Great authentic Korean food in Flagstaff. We had the best service from the staff. We had called before coming to see if there was a wait and they were so accommodating that they reserved us a table last minute because there was a rush. Even throughout our meal they came to check on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying our food. The food came out quick and hot! We recently tried Ko Ki Yo and had a mixed experience. The service was friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the food was average at best. The menu was also more limited than we expected, as it didn't include some of the Korean favorites we're used to seeing, like kalbi. The bulgogi was a bit dry, and while the Korean fried chicken was very crispy, it had very little meat. Overall, if you're looking for an authentic Korean meal with a broader menu and standout food, I would probably skip this one and try another Korean restaurant instead. read more

I made a new friend for life! The Owner of this Korean Restaurant is a strong, confident woman who radiates both confidence and strength. We hit it off immediately with long discussions and reminisces of Korea - in Korean. This is the only Korean restaurant in Flagstaff and she keeps the standards very high. Her menu is fairly short - what sells is what she offers. Today I had the jeyuk bokkeum (sweet/spicy pork) and spouse had spicy chicken soup - a yukkaejang but with dak (chicken). Probably the worst Korean food I have ever had at a restaurant. I feel bad saying this since the waitress was nice, but I can't tell yelpers a lie. Some of the previous reviews were several years ago and I think quite possibly it has changed ownership and cooks since the food didn't even look like the pictures I saw on yelp and several things on the small menu were not served there any more when we tried order them. So it is the saddest thing when the only food item that was good that we tasted at this restaurant was the pickled cucumbers they brought as a side dish. Yikes!!! I wonder what the people who recently reviewed were thinking. Wow. The rest of our food was not good at all. I probably had the worst soon-dubu I ever had in my entire life. It tasted like they put a single shin ramen season packet (for the red coloring) into like a couple gallon of water and heated it up, threw some tofu and some pieces of seafood and then charged 20 bucks to make like a 19 dollar profit!!!! It was shocking that they actually serve that and called it soondubu! It was so so bland! Usually soondubu soup has deep flavors with some kick. This one was like hot water with slight hint of shin ramen packet. Also the rice they gave me with it was old and rubbery. It had a smell of rice that was almost at the brink of going bad. It actually tasted like they got old rice they had put in the fridge and microwaved it. I have never seen a Korean restaurant mess up the most basic thing like RICE! The bibimbap wasn't much better. Flavorless and instead of a fried egg on top like normal, they actually had a sweet Japanese style egg that was rolled. This is why I think maybe the chef doesn't know how to cook Korean food and is faking it. I was so so so disappointed and disgusted that I stopped eating and left after paying my bill. The waitress was so nice i gave her some tip since it's not her fault the food was so bad! Like I am not lying, we left and went to a different restaurant and ordered food to go and had dinner in our hotel room!!! I can honestly say that the first time I had to do that after going out to dinner!!!! Beware, food is ok but this place is not kid friendly and the owner is incredibily rude. I have been to thousands of restaurants but this one left us the worst impression. Food is ok overall 4/5 (Tofu seafood soup: 5/5, omurice 4/5, spicy chicken soup 4/5, Bibimbowl 4/5 but I wouldn't say it was special. The owner scolded us why not having her drink water lol Then my toddler was drinking water from the cup directly as she always does. The owner scolded us. Yes, scolded. She told us close the lid and have her drink the water from the straw. At this point, I wanted to leave but because we already ordered. We didn't want to be impolite... My friend ordered an omurice and kimchi soup. When the food is out, the owner looked at her with a weird look shaking her head thinking she eated too much. Lol. She was smiling to other Caucasian customers while always judgemental and somehow unhappy to our group (Asian people) although we were polite and followed her directions the whole time. This little spot Asian-owned eatery leaves a lasting impression. Despite the fact that I live 350 miles away, I cannot get Kokiyo's katsudon out of my brain. I want to relive the meal over and over again. I stopped by in December while visiting nearby family. Kokyio had been on my must-visit list for some time, so I was excited to get my parents outside of their comfort zone to try something new. I ordered the chicken katsudon which came with the thinnest, juiciest, fried chicken I've ever tasted. The egg on top was the absolute best addition. While looking for food on Thanksgiving, my husband and I were able to stumbled upon this restaurant in Flagstaff around 8PM. They were offering a Thanksgiving special menu, and unfortunately, it was only that menu that they were offering for the evening. This made it hard to make a decision since every meal was $20 and you cannot really order sides of things. But really , $20 for all of the food that came in the meal, it was also a really great option and so much food! We ordered the Korean fried chicken and the Bibimbop, both which were really good. We also got some of the spicy pork which was yummy and spicy indeed! We were missing one of our sides, which was replaced with a larger side of just cucumbers... this was actually a blessing in disguise as those cucumbers were amazing! I would honestly order a side of those again! We found this place when visiting Flagstaff. And exploring the downtown area. This place was a short distance away from the busy part of downtown across the train tracks. The kimchi tasted like it might be starting to go bad. Our entrees were good. Both came with a small bowl of purple rice. The seafood soup tasted good but there was not a lot of seafood. It had mostly tofu. The seafood consisted of a few mussels and shrimp. A woman that I'm assuming was the owner snapped at us that our child had to be in the high chair ([[HIGHLIGHT]]she'll typically sit in our lap or in an adult chair at first for distraction until it's time to eat[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]) and then glared across the restaurant when she started to cry when we put her into the high chair as requested. We headed up north to Flagstaff to escape the summer heat of Phoenix and enjoy some hiking, and decided to stop by Kokiyo after seeing it on TikTok. I ordered kimchi soup, nakasaki udon and dakgangjung(fried chicken), the chicken doesn't taste like it at all since I was grown up near Ktown LA I know how authentic Korean chicken tastes like, this was more like orange chicken. Army stew soup was single serving which included your usual suspects like ramen noodles, sausages, kimchi and tofu. It tasted more like kimchi stew. Spicy chicken soup was my favorite out of all dishes because the broth was best out of all of them. Nothing here is exceptional but satisfied our Korean food cravings. Stopped at at Kokiyo tonight for dinner in Flagstaff and this Korean restaurant is spot on! The service was outstanding from Emilay. She was very knowledgeable about all the items and a wonderful host. The spicy sauces were delicious. I tried both the teriyaki as well as the spicy chicken sauces. Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious. For a second, I thought I was actually in Seoul, ROK and Hongik University again I had the beef Bulgogi and it was delicious. It was an unfortunate time for us to of had lunch there today. It's close quarters in the dining area. While we awaited our food, we heard a loud prolonged quarrel in the kitchen followed by the employee seemingly get fired. Aside from this, the food was hot, fresh and good. It was just out of balance with all items being on the sweet side. Obviously, sugar/sweetness is a stable ingredient in Asian food and here it was out of balance. My spicy pork entree was on the sweet side and so were the pickled vegetables, the beef entrees, the picked cucumber. We asked for spicy sauce on the side and it could be house made but it was more sweet than spicy. Just as the spicy sauce that comes with the Korean fried chicken. The one item we're all confused by were the spicy edamame. They were steamed but served completely dry, saltless with supposed dry spicy powder on top that was flavorless.
