    Iced tea
    Corey N.

Adorable place. Came here for the first time to read and chill before a local bowling event. Having their own bakery area provides some nice fresh chooses to go with one's coffee or team. A little parking on the street and right across the street is a nice parking garage so there was no problem finding a spot. The staff was more than helpful as I needed some guidance to pick the right beverage and treat for me. Even better this day was an unexpected Silent Reading group in the store. Fit perfectly into my plans for iced tea and read myself!

Finally stopped by after being curious about it forever! What a charming vibe - very light and open and comfortable. Plenty of space between tables. I opted for a cardamom bun and an iced tea, but saw many things I'd like to come back to try! There was a mix up with our order (technical issue with the ticket system) and the customer service was outstanding without even being asked. Already daydreaming about returning for a cinnamon bun.

The best bakeshop and coffee shop in the area! Sucha hidden gem in Modesto. Was here for work and thought I'll stop by somewhere for a quick breakfast. It's super cozy inside w/ Christmas decors, piano, tables and a couch. I'm also a fan of their red brick walls. That cardamom bun was delicious and they warmed it up for me. Matcha latte was alright - won't be as great as what I can get in Japan/Korea but this is one of the best you can get in the West Coast. Service was quick b/c I was there early in the morning. Def worth coming esp if you're around for work.

    Chocolate chip cookie

I came on a Thursday right before closing and the very friendly and kind young man behind the counter gave me cookies freshly baked rather than the ones that were on display and not as fresh. I thought that was very kind of him. And wow. The chocolate chip cookies! So delicious! Blows any other cookie out of the water. Perfect texture: crisp on the outside, just perfectly soft on the inside. Great flavor and I always appreciate the balance of sprinkled sea salt on top. There was no one else in the business (again it was 10-minutes to closing) and I was just picking up an order of chocolate chip cookies, but the inside is super cute and I definitely want to go back and try more and stay for a coffee. Support small business and spend your money here!!

    Very nice aesthetic!

This is my first time checking this place out the ambiance is there but the service fell short. I love to support small businesses! The place is very nice and inviting and the vibes are all there. I will say when we walked in we were not greeted and the staff was not the most appreciable or friendly. Maybe it was an off day. The coffee menu is very basic and limited but what I did order was decent. The pastry's are very fresh and they bake them in house that part was amazing. I will defiantly come back cause I'm sure the bad customer service was just maybe a bad day and I get that. I will say, I did see the owner interviewing someone, she interviewed the person, while on the other side of the counter, standing up, she seemed in a hurry and she did not acknowledge us at all. Most small businesses I've visited when the owner is there, they personally walk around their establishment and are friendly asking if there is anything else needed, trust me that goes a long way with customers.

Such a cute bakery in Downtown Modesto! Loved the decor. This is a great place to come and get some studying or work done. The seating area is pretty big so there are plenty of seats to choose from. We came to try their cruffin, but they sold out unfortunately. Tried their monkey bread and salted caramel bread pudding. Both paired well with a nice hot cup of coffee. Service was super friendly and we were given plenty of recommendations. Will be back soon to try their cruffin!!

I just wanted to grab something quick and check out the bake shop briefly since I had already eaten breakfast. However, I feel like this bakeshop would be a lovely place to sit down and have a coffee and breakfast snack, too. I love the brick walls of this place, as it gives the shop a slight rustic vibe. I did not feel like they had much bakery selections when we went. I was hoping to find more savory things, but mostly sweet things were on display. Since my husband and I were going to make a gingerbread house later, I decided to buy 2 macarons to hopefully use for the gingerbread house. They were definitely on the more pricey side of macarons, even in the Bay Area and Paris macarons have not cost as much as they did at this bakeshop, but they tasted festive as we ordred green macarons with a peppermint filling. I also realize I should have asked for a box to contain the macarons, as macarons are fragile so I found it a little strange that they gave me a bag. In any case, service was friendly, and I don't know if I would go out of my way to come to this bakery again, but if I'm in the area and am carving something sweet, perhaps I would stop by.

The Bakeshop, it pains me to write a 4 star yelp review. But the truth is I have been there 3 times and it just hasn't been perfect. One time the register messed up, another time the line got long and a good wait time had occurred at the point of purchase. But never mind all that! The Bakeshop is amazing!! Really l and I mean REALLY nice people, super delicious sweets. Like the chocolate chip cookie is soft but firm around the edges. I love that. The Cruffin is my favorite. Pretty much the Bakeshop is cool. For more pictures and video go to my instagram @ RealRonaldReviews

    caramel macchiato and peppermint brookie
    Fatima ..

I haven't tried much of the coffee here besides an iced caramel macchiato. It was more on the basic side but the service was great and very quick. I really enjoyed their peppermint brookie. The best part about this place is the ambiance!! It's such a great place to do work or hang out with friends over some coffee. I wish they had longer hours!

    Variety of pastries

Took myself here NYE for a final year treat! Totally delicious pastries the environment was very calm and clean. Took some pastries home after sitting in the relaxed seating area and had a warm coffee. Happy to say this is my new spot for when im craving a treat ;)

The crossiants and pastries were good. We came by and got a plain croissant, ham & cheese croissant, cruffins, porkstrami scone, and bread pudding. I think I spent over $30 for all those items. Good croissant, but not worth the hefty $6. Then again, I'm used to the competition in larger cities where prices are more reasonable.

