Allow me to start this with a profile of who I am and my interactions: I have only been in this shop 3 times in the past 10 years and let me defend that by saying that I live 1,000s of miles away from Portland. Okay... each visit I have made here has been flawless. PDX is a bike town, that's no secret... so competition is stiff and I have my favorite LBSs, for sure... this happens to be one of them. I am thankful that they carry Selle Italia products. Namely, the SLR Ti Superflow saddle I wanted. They even took time to ensure I was purchasing the proper width saddle. In other popular cycling stores in Portland I have been ignored and dismissed which led to buying things that didn't work for me. These guys are legit. I came for a long weekend to Portland with my Ritchey breakaway. The hydraulic brake coupler leaked and the fluid got on my disc brake pad. The mechanics were crazy busy and said they could bleed the brakes that day. They didn't have any Shimano brake bleed kits in stock. So the owner put together a brake bleed kit for me to rent. That kind of service is found very much anymore. These are the kind of people that make you want to come back to do business again and again. Thanks!!!!! read more

I was looking for a very specific gravel bike and Cyclepath was one of the only places in Portland that had it. When I went in to check it out, I knew I was in the right place. Lots of high-end mountain, road, and gravel bikes from a perfectly curated selection of brands. If you want a crazy custom build they will trick out your perfect ride, but I was cool with something off-the-shelf. It doesn't matter how much you're spending, everyone gets their undivided attention. The mechanics take the time to walk you through everything they're doing and the shop manager takes a very no-pressure approach to selling. These guys just love bikes and want to get you on the right one. I've been in several times for a few odds and ends and my 1-year tuneup was on the house. Be sure to pet the shop dog and grab a beer while you're looking around. read more

I have become a regular here since I live nearby. Their prices are at the upper end of some shops but so is their selection and quality. Everyone on the floor is really helpful and truly cyclists as well so I feel I can trust their reviews and opinions. They are small enough so you feel taken care of and not rushed to make a decision. I brought my Cervelo R3 road bike here to get a second opinion on some questionable work done on the bike at another shop. Cyclepath was very easy to work with and actually quickly fixed the other shop's mistake while I waited! I was so impressed I brought it back the following week for a drive train clean service and a few other things. Their prices were extremely reasonable and they clearly know what they are doing in their service department. Can this week end already? It has been a week of bad juju for me and me ending up at CyclePath is hopefully getting closer to the end of it. Last Sunday morning my bike got stolen, I got a temporary replacement but it needed a tune-up. Wednesday, I got sideswiped on the Hawthorne bridge by the turnoff. I'm ok and I didn't even come off the bike. How the driver didn't see a huge orange Caviar backpack, I'll never know. Friday evening I got stung by a wasp in my backyard on my earlobe. And to top it all off, I caught a flat later in the evening and it is how I ended up at CyclePath and the good folks there. Zack was the guy the helped me out and because I was a little short on $$, he threw some good karma my way after I explained my haphazard week. I paid for labor and next week I'll take care of the tube. I had a few other adjustments to make which I will take care of at my regular shop but I'm glad these guys were open later than other shops. This is hands down the best shop in the PNW. First of all, the employees were very helpful. I never felt pressured, they know their bikes, and it did not have a pretentious vibe despite all the high end bikes and gear you see in the shop. They have all my favorite mtb brands: Evil, Pivot, Transition, and Yeit. Most importantly, they have them in stock so you are actually able to demo and make sure the fit is right. Most shops that I have been to usually don't have all the sizes available. They let me demo even though it was raining and I brought the bike back dirty. I am from Seattle, but decided to buy my bike here mainly because of the great customer service and of course the tax break LOL. The bike frame I eventually decided on was not in stock but they had a complete built bike in stock. They offered to remove the components from the bike and sell me the frame. That is what you call customer service. Cyclepath has a new lifelong customer as long as Bill owns the shop. Mitchell, Zach, and Cody were also amazing and provided the best customer service in the bike industry. They were patient despite my many phone calls! read more

