Terrible store and owner Michael Hill is a real piece of work. Animals are not housed or cared for properly. Wife purchased a bulb today that was the incorrect bulb due to an mis communication with his clerk. Wife realized the mistake in the parking lot and went back inside to ask to return the bulb for the correct one and a refund of the difference. The clerk was clearly scared to call Mike to ask but agreed to knowing wife is a very consistent customer. Michael refused the return outright and made several snide comments to my wife belittling the business we have previously given him (she asked him why he would throw away a good customer over a $70 return) Do yourself a favor and avoid doing business with him period. read more

One of the best reptile stores in Colorado if not the best! All of their feeders are always in really good condition and their animals are well cared for. The staff is usually very friendly accommodating and will allow handling of the reptiles if reptiles are available to be handled without causing stress on the animal. I am familiar with every reptile store and most pet stores in Colorado and would recommend 5280 as one of my first choices bar far! read more

Travis is very knowledgeable and helpful regarding reptile care. I highly recommend! I found a Russian turtle in my back yard and he was able to give me solid advice and immediate assistance. I just wanna say thanks to 5280 reptile room West for knowingly selling me a sick and under weight animal just to make profit ! I had took little dude to the vet for them to tell me I was sold a sick animal! After I spent a decent amount of money on him ! On top of that only have 24 hour policy to return animal because they know they are selling sick animals to the public and don't wanna deal with you after they sold you a sick animal !! Even a previous employee say they seen my Lizard in ISO to get better they were told to put him on the floor to make profit any ways ! Very friendly informative place to shop for reptiles. After going to an other place in Denver I can honestly say, make sure to stop by 5280 Reptile Room. They let you take out the perspective pets your interesting in and handle them. This goes a long way in establishing trust before you make a decent investment in a new slithery friend. While we were there a customer came in with some lizard that had dirt stuck in their mouth. The friendly and helpful staff were happy to help the little guy and he was back in action in no time. They have some membership frequent buyers options. I wish we lived closer to be able to use them. I'd still make the trip if I'm considering another cold blooded pet. read more

This review was originally a message to the owner of the store that I'm waiting on a response from. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE HAD A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS STORE REPORT TO PACFA!!! I was going to leave a public review but figured I would reach out respectfully first. I stopped at a peach stand that's in the parking lot off Kipling in Wheatridge I believe is the town. One of your stores was also in the parking lot. As an avid reptile enthusiast, we decided to check it out. When I say your store conditions are deplorable, that's putting it nicely. Within minutes and in one of the very first enclosure I see a barely hatched Asian water monitor. I have one at home so was interested. We stood at that tank for minutes waiting for that little thing to breathe as it did t appear healthy. Your way too eager and doesn't know what the hell he's telling customers employee asks if we want to hold it. I did not. He opens the tank and grabs this reptile and starts shaking it, entirely too rough with it, to "wake" it up. It wasn't waking up because it was DEAD. Your employee tried to shake it off as it was in a deep sleep. It was deep all right. Deep in death. But instead of dealing with the situation, he puts it back in the tank, closes the doors and rushes to three 12 yr old little girls to pull out a snake and man handled that as well. For one, there's no reason to stress these poor animals out the way he is. Two, do we just touch every animal and not wash our hands in between to not spread possible diseases since I can guess you don't care where your reptiles are sourced from ? And three-hire some knowledgeable employees. The crap I overheard him telling obvious new reptile owners is disgusting. This place is no better than a PetCo selling sick and dead animals. Not one of your enclosure had adequate heat or uvb sources. Your adult water monitor very visibly has deformities from lack of proper care as its poor spine is mangled to hell and back. I could go on, but I think you get the point. This visit happened September 14th 2024. Update: I have spoke to some of your customers along with other reptile stores with proper care of their animals, general consensus of your store is the same. Animals purchased that were knowingly sick or injured, complaints of disgusting, deplorable conditions of the animals, and now DEATH for sale. The fact you know what's going on, you see the negative reviews, you hear the complaints and you do NOTHING? Well I will. Have a nice day. read more

