I am convinced these people are aware that they are getting puppies from a puppy meal wherever their breeder is out of state. We've bought two puppies from them about 15 years apart and both of them had serious medical issues. Most recently we had to put down within 10 months of getting her. The person that was talked to at the store had no empathy that dog had died and said well that happens sometimes. you're required to sign a one year guarantee that if the pet passes away within that time, you may be entitled to a refund. That form right there seems wrong of itself Despite the puppy having a genetic disorder, no one has zero empathy that your pet just died no matter how old it is. When you get defensive right off the bat about having to sign a piece of paperwork, you know you're doing something wrong. I hope the pain of guilt you felt when we told you that Chloe died sticks with you for the rest of forever. They said they were not going to change any of their practices and have been doing the same thing for over 50 years. This is extremely concerning to me and will be reported to the local Humane Society the Better Business Bureau and anyone else we can think of in order to stop puppies from being sold at this location. As I started my new hobby of aquatics, aquatic dog was a store I constantly went to as I prefer not to support big store companies and this store was the closest fish store to me. ive spent hundreds of dollars here at this point and while I am aware of this hobby being an expensive one. that doesn't excuse the problems I have with this place: to start, the hospitality here is extremely poor. as I've stated, I've spent hundreds of dollars here that I do regret (the prices are absurd) but on top of it to walk into a store more than 5 times and feel like I am I am bothering the staff there just by walking in... Genuinley never got a "hi welcome in", a smile, or any kind of indication that as a customer, new one at that is welcome in their store. I was fed up with this by the last time I had gone on Thursday 03/26/25, I had spent an absurd amount of money on drift wood and plants after feeling like a bother walking in once again, the guy that helped me was so disregarding of my presence so I felt like I couldn't just say, "never mind, this custoner service is not up to any standard". they clearly don't care about customers other than the profit they make off of them. sad to see this in small businesses like such, but it's not all of them. My husband and I were saving for a reputable breeder, but he fell in love. we purchased the dog last year to find out she has a genetic disorder, inoperable microvascular dysplasia. She was around 3k. Vet bills are now tripled what I bought her for just to gain a diagnosis and be told nothing can be done. We looked up the old paperwork and found the breeders USDA license and name. This woman has a puppy mill with 89 breeder dogs, numerous complaints, is on multiple studies for the harmful effects of puppy mills listed as a offender, is even on 'buyer beware' lists. Yet, with all of that she is continuing to breed them and sell them to Aquatic Dog. Her name is everywhere as a terrible puppy mill owner and irresponsible breeder, uncaring that lethal inherited genetic traits are being passed on so they can make more $$. We are saddened we will only get a year or two year with our puppy, but also happy to have met her. The most we can do is hope this petstore changes it's ways and recommend to never ever buy a puppy from this place. :( read more

They took pretty well care of the pets there, and I believe we signed a health contract as well. Additionally, the dogs are chipped and they watch them closely! They also have a station to sanitize your hands before and after petting the dogs so that way they stay clean and healthy. I bought a dog from there last year and she DID however come home with giardia. We let the staff know though and they do pay for treatments and give recommendations on how to take care of it. Al thought they added in a glass wall where they keep a puppy in at a time in a little glass cage. I think it's a little weird and inhumane which is why I'm giving four stars and not five, but other than that they are a great buisness read more

Been going to Aqautic Dog for a year for my aquatic fish and tank needs. I've always been well looked after by knowledgeable & friendly staff. I liked that we have to sign a Responsibility waivers to ensure we take proper care of any animal bought including fish, shrimp and nano frogs. Their prices are lower than specialty stores and I've never had a problem with any live fish or frogs in my balanced, tested, monitored and properly set up tanks. Their own tanks are clean and well maintained. I've seen them feed their aquatic dwarf frogs frozen blood worms that are more expensive and better nutrition than just basic flakes. For a small store they have an unusually large range of fish, tank plants, other exotics and dogs all in one location. Would be nice if they could upgrade the aquatic part of their website with some more photos of standard fish they keep as well as add something about aquatic plants and snails. They announce arrival schedules on their website which is nice. While stock do change customers could call to check availability. Overall, this is my first choice for aquatics. read more