There were limited quantities of each so I'm not sure if they have more things on the weekends, which would totally make sense for a local small business on a random Tuesday. Parking is easy once you find it and although the inside is very small there are a few chairs and cafe tables perfect for a duo. Nonetheless, we left with a good haul and got one of almost everything: Red velvet slice, Carrot cake slice, Chocolate Mousse slice, Chocolate brownie, and Lemon bar. They also had a sheet cake, a small pack of cupcakes and cake pops in a separate case, so I wasn't sure if those were preorders or display or available for purchase. Here's what I loved: THE BROWNIE. One of the best I've ever had! The lemon bar was also delicious, super tart and perfectly baked. I'd get either of those again! Customer service was very friendly, prices were clearly displayed and fair, and the portions were good sizes. Here's what I just liked: The cake part of the red velvet, mousse, and carrot cake was a bit dry. They were beautifully decorated, the frosting and fillings were great, but the cake itself just wasn't as soft and moist as I was hoping. Another Yelper mentioned sticking the cake in the microwave and I wish I would have tried that. Definitely a small business worth supporting!

Upon entering, I was struck by three things, how friendly the worker was, how hard the door was to open (I do have mobility issues on occasion), and how little there was on display to choose from. Still, I found a couple of nice items (red velvet and some serious chocolate cake) my wife loved the chocolate but we found the red velvet to be quite dry and hard. I suspect that it had been in the case far too long. Fortunately the chocolate was so good, my wife said that it more than made up for it. Overall, the ambiance was simple bakery, nice folks, serving well. I suspect where these nice folks shine is in pre-orders (which makes TOTAL sense, as foot traffic, particularly in this bakery's location would be a tough sell indeed). I suspect that we will be keeping Dessert European Cakes and Pastries in mind for our upcoming bakery needs.

However, if your not local and purchase from the vendors in the bay area, then your prone to the time it sat at the bakery, travel time to bay area and how long it's been sitting on the shelve before you bought it. Did that! the product went bad the next day! We happen to be in town and stopped by. This was our opportunity to visit for awhile because we moved from Modesto to the bay area and we always bought here when we were local. We requested pandesal on the rack. I wouldn't think that be a problem if a customer requested that versus that already packaged, mind you that it's not every customers expectation, so do it. I'm a Manager in Customer Service so this was the test because the last visit a while back was off and about the same with the same exact aura on the front-end and I just thought maybe it was that one day. There was asian woman and white woman at the front counter. The white woman approached and we requested. Then for some reason the asian woman responded with this attitude that it was fresh and brought out. I could tell she got irritated because she disappeared to the back and never seen. The white woman rung us up, but then you can tell she was brushed off with the same attitude of the asian woman and she rung us up so quickly to get us out. This was similar to our last visit from a year ago and I still remember that visit! Ambiance is great on the first minute before you enter with the aroma, but once you make contact at the front counter and make requests. Good luck! The 3 stars here is strictly the hopia and pandesal we bought that were amazing. The customer service was deteriorated by 2 stars. Just want to make that clear!

I even told them I don't like buttercream because it's too sweet and that I didn't want it anywhere on this cake. When I placed the order, they asked if they could add a little buttercream to the outside for texture. I said okay, but only a tiny bit mixed with the whipped cream. What showed up was all buttercream on the outside with zero whipped cream. When I asked about it, they told me it was whipped cream. I know what I'm tasting, and so did my guests. It was definitely buttercream. The inside was even worse. There was some ganache but barely any. The further we cut into the cake, the more buttercream we found. I did not want buttercream inside the cake at all. I barely agreed to a little on the outside and they didn't even respect that. The photos show it clearly. The further we cut, the messier and more uneven it got with just buttercream and buttercream. One slice had a thin layer of ganache with barely any pecans or caramel. Everything else was buttercream. I picked this bakery because I had a good experience with them the first time. The design looked nice, but the cake itself was really disappointing. Way too sweet from all that buttercream I specifically said I didn't want. I gave them detailed feedback with photos. Instead of owning up to it, the decorator got defensive. He said he used buttercream as glue to hold the cake together. But that doesn't make sense. If ganache worked fine as glue on my first order with them (which had no buttercream inside at all), why couldn't he do the same thing this time? He just chose to use a lot of buttercream instead of actually following what I asked for. I even sent more photos pointing out exactly where the problem was. But they still insisted it was whipped cream. My guests noticed it too. So are they lying? Management offered me a 10% discount on my next order. That doesn't help. I paid for a cake that didn't meet what I asked for and it ruined my event. I asked for a 50% refund which seemed fair. They read the message but never answered. Just complete silence. If a bakery is going to charge premium prices for custom cakes, you need to actually follow what the customer asks for. I was crystal clear about what I wanted. That's literally the whole point of a custom order. They like to ignore customers when there's an issue. I was ignored at first, then only responded after I pointed out how unprofessional they were handling things. That's when they offered the 10% discount. But the moment I asked for a fair 50% refund, they ghosted me completely. No response, nothing. That says everything you need to know about how they treat customers who have legitimate concerns.