A great, top shelf shop in NE Portland. The selection of Road, Cross and MTB rides is very well rounded, with nary a dud in the lot. I recently brought a cross bike in for a build and was very, very pleased with the result. Every ride is a treat, largely thanks to their work. Cyclepath is a higher end shop with all the good trinkets. What sets them apart in my book is the care taken with the service. When they ran into some issues with my build they took the time to walk me through the situation and give me options. Leaving a network of friends and moving to a new place is daunting enough but starting a new soul burning adventure makes it bewildering when you go at it alone. After countless visits to other bike shops, my phone conversation with Zack peeked my interest by his passion and unapologetic opinions on the brands and why Cyclepath stands behind them. Also Zack's phone rant was clearly evident that the dude loves not just Mountain Biking but his shop as well. My curiosity peeked. I stopped in a couple of days later after a few other bike visits ( sorry ) but catching a few videos in the mean time on Pivot and some awesome videos on Cycle Path and the owner Bill's collaboration I thought there must be something there. Very next day I come by and to my surprise the team is talking me out of making a mistake and going to big on a purchase. Mitch, a former Chicagoan and their awesome shop dogs made me feel at home and were full of knowledge and just easy going as I thought things through. I was still apprehensive and untrusting so I needed to sleep on it as lets be real this is the biggest purchase I've made in awhile. Came back a couple days later, and Sam came through with helping me and we discussed an email Bill (owner) replied back to regarding questions I had. Sam spent hours not only guiding me through his thoughts but I was floored by how dialed he was in to make sure the bike I went with was not only right for me but tuned just right. I mean he went above and beyond. When I thought I was satisfied he kept adjusting wanting to ensure I started off on the right pedal if you will, haha. These guys spent hours with me that final day and I've never received such care and welcomeness in a long time. Long story short, I'm glad I stopped in, met the crew, our dogs partied in the shop, I have my first MTB, and I believe Cycle Path is a very special place. Unapologetically expensive, but they carry only top of the line - with the ability to get you anything you want/afford. I have had the same negative experience (as a couple others) but from way back, the crew now is not the elitist attitude type. Wife got a bike from them in 2018 (fall), good experience. I started replacing components on my "vintage" downhill rig this winter (my god how quickly technology changes, despite the frame actually being a decade old now) w/ wheels being my first stop - and budgetary venture. Michael knows what he's talking about, and he is willing to stop and actually discuss bikes, components & the industry. Never pushed towards the most expensive components out there (actually steered away from) but the most useful for the project & intent. The final product (front wheel first ) was stellar - orange spokes never looked so good. It really is true love for wheels - artiste ‍ If you got money to burn, they will gladly supply you w/ the Ferrari you want; if you're a diy builder who knows they want 5 different brands of a component, because of different attributes, these guys get to show you why they're the best (I haven't been to every bike shop in Pdx, but most that cater to the heavier stuff are chock full of d-bags) supplying all the pros & cons of each choice - sometimes things come down to who has the better warranty service or lack of needing to warranty because it just works. My battery started losing significant range after a year and a half on my Pivot shuttle and I was in dire need of a new one. So I contacted my local pivot dealer but they couldn't help me with a new warranty battery. They said there was nothing they could do and that I would have to buy a new battery for $1000. So I contacted Cyclepath PDX and talked to Mark Johnson and explained to him the battery issues. So he went to work and got me some results. He did what other bike shops couldn't do by getting me a new battery under warranty and with urgency. So I wanna personally thank Mark Johnson for going the extra mile and effort and making something happen when nobody else could. Reviewer: Not a local i live in San Jose CA I dealt with Michael primarily over email and a couple phone calls to make payments. I got one of the first Specialized Demo 8 of 2017 which had front boost 110mm x 20mm through axle front and 135mm x 12mm through axel rear. My local bike shop took ~3 months trying to get me a wheel set to fit those requirements. Frustrated i found Cyclopath on the internet and started emailing. within 2 weeks i had wheels built to my specification(hub, rim, spokes laced in color pattern, tubeless) on my bike and rolling. I recently picked up a vintage Klein Performance frame that I wanted built up into a killer touring bike. The guys did not disappoint :) They spent time talking me through a lot of options as I wanted this done right. We settled on Phil Wood bottom bracket, Chris King threaded headset, shimano 105 brakes/derailieurs/cassette, Dura Ace down tube shifters,SRAM brake levers and Apex crankset, DTswiss hubs and Mavi open pro rims. I could not be happier with the whole experience and the final build is a joy to ride. I will share pictures in due course. I bought a new cross bike yesterday from Cyclepath, and had a great experience both times I visited the shop. A friend of mine who rides for the shop's racing team recommended them to me. I'm a longtime mountain biker but am completely new to cross/road riding so I wasn't quite sure what to look for. During my initial visit a few weeks ago, one of the staff spent a long time with me explaining the various options for bikes and components nd helped me better understand the differences and similarities between mountain bikes and cross bikes. He was super helpful without any sort of attitude, and didn't push me to make a decision as I wasn't quite ready to buy yet. Afterwards I checked out a few other shops around town where I got less help and more attitude and condescension. Yesterday I decided to pull the trigger on a Scott bike and returned to Cyclepath. I took the bike out for a test ride, and took a spill after getting a stick caught in the spokes which banged up the bike a bit. When I got back and told the sales guy about it, his first question was not "How's the bike?" but rather "Are you OK?". He also made a few adjustments to the bike that he said would help ease the transition from riding a mountain bike. I would highly recommend this shop. They carry a lot of high-end bikes and know their stuff, but they're also down-to-earth enough to help a new rider like me get into a great bike. This will be my first stop when I'm shopping for my next bike. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a lifetime cyclist who hasn't bought a bike for himself since 1990. I tend to build my bikes myself. I even build the wheels. But, this time I was going to see how everyone else does it. I wanted a bike that was only carried by CyclePath in PDX (Niner) and so while they were a long ways away, I had to make the trek. When I first went shopping, they didn't interfere or try and upsell me or anything and they told the truth rather than just telling me what I wanted to hear. Niner's don't come to the shop mostly assembled, the shop has to assemble them before they can be used. I can't find a flaw in their assembly. The price was reasonable as well. Six months down the road, I had a broken spoke and I also had broken the derailleur hangar(my fault). They fixed the spoke under warranty and fixed the hangar and adjusted the shifting for a grand total of $24.00. I couldn't have been happier. read more

