Came here for lunch around 1130am. You order at the front and then choose your seat. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Very quick service and they are attentive. I'll start with what I liked: Pulled pork- very good. Both spicy and sweet barbecue sauces were very good. And I LOVE when places toast the buns for the sandwiches (which they do). Tater tots- yummy!!! Seasoned nicely. So tasty. Jambalaya: very good. My mom loved it and my dad said it was good. Now to what I really didn't care for: Baked beans: very smoky flavored. Not really a fan of beans like this. Too smoky for me. Cornbread: jalapeño cooked into the cornbread. My mom thought it was very good and crispy. However, I did not care for it. read more

Ribs were Super tender, meat just falls off the bone!! We had the burnt ends, also delicious. We also had their brisket, not fatty, but a little dry, maybe cause it was sliced too thin. Red beans n rice was a little spicy. Bread pudding was unusual with chocolate coating on the outside. read more

Use to be my go to spot in Flag. Again a place that hiked prices and lowered quality, unfortunate.

DEE-LISH-US! The catfish bites were on point as well as the homemade coleslaw! I will be back for the brisket for sure! Also the patio is dog-friendly for your furry pal! read more

It was our first time here back in Feb 2024. We came because they told us the Jambalaya here was food. So we gave it a try. I will be honest. We did not like it maybe we went the wrong day or something happened in the kitchen. Since the Jambalaya had a lot of Greasily Crud from the flat top or something. We were not too happy about it but the spice was there. Service was friendly and nice. The deco of the place is nice very welcoming. Sadly we won't be back since it was a trip we had. Hope doesn't happen all the time or at all and it was his tour bad luck day that day. read more

Love my Yelpers... another WIN! LIMITED MENU (see pictures) We had Southwest coleslaw pickled with jalapenos. Catfish bites battered in cornmeal then fried with tator tots, the Brisket, real sweet tea and for dessert... bread pudding (PHENOMENAL!) Another win in Arizona. Sarchmo's is a small place that has some outdoor seating. Due to restrictions, the seating is extremely limited indoors. As it was getting chilly with the sun down, we chose to eat inside. Currently, they have a limited menu and are were only open until 8pm. We just beat the end of the night rush at 7pm. Loved my catfish bites. They were hot with a crunchy outside and nice thick piece of catfish inside. The brisket was seasoned and the cole slaw had a totally new take on it with jalapeños. My favorite was definitely the bread pudding. Enough to share... big pieces that I think were fried(?) Whatever they did fabulous... only thing missing to me was raisins... Great little place! read more

Ribs were good but the Cole slaw was strange and too vinegary. The bourbon drink was overwhelmed by sugar no taste of bourbon. Restaurant interior was very dated furniture ripped up. But service was fast and friendly. read more

They have the best Jambalaya west of the continental divide. Catfish, the brisket all were extremely flavorful. It was a pleasant meal after a long day at the national park. read more

My first time at Satchmo's was an incredible experience from the run of mill Flagstaff restaurants. They fill a huge gap in dinning than the other places in this town. Exceptional service and great variety on menu. FYI the wine was not to be sniffed at. Even with prices out of the sky this was money well spent! read more

Stopped here based on Yelp reviews. Didn't disappoint. We devoured the food. Beef brisket was cooked just right. Sauce was excellent. Highly recommend the Mac and cheese. The service was excellent. It's kinda place where family share all the meal and don't mind making a mess in the process. read more

Satchmo's - Yes, it got messy. - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Flagstaff, Arizona

This is a small place so definitely make reservations! We had a bit of a wait. So, the meat was absolutely tender juicy flavorful and all of the things. The sides however... lacking big time. The jambalaya is what I personally had and although it was spicy, man it was fabulous!! The mac n cheese did not look appealing and so when we ate it we confirmed what we all already knew. They are extremely kind. They have freshly made lemonades and good sweet tea! Lots of pluses and just a few things that they can work on. I would go back and I still would recommend you try them out and form your own opinion from your experience:) read more

Might be my favorite restaurant in Arizona. I don't think I've ever had a bad or mediocre meal here. The gumbo, blackened catfish/shrimp po-boys, pulled pork, dirty rice, tots, spinach artichoke dip are all phenomenal. Nothing over salted, spiced a good amount, and flavors galore. Beers on draft are great too. The people at the counter are also very friendly as goes for the people that drop your food off at the table. Kindly let you know items you can add more spice too or any specials you may be interested in. Cool space inside and out. Inside is Cozy/small, where you can grab crayons and draw on the butcher's paper on the table. Cool Louis Armstrong posters and trumpets on the wall. Outdoor seating is nice during spring and summer months. Can't recommend this place enough. I stop by every time I'm in Flagstaff.. Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler! read more

