The Schodack Diner opened at the 9 &20 split about two months ago, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. This Greek diner is a much needed addition to the limited dining choices in this area (mostly pizza places and fast food). The inside of this diner has a comfortable and family friendly atmosphere, which is brand spanking new, very clean, and modern with two spacious dining rooms (one of them fully carpeted), new furnishings, comfortable booths, table seating, counter seating and tile floors. I like the color theme which is a nice refreshing sea green, the same color as one of my former cars. The menu offerings and specials are quite extensive. The breakfast menu (served anytime) offerings include egg dishes, sandwiches, a good variety of 3 egg omelettes, pancakes, French toast, cereal, and breakfast sides. Note: Belgian waffles and eggs benedict are served only until 1PM. The regular menu offerings include salads, soups, appetizers, sandwiches (grilled, deli, hot), triple decker clubs, wraps, burgers, steaks, chops, chicken, ham, Italian dinners, Greek specialties, gyros, seafood (broiled/fried), triple crown dinners (surf & turf), and homemade desserts. The prices here are reasonable, sandwich platters under $10 and most dinners $10-$20 range. The lobster tail entrees are higher. Pepsi fountain drinks served here and they also have a full bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails. There's also a kids menu and a special senior citizen menu available. I stopped in for dinner on a cloudy Saturday evening around 4:45PM. I was greeted by the owner as I entered, who I informed I was doing a review for Yelp (I gave out a You've Been YELPED card, handed out at official Yelp events). The friendly hostess seated me in a comfortable and spacious booth. I ordered the Greek Moussaka ($10.95) which came with soup or salad and dinner roll & butter. I started out with a cup of Veggie Mac Soup, which was really good and had a mix of carrots, potato, celery, & elbows in a tomato base broth. The dinner roll was soft and very chewy. The Greek Moussaka arrived to my table, served in a casserole dish, piping hot inside and out. This dish was very tasty and one of the best I've had in a long while, which had layers of potato, eggplant, fresh zucchini, and seasoned ground beef, topped with a thick layer of bechemel cream sauce. This Moussaka was NOT greasy, which I really appreciate since eating greasy foods is getting old for me. For dessert, I ordered a Blueberry Pie ala Mode ($3.65) and it was served very warm, as requested with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The pie was very good, loaded with sweet blueberries in a flaky crust. The service was spot-on and very attentive. The food was served in a timely manner and I got several top-offs on my ice water and was checked on often by my friendly waitress. The nice owner was very informative about her brand new diner and gave me permission to take some photos posted for this review. Completely acceptable diner food, hot and relatively fast, but without distinguishing characteristics other than that the newly reopened restaurant is still pretty clean and shiny as diners go. This is more American-style (as opposed to Greek) in approach and menu but doesn't have much in the way of unique offerings near as we could tell. Previous reviews prior to late 2015 should probably be discarded, as this place was closed up for quite a while and is open under new ownership. The one major problem here is the location, which is essentially on an exit ramp (a divided lane exit lane) from Route 20 onto 9. This means you can only safely enter the parking lot coming from the west, and when you exit you are dumped on Route 9 south and have to find a parking lot or driveway further down the road in which to turn around if you are heading in any direction other than Route 9 south. The management really needs to put up even more signs about this, including specific suggestions about how to get to 20 East and West, for the safety of drivers/customers who are not familiar with the intersection. I can see this as being a particular hazard in the dark. All in all definitely worth a stop if you're in the area, but not a destination. read more

