I spent several months researching leather sofas. The sectional I had bought before this couch and love seat combo was something called bonded leather and the whole thing peeled. I finally found some beautiful leather sofas at Plummer's (which is now Scandinavian designs.) I ended up spending close to $4000 for a sofa and loveseat. I have had them four years now. Every time I look at them I want to scream because they look terrible. The leather started peeling at a little more than a years worth of use and underneath is this bright red plastic looking stuff. I took out all my paperwork and the only thing they warranty was the structure of the couch not the fabric and it's my word against theirs that they told me it was leather and not bonded. I would never shop there again and I would never recommend anyone I know shop there so buyer beware. I got bonded leather that they passed off as high quality leather and my $4000 sofa and loveseat within less than two years looked terrible. read more

Scandinavian Designs - This is just a small area but you get the picture. This is how my $4,000 couched started looking after a year and a half. - Furniture Stores Near Me - Encinitas, California

Plummers is like a high end IKEA, especially when it comes to their bedroom furniture. When I first moved to San Diego, I bought my queen bed, nightstand and chest, and queen mattress, it easily cost me $1400. After just one move, pieces started to fall apart since they are assembled together w/ these cheap screw on joints and low quality, pressed sawdust. Don't be fooled by their great looking modern designs. Pros: Great modern looking furniture Cons: Items priced about 2--4x higher than IKEA. Low quality, made to assemble furniture w/ poor insructions read more

The first thing I noticed about this place is that it has fantastic contemporary furniture. The second is that the salespersons don't pressure you at all. They're very helpful and knowledgeable. This makes for a wonderful shopping experience. My latest shopping trip was for a sectional. We ended up buying a six piece sectional with three power recliner sections. The sale, delivery and setup went smooth and trouble free. read more

We were visiting from Northern California. Wanted to buy a living room chair, but told they wouldn't sell floor model. I would have to wait 5 days for it to be ordered. No matter that I was leaving in 3 days. No matter that they could re-order and have the new one for themselves, only being without the floor model for a couple of days. Talked to 2 different sales people and they were both quick to shut us down; not willing to even discuss it. Had the cash in hand. All the other furniture stores we visited said no problem, everything is for sale. And you can't buy anything from Plummers online, only in the local stores. Doesn't do us much good when we're several hours away. In this economy, you'd think they would want to move stock as quickly as possible. Not Plummers. Guess they don't need our business. read more

I had a worse experience with Plummers. I talked to Dave. He was the rudest and very unprofessional person. I placed an order for a chair and talked to the manager for warranty. They gave me a written warranty that didn't say much about what is covered in it. I ask for more details and was told they will not give anything in written about what is covered. Than my order got delayed by a week. I asked for some good faith discount for the inconvenience caused to me. But no again a rude answer I tried to get hold of Aart the manager but was never able to get him on the phone read more

Love this place! Great quality product. You get what you pay for so it is not the cheapest, but the extra expense is well worth it. Purchased the Luke coffee table and already have 2 other pieces picked out for my next purchases. Can't wait to go back! read more

I bought a media console and a set of dining chairs. Everything came quickly and is absolutely beautiful. After many hours of online searching I found products here that met my needs which I couldn't find elsewhere. The media cabinet was wide enough for my Scrabble box at 18 inches. I couldn't find another one in white anywhere with that width, beauty and price. The chairs are also one of a kind, in two-tone teal and gray. They are unique and everybody who sees them says wow! The salesman who worked with me was funny and helpful and a joy to deal with. The prices and styles are unbeatable. I will definitely shop there next time. read more

I have been shopping at Scandinavian Designs (SD) for 10 years. 90% of the furniture and art in the house I have purchased from SD. Note that I started with a vacant house, so the number of purchases is very large. I have always been able to find what I need at SD. On the few occasions when the merchandise turned out to be below par SD made the necessary repairs or replaced the item in question. I find the sales people to be very knowledgeable and helpful. The icing on the cake is that the store layout is great and always fun to go around the store and browse. If you like contemporary furniture, it is the place to shop in, since the selection is good and the prices reasonable. read more

Great office furniture, suuuuper heavy so something to consider. Minus one star for plastic casters on their filing cabinets.

