UPDATE: After receiving a full refund of the purchase price of my bike from the manufacturer following this incident, I have increased my one star review to three stars. This is because I still have to ding the place two stars for two things. NO ESTIMATE The Beeline confirmation email promises an evaluation and an estimate before work begins. I never received an estimate. This whole dispute began as a billing dispute after Lectric eBikes refused to pay for all the warranty work and additional work was done. Had I been given an estimate listing additional jobs I could have objected then and a lot of confusion could have been avoided. Had I been given an estimate listing work Lectric was refusing to pay for I could have complained to Lectric. Instead, I was told how much Lectric would pay but not for which items or why they refused. This effectively leaves consumers in my position unable to constructively contest the bill. For promising estimates and not providing them I am subtracting one star. CALLING THE POLICE When I refused to pay a padded bill that Lectric had already agreed to pay, this shop tried to hold my bike hostage in order to get the money. That is highly inappropriate when dealing with manufacturers that you have a service partnership with. Everything Lectric and Beeline sends out in reference to shops like this uses the phrase "service partner" or similar language. Eventually I just took my bike and left only to get a call from the police later saying that this seems like a civil matter but that I will get arrested for trespassing if I ever go back to Nomad Cycles. The police blotter recorded the call as a theft complaint. That might have been appropriate had I not taken my own bike and the bill in question not included a combination of unauthorized charges and charges their service partner agreed to pay for in advance. Plus, I called Lectric the following Monday and tried my best to get them to pay Nomad Cycles what they claim to be owed. Thieves typically don't walk into a shop in broad daylight with no disguise, let the staff know exactly who they are, and try their best to get any debts owed of any paid by those that actually owe the money. For calling the cops I am docking this shop one star. CHANGE OF HEART I received a full refund of over $1,000 from Lectric eBikes because I took the bike from the shop and rode it just 4 times afterwards. That was all it took to suffer catastrophic drive train failure. Despite that, the bike still works in throttle only mode with no chain. It turns out that such failures are common when combining a new derailleur with an old worn out chain but nobody ever told me that. Unfortunately, the next time out the folding latch on the frame opened up on me 4 times. This was enough for Lectric to declare the bike unsafe to ride and offer the refund. I also think there may have been a misunderstanding with the owner of Nomad Cycles. When taking a glimpse at his internal notes it looked like he was accusing me of abusing the bike. That could explain why Lectric wasn't paying for all of it or why he wouldn't explain himself, but absent further proof those are just theories. What I do know is that Lectric promotes the bike for uses it wasn't built for which could make a reasonable professional in his position think that the customer had abused the bike. Lectric promotes its XP 3.0 model as an all terrain vehicle. Intended use is legally defined not just by product descriptions and what the bike's design is capable of. It is defined by what the manufacturer says it is for and how they promote it. For instance, Lectric shows XP 3.0 users riding offroad on sandy saltwater beaches, on gravel, in the desert, and across grass fields. That establishes that the bike is promoted for general offroad use. Then you have the blog post announcing the XP 3.0 which specifically says "tough terrain? no problem!" before saying that they're now adding tire sealant just in case. This makes reasonable consumers think that the bike is built not just for tough terrain but terrain so tough you need sealant just to avoid flat tires which makes the intended use of the Lectric XP 3.0 all terrain. read more

