Had high expectations, "had", when I heard Camp House, Yacht Club in Diamondhead. Total disappointment I asked for a Shrimp/oyster po-boy dressed. Shrimp po-boy, no oysters - pop corn shrimp, most likely frozen. Po-boy wasn't dressed like I asked for. There was a half a slice of tomato and two small pickle slices on one half of the sandwich. The comeback sauce (mixture of ketsup and mayo) was drizzled on the top of shrimp, which left the bread dry. I asked for a root beer and she said it comes in a bottle. I said that's fine. I received the root beer in a plastic bottle (eventually got the bottle) With a location like that, they should be able to provide the freshest seafood and have a top-notch service. When we are in the mood for a delicious burger, crispy fries and cheesy cheese curds and/or deep fried mushrooms... theres literally only one place we go, and that's the Camphouse. We come here A LOT. I don't know how I haven't done a Yelp review, yet, but here goes. Because of the beautiful waterfront views and the variety of menu options, we often bring our out of town friends. The serene landscape and the option of dining outside or inside with their large windows makes it so you can really enjoy your dining experience. They have a lot of wonderful options to try. I usually get their blackened redfish but I've also enjoyed their gumbo and their steaks. Today I tried the blackened redfish tacos for lunch and they were fantastic. My love wanted to try the brunch and he got the camphouse breakfast and he was very happy with it. The servers are all great. The bartenders make excellent cocktails. It's a great place to check out. Hidden gem! We enjoyed a tasty dinner on a Saturday night! We braved the outdoor balcony but to everyone's surprise - no gnat issues. The Camphouse is in the bay so if you choose to sit out side it is to be expected! The staff was friendly and efficient and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I was surprised when the Lazy Gator moved from this location, but thankful for The Camphouse. They've got a good variety of menu options and the food is good! The one thing that I've had a bad experience with were the oysters, and that was more than once. They were just super rubbery. Regardless, everything else has been good! The service is good. The ambiance is nice. Indoor and outdoor seating and a beautiful view of the water and sunsets. They have live music nights. The downstairs bar is open and setup. It was so smart to take advantage of that space below! The previous restaurant didn't use that space. They do Brunch here and they are very active on their Facebook with specials, updates and photos. Last time we went to Camphouse, the food was pretty good. This time, however, the food was terrible. They were using a new menu on Sunday when we went, but they didn't have paper or electronic copies of it. The only reason we knew they had a new menu was when we went to order the waffles, the waitress told us there is now only one bigger one instead of two smaller ones. When the waffles came out, we felt like Goldilocks and the three bears: one was too cold, one was room temp, and one was just right. All three crumbled easily, not staying together, prompting one in my party to ask if she needed a spoon for it. All in all, the portions seem not worth the price anymore and the quality not there. We won't be back. At least the service was decent. Maddie made a pretty good drink that one got at our table, and our waitress (Janson?) was apologetic for the food. read more

This is our second time visiting Camphouse in Diamondhead and we love it. The tuna dip and royal reds were delicous ... the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed date night and our server, Kylah (both times) was fabulous. She was fun, knowledgable and quick. I have had mixed experiences with the oysters. Ordered fried or baked, sometimes they are very good, but about every other time I got a mouthful of grit. They just need to consistently properly rinse those oysters and they would be wonderful. Sure hope management can fix it. Will be back in a week or two to see if the issue has been resolved. Ok, owners says the oysters are just sandy, I understand as I grew up nearby. My response is, The tub oysters are packed in is full of liquid and some sand. A quick rinse before preparing is all that is needed. I am asking you to remove what is on the oyster, not what is inside it. Came here for lunch with my husband and grandmother. Wasn't really that busy. Three other tables had people. Service was very, very slow. There were times our waitress just disappeared. Food was just alright. I got the catfish bites, gumbo and fries. The fries were way over salted. Gumbo was lukewarm. My grandmother got a poyboy and she enjoyed it. Went to Camphouse to celebrate a birthday with a party of seven people. When I called to make the reservation I was told that I could bring a birthday cake. I was NOT told that there is a "cake fee" of $5.00. Jasmine was our waitress and her service was terrible! Once she took our order she never came back to the table to see if we needed anything. We were really excited to try this restaurant. The atmosphere was really nice. When we arrived we asked if she could put the game on the TV and she said "when i get a chance" we were one of probably 4 tables. We waited 20 minutes for our waitress to take our drink order. When she came back and took our food order we waited an hour until we finally asked her how much longer the food would be. She said the bell rang and she would check and brought someone else's food out and didn't even check on us. She did not refill our drinks or check on us throughout the time either. The only good thing is the waitress was nice whenever she did talk to us but we probably will not be back. If we didn't have hungry kids this probably wouldn't have been as big as an issue but the service was pretty poor. We will stick to the Camphouse in Long Beach. read more

No matter how you try to sugarcoat your story it doesn't change for 29 people, that is the 29 people that shared our most important special day that your restaurant helped to destroy. I know what was told to me when I made the reservation, the reason I know this is because I asked three times to make sure that she understood what I was wanting. I also know what our server told us , that several of the workers had walked out and she had to take care of the tables and the bar , that's why the service was so bad. There was not a single person at our party that bragged on your food and complimented the service and everything else that went along with it. A matter of fact, everyone complained to me. The food was horrible, the service was terrible and it was a very big disappointment because the second table that you put our Friends at was so far away made it very hard to talk to them without having to get up and leave the table and walk over to theirs. Let me say this before you answer again, if it wasn't bad, why did you refund the money to two of my friends? The birthday party meant a lot to all of us, and we were looking for that special place to share and make a lot of memories. You will not have to worry about any of my 29 people that were there, because they will not be back and neither will my family. The owner replied in detail so I guess that's a plus, but the reply did not change the facts or our opinions. To respond to a few specifics, the review happened to be posted on July 4, but the visits in the review were in June and May. We gave it two chances and won't be giving it another. As far as reviewing the wrong business, Diamondhead is a very small community so there is no mistake about it being "The Camphouse." There are only two restaurants on the south side of I10: The Camphouse (previously the Lazy Gator, itself a real disaster, at the old DH yacht club location at the harbor) and a Mexican restaurant (in the only strip center south of I10). As to the prices/charges, there is no mistake on that either. I don't know whether the owner knew about it but the prices mentioned in the review were right from the receipts. As to the source of the food, our waitress told us when specifically asked about the fish that all of the food, including the seafood, was "from the (food service - she named it, I won't) truck." While the owner may not know what the staff is doing or saying, a problem in itself, they are doing it. I do not retract anything in the review, and in the time between the original review and this update, we've heard similar things from others. Numerous Diamondhead locals are a "no-go" on the place. Given what we've heard since the review, I'm going to change from two stars to a single star and suggest avoiding this restaurant. Hopefully the owner will take charge and improve the place, but we're done. read more
