It felt like everything was happening at once -- and I truly needed guidance, reassurance, and kindness in that moment. Love was absolutely amazing. Not only knowledgeable, but genuinely compassionate and patient. I never once felt rushed or dismissed -- just supported. Rumi also went above and beyond, answering my emails almost instantly and making sure I had the information I needed right away. That level of responsiveness made all the difference during a stressful situation. What could have been a total disaster turned into a reminder that there are still businesses that truly care about their customers. Exchanging a fish there is like getting interrogated and presents a poor customer service when I am the one that needs to make a second drive there only to be disrespected. Zero if I could. What an awful experience. The CO owner lied to me, she told me she could work with me on a dead fish, I should've known that it was too good to be true. Having driven 45 minutes to the store with my water sample, which I tested against test strips, don't buy those, I was told the phosphates were too high. They don't include phosphates as a red flag unless they're going to deny you. My nitrate was too high? Nitrate is a normal part of a tank cycle. I've never qualified buying new fish based on having to do a tank change the day before purchase. And phosphate! Serious? Do you even sell that test kit? I've never seen it before. After spending $500 in one week you could do me the courtesy of saying "bring a water sample, it doesn't matter we're not giving you a thing." Notes: they are super friendly and helpful when you're buying something. Just don't expect much. They had a dead fish in one of the tanks that my son pointed out that had been there for at least a day. At least that's what the pleco was thinking. Now, find the tank. They have a 48 hour doa policy. They won't budge, trust me. Ask my seven year old who spent $35 on a butterfly pleco only to have it die within a week. $17.50 would have been enough for me, more than fair I said. Finally, even if you live in Elizabeth or Parker, and you are five minutes away from the store, drive the extra 45 minutes to Wheat Ridge and go to The Fish Den. Tell Michael Jason sent you. They have a better rating than MC Aquatics. Here are my readings according to an API freshwater master test kit ($40 at petsmart) Ph 7.4 High range pH 7.8 Ammonia 0 ppm Nitrate 0 ppm Nitrite 0 ppm See the pic below. Finally Phosphates: that's a joke. Good luck knowing that. You're welcome. Next time you tell someone nitrate is a 39, make sure that you tell them what the safe range is. I am an experienced aquarist, owning many fish over 5 years old, and like other reviewers that had previously used Neptunes, I tried out MC Aquatics upon their closure. I was impressed with MC's selection of freshwater fish, and I bought a few to see how it would go, as I was excited by the potential. Unfortunately, after my first purchase, my whole tank broke out with Ich (first time I've ever had an outbreak in 5+ years) and I think I was sold some fish that did not properly get quarantined. I lost 2 of the new fish and one of my older fish while I got it under control. I later decided to give them one more shot, thinking maybe it was a lesser experienced employee, and purchased some tetras and Rasboras. After introducing these to my tank, half of them died, and several other tetras in my tank started passing away in response, as I lost 4 well-established fish that had been otherwise healthy, which was definitely a 1-2 punch. After I brought this up with the store, they gave me a hard time about their return policy, which I had inquired about in advance in good faith, and they reluctantly they took care of it. I don't trust MC Aquatics whatsoever, and I would highly recommend going elsewhere, as you not only risk losing your new fish, but also your entire aquarium. read more

Ordered replacement filters and live fish online through their website... After waiting several days and checking online at my account for tracking on their own website all it stated was "order received." So I finally reached out on Facebook and it turns out they didn't have 2 of the 3 items in stock so they just cancelled the entire order without saying anything. Really crappy to try and sell things online you don't have. Also maybe mention something? Call on that phone number you require for the account... Plants are good, but make sure you soak them in snail killer or your tank will be covered with snails. One time I got home with plants & found a catfish in there. I returned the catfish to MC. You can be treated well by some employees (& owner Mike), or poorly by others. I bought 15 golden tetras - for FIVE dollars EACH - & all died within 4 days (if you buy 10, you get one free, I think). Whatever was wrong with them infected my tank, so I'm also down 6 neons, which I've had for years. I never quarantined fish I bought at Neptunes (35 years!!). Mike said he'd refund the fish. I do like the plants at MC but I will find another place for fish. :( read more

