The new ownership is really crushing this new and improved Savory Roots. To be fair, the original SR was excellent but now it is phenomenal! We had such a wonderful time dining there this evening. There is a ton of comfortable outside seating and eat table boasts a fly fan that will make sure you're able to enjoy the atmosphere. They have a LOT of options and everyday they have new specials. I recommend checking out the Facebook page where you can see what they have day to day. I tried the their filet and it was delicious and perfectly prepared. The broccoli and side salad are excellent as well. The service is perfection. Our waitress was friendly and efficient and made us feel right at home. On Fridays they even do karaoke starting at 5 and the atmosphere is so light and fun. We had a wonderful family experience and we all left stuffed and happy. This will likely become a Friday night tradition for us! read more

This was the first time we have been here since the new ownership. It was Wednesday night and they had a live band out on the deck. It was a fun evening. We sat outside and enjoyed the music. They allow you to bring wine (small corkage fee) at least until they get a wine / liquor license. They do sell a nice selection of beer. Although it was steak special night, we decided to order things to share. The BBQ Sweet potato Pig fries were excellect. The Ceasar salad was fresh and good, but probably could use a bit more flavor. The Bang Bang shrimp were a little bit soggy, but tasted fresh and quite ok. The ladies serving were very busy, but they were still attentive and excellent. In general, it was a terrific evening, with good music, nice relaxing atmophere, excellent service and quite good food. We will certainly be back. read more

Steak tasted and smelled spoiled. My wife and I both had the same reaction on the first bite. Steak tasted like it was expired or the cooler wasn't cold enough to keep the meat fresh. The new owner completely disregarded us and said there's nothing wrong with that meat and just smiled at me. She has no concerns for her customers so we will never go back. Would not recommend. Stopped here for lunch. Unassuming front made us unsure if we found the right place or if it was open. Parked in the back. The place is small and was busy but we were seated right away. Other three ordered house made chips. They were running out of chips so they also gave us sweet potato fries. They say great things come in small packages and in my (culinary) experience, I have found this to be especially true of small businesses. I have passed this tiny little restaurant dozens of times and always said- I need to go check it out (but never did). Until one day, while finishing up a job in the area, me and a couple of friends/co-workers decided to pop in and see what was going on in this quaint little joint. The atmosphere was a nice mix of eclectic and country... let's call it "country eclectic"... (ya heard the new term here first, folks). The service was outstanding and the food was just as good. It came out hot and fresh and my cup never got close to empty before the waitress came by and topped it off again. Speaking of the service- hospitality should be somewhere in the name, because it was like being at my grandmas house. We finished our food and sat around talking for a good long time afterwards and we didn't realize that they had CLOSED! They never complained, they never made any snarky comments... hell, they didn't even politely mention it! They just quietly cleaned the dining room and let us jabber on obliviously, until we got ready to leave and realized our folly. Did you see that folks? I used the word "folly" in a Yelp review. You're welcome! But seriously folks, if you're in the Delisle (pronounced duh-lill) area of Harrison County, MS, go and see the good folks at Savory Roots. One serious word of advice though- check their hours before you go and if you're not sure- call and see if they're open. If you're on a motorcycle (like I usually am), be warned that the parking area is behind the restaurant and it is gravel. It's not impossible to ride on, but gravel is gravel and two wheelers don't like to stay upright on loose surface material. read more

Really good food here! I highly recommend the sweet potatoes fries as they are cooked excellently and expertly seasoned. House made chips are good as well and seasoned nicely - just a heads up - I was expecting house made chips to be thicker slices of potato and these are very thin. Not a complaint in any way, just a heads up because I wasn't expecting it and you may not either. It was very loud inside, and especially loud when we first walked in, I think someone was in a life and death hand to hand combat match with an ice machine or something because none of us could hear a thing that any of us at our table was saying. I guess our hero eventually vanquished the ice machine as the sounds of martial hostilities finally ceased but it was still somewhat loud inside. Oh, another heads up - the put Mayo on the pulled pork bbq sammich. That was definitely unexpected. I'm not talking an Alabama Mayo based bbq sauce, I'm talking a dollop of Duke's on the sammich along with bbq sauce and pickles. We had four in our party but only were given 3 sets of silverware and napkins and had to ask for another but they got taken care of. Definitely recommend this place! read more

Great little local restaurant. Inside seating is nice but the patio out front is great on warm days. The patio area is covered so you aren't being blasted by the sun. I had a shrimp po'boy and it was very good. They get the bread from a famous New Orleans bakery. The menu had a good selection without being overwhelming. Small quaint place that packed a lot of flavor. Started with a perfectly dressed Caesar salad. Crisp fresh not overdressed with what tasted like house made croutons but that was just the warm up to those shrimp and grits. A dish I've enjoyed from New Orleans to savanna but theirs really stood out. Grit cake under a mound of extremely fresh shrimp , all surrounded by an incredible sauce. I have always gotten food catered for either Thanksgiving or Christmas and this year we got the Cranberry Orange Glazed Pork Loin and although the flavor was really good, the meat was extremely chewy/tough, even hard to cut with a steak knife. Now I have to figure out what else I can do with it so it doesn't go to waste. OK, the name of this place threw me off. I thought it was some health food or vegan restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised to find some of my favorite down-home kind of meals were available. At less than 1 mile from my home I decided to try this for lunch one day. I had a shrimp Po boy, with their firecracker shrimp sauce, and my wife had a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and greens. Both were delicious. Not a big place, but adequate seating inside and comfortable outside seating under a large airy contemporary roof system. Located a bit out-of-the-way for most people, I would recommend this to anyone in the area. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. I am not often blown away by restaurants but I have to say, this was an amazing meal. I cannot wait to come back here and try more from their menu. Tonight I tried the BBQ sandwich and it was delish! Perfect amount of sauce and it didn't overpower the flavor of the meat at all. My dad got the special fish which was snapper with mashed potatoes and grilled squash and zucchini. I have never tasted fish grilled to perfection until tonight. Honestly, I would expect to find this level of food in a big city with high dollar. As I sat here eating I kept wondering if the chef had any formal training. Who cares, she is a master of her craft. First time there last night. I had the pork chop which was excellent- flavor and sauce and the accompanying Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes were so good and complimented the pork chop perfectly. We also had the Biloxi potato chip appetizer- ouch! The chocolate cake dessert was also incredible. Friendly staff and service was very good. I was so impressed by Svaory Roots, and their menu items (and take home meal plans) are well thought out and extensive. I got the chicken and waffles, and I have found that many restaurants tend to neglect the waffles in chicken and waffles, but not here. These waffles were lovingly crafted with a sprinkling of sugar on the outside (not doused in some ersatz maple syrup). The chicken was perfectly breaded-think something like if Chik-fil-a partnered with an expert chef to perfect their batter. My wife got the burger, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned nicely (nothing crazy, just a great burger). The house made chips were the best I've had a restaurant. I can't wait to try their seafood dishes. Almost as good as the food was the atmosphere-quaint, yet modern (maybe 12 tables inside and few outside). The service was perfect, and I can't recall a time, recently, that I've enjoyed a restaurant as much as this one. read more