As others have said, don't expect to find doorbuster prices. They do fill a niche here in Portland, which is mid to higher end gravel/mountain bike products and service, and they have very high end knowledge to go with it. When I had them trim and install a handlebar for me, the charge was a just little more than I was hoping, but when one of the guys chatted bikes and trails with me for 10+ min, past closing time, it was easily worth it. read more

High-end bicycles with high-end attitude. I think they display stuff that's less than $50 as a way of profiling you. So when you ask about it, they all go into "poor people shopping mode" and hide from you...or at least turn up the attitude. If you didn't roll up in something that rhymes with Audi, Land Rover, Mercedes, etc you're not gonna get any real help. That's too bad for them. I've managed a bike shop for almost 2 years...and no, it wasn't back in the 70's...it was like 3 months ago. I've also had to bite my tongue as I've met people who have bought bikes for WAY more money than they should have from these folks. I'm not condoning buying bikes on the interweb so as to destroy our local economy but gouge you, and gouge you good these guys will. Bottom line, next time we hear about trapped miners on the news, call up the staff at CyclePath to help. If they can gouge you in their store, think about how far they could tunnel down to help people who could actually die. read more

Kick ass custom bikes with kick ass personal service. To my knowledge there are 3 employees here, and 2 of them own it. that means great service and great craftsmanship. I purchased a one-of-a-kind Mountain Cycle Stumptown here several months ago and got to go in, pick out what parts I wanted, and 2 days later got to watch my bike get built. by the way a great way to kill 3 hours. they are artists with their builds here. nothing but custom builds here, with a wide variety of styles and frames to choose from, Josh and his team know their shit. read more

The people that work here are extremely knowledgeable and helpful without a hint of snobbishness. This is definitely a higher-end bike shop, but they do still have some more reasonable options. I worked with Michael at CyclePath to get a custom pair of 27.5 MTB wheels built--he was a pleasure to work with both over e-mail and in person. He is clearly very knowledgeable and was happy to give me his input on rims, spokes, nipples, and lacing pattern without pressuring me one way or another. There was an unfortunate mix-up with the specs on the hubs that we realized after he built the wheels. Michael graciously agreed to rebuilt them at no charge, and they were ready the next day. I know it's no fun for a wheelbuilder to redo a pair of otherwise perfect wheels but it made a big difference to me. I definitely recommend this shop for your custom wheel builds. read more

I ride and race bikes but know virtually nothing about them. Everyone at the shop was patient, taking the time to help build a bike within my budget that I can love for years. I've been debating between tri bikes and a new road bike but get a bit intimidated and overwhelmed. They helped talk me through the pros/cons without trying to pressure me into any one (absurdly expensive) option. One especially cool offering they have is "test saddles" so that I could be sure I'd be comfortable on long-haul endurance training days. The deposit on the saddle is taken off the price which worked out well. I was out for a century ride on the new saddle and still love my bike so it was the right choice.