This is an awesome shop! I'm a newcomer to the planted aquarium hobby and had been shopping around for somewhere to buy aquatic plants. I posted on a Colorado specific aquarium group on Facebook and someone recommended this shop, as they are doing a "buy one, get one" sale on all plants. Sold! It's a little out of the way in a business park in Englewood, but we'll worth the drive IMO. I was immediately greeted upon entering the shop by one of the three owners. He explained the sale, offered his help, and was generally very welcoming. I explained what I was looking for, and he told me that their aquatic plant guy was finishing his lunch but should be with me shortly. I strolled around a little while waiting. I don't know much about fish, but they have tons of gorgeous ones in very clean tanks all around the shop. Many had signs saying "not for sale - meds in the tank," which I assume means they are making sure their fish live before they sell them. If I were in the market for fish right now, that would have been very encouraging. This place seems very much geared more towards the high end tanks - fewer cheap plastic tanks and decorations, more beautiful, curated options. As for planted tank materials: I loved what I saw. Tons of beautiful driftwood, many types of aquarium stones, rows of healthy green and red plants. Given my inexperience with the hobby, I was more than happy to be led along in terms of what to buy. The planted tank guy (I didn't get his name) was super helpful and patient, taking his time walking me through the best plants for my set up, root tabs, and water conditioner. Never pushy, but lots of explanations and suggestions. I will definitely be returning here for all my planted tank needs! read more

MC Aquatics is a local fish store that replaced Neptune Fish after it closed. While the staff is friendly, they are not very knowledgeable. For example, they charged me $6 for a simple water test and told me that a certain gravel would be OK with freshwater, which turned out to be wrong. Thankfully, they did refund the money and acknowledge the mistake. read more

Disappointing experience- I heard this store had absorbed Neptunes remaining stock after closure, so I stopped by to take a look. Their dry goods are impressive- they have quite the selection across all dry goods with standard prices in my opinion. Unfortunately, the fish area was where it fell apart. I noticed various mislabeled tetras and saw dead fish in at least 3 tanks, and they had been dead for a bit. The plant area was also quite messy, I am sure you would get some fun surprise hitch hikers from this stores plants. Overall this experience was quite a bummer as Neptunes was such a well run shop, however I do not feel like this store is run at the same level and I will look elsewhere for my future needs. read more

Very nice LFS but workers for saturday 8 July are not knowledgeable. Could not get a price for rose bulb anemone on display with the clowns. Was looking to pick up a small anemone for our nano and was priced $50 then went i went to pay jumped to $100 cause he was unsure? it was a small rose anemone 1.5" , drove an hr to disappointment my daughter. Back to the local facebook market for all my corals. read more

Stopped by earlier today, the store looked great and the staff were incredibly friendly. The staff were very helpful and answered all of the questions I had regarding setting up a new tank. They helped with specific knowledge that was needed to set the tank properly to ensure my fish will be well taken care of. They informed me that if I had any questions in the future to feel free to reach out and to not be afraid to ask! i usually go to Neptune to get all my salt water and RO but they close earlier than i get off some days so i'm unable to go there. I'm glad i found this place it's tucked away and had i not google searched and called them to make sure i probably wouldn't have found this little gem. They have a grip of different kinds of betta fish with electric coloring it's pretty insane. They also have some sharks which I found to be pretty awesome as well as a lot is plant life to fill you're fresh water tanks. Everyone was very kind to me even offered to help me take the water to the car. I highly recommended this place is business read more

We've had some ph issues and they suggested the perfect additive to help us with keeping it stable. We stop in every few weeks to see what's new. I've been looking for a good fish store in Denver for a while now, and I've finally found it!!! Fish are some of the happiest and healthiest I've seen in any fish store. Large selection with specialized fish, many of which I haven't seen anywhere else. The place was SO CLEAN, which is (unfortunately) not the norm in fish stores. The staff was the best part of it though; the team member who helped us (Scott) was the best employee I've met in ANY store (not just fish stores). He gave me space when I was just browsing, and when I got interested in a fish he'd swoop in and tell me all about it. I took kind of a while to decide what to get, and he was incredibly patient with me during the whole process. This is by far the best aquarium store in Denver, and it's now the only place I'll go when buying fish or plants. read more
