I was on a mission to buy flowers to make an arrangement for my niece's funeral service. I had planned on going to Trader Joe's for their flower selection, but decided to try Save Mart on Pelendale on the way. What a wonderful arrangement of bouquets and floral arrangements! Save Mart has always been mediocre when it comes to what they offer. They offered something different this time, milk, tea, Boba. I was pretty surprised and thought I would give it a try. Today I had the worst experience at the check out. First of all I am a Save Mart member. Reluctantly, I go to my app each time I shop and mark all the coupons and sale prices items. This is the only way Save Mart will give me their ad prices . It doesn't matter that you have to enter your phone number, you still have to go to the app and mark the coupons and sales items. I get to the register for check out and my sales items are not showing. I tell the checker who asks, is it in the ad? I tell him it's on my app. He then has to get a bagger to go and check. Why don't the employees have a paper ad at the register. This went on for several items as they were not ringing up the correct price. The line behind me started to go all the way back No one that works there had any sense of urgency. Gal came over and said oh yeah our digital coupons aren't working. Not my problem!!! Why do I the consumer know what's on the ad and not the employees. It literally took 15-20 minutes to get checked out. Word of advice to management, have your employees know what's on sale, have ads at the front registers and finally why isn't my phone number enough to get the membership pricing? Bigger and better. That's what our society is always seeking. Case in point, the new Save Mart on Pelandale in Modesto. The store officially opened for business today. As I entered the store I was surprised at how much bigger this store is compared to other Save Marts in the area. I headed toward the produce section. Huge variety! Unusual varieties of fruits and veggies (Buddha's Hands and yellow cauliflower) are displayed next to more familiar types such as apples and carrots. There is a huge bakery section with some adorable speciality cakes on display. My little nephew would LOVE the pirate ship cake! The smell of freshly baked bread made my mouth water. The meat and fish counters featured a nice selection of choice cuts and seafood. Since today was the grand opening, good sale prices were found throughout the store. I picked up some fresh blueberries and raspberries (over 15 ounces) for $5.99 each! Quite the bargain I must say. All in all, the new Save Mart is quite impressive and worth checking out. read more

So a couple of days ago, to my dissapointment I encountered something rather disturbing in the butcher block. I ordered some calamari steaks that I had been craving all day and when I got home there was nothing fresh about them. I'm surprised the meat guy didn't catch the sogginess of the steaks. I've dabbled in other stores to find many of my staple items but always seem to come back here even though they aren't always the lowest price. I still appreciate how clean and convenient the store is to mi casa. The clerks also are very kind, especially the ones that see me early in the morning when I do the majority of my shopping trips. Customer service at this store is awful; today has made it my FINAL & LAST TIME I WILL BE IN THIS STORE! I've been coming to this store since it opened and have never been awed over the mediocre customer service, but have tolerated it because it's closest to my house. I've had friends/family complain to corporate & the store manager also, but obviously on deaf ears because the environment steadily keeps getting worse over time. The typical rudeness is most of the employees, mainly the checkers, do not want to smile and always seem bothered. Today - I was trying to use the self-check, searched around the self-check area for a wet wipe because the registrar area I was going to use was dirty. Couldn't find any wipes; eventually their employee Chanel walked up & I asked if she had any wipes for the registrar I was about to use. She looked annoyed, responded "over at the front door" & then pointed me in that direction. In astonishment, I then took my cart to the loooong checkout line. Once it was my turn the cashier just started scanning my groceries; NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED ME.....NO HELLO.....NO EYE CONTACT.... NOTHING.....did not say one word to me until she handed me my receipt. She was dressed sloppily with her apron hanging below her breasts & no name tag; I'm assuming her name is Kassandra because that's what my receipt states. She had no idea what just happened to me over at self-check so it's not like her rudeness was due to that. Point being the rude employee environment is rancid in this store. Monica the "assistant manager" was lazy and Rude. I came in asking for a money order to pay my rent because I usually get them from here as I buy my groceries, as the cashier with long black hair started to process my money order, Monica or at least I think that's her name said "our system automatically locks her out for money orders after 10pm" when I know I always get them From this location every month. I asked "I usually always get them here and there's never a problem" she looked at me sarcastically and said "I don't know what store you get them at but not here" as she strutted with attitude to the customer servixe desk. Making me feel like a complete