Meh... I wasn't really impressed. There were a bunch of kids working there who apparently have no people skills, let alone customer service skills. We went through the entire store without even a glance from anyone. I don't know reptiles well enough to know if the selection or pricing is good, but I am definitely the kind of person who doesn't go back to stores where your existence isn't acknowledged. read more

Do not support this business if you love animals. The staff is almost shockingly uneducated on most of the animals they are selling, leading to neglect and animals being sold while not being healthy. And customer service? Great if you want to be yelled at, responded to callously and sarcastically, and called a liar. Colorado has many fabulous well maintained reptile stores. I bought a new bearded dragon from here yesterday...a year old, active and energetic fellow. He called to me immediately! It's hard to find a fully grown healthy beardie. Aside from that, though, the young man who helped me through the entire setup was really helpful and answered all my questions. He gave me some notebook paper so I could write everything down, and even loaded the terrarium and supplies into my car. read more

I love this place, the always have a wide variety of animals to look at, the enclosures are very well Kept and animals all look healthy and happy. The owner is a nice guy and the prices here are pretty good. I am kind of a looky loo and they never get annoyed when I just buy crickets. (Today I bought a Theraphosa Strimi though). I love tarantulas and am so glad when I ask them questions and they are honest about what they know and what they don't, to many pet stores will just throw an answer out when you have questions about husbandry and these guys do not do that they are honest about what they know and what they don't. read more

My first and last time going to 5280! I had went in and bought a bearded dragon, and after a few days I noticed he was starting to breath weird and wasn't interested in food at all. I took him back to the store, and the girl up front told me it was just because of stress and to just leave him alone and he'll be fine. I ended up taking him to an emergency vet 2 days after that and they told me he had a respiratory infection. I called 5280 to let them know what had happened and a man who answered the phone told me theres nothing they could do about it and that he was my problem. read more

I had the vets office run a culture on the snake, they found that it had 3 separate types of bacteria as well as pseudomonas. 2 months later, of getting injections from the vet every three days, to the use of $3xx, he unfortunately ended up dying. The response I got from 5280 was basically "sorry the snake died, we got him right before the expo, he looked fine so we sold him". So openly admitting they did no heath checks or quarantine, but just flipped it to sell it quick and refused to take any responsibility after it died. Garbage company. read more

Wow, this is a great store. I was a little skeptical because we've been pretty loyal to a different local store. I was very impressed with the shop, as they have a lot of different critters and accessories for them. The employees are knowledgeable and patiently explained their policies, such as discounts on purchasing feeders. I bought a UVB light that was the wrong size, I did not realize until I got home that evening after I was running around all day. I came back the very next day, right as soon as they were opening, and the sales associate that sold the light to me, told me that he would not return the the light, that I had to buy a new light. He did not check the light the day before, to make sure it was in working condition as they usually do. He then called the owner and asked if we could return the light, he also said no. I now know why more and more people are taking their business online now. I also am a small business operator, I would never let the customer walk away feeling dissatisfied. read more

I stopped in because I'm considering getting a chameleon. These guys clearly love reptiles and have a great show room. The habitats are all thoughtfully designed and maintained. They have a great diverse selection of feeder insects. I was very thankful the guys spoke for a while with me about proper habitat setup at my home and offered some great ideas on how to properly account for the specific humidity requirements of the animals in colorado. When I get my chameleon I think these guys will be my go to shop and I'm happy to know my animal will have access to a diverse healthy diet. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I bought an Egyptian Uromastyx last Monday and it died this past Saturday after having it for five days. I truly believe that they sold me a sick reptile. I got it home on Monday, and it was really lethargic and could barely keep his eyes open. It just declined every day. Poor thing! I did look at and hold the Uromastyx before buying him. I thought that he was just tired, and I trusted them that they were selling me a healthy reptile. My excitement blinded me from seeing that the Uromastyx was really sick. I reached out to the shop after a few days and they were indifferent about the apparent sickness of it. They only offer a 48hr guarantee that the reptile will live, and after that they won't do anything for you... They basically said that they sold me a healthy Uromastyx and it's not their fault that it died. I will never buy from a reptile shop, especially this reptile shop, again! Don't trust them that they are selling healthy reptiles. Do your research and buy from a breeder. read more