We looked at pretty much all the furniture stores for a sectional and they were all too large and bulky for our space - Luckily we visited Scandinavian Designs store and they had a great collection of sectionals for all space types and priced really reasonable for the quality and design. Really happy for the purchase and flawless fast delivery. read more

Just an update...we returned to Scandinavian Designs to purchase a "Stress-less Recliner." It was Art's day off, yet he answered his cell phone and spent a half-hour with me to explain all my options and his recommendation for the three models (out of about 2 dozen) that he thought I would like. He notified Kevin, one of his salesmen, on duty that we were heading to the store. When we got there, Kevin (a.k.a Clark Kent), was ready and waiting to help us. He, too, knows the furniture line and was friendly, professional and helped us. Kevin was able to have the exact chair on premise within a week. This chair was a replacement for another one on order from a competitor who couldn't deliver as promised -- in over 12 weeks. Ask to see Kevin's Superman tattoo on his chest to verify it is really Superman...I swear it is. He won't disappoint. read more

Though we ended up refusing our bedroom furniture several times due to manufacturer defects we still like this place, a lot. The furniture was made in Oregon but we had bad luck since there was always an imperfection (minor but visible) with the finish. They have great European sofas, sectionals, floor lamps (which we bought) etc - wish we had seen their selection before we bought our sofa at Macy's. Super friendly staff, easy to park- read more

There are many occasions as an interior designer and professional home stager, that I shop retail furniture stores in a pinch. This particular location of this store not only displays their product in an easy to shop manner, but their sales staff, in particular both Kevin and Art, have proven to be consummate professionals. Both have given their time and energy to help me find that perfect piece and to make sure that I get the best price possible. Art has gone above and beyond with his customer service, insuring that not only am I looked after, but my own clients are as well. Thank you for going the extra mile and proving that true customer service is alive! read more

We purchased a sofa set and coffee table at the local store. Due to delays in shipping, the delivery was a bit late but the sales team at the store were very helpful in keeping us informed. Love this Furniture Store!! Kimo was very professional and helpful. Saw the Bolig Bed on an billboard in Point Loma. I looked it up online, decided I need to go check it out. It's a beautiful bed, with nice clean lines and we love the simplicity of the wood. I also purchased a nightstand and the leaning bookshelf nightstand. Love all the pieces and my guest room looks amazing. I highly recommend Scandanavian Design make sure you ask for Kimo! T. Simon read more

I love this store. My husband and I bought an amazing leather couch from there -- the San Diego store -- and bought a beautiful glass and metal shelf unit in another store. I'm going back to San Diego to look for nightstands. Whenever we're buying furniture or even wall décor, we head to Scandinavian. The salespeople are friendly, knowledgeable, and put no pressure on you. If you like the clean lines and well made furniture, you can't go wrong here. read more

I love their designs and furnitures, but such a horrible customer service and experience! I ordered few items over the phone, went in for a pick up after a week, next thing you know, salesman couldn't locate my items because the order never went through (of course, they drew money right out of my banking account, five stars on that! Fantastic!). Their manager showed up and offered free delivery. Fine. But guess what? They shipped a wrong item! How hard is it? Come on now! All the sales personnel should be familiar with their furniture and their names too. Never again Scandinavian. Going back to Ethan Allen and RH. read more

I always love the contemporary furniture looks . I bought furniture here fews year ago and very pleased. And the price are not much more than other furniture stores . They are modern and quality. So I went back , nothing changes !. I am very happy with the services. Kevin Zirbel helped me . He is very nice , friendly and professional. I want to see the chair fabric color under the sun . He bring every one I like for me to see . At the end , I already decided what I want , and paid for it , but still doubt about something. He ask me would I like to see the sample , then show me . What's a service ! . If you like contemporary furniture, this is the place for you to buy . I will cone back here in a heartbeat when I need furniture. read more

