Baba Ghannouj is an authentic Mediterranean casual spot that offers delicious kabob, lamb shank, and gyro plates. Went here for the first time on a rainy Sunday with my girl. Place was mostly filled when we entered, and we had a bit of a tough time to look at the menu of top of the cashier because of how it's positioned in front of a tight space between the order counter and a dining table, so we took 1 of their menu pamphlets instead and sat down. I got the $18 Lamb Kabob platter (2 skewers); my girl got the $16+ Lamb Shank (Moroccan style) platter. Both each comes with either salad or rice, pita bread, and 2 sides of out choice. We both chose baba ghannouj as a side, and I chose Tzatziki sauce while her other side is falafel (2 pieces). Both dishes were served fast. They called when both orders were ready for me to pick up the trays instead of bringing them to our table. They also forgot the falafel but when I asked, an employee served itvright away with a tiny plastic cup of creamy sauce. Lamb shank was served on a separate plastic plate from the rest of the platter. My girl was satisfied with the taste and size of the shank; I also tried it, and we thought the lamb was well-cooked and the brown sauce added flavor flawlessly. They surely know how to cook lamb right! My lamb kabob also tasted delicious, well-spiced, but we expected a bit more meat. I chose rice for the platter while my girl chose salad. Both rice and salad are standard for casual Mediterranean, tasted fresh. The bread and Tzatziki sauce also went well with our platters, and while the baba ghannouj also went well with the meal but we've tried better baba ghannouj before. It's not bad, just not the best. The side that really impressed us was the 2 pieces of falafel. We each ate one, and we enjoyed every bite. It was well-seasoned, well-cooked with perfect texture and flavors enhanced with the sauce that came with it. We craved for more falafels but our stomachs were already satisfied after devouring everything from our platters. While the ambiance and customer service of Baba Ghannouj weren't as good as we hoped, their authentic food quality is a major reason to return here. Plastic utensils without plastics covering them may turn off people concerned of sanitation, and the lack of photos in their menu suggest they don't prioritize customer service much, As I was driving home, I could still savor the pleasant aftertaste of delicious lamb and fresh falafel. The service was also so friendly in explaining everything, and they made sure you enjoyed the food. I visited during lunchtime, when they offer the buffet. There's two options, you can do the full buffet or just the vegetarian buffet which is slightly cheaper. When I went, they had several salad options (Greek and Kale) and two lentil soup options. There were also several tasty hummus and dips. I really enjoyed their eggplant which was tender and well seasoned. I think the number of food options, especially vegetarian were great. There's something for everyone here. Lastly, I loved the desserts offered. There was a spread of fresh fruit and baklava. There were plenty of cucumber peppers and onions and just a little lettuce (this was not a problem but the missing salad items was very disappointing!) Chicken kebab platter. Chicken was dry and not very flavorful. It also seemed like for two skewers there was very little chicken. Fortunately we got the cucumber sauce and that helped with the dryness of the chicken. I've tried lamb a few times at places and wasn't too thrilled with the taste but was pleased with this outcome. The slight char of the grill really set it off. The baba ghannouj was cold, which I wasn't expecting but I didn't mind. At first, I thought the cucumber dip could have a slight bit more flavor but after a few seconds the mint started to shine through which I found to be a welcome addition with the lamb. The beef was not tenderloin, it was large chunks and very tough to eat, reminiscent of stew meat. It had zero flavor. Not even a hint of spice, just cooked meat. I thought the platter came with a Greek salad but I got a bunch of white rice. Zero flavor across the board. For my sides I got the cucumber sauce and the baba ghannouj. The price recently went up from $40 to $45. I would say at $40 it was the king of cost effectiveness. 6 sides! Chicken kabob is great. Tastes good. Excellent lamb stick platter. Had it cooked medium and it was soft, juicy, and flavorful. I got hummus and the warm eggplant side dish. The tomatoes and grilled red onions were nice. The soft pita bread went well with both the hummus and eggplant. The eggplant had a slight touch of being cooked down too much with the tomatoe base, but still tasty. We don't get Mediterranean too often, but since Urban Turban in Cary closed, we've been going to Baba Ghannouj. Our first visit was when my daughter-in-law chose it after looking through reviews for local places. We tended trust her, as she is from Saudi Arabia. We were right to trust her as everything we've gotten from them has been delicious. When her parents came from Saudi to visit, she took them there Christmas Eve (as it was open and they are Muslim so not celebrating) and her father who is notoriously hard to please and does not hold back with his opinions loved every item the three of them ordered. My wife (from India) is addicted to the curry chicken. My favorites are all the lamb dishes (Lamb Shank, Lamb Kafka, and Lamb Kabob in that order). And my (young adult) children love the Shawirma. One of my sons has a limited palate, but loves the cheese steak. The only warning I'd give is for take out, you may want to call in your order rather than use the Beyond Menu. There are times the service has glitched for us and they didn't get the fax order and if you put special notes (like my son not wanting mayo on his cheese steak) the way it prints out for them it is easy to miss. I don't hold this against the restaurant (they've hustled to fill our order the two times it didn't turn up for them), but it's safer to go with a phone call or go in. read more

The lamb was tender and juicy and I loved both the hummus and tzatziki. I was also really impressed by the Greek salad. It was super fresh and they used GOOD feta unlike the vast majority of other Mediterranean restaurants. The only thing that bummed me out was that the meal didn't come with any pita bread.
