Iced tea
Corey N.

Adorable place. Came here for the first time to read and chill before a local bowling event. Having their own bakery area provides some nice fresh chooses to go with one's coffee or team. A little parking on the street and right across the street is a nice parking garage so there was no problem finding a spot. The staff was more than helpful as I needed some guidance to pick the right beverage and treat for me. Even better this day was an unexpected Silent Reading group in the store. Fit perfectly into my plans for iced tea and read myself!

Stopped by Bakeshop, the cute little local bakery next to the children's museum, for a quick breakfast on our way to Fresno. It wasn't busy around 8:30am, which made it an easy and relaxing stop. The staff were friendly, and there were already plenty of fresh pastries out and ready to go. We picked up the sweet potato twist, pizza danish, and a Biscoff sticky bun. The pizza danish (especially when warm) and the Biscoff sticky bun were both really delicious. We were a little worried the sticky bun would be overly sweet, but it was surprisingly well-balanced and not too sugary at all, which we really enjoyed. The sweet potato twist was the only miss for me--it didn't have much sweet potato flavor and tasted more like a cinnamon bun. Definitely needed to be heated up to bring out more flavor. Overall, a great little bakery stop, and I'd happily come back if I'm in the area again!

I really liked it. It was a very nice environment and coffee is pretty good. Service is great, they are very welcoming people. Especially the pastries are really good every time I come here.

Chocolate chip cookie

I came on a Thursday right before closing and the very friendly and kind young man behind the counter gave me cookies freshly baked rather than the ones that were on display and not as fresh. I thought that was very kind of him. And wow. The chocolate chip cookies! So delicious! Blows any other cookie out of the water. Perfect texture: crisp on the outside, just perfectly soft on the inside. Great flavor and I always appreciate the balance of sprinkled sea salt on top. There was no one else in the business (again it was 10-minutes to closing) and I was just picking up an order of chocolate chip cookies, but the inside is super cute and I definitely want to go back and try more and stay for a coffee. Support small business and spend your money here!!

cardamom bun & matcha w/ almond milk

The best bakeshop and coffee shop in the area! Sucha hidden gem in Modesto. Was here for work and thought I'll stop by somewhere for a quick breakfast. It's super cozy inside w/ Christmas decors, piano, tables and a couch. I'm also a fan of their red brick walls. That cardamom bun was delicious and they warmed it up for me. Matcha latte was alright - won't be as great as what I can get in Japan/Korea but this is one of the best you can get in the West Coast. Service was quick b/c I was there early in the morning. Def worth coming esp if you're around for work.

Service was quick. I did ask if they sold sandwiches but their specialty is their baked goods and coffee. I was given my receipt and told by staff that I could get 15% off my order at the restaurant next door if I presented it to them. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and the staff warmed it up for me. The croissant was flaky and I liked the everything but the bagel seasoning on top. I also purchased their chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate muffin. The cookie was thick and chewy on the inside. The semi sweet chocolate chucks topped with sea salt was a delightful combination which uplifted my energy levels during that dreaded afternoon crash. My coworker ate the chocolate muffin and she said it made her day! Mind you, she doesn't even like chocolate! After placing my order I took a walk around. The layout of the bakery let's the customers see the bakers crafting the delicious pastries. The calming music, the pops of green plants, mixed with the eclectic collection of vintage decor made me sparkle with inspiration. This feels like a place you can come with friends to catch up. Can't wait to get their coffee the next time I visit.

Finally stopped by after being curious about it forever! What a charming vibe - very light and open and comfortable. Plenty of space between tables. I opted for a cardamom bun and an iced tea, but saw many things I'd like to come back to try! There was a mix up with our order (technical issue with the ticket system) and the customer service was outstanding without even being asked. Already daydreaming about returning for a cinnamon bun.

Very nice aesthetic!

This is my first time checking this place out the ambiance is there but the service fell short. I love to support small businesses! The place is very nice and inviting and the vibes are all there. I will say when we walked in we were not greeted and the staff was not the most appreciable or friendly. Maybe it was an off day. The coffee menu is very basic and limited but what I did order was decent. The pastry's are very fresh and they bake them in house that part was amazing. I will defiantly come back cause I'm sure the bad customer service was just maybe a bad day and I get that. I will say, I did see the owner interviewing someone, she interviewed the person, while on the other side of the counter, standing up, she seemed in a hurry and she did not acknowledge us at all. Most small businesses I've visited when the owner is there, they personally walk around their establishment and are friendly asking if there is anything else needed, trust me that goes a long way with customers.

Took myself here NYE for a final year treat! Totally delicious pastries the environment was very calm and clean. Took some pastries home after sitting in the relaxed seating area and had a warm coffee. Happy to say this is my new spot for when im craving a treat ;)

Such a cute bakery in Downtown Modesto! Loved the decor. This is a great place to come and get some studying or work done. The seating area is pretty big so there are plenty of seats to choose from. We came to try their cruffin, but they sold out unfortunately. Tried their monkey bread and salted caramel bread pudding. Both paired well with a nice hot cup of coffee. Service was super friendly and we were given plenty of recommendations. Will be back soon to try their cruffin!!