idiot, due to this issue I WILL NEVER return to this location, she made me feel like a total idiot standing there and worst of all the cashier who has made the money orders for me before didn't back me up. I called and asked to speak with the manager and she lied to me telling me she was the store manager. I repeatedly had to ask her if she truly was the "WHOLE LOCATION MANAGER" because I needed to let him know about my terrible experience here and because of her I will never be returning to this location. I'm fairly impressed with how this store is doing during the pandemic. I've shopped at this store for years. Staff is very friendly. My cart is always cleaned. As an observant person I'm saddened for how some of these employees are treated by customers. Most of these employees ringing up/bagging your groceries are children! I recognize their efforts while some days lines are long and the pin pad isn't wiped in between every customer but I can tell they are doing their best and that's why I continue to shop at this Pelandale store. DO NOT Order a custom cake from this place. We have tried TWICE now and both times they have ruined events at my wife's work. This second time was the worst. The piping was horrible and not even close to what we asked for. The cake looked so bad, she actually had to settle for a pre-made cake from the display. When they brought out the replacement cake, the lettering on it looked like e three year old wrote it. My wife was in tears and has to bring a cake to a coworker's baby shower that looks like garbage. I am very disappointed in this savemart after what happened this morning. I was looking at all the choices of floral arrangements they have here because they seem to have the biggest selection of arrangements compared to the savemart by my home. I took quite a while choosing which floral arrangement was the best because they were going to be a birthday bouquet for my coworker who loves flowers, so they needed to be perfect. Most of the floral arrangements I saw were old, dried up, or falling apart. I really had a hard time finding an amazing, nice looking bouquet until I looked in the back of the fridge (that's where they keep the freshest ones.) I took the time inspecting each arrangement making sure it was perfect. Finally, as I turned around with the arrangement, there was a security guard right next to me. Very obvious he was sent to watch me or keep an eye on me. Did I look that suspicious trying to look for a floral arrangement that they had to send a security to watch me? I should've confronted him about it. Maybe I should have even asked for his opinion on the floral arrangement I chose since no employee there tried to assist me at all. Also, very noticeable that the security guard began to follow me to the check out lane. I totally get it sir you want that bonus check if you catch someone stealing, but you ain't getting it from me! I am writing this review and sadness because this Save Mart on Pelandale is nicer than all the other Save Mart stores and having lived in the central valley for 20 years I think I've Save Mart as our neighborhood grocery store but last night I went and bought some hamburger which the price looked too good to be true it was still expensive but the packaging looked great and the meat look nice and red and fresh I was disgusted to open it up this morning and find that other than the outside fake layer of red meat the inside was disgusting Old smelly meat. Shame on Savemart , shame on them for tricking their neighbors who work hard for their money, shame on giving them food that is not quality and maybe not even safe as this really smelled once you took the beautiful red pieces that they had planted on top. I mostly disappointed that they thought they can get away with it by putting fresh meat over old smelly meat to try to get rid of it they should just have sold it in a package that looked old and smelly if they were brave enough to do so. Th is a particularly difficult topic topic for me as my son nearly died of hemolytic uremic from bad ground beef 16 years ago so this kind of stuff really hurts me but I have forever lost trust in this grocery chain and I can see why stores such as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's or sprouts are becoming more popular given this corporate environment. read more

This store is a complete train wreck. They are always out of stock and there seems to be no sense of urgency to restock the store. It seriously looks like they have been looted. There are never enough cashiers and all of them have an indifferent attitude. I wish they would just sell the company to someone else that knows how to run grocery stores. They are over priced and half of the store is out of stock and it's been that way for months. There seems to be no action plan to fix anything. They receive 1 truck a day and if it's not enough to fill the shelves nobody cares. The in stock condition was terrible before the COVID19 pandemic and now it's like the company as a whole has all but given up. Please do the neighborhood a favor and just get out of the grocery business. At this point, the company need new management from top to bottom. They can remodel a store a dozen times but if you can't stay in stock what is the point? We need food not fake wood floors. If I could give this store less than one star I would. When was this store last walked by a supervisor like a Regional Manager? It's like SaveMart has been abandoned by its owner and entire upper management team.
