On my team, I used to organize team lunch outings. I did it for years.
My manager realized that a break was merited and gave it to another person on our team. He then asked us to suggest eateries that we should go to. One of mine on my list was this Scaddabush in Etobicoke. It occupies the old Tucker's Marketplace eatery that did not survive the pandemic.
I had a fabulous time dining at the Mississauga location and doing takeout from the Richmond Hill eatery. I would expect an equally enjoyable time here.
The downside? My manager felt that the prices were expensive. The rest of us still wanted to go regardless.
When my colleague quietly shared with me that she had resigned, I went into planning mode. She needed a farewell sendoff. I came out of retirement because this occasion had to be done right and she's my friend.
I asked if she was okay with Scaddabush. She was. On the restaurant's site, it said that apps were 50% off during happy hour. Perfect! It would appease everyone.
We came here at around 3 pm. I drove my other friend over. The guest of honour rode with another colleague.
This eatery is in a plaza on the northeast corner of Attwell Drive and Dixon Road. It has a handful of eateries, as it's near a bunch of hotels. There is always lots of parking. I found a spot, parked, and we walked over to the main entrance. Once we all were in front of the eatery, we went in.
I didn't make a reservation. You can't during happy hour. That's okay. We were at the start of it, so grabbing a table for nine was easy.
We had a nice person greet us. I pointed out how many people we had and she found a long table for us. It was nice seeing how spruced up the place has become. The chandeliers were a nice touch.
Our server was a hoot. I never caught her name, but she was lively. Perhaps a live wire is a better term. She had so much energy and the best rapport with all of us.
I love sangria. Both my friends love sangria. We ordered two pitchers.
My favourite at this eatery is the green sangria. It was the first time that my friends tried it and felt the same way. It had a fruity, tropical vibe. It contained white wine, blue curaçao, limoncello, passion fruit and apple juices, ginger ale, and lemon juice.
We ordered the red sangria. It was good, but we liked the green sangria more. The red had red wine, brandy, orange juice, ginger ale, and lemon juice. It was more boozy.
We ordered a bunch of dishes and shared family-style. I'm glad that we did because it allowed us to sample everything.
Our order consisted of the following:
- Calamari
- Fries
- Margherita pizza ($5 off during happy hour)
- Shrimp puttanesca spaghetti
- Mushroom truffle fettuccine
- Mediterranean salmon
- Spicy smoked bacon and egg pizza
- Roasted mushroom and truffle gnocchi (regular)
- Spicy funghi pizza
Everything I sampled was incredible. I contributed with ordering the spicy smoked bacon and egg pizza, and mushroom truffle fettuccine.
Whenever I see an egg on pizza, I must order it. This pizza was yummy. It had everything that I love on it: chili oil, mozzarella, double-smoked bacon, cremini mushroom, soft poached eggs, cracked black pepper, chili flakes, and chives.
The eggs weren't as runny as I had hoped, but they were still yummy on this pizza. I loved the mushrooms and slight spice kick that this pizza had. The pizza cutter looks like a modern take of garden shears. It was enjoyable using them.
I love mushrooms. This menu has a lot of mushroom dishes. We had a few vegetarians on this team, so they were a hit. My first dish at Scaddabush in Mississauga was the mushroom truffle fettuccine. I had to order it. It tasted just as delicious as the first time I had it. It had lots of roasted mushrooms. The fettuccine was perfectly cooked. The caramelized onions were so good. The brown butter Alfredo sauce, with spinach, roasted garlic, chives, pecorino, and truffle oil, made this pasta so special.
Pastas come in regular and social (large) sizes. All our pasta orders were social, except for the roasted mushroom and truffle gnocchi.
Sadly, we found out that the 50% apps happy hour deal on this location's site was outdated. There were a few specials. Our margherita pizza was $5 off. Yay! It was fresh and yummy.
There's one colleague who likes ordering fries. I had a few. They were great. The calamari was better. It was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. It wasn't rubbery. It came with a piquante sauce that had a good, spicy kick to it. The lemon aioli was fabulous. I loved both of them.
Our manager paid. He was tasked with divvying up how much we each had to pay. It was nice that I got to take a break!
I presented our team's farewell greeting and gift cards to my friend. She was so happy and moved. My job was done with some help from this Scaddabush.
I used the washroom before we left three hours later. It was clean and nice.
Great eatery. I'll be back.