I use to really love this store when Greg and Sheila owned it. It was very welcoming, Greg was always accommodating and helpful and genuinely wanted their animals to go to good homes. Now the employees are very cold and just seem miserable. I asked if an animal at the front desk was a service animal because I don't speak to or even look at animals at work and the response was just negative. "No but she's sleeping so let's leave her alone." I wasn't going to wake her up regardless, I was engaging in conversation to be respectful. The other associates tone had zero affliction and seemed bland and bored by my questions about the animals that I really wanted. I was going to put a deposit on a very sweet little girl but they really solidified my choice in continuing to want to adopt. My heart just doesn't feel good going into that store when it use to really light up my week. The little short haired dachshund was also crying the whole time and licking her butt. Just be aware.. The puppies they have are from a mill, cost 1-3 grand, and are covered in their own feces, and are ignored by the store owners. On top of that, multiple axolotls were kept together- not in a tank, in a plastic storage bin with nothing but a few inches of water and sprinkles of dirt at the bottom. Their prices are reasonable and they were able to accommodate us by taking deposits while we waited 2 months for Henry to come home. When we picked him up, Sheila provided us with info on his parents, his medical history, and microchipping. I was hesitant in purchasing a puppy retail, but Greg and Sheila changed my mind. They have the puppies share a pen to be socialized. The puppies' pens are immaculate and all the pups I've visited have great temperaments. This place made me extremely sad. Although the puppies and fish looked healthy, one kennel (glass holding box) of puppies did not have access to water. This is a clear department of agriculture violation. They said the puppies come from reputable breeders, but I asked and the breeders do not take back the puppies if the adoption isn't the best fit. I wouldn't even call it adoption, as long as you have the money you can get a puppy. What is even worse is that the Dumb Friends League is a 30 second drive away. I understand that it is more accessible to pick up a pure-bred dog immediately from this store, but if you keep an eye out on the shelter website they have poodles and poodle mixes often. Overall please adopt and shop RESPONSIBLY, go learn about the breeder if you want a pure-bred puppy. No reputable breeders would send their animals to this store (or any pet store). Reputable breeders want to meet the family that their puppy is going to. Best fish store ever, hands down. Clean, healthy tanks with truly unique freshwater animals. Very knowledgeable; all of the employees (but especially the owner) want to make sure you understand how to take care of the critters and if the fish is the right match for your tank(s) but not in the critical/condescending way you can sometimes encounter with fish people. I credit them entirely with my fish obsession as well as my healthy tanks (two at work, five at home... it's getting out of hand). Only fish store you ever need to visit in Denver, honestly. Denver people in aquarium circles know this as a fantastic find for all things freshwater. Prices are surprisingly reasonable given quality; less expensive than online in many cases and certainly healthier critters. Yes, they sell puppies. I am a vet so you don't need to lecture to me about adopting. All of my (way too many) mammals at home are adopted. But here is the thing... if you are going to sell puppies, they do it responsibly and well. I think almost all the puppies are small breed mixes (a.k.a. designer dogs) which from a health perspective is fantastic. Less genetic issues and all the puppies at the store seem well socialized. And the truth is for owners trying finding a young small breed dog it can be very challenging in the rescue world. For some owners with specific requirements, purchasing may be their only option. When I've been there the puppies are healthy and well cared for. People that complain about prices haven't experienced reputable breeder prices; expect any small breed puppy to be over $1000 from a good breeder or kennel unless you want to gamble on Craigslist (which can be just as expensive and yet minus the accountability). I will tell you as a professional that the puppies I've seen at Aquatic Dog are far healthier than other pet stores (and I've seen the worst case scenarios of the unhealthy pet store puppies in my hospital) read more

Gourami are healthy and lively, the one I purchased is actively exploring their tank after being acclimated unlike Gourami I've bought from chain stores that are lethargic and die within a week. read more

