I have had the worst experiences with Wardle's and just want to warn others…read more In June 2024, as a brand new chicken owners, I bought 3 Rhode Island Red hens from them. I was not able to go into the coop with the sales associate so he just went in, grabbed whatever three hens he could get and put them in my carrier. When I got home and took them out, I noticed one could barely walk. I tried to give her some rescue 911 electrolytes in her water and access to food thinking maybe getting scooped up and put in a box and then being in a car for 15 minutes was a stress on her nervous system and she just needed some time to acclimate. I called Wardle's to tell them what happened and asked if I could switch her for another hen. The manager told me no because she could be sick... even though that meant they had just sold me a sick chicken. She struggled for weeks. We had to keep her in a separate coop and spent countless dollars on a ton of different supplements trying to figure out what was wrong with her and to keep her alive. Finally we tried Vitamin B12 and after a few days of it in her water, she able to walk normally. Although she was always a pretty sickly chicken and not even a year later we found her dead in the coop one morning (no sign of attack or any injuries). Fast forward to September of 2025. We wanted to get a few chicks to raise and integrate with our flock. Against my better judgement, we went back to Wardle's to get chicks. They only had 4 week olds and again, we weren't allowed in the room where the brooders were to pick the ones we wanted so we just told the associate how many and which breeds. We got 3 gold laced Wyandottes, a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. I looked in the box and noticed one of the hens had a pretty big comb. I asked if that was normal because we definitely didn't want a rooster. They assured me it was a hen. 3 months later, our "hen" has started crowing. We can't have roosters in Lakewood so now we have to find someone to take him or cull him. It breaks my heart. Of note, since then we have ordered chicks from McMurray and Meyer's Hatchery and had really healthy, beautiful, hens. Not a single rooster. I would highly recommend ordering from a hatchery over buying any chickens from Wardle's!

Petco Will Take Your Money -- But They Certainly Don't Support Animals or the Community…read more What I witnessed at the Petco at 3511 N Salida Ct near Tower was beyond unacceptable. A volunteer who had driven six hours to safely deliver a foster dog was harassed, stalked, and treated like a criminal in Petco's parking lot -- not by police, not by staff, but by an aggressive Front Range Patrol guard Petco thinks represents their brand. Instead of showing even minimal respect for rescue work or basic human decency, Petco allowed this guard to escalate, monitor, and threaten someone who was literally helping save an animal. When I arrived to pick up the foster, he immediately went hostile, raised his voice at me, and acted like a routine dog exchange was some kind of crime. The message from Petco was loud and clear: You can give them your money -- but don't expect them to support animals, rescues, or the community in any meaningful way. For a company that markets itself as a champion of animal welfare, their actions say the opposite. Allowing aggressive, unnecessary confrontation toward rescue volunteers shows a complete lack of compassion, oversight, and responsibility. Petco should be embarrassed. The behavior they have authorized make it painfully obvious they care about only 1 thing, your money.

Typically, because my…read moredog's coat dries so quickly, by the time I get home, they have called me to come back and get him, so about 45 minutes. Last Thursday, 5/7/26, I had a 1:30 pm appointment with one groomer and was called and offered an earlier one because they had lots of openings. I had never been to this PetSmart, but was using it because I was leaving Denver that afternoon and let the woman know that I didn't have a car anymore and needed to pick it up at noon. Their location was closer to the highway and after my car appointment and I was hoping I would have the car in time for the 1:30 appt. She asked if I'd like to come at 2 pm and I said I'd rather stay at 1:30 because I was really trying to get out of town, but kept that time in the back of my mind. While I was at the rental place I saw that I was not going to make the 1:30 time so I called to see if the 2 pm time was still an option. It was, so I locked that time down and got the car and rushed home. I gathered up my pup and threw my luggage into the car. I called on my way and let them know I was coming. I told them I'd be there by 2:15. They said I'd be fine. I arrived at 2:10. The person who they ended up assigning me was different, fine, I was late, had changed my appointment. She took my pup back after I did the paperwork. He wasn't happy, but what pup ever is? I asked another groomer if she knew a place I could get a manicure while he was being groomed. (No cut, just bathed, nails, and extra brushing for shedding.) She didn't have any suggestions, so I turned to google and found a place close by. Two and 1/2 hours later I was concerned because I hadn't received a text or call from the groomer, especially since it's typically only 45 minutes for him. I rushed my service to finish and drove back to the groomer and when I walked in I couldn't find anyone. I could hear my dog barking in distress in the back. I went in and out looking for a staff member and finally someone emerged. I asked if he was done and was told he didn't like the blow dryer, so was put in the kennel to air dry. (I think him hating 15 min in the blower is not nearly as bad as hating over 2 hours in the kennel, but hey, that's just me.) I said something to the effect of how he had been there for 3 hours already and why wasn't he done and I have to be in Omaha, NE tonight, and was told "our appointments take 3-4 hours." I again told the groomer that I needed to leave, I had to get on the road. She asked if I'd like to pay for him and she would get him ready and to come back in 15 min. I said yes and was given the page with his info on it & checked out. I had requested a bath & brush plus the spring special with 15 extra minutes of the furminator. I went back and got him. He was still wet, was barely brushed, and honestly, I don't think he got his nails trimmed or his sanitary area clipped as directed. The nails are still long and not filed and his sanitary area is grown out from his last grooming. I paid nearly $75 for a bath, 3 hours of stress in a kennel for my pup, and a snot nosed attitude from a groomer that I tipped only so I would remember her name. I sure as hell won't forget her face and she will never touch a hair on my dog's head again.

We've bought two puppies from them about 15 years apart and both of them had serious medical issues. Most recently we had to put down within 10 months of getting her. The person that was talked to at the store had no empathy that dog had died and said well that happens sometimes. you're required to sign a one year guarantee that if the pet passes away within that time, you may be entitled to a refund. That form right there seems wrong of itself Despite the puppy having a genetic disorder, no one has zero empathy that your pet just died no matter how old it is. When you get defensive right off the bat about having to sign a piece of paperwork, you know you're doing something wrong. I hope the pain of guilt you felt when we told you that Chloe died sticks with you for the rest of forever. They said they were not going to change any of their practices and have been doing the same thing for over 50 years. This is extremely concerning to me and will be reported to the local Humane Society the Better Business Bureau and anyone else we can think of in order to stop puppies from being sold at this location. Genuinley never got a "hi welcome in", a smile, or any kind of indication that as a customer, new one at that is welcome in their store. I was fed up with this by the last time I had gone on Thursday 03/26/25, I had spent an absurd amount of money on drift wood and plants after feeling like a bother walking in once again, the guy that helped me was so disregarding of my presence so I felt like I couldn't just say, "never mind, this custoner service is not up to any standard". they clearly don't care about customers other than the profit they make off of them. sad to see this in small businesses like such, but it's not all of them. About Fish in Westminister is an amazing choice for fish stores in denver, despite it being a busy Saturday, they came up to me to help and made the entire experience comfortable for me.