We had to get out of the house. Months of pandemic without seeing anything but our local neighborhood. So...road trip!! We traveled safely, avoiding people as much as possible. Staying spaced when it was not possible to avoid them. I am pretty cautious, and I think we did well. But we needed food! I heard about this place, and after driving there I checked out the arrangement. Tables were spaced about 10' apart! Good enough! All outdoors, too. No indoor dining at this time. So we grabbed the last table. We ordered the jambalaya, blackened swai (should have been catfish, but at least they were honest that it was really swai), smoked beans, skillet corn bread, and sliced brisket. The jambalaya was very good, as was the blackened swai. Not "out of this world", but very good. The smoked beans were seriously over-smoked. I like smoked things, and even do my own smoking at home. This was too much. It was like sticking my face inside a smoker and breathing deeply. Couldn't really taste the beans. I have to consider this a "fail". Cut the time in half and the smoke will add flavor instead of overwhelm. The brisket was nothing special. Thinly sliced. It was fine. The skillet cornbread is actually more true to southern cornbread than what you find elsewhere (like Marie Callender's or Famous Dave's). It was a bit heavier, less muffin-like, less sweet. I liked it. I have to ding them for NOT having gumbo or red beans and rice. Both of those are cajun/creole staples, and they had neither of them. I really would have liked to try them. So overall I have to give the meal only three stars. Good jambalaya, authentic cornbread, good fish, average brisket, and poor beans. And no red beans and rice or gumbo. read more

Window say "AZ BBQ Bucket List". Trash bucket is correct. Brisket was chewy and cold, their fan favorite Tots are just freezer tots with a whole container of "special" seasoning on it (Lawry's Seasoned Salt), and the Mac tasted like the stuff I bought at Walmart in college with my last few dollars in my wallet with the left over tot crumbs sprinkled on top. If the is the best BBQ in Flagstaff, I would HATE to see the competition, because if this is the best you got, I'm sticking to the McRib at McDonalds. read more

Heard Satchmo's is a place to try if in the Flagstaff area. Additionally I was craving some good brisket during our stay, so we stopped by for dinner. The brisket was good. A bit on the dry side, but good. I really enjoyed the sides the most, and would definitely recommend the pecan beans and the vinegar coleslaw. Pecan beans had such a nice flavor and the coleslaw (vinegar based with jalapeños!) gave a bit of freshness to my brisket bites. Service was fast. Employees were friendly and patient. I would stop by again - next time to try the catfish! read more

Every trip to Flagstaff we go to Satchmos. Love the food! We had them cater our 50th anniversary party and it was the perfect choice! Arrived on time, the food was awesome! The girls who set up were so nice and super efficient. Tia, who helped me plan the menu and everything knew her stuff! She was amazing! Everyone raved about the food! Thank you Satchmos for making our 50th special! read more

Two stars for the friendly service. The food is way overpriced!! We ordered the pulled pork, baked beans, cornbread, kids meal, and the potato salad. Kids meal 9.00 for ONE small slider a few tater tots and a small piece of bread pudding. The potato salad was absolutely terrible and wasn't a fan of the corn bread. The baked beans were the only thing we liked. The portions are very small and very overpriced. Will not return. Ambiance was ok. read more

Exquisite, scrumptious meal I must say. It may look small but don't let that fool you, this food is to DIE FOR. The brisket was melt in your mouth buttery goodness. The house seasoned tots had the most superb crunch. Half rack of ribs were extraordinary on their own, and even better with the bbq sauce provided. Slaw wasn't for me, but had a very fun unique flavor I feel most would enjoy. Price was fair for the overwhelmingly delicious grub. read more

My boyfriend and I were roadtripping down to the Grand Canyon from Page, AZ and were passing through Flagstaff. We searched for a bite to eat and came across this place and were intrigued by the food. We parked our car and there was a hostess waiting by the parking lot. She asked if we didn't mind a seat in the sun but if they had other openings she'd move us. That hostess went back to her post and one of the servers told us that they would clean up a table. We were sitting for about 10 minutes and didn't receive any menus. After 15 minutes we were never directed to the clean table under the shade and someone who just walked in took the spot. Already irritated, I decided to move us to another open table. We were finally given menus but what irritated me even more was the fact that a new group of people were seated and had their orders taken really angered me and I was about to walk out. We finally got our orders taken and the food came out quickly. The reason why I'm not giving 2 stars is because the food was delicious but services really puts a bad taste in your mouth. Hoping no one else experiences this service but I recommend the shrimp po boy or the blackened catfish on top on jumbalaya read more