Really nice guy, helped me out and didn't even charge to check my rims and make sure everything was going smooth still. Definitely will be stopping by here again! Looked around for a place to get my E bike tuned up and landed on Nomad. I went to my bike manufacturing website and they listed Nomad as a suggested service shop and had a link to make an appointment. So I made an appointment through the link on the bike company website. Good thing I called Nomad because they had no record of it even though I had an email confrontation! But luckily they were able to get me in a few days later! I brought my bike in and after my initial encounter with the employees, I knew they were going to get a 3-4 star review. I had never been to Nomad, or literally any bike shop ever! And they were not very warm and welcoming. In fact, the mechanic who was working on a woman's bike seat when I walked in seemed very frustrated and not very nice at all. And I remember immediately thinking "it's 12:15 PM, they opened 15 minutes ago, how can this guy be so irritable so early in the day!?" Anyways I left my bike there and before leaving asked how long it would take. They said a few days. It ended up taking a week. However, when I picked the bike up, the two people working that day were super friendly and my bike is working great so they get a five stars! Absolutely avoid this shop. I had an e-bike that I brought in because the e-assist wasn't working. The shop contacted the company and got them to send a new battery and some other parts to try and fix it but it still wasn't working. They kept contacting the company and said that they don't make those parts anymore that I needed but they weren't even sure that it would fix anything if they got said parts. So after calling just about every month they finally after over a year decided they couldn't fix it and asked me to come pick up the e-bike. So I admittedly did wait a couple of months before coming back because I was busy and didn't have a vehicle to transport it. I came by to pick it up and turns out they threw it away. Someone called me and claimed that they called me to warn me before throwing it out which is an absolute lie. I have my phone records that prove that they never did call me after the initial phone call message in July asking me to pick it up. In that voicemail, which I also still have, they didn't say it needed to be picked up with any time frame or by any date. This is something they also lied about in the phone call to me. So the person who called me said they were about to throw away 5 broken bikes and I could have those to make up for it. I found this to be very insulting. They threw away my bike without letting me know and also lied several times on the phone to me. That kind of dishonesty and shadiness is why no one should go to this shop ever. read more

I'm so grateful I found this place! Bike shops can be intimidating for beginners. This place does an incredible job of welcoming you, educating you, and finding you the best deal and fastest way to get back on the road. I dropped off my e-bike at 1pm, it was ready by 3pm! A few different employees helped me while I was here, every one of them was smiling and efficiently working to get everyone's needs met (there were quite a few people needing repairs during my drop off/pickup). The owner, Brad, is also a kind human who does community work to make portland greener, bikes more accessible, and actively speaks about the importance of protecting our lands and recognizing the natives who used to be here. 100/10 recommend this place to any other queers/women/anyone who wants a safe space to get your repairs done! read more

I have a hand cycle with a Bionix motor. The Bionix company has gone out of business. I went to about 4 different e-bike shops in the Portland area. None of them could give me any viable solutions. Everyone pointed me to Brad at Nomad cycles as the one capable of putting a motor on my cycle. He had the solution for me! It took a while because of logistics and mail mix up coming from Canada. I now have my hand cycle back with a lot more power and zip!! I am looking forward to a lot of riding this coming year! This is a great small local business. I recently bought an ebike online and the battery lock was jammed upon arrival (sigh). I also needed a bike rack put on. I took it to a bigger bike shop on Sandy because they assured me over the phone they could fix it. When I got there, turns out they couldn't (or wouldn't? Not sure. The service guy was very rude) fix the battery lock but they could put on the rack, which they installed at an odd angle and said told me it was fine (sigh)... So I stopped in at Nomad to ask about the battery. They were able to drill out the lock and replace it with the parts I brought. Brad also noticed my wonky bike rack and was able to install it so that it was level. It is so nice when you find a shop with skilled and personable staff and can make your ebike headache go away! Made me wish I had bought my bike from him. I will certainly come back for anything else my ebike needs. read more

I was very happy with my experience with Nomad Cycles PDX. I had purchased a Bafang-motor Catrike used from a reputable place in Central Oregon, but the battery went dead shortly after purchase. No one in Central Oregon could fix it, so we made the three-hour trip to Portland during the pandemic. Brad Davis tested the trike thoroughly and replaced the battery. Not only did he do that, he went beyond to tighten up all the cords and wires and install a new boost lever I didn't know had been missing. He did all this in one day so we could drive back home that afternoon. Brad is an excellent ebike expert and provides courteous and top- notch service. I highly recommend him! read more
