don't waste my time on these things." Then tore up the service ticket and threw it in the trash and rudely said, "did you buy this for him?" As mine and my sons eyes welled with tears, I covered my sons ears and said' "yes. it was a Christmas present. Please don't talk like that. Your hurting his feelings and mine." This man basically called my sons favorite thing a piece of junk. Ive never felt so small and been so offended in my life. I wasn't asking for his opinion, I was there to pay for a service. Its like taking a dress to be hemmed and the seamstress saying, "no. its an ugly cheap dress. I refuse to work on it". This man is judgmental, and rude to mothers and children. Mr. Schroeder who owned this shop was a great human being and it is a shame to see someone with a terrible attitude and lousy work in his place. I much prefer Bad Monkey bikes but wanted to support my neighborhood bike shop. I took my bike in because the brake cable had detached. Instead of just reattaching it, it became that I needed a new cable and adjustment which I allowed. I was told the work was guaranteed. When I got home a quarter mile later it was squeaking loudly & I found the brake pad was now rubbing on the tire & the cable was 'adjusted to where it wouldn't release on that side. The cable was cut so short it couldn't be adjusted. Although he had attempted to not give me a receipt I did have one. When I called the number on it I got a fax screech. I managed to find another number & voicemail was full. The next day after a few tries I was able to leave a message that was never returned. Today I drove there to find out when I could bring it in as his hours are very inconsistent. After waiting he took a break in his chit chat to start berating me for not having the bike with me before I ever said hello. Said he doesn't respond to his phone at all because he doesn't want to be bothered by people. Denied having put a cable on my bike & even after finding his copy of the receipt said he would not fix it because it couldn't have been his work. That he didn't care what kind of reputation be has as he has more work then he needs. That he had only been helping me out. Don't go here! Go to Bad Monkey or maybe Vancouver Cyclery Maybe if this guy spends enough time sitting around he will be happy for a customer & not consider it a bother or a favor & might even figure out how to work on bikes. Oh & don't stop there for air because he & his wife will grip your valve with pliers & start stretching even when you ask them to stop. read more
