Sassool is definitely my favorite "healthy" meal option in the Triangle. It's a Mediterranean place that serves a variety of sandwiches/wraps but also a ton of Mediterranean side dishes. My favorite option is to go with the "Pick 3" or "Pick 4" options and pick 3 or 4 sides to put together as a meal - the cilantro jalapeño hummus and orzo salads are my personal favorite! The selection isn't as crazy as say Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill but there are a ton of delicious side options to choose from! Also enjoy ending the meal with a slice of baklava and I like their pita bread as well! Love this restaurant! No skimping on portions at this location. The taboule was fresh and flavorful. The bread was warm and fresh. I love the beet hummus as it has a mild flavor to it and great texture. I asked for a side of labheh with my kibbe and they gave me a big portion. Super tasty! I've been to their Cary location, but never this one in Raleigh. Very similar and you can expect the same experience at both locations. I have a hard time ordering anything except for the salad combo plates, so many options to chose from. On this visit I ended up going with the Mediterranean tuna salad, grape leaves, and hummus. The Mediterranean tuna salad had a note that it was new and improved and it was quite tasty, I'd definitely get that again. The grape leaves were good and the hummus was awesome. Super flavorful and just overall delicious. A favorite of my friends is the lentils, I sampled some and they were tasty. I'd definitely get those next time. Sassool for dinner tonite. This is one of my favorites. For hot food, it's an order at the counter, take your number to the table place. If you order just salads from the display case, you carry your tray, cafeteria style. Tonite I had lamb kabobs, beet salad and mjadarah (lentils and rice with caramelized onions). The kabobs are cooked to order (be prepared to wait a few extra minutes). They're nice chunks of marinated lamb, grilled medium and scrumptious! Beets are pickled, with onions and tartly flavorful. Mjadarah is delicious - the blend of the texture and flavor of the lentils and rice, brought together by sweetish caramelized onions. Yum! Amy had the 4 side combo platter. She chose mediterranean chicken salad, root salad, sweet potato salad and tzatiki. The chicken salad is made from chunks of grilled chicken, mediterranean spices, walnuts, and a garlic dressing. Definitely not your bland deli chicken salad... delicious. The sweet potato salad is chunks of roasted sweet potatoes, spinach, celery, raisins, scallions, red bell pepper, vinegar and spices. It's an unique blend, with a little kick. All the meals are served with house baked pita bread - served warm and puffed up. Best way to devour the tzatiki is to dip the pita - tzatiki is creamy and garlicky and chock full of diced cucumber. There's a huge variety of different choices on the menu, something for everyone. Meh, not fabulous. I went with my standard Mediterranean dish that I get everywhere: falafel pita, couscous, and tabouli (got it with quinoa at Sassool). The pita bread was really dry and hard on the edges, like it was overdone. The pickled turnips were really tasty. The falafel was very fresh, which probably explains why it took longer than I anticipated for the food to come out. Needed more lemon tahini dressing. The tabouli was good, but I thought the couscous lacked flavor. I also got a piece of pistachio baklava, but it was broken in two when I opened the bag :(. Last night however was disappointing. Brought home kefte kabob platter. When unwrapped the kabob, found both charred to burned. Cooks obviously didn't care how bad it would taste. I posted my feedback on their site contact page. Hadn't gotten ant response back. I love to come in and buy containers of the Mediterranean chicken salad, cabbage salad and chick pea salad to eat on during the week. I love how there are just enough options for hot and cold dishes, but not too many that makes it overwhelming. We got the 3 side platter with their popular lentil and caramelized onion salad, orzo salad and jalapeño cilantro hummus, and then a chicken skewer plate, with 2 different versions of chicken salad. I loved the lentil salad, the caramelized onions really carried it for me. The orzo was a little too lemony for me, I guess based on the green color I was expecting more of a pesto! The hummus was so delicious and green, that combined with the pita had me eating it for days. I also liked how the chicken salad was nutty with hints of grapes- I usually don't like western chicken salad but this one had a nice medley of flavors. The skewer and rice on its own had a nice char but a little dry, but having saucy sides balanced it out. Their process for taking orders is not effective. Which is apparent in the fact that my order was wrong. I ordered two kids pizzas and a chicken shawarma wrap. What was brought instead was kabab plate with the pizzas. When brought to the attention of staff I assumed it would be fixed. Instead nothing happened and when I asked about the status of my lunch it hadn't been started yet. So I asked for a refund and turns out the guy never wrote my order down. I would like you to take a moment to realize how bad customer service affects a business. This restaurant can survive on "best of" awards and word of mouth for only so long until the underlining bad management of your restaurants comes to light, and in the end, Sassool will just be another strip mall restaurant that nobody goes to. I had an employee so irritated with working here on a busy night, that when I was trying to ask her a question, rolled her eyes and put her head down on the counter to express her frustration. I was so embarrassed, I frantically ordered something I didn't even want. This is the THIRD time I have had a bad experience here due to your employees.