I started replacing my home furnishings 20 years ago from their shop in Berkeley CA. The good quality and timeless design of their dining table, chairs and leather sofa still impresses guests. So delighted that they are now in La Jolla as I needed another reading chair and a couple of rugs and end tables. Delightful store and excellent assistance on the floor. read more

Kimo the salesperson helped my wife and I find the furniture we were looking all over town for. We were on the verge of settling for something that was just better than what we currently had. We were amazed to find exactly what what we were looking for here and was also able to get the the items purchased delivered within the same week! I did have a slight issue with one of my couches and Dave reordered a new one to replace it with no issues. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. read more

I have been to ALL the furniture stores on line and in SD. This store has by far the best quality for the price. The designs are beautiful. If you want to chose something that will last....the price won't be much different from the cheap stuff. The salesperson was great..I told him what we were looking for...he showed us all the options in the store...no pressure or hassle. We left and he gave us the info to call in and order over the phone.....which makes it Very easy. We went to 2 other stores...this was the Best. We got home and I called. If you like, as I do, the clean lines and stylish look of Scandinavian furniture, you should enjoy just browsing around this store. It is well made and priced reasonably. The sales people don't pressure you. Kevin in particular went out of his way to help me with a quandary I was having and thanks to his flexibility I ended up with just what I wanted. They have a very good selection and are customer oriented. I recommend shopping here. read more

These people are good. I was hinky about buying furniture without seeing it in store, but the virus forced me to buy off the website. I hit a big sale, and a knowledgeable salesman. They were easy to get on the phone; another place never called back. Delivery was smooth, and I had them assemble and set up to avoid problems. This was a great transaction, with fair prices, and a better grade of furniture. read more

Purchasing, delivery experience were great until we noted a part of the couch missing. We ordered custom couch (custom color and size) which took 4 months to build ship and deliver. Once it came to the house, it was realized there was an entire section of the couch (additional armless to make couch longer) was missing and do you think these people did the right thing? THEY DID!..or I should say...are planning to. Art, the stores manager called this morning and advised that because it's a custom color, simply ordering the armless chair would not be the right thing to do (color most likely would be different from rest of the couch then introducing a new problem) so he is planning to order an entirely new couch and wants us to keep this one for the four months it will take to get the new one. Once the new one is delivered, we simply swap them out. The error was made by the supplier (checked paperwork and all was accurate, supplier shipped wrong piece) but Scandinavian Designs did the right thing in my opinion and in less than a 5 minute conversation, apologized and recommended the action mentioned above. Situations like these quickly let you know if you're supporting a good business and if you want to return and although unfortunate having to wait 4 more months, I'm happy assuming what the manager is recommending, actually gets done. read more

Said they always stand buy their furniture and wanted their customers to be satisfied and happy. They came fixed it and the table is fine. I would not hesitate to buy from them again!! NEVER RETURNING TO PLUMMER'S. Went to buy a lamp. ready to pay for it and sales guy asks for name, address and phone number. Tell him no - he can get my name off the credit card but otherwise I am not providing information. He throws my credit card back at me and says he can't make the sale. Ask to speak to the manager. Manager shows up and I tell him I want to make a credit card purchase. He tells me that he must have my name, address and phone number. I tell him no - the VISA sales agreement says I have to present my VISA card and a picture ID if necessary but it does not require me to provide address and phone number. Response "We have 40 stores and that is the way we do it so too bad". Response is no I am not giving you that information. Response from manager: "Take it up with our corporate offices. Now give me name address and phone number or we can't complete the sale". Response "Fine my phone number is (111) 111-1111. My address is 1 First Street San Diego CA.". Manager smiles "Now we can complete your sale!". Bastards. Do not support this invasion of privacy. Tell them to go to hell. read more