Stopped in on my way home to pick up some CBD oil for my kitty, who's been having joint pain. They carry Pet Releaf drops for cats and dogs, at the same price the manufacturer sells them online. Also picked up some natural gourmet canned food and treats. Great selection at very competitive prices. Clean store with a friendly feline to greet you at the door. Bought some fish supplies from Aquatic Dog that I used and shortly after my fish died. I'm sure my fish's death had nothing to do with the supplies I had bought but went back to ask about returning it and the woman behind the counter immediately became defensive and said "what would keep anyone from returning leashes or harnesses when they're done?" Sensing her irritation I said I was not there to pick a fight, I just wanted to know about my options because some other pet stores have return policies. She exclaimed "they have billions of dollars to dump down the drain". I apologized for having upset her and walked out. I had no idea asking about the stores return policy would set her off. I drive 45 minutes (with traffic) to support this family-owned business. The prices are wonderful; comparable with online retailers and often times, much more reasonable. They stock quality, reasonably priced items, that succeed in getting the job done well. They've done their research and know that, for 'x' price point, 'THIS' is the best out there. I appreciate that they go above and beyond to make my dollar stretch farther, ensuring that I take home top of the line goods with my healthy fish. Aside from all of that (which matters, of course), is the culture within the shop. This, above all else, is of the utmost importance. Most fish shops and pet stores aren't child-friendly. Sheila and Greg have offered complete grace and kindness to my young children, both of whom have special needs. There is something very special about a place when my children, who normally avoid the long drive and "boooring fish store" experience, ask to visit Ms. Sheila and Mr. Greg and to give pets and cuddles to Mr. Thomas, the shop cat. I have numerous fish stores closer to my home and en route to Aquatic Dog, but I will drive the extra miles because they ALWAYS go the extra mile and extend the kindness and grace I could only hope to find among friends. While our visits aren't always convenient or user-friendly, I know that my son, who has High Functioning Autism, can bring in his rocks and compare them to those at the shop and Greg will accommodate him. My daughter, who sees at 20/80 WITH glasses, uses her hands to experience much of her environment, is often engaged by Shelia and humored as she feels her way through the different textures of pet toys lining the shelves. A great store to pick out healthy fish for your fish tank. I find that Petsmart doesn't receive the freshest of betas, but this store has the highest quality of beta fish, plus other fish I have not seen before. The tanks are very clean and the fish are happy to be darting around. They also have an excellent selection of everything you need to start an aquarium, plus lots of animal products for dogs and cats. They also have a small selection of miniature breeds of puppies that are taken care of lovingly, and are watched over by alert eyes. Every creature in this store is cared for very well. If you want a nice friendly local pet store, go elsewhere. I went in and the tall employee was helpful and offered plenty of information on the fish and aquatic life. But the owner has been absolutely rude on several occasions, to the point of blaming me for making a return of a product with the receipt, and everything in the box in perfect working order. I went in to look for a light to possibly replace the more expensive one I had been looking at. I decided a few days later on the more expensive one because of the customization of light bulbs and went in to return the old product. After asking why I wanted to return it he told me he "isn't here to take care of my fish" and that he "Needs to pay his employees a living wage, and not a rental store" I explained I was looking at both to compare but that didnt matter. Got very connected to the pup only for it to die 5 months after I bought it. If you are looking to get a puppy do not buy here! This would be a 5 star review if Aquatic Dog didn't sell puppies. Like many others I am against this practice: not only because it supports the disgustingly inhumane puppy mill industry, but because dogs are a very serious, long term commitment and shouldn't be treated as merchandise. Instead, maybe they could work with the Dumb Friends League right next door! Anyway, my main point: they have a fantastic fish/invertebrate selection. I prefer to keep fish under 3 inches, and I especially love the tiny "nano" species. This place is the only place I have ever found so many small species at once, it is AWESOME. I have bought several scarlet badis, a pair of peacock gudgeons, a school of furcata rainbows, galaxy rasboras/celestial pearl danios(my favorite), chili rasboras, pygmy cories, as well as quite a few invertebrates with absolutely no problems. I always love to look for what cool new fish or invert(Vampire Shrimp!) has arrived whenever I visit. I haven't been impressed by the knowledge of any of the staff, but being an experienced hobbyist I'm just happy that they will take as much time as is needed to net out exactly all of the fish I want! No matter how tiny or fast the fish, they have never hesitated to make sure I'm happy with all 12 of them! Their willingness to spend the extra time is truly appreciated.