We had a perfectly fine experience as we drove from Boston to Buffalo. Very quiet around 2:30 on a Thurs. afternoon with some interesting clientele. Quite a large menu but we just split a huge spinach salad and yummy tuna melt. The salad could have looked a little better but it tasted good and we had nice service so no complaints. Stopped there for dinner on our way home from visiting the New York State Museum in Albany. The staff were friendly, helpful, and the place was very clean, even the bathroom. The food was excellent. It was so good I am planning on going there again tomorrow morning for breakfast. I will be back in the area again in July and I am planning on making that my regular location for eating when I don't want to cook. They have a great selection of food and the prices are better than most; not the most expensive, but not the least either. I had the 12 ounce steak and 6 ounce lobster and it came with soup, salad, vegetables, and potato. I didn't want any soup and asked if I could switch it out for a vegetable and the waitress suggested coleslaw. That too was very tasty. While we were there a family came in with a two or three year old, who was not very happy. Their waitress and another employee came over and gave the young child a picture to color with crayons and made the little fellow feel happy again. This is a nice dinner in Schodack and definitely worth stopping in to. This restaurant has been around for about 10 years and the food is consistent. Last time I ate here I had the beef gyro and it was good. I have never seen the place packed and it is in a peculiar place where 9 and 20 split. If you are familiar with this place it is difficult to get in and out because of it's location. But it is close to where I live so it's convient for me. read more

Only came in for breakfast Thanksgiving weekend, but had an EXCELLENT veggie omelette, and equally appealing breakfast options were had by the rest of our party of six, including a great looking stack of pancakes and yummy looking french toast... Loved the endless coffee refills and the fact that we were never hurried out of there, as we were a group of old friends w/ a lot of catching up (and good eating!) to do... An overview of the rest of their menu made me hungry all over again, and if we had stayed much longer, I'm sure we'd have had a wonderful lunch as well!! 1st time back since the new ownership...like the last time I went...there were only a few cars in the parking lot so I figured why not give it a shot! Alas...the service was slow but friendly...food took too long (especially since it was all but empty when I got there) I had a hankering for pancakes...which are rarely prepared at home. Was good...had to ask for "real maple syrup" but at least they had some (extra charge...worth it to me). Very good link sausage and coffee were the best parts. All in all...give it a B-. I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. I had the souvlaki chicken pita and it was so delicious! Clearly the fries are homemade as was the intensely flavorful tzesitski sauce. The burgers looked amazing. My husband had the chicken parm panini which was also delicious. read more

I will travel there to eat there more often. Exiting parking lot to go back to exit 11,north or east is difficult because the state/town changed that you cannot turn left at the point. Great diner in East Greenbush at the intersection where Routes 9 and 20 meet. Parking lot is difficult to navigate, particularly when you leave since you have to go south on Route 9 and then turn around if you want to go north or east. Say what you want about the Schodack diner but let me tell you this place has a lot going for it. It's a diner that does food and does it well. They have a huge menu and all cheaper than other diners. Some favorites are the pizza omelet, turkey club (which is huge) and the pancakes deluxe. I eat there every Friday wth the my kids--great friendly staff, huge menu. The menu is endless, every time I go there I try something different and never am disappointed. You can't beat the breakfast options, huge omelettes, thick slices of french toast, and excellent coffee. The portions are great, you will never leave hungry. Service is quick and the waitresses are friendly which amuses me for some reason. The place is clean, with large mirrors in the back. I am especially impressed with their restrooms, the marble walls and floors... I can say that they smell like soap in comparison to other places I've been to. read more

Ate dinner there last night and had meat loaf while my wife had a Ruben panini. I would give it 3.5 - 4 stars. The food was good and there was plenty to eat. The service was excellent. The new owner came around and gave us desert on him. Staff greeted you when you came in and said thanks when you left. My only complaint was that the food could have been hotter. I've tried so hard to like this place. It's almost always empty when I go, and after eating here 5+ times in the past month I've figured out why. Food is so unbelievably inconsistent, as is service. Their menu is huge, and their ingredients are often stale. My main qualm is with the way they overcharged my credit card. At Schodack diner, the food is what you can expect to find at a typical diner. It was good and came out in a timely manner. The facilities are clean as well. The most important thing to note was that our waitress, Dawn, made our experience extremely pleasant. She was very attentive and friendly. She apologized about the wait time for our food, which we didn't even think was that long at all. This place failed for all the right reasons. Just look at the reviews and how the manager or owner whoever it is responds to peoples bad reviews by attacking them. If that's not a clear warning I don't know what is. Its very sad to see what happened here because we were so happy to have a diner open close by. The burger was obviously a frozen patty and I think it came with about 10 french fries. The soda also came in a tiny glass. I think it was a juice glass.