This place is the best place to get good reptiles for an affordable price and I would also say the range is very good. Never buying reptiles from petco or petsmart again since they don't take care of their reptiles. This is the best place to go. I have gotten two snakes from here, a Jaguar Carpet python and an Amazon tree boa, and they are doing fine and well, Employees were very helpful and honest. The variety of reptiles they had were fantastic and unique and also a different change. This is a worthy trip, Don't care if it takes me an hour or two to drive down and look. WAY OVERPRICED!! I bought a thermostat for 60$ then went on Amazon after and found the exact one for 32$. Also spent 175$ on a snake and later found the exact type of ball python on a reputable website for 45$ on sale from 99$. Shop around first before you spend money here. Also they WILL NOT refund your money. You only get store credit if you return within 14 days...even if it's a FAULTY product! Seems like that should be illegal. The owner and manager had zero interest in making it right and were extremely rude and condescending when I asked for my money back for the faulty product. You would think they would want to keep customers who had just spent 500$ on a snake and supplies. Very disheartening to be treated that way. I live in Salida and once I realized the thermostat was broken I could not drive back to return and had to purchase one on Amazon assuming they would refund the faulty one. Even after asking the owner and manager nicely for a refund and explaining my situation they refused and claimed I was bullying them when I was just trying to get back my money for a faulty product. All that to say I was so disheartened that I was treated that way and pretty disgusted. read more

My husband bought a uromastyx home 6 days ago from this store. Three days later the lizard begins to decline and we take it to the vet. The vet confirmed he was sold a very sick lizard. My husband called the store and waited for a call back from the owners. The owner did not seem to care at all. This store does not have their animals checked for issues by a vet nor do the quarantine their animals. My husband asked if she was captive bred and the employees are trained to lie to you. They said yes but when my husband pressed with further questions they admitted they didn't really know where they got her from and she was possibly wild caught. This lizard was full of parasites and the owners do not care. 6 days later we took her back to the vet and the vet recommended euthanasia. When my husband called the store their reaction was "well we can't do anything for you. You should have brought her back here and not the vet". Why? So you can sell her to another person until she actually dies on them? They said "we could have treated her" Oh? You now also practice veterinary medicine? Do yourself a favor and DO NOT purchase a pet from here. Their animals are sick, their sources are questionable, and once you walk away with a reptile they do not care. There are other similiar experiences here on Yelp. There are also some good reviews as well but I suspect the owner has people he knows fill out good reviews. They all sound fake to me. BUY your pet from a reputable breeder. This place is not it. read more

I've been going to this local store since they opened the doors for my worms. They're more expensive than I can buy online, but wanted to support the small "mom n pop" store. I usually buy 2 Hornworm cups; 1 sized for now and 1 sized for 2-3 weeks. I've been finding more and more often that they're not taking care of their Hornworms, and when I go to purchase, some cups are conpletely out of food and some worms are dead. I was in there this week to make a purchase. All the cups with the larger sized worms were out of food. I asked if they could add some food for them since the cup was empty. I was told no, that they're only allowed to add a certain amount of ounces and when that's gone they can't add more. They told me I could buy extra food for them. I was shocked!! I would think with the prices they charge, $21.72 for 1 cup of Hornworms, this would be something they would happily do...NOPE. I won't be supporting this local store any longer! I'll order online and pay less, even with shipping. read more

I discovered this company at Denver's Reptile Expo. I bought my first ball python from them at the Expo. He's been super healthy and happy since the first day got him. He's also super docile and friendly ALL the time. He eats well and is NEVER stressed. I absolutely love him. Fast forward to about a week ago I was bored and drove all around Colorado to look at more snakes and found this company's actual location. They have the BEST reptile store. I've been to all of the reptile stores around the Denver metro area and this one is hands down the BEST. I, then decided to buy a baby corn snake from them. I've had him for about a week and he's eaten for me and he's also super friendly and docile. You can tell in their store that they take VERY good care of all of their animals. Everything is clean and organized. Their snakes seem to be more tame as well and less stressed compared to other reptile stores. The owner is awesome and his son is super sweet and helpful. LOVE this place and will continue to only use them in Colorado. It's a well-worth 45 minute drive for me. read more