I just wanted to grab something quick and check out the bake shop briefly since I had already eaten breakfast. However, I feel like this bakeshop would be a lovely place to sit down and have a coffee and breakfast snack, too. I love the brick walls of this place, as it gives the shop a slight rustic vibe. I did not feel like they had much bakery selections when we went. I was hoping to find more savory things, but mostly sweet things were on display. Since my husband and I were going to make a gingerbread house later, I decided to buy 2 macarons to hopefully use for the gingerbread house. They were definitely on the more pricey side of macarons, even in the Bay Area and Paris macarons have not cost as much as they did at this bakeshop, but they tasted festive as we ordred green macarons with a peppermint filling. I also realize I should have asked for a box to contain the macarons, as macarons are fragile so I found it a little strange that they gave me a bag. In any case, service was friendly, and I don't know if I would go out of my way to come to this bakery again, but if I'm in the area and am carving something sweet, perhaps I would stop by.

Way too expensive. I paid $12.58, I think it was, for two croissants. Not going there ever again.

From the first call to the girl I spoke with to picking the cake up was an amazing experience. Placing the order was easy, sent the images thru text, and sent all the details the same way. Then called and placed the final order. When we picked the cake up it got damaged once we arrived at home (100% our fault) we call them immediately and explained what happened to the cake. They said to bring it back and they would try to fix it. Fix it they did!! You couldn't even tell. I am so thankful for Village Baking for making my daughter's 16th birthday cake dream come true. The flavor was fundetti with vanilla custard and it was fresh, and light. Not really a butter cream fan but it was necessary for this cake. The buttercream was light, fully and delicious. Thank you Village Baking Company and staff for an amazing cake!

Truly loved it, and they had more available at the store that isn't shown on Grubhub. Great for gifting and if you want. High quality bakery. Super nice staff, plenty of parking , small storefront. There were limited quantities of each so I'm not sure if they have more things on the weekends, which would totally make sense for a local small business on a random Tuesday. Parking is easy once you find it and although the inside is very small there are a few chairs and cafe tables perfect for a duo. Nonetheless, we left with a good haul and got one of almost everything: Red velvet slice, Carrot cake slice, Chocolate Mousse slice, Chocolate brownie, and Lemon bar. They also had a sheet cake, a small pack of cupcakes and cake pops in a separate case, so I wasn't sure if those were preorders or display or available for purchase. Here's what I loved: THE BROWNIE. One of the best I've ever had! The lemon bar was also delicious, super tart and perfectly baked. I'd get either of those again! Customer service was very friendly, prices were clearly displayed and fair, and the portions were good sizes. Here's what I just liked: The cake part of the red velvet, mousse, and carrot cake was a bit dry. They were beautifully decorated, the frosting and fillings were great, but the cake itself just wasn't as soft and moist as I was hoping. Another Yelper mentioned sticking the cake in the microwave and I wish I would have tried that. Definitely a small business worth supporting!

I liked the Chocolate with peanut butter frosting best, Hubbs liked the chocolate on chocolate! I even told them I don't like buttercream because it's too sweet and that I didn't want it anywhere on this cake. When I placed the order, they asked if they could add a little buttercream to the outside for texture. I said okay, but only a tiny bit mixed with the whipped cream. What showed up was all buttercream on the outside with zero whipped cream. When I asked about it, they told me it was whipped cream. I know what I'm tasting, and so did my guests. It was definitely buttercream. The inside was even worse. There was some ganache but barely any. The further we cut into the cake, the more buttercream we found. I did not want buttercream inside the cake at all. I barely agreed to a little on the outside and they didn't even respect that. The photos show it clearly. The further we cut, the messier and more uneven it got with just buttercream and buttercream. One slice had a thin layer of ganache with barely any pecans or caramel. Everything else was buttercream. I picked this bakery because I had a good experience with them the first time. The design looked nice, but the cake itself was really disappointing. Way too sweet from all that buttercream I specifically said I didn't want. I gave them detailed feedback with photos. Instead of owning up to it, the decorator got defensive. He said he used buttercream as glue to hold the cake together. But that doesn't make sense. If ganache worked fine as glue on my first order with them (which had no buttercream inside at all), why couldn't he do the same thing this time? He just chose to use a lot of buttercream instead of actually following what I asked for. I even sent more photos pointing out exactly where the problem was. But they still insisted it was whipped cream. My guests noticed it too. So are they lying? Management offered me a 10% discount on my next order. That doesn't help. I paid for a cake that didn't meet what I asked for and it ruined my event. I asked for a 50% refund which seemed fair. They read the message but never answered. Just complete silence. If a bakery is going to charge premium prices for custom cakes, you need to actually follow what the customer asks for. I was crystal clear about what I wanted. That's literally the whole point of a custom order. They like to ignore customers when there's an issue. I was ignored at first, then only responded after I pointed out how unprofessional they were handling things. That's when they offered the 10% discount. But the moment I asked for a fair 50% refund, they ghosted me completely. No response, nothing. That says everything you need to know about how they treat customers who have legitimate concerns.