Food: Excellent! Drinks: Great! Service: Excellent! Came here with my family on a Friday night at 5:30. Due to the cold weather every guest was limited to dine in or Togo. It was far too chilly to dine outside with the sun down! To start my cousin and I ordered 2 drinks the Hurricane and the Sweet Tea with bourbon. The hurricane was a little sweet but good! We both really enjoyed the sweet tea with bourbon drink! For side dishes we ordered the Jambalaya, dirty rice, and the red beans and rice; all were seasoned very well. If you're sensitive to spice these dishes definitely pack a kick ! The cast iron Mac and cheese was topped with bacon and didn't disappoint! Jalapeno cornbread was delicious! We devoured it at the table! For the mains we had the shrimp po boys and the fried catfish platter ! So yummy! This isn't your traditional sit down restaurant. When you arrive you're greeted with friendly servers who take down your name (if there is a wait) and then they take your order at the register once they have a table available for you. The employees were definitely busy but were very hospitable to all of the guests coming and going! A great GEM in flagstaff ! read more

I happen to play trombone so imagine my surprise to see one hanging on the wall at Sachmo's! We've not tried the cajun but the bbq is good. Went here for the first time with my little family & it's a nice little spot with cool vibes. We ordered the brisket w/ sliders & the mac n cheese. Soooo good! It was big portions & so filling. We had leftovers & it was still good after reheating. Their bbq sauces were really good too! They had both sweet & spicy. The service was great. They brought our food to the table & came around more than once to make sure we were still good. The next time we come back out to flagstaff, we're stopping here. Hole in the wall in a strip mall next to a gas station. But wow! The fried fish, the baby back ribs...amazing! Lots of places promise "fall of the bones ribs" but few deliver. This place does. Satchmo's disappointingly has changed their menu since my last visit. We wanted two, really good, BBQ sandwiches. That's it! To do that you must now buy their meat by the pound. Smallest amount to buy was 1/2lb and they include 3 small buns. It's too much for my appetite and not enough for husband's. You are relegated to get 2-1/2 lb orders which means a "to go" box w left-overs. Or, you must discuss sharing portions at the counter in front of others holding up the line. The slaw looked good and costs $3.99. We should have split because it was a large portion that but husband ordered his own. He also got a soft drink and I got water. Our bill was $47.00! Seemed like a big charge for what we got. It was good but once home leftover's were eventually thrown out. Counter stayed busy so it's working for Satchmo's. Lots of "to-go" boxes were filled when diners left. Maybe they like leftovers more than we do. read more

Super yummy bbq! We got the 1/2 lb of chicken and it was juicy and flavorful. The bbq sauce is one of the best I've ever had no doubt. We also shared the Mac and cheese and jambalaya, and both were good and full of spice. I like the crunchy top on top of the Mac and cheese a lot! read more

This place is a must while in Flagstaff. After reading such great YELP reviews we stopped in. The Jambalaya was delish as was the Cornbread, the pork ribs, catfish & tater tots. We ordered two drinks that were tasty but I can't remember what they were. The service was good, you order at the counter but they have very fast and pleasant servers who bring everything out to you. The patio is very nice & dog friendly and there were at least 4 dogs there. Food was ok. The blackened catfish had way too much seasoning on the fish. All I tasted was seasoning and not really the fish. I had the grilled blackened catfish. Maybe the fried is better? Must say it can be challenging to find good BBQ unless you live in the south. I was a little skeptical at first seeing the chill dudes at the counter only because I'm used to a fast paced almost hectic approach when entering a BBQ spot in Memphis for example. The options were on pare with what I was looking for minus the hot links. We ordered a half pound of brisket and half rack of ribs along with potato salad and sweet potato fries. I must say the ribs the stars, the meat was fallen off the bone tender and seasoned to perfection. The brisket was ok, sliced to then and a little on the dry side. The sweet potato fries were delicious and so was the potato salad. We will be back to try some more items to get a better idea of well they stack up overall. Don't sleep on the spicey BBQ sauce it was incredible took some home. Still it was a good experience with friendly service and tasty food. Local beers served which is always nice.
