Dining in service is now available as of May 22, 2020, and our service was wonderful by Lauren on the patio. The restaurant itself is in a large, very old building, as most are in Thomasville. We chose to eat outside due to Coronavirus, but they were also practicing social distancing throughout the interior. Staff had on masks as well, and tables have a bottle of hand sanitizer on them. One of the staff even brought a portable air conditioner to our table outside. I ate pigtails, which are curled tater wedges. They were really good. Hubs had cup of gumbo, which was just ok. Nothing about the food really stood out for us on the menu...so snack and on to the next Yelp favorite. read more

Stopped in for dinner after touring the nearby Pebble Hill Plantation. Found this restaurant through a Yelp search. Plenty of parking available in their private lot. This restaurant is inside a refurbished train station...pretty cool venue! They have seating inside (smaller area) and tons of seating outside on the old train platform. The restaurant was clean and we were seated upon entering. We ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer. For entrees, the lunch portion shrimp etouffee with green beans and mushrooms, and the bayou platter with grilled shrimp, blackened grouper and cheesy plantain grits. The food was really good. The service was friendly enough, but not very attentive. There were quite a few staff working, but most seemed more interested in preparing for a large party coming in for dinner than the guests already dining. Overall, because of the cool venue and food quality, I would recommend. read more

The fries also weren't too starchy- there was enough seasoning on them to make them really addicting. Plus, they were very generous with a lunch portion! I would say the service was ok, and normally I would dock a star, but I know what the times are like these days so I understand. They are doing the best with what they have. I found nothing on the menu that appealed to me so I just got chicken salad. The server was slow but the place was packed. The rest of the 4 I dined with said their meal was just ok. Today was my second visit to Sass and I was as impressed as the first visit so I thought I should review. First trip my partner and I tried a bunch of apps- fried oysters, fried tomatoes, pimento dip. Everything was great, to be honest I'm not a fan of hot pimento dip for some reason but theirs is pretty dang good. Today we tried the Cajun shrimp appetizer, shrimp were perfect and the sauce was AMAZING! I do wish the French bread was toasted though. We also tried the bayou platter with fried oysters (loved them the first time so had to have them again) and blackened grouper with grits and greens. The meal was seriously delicious. We came early today so it wasn't as busy it the service was as great as when it is busy! I love that the outside dining area is right on the train tracks. I came here for Sunday brunch with a friend. What an interesting building! It's an old brick train station with a large covered area for outside seating. We decided to eat inside. Our server, a gentleman whose name I can't remember, was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits. When he took the first bite, his eyes rolled up into his head and moaned in a way that would make a parent cover their child's ears. I think he liked it! He also had the side of potato casserole which he said was delicious. It was almost too much food for him, but he persevered! I ordered the cajun breakfast skillet, hold the sausage. It had scrambled eggs, potatoes, cajun vegetables and two small crispy garlic bread slices. Our server said we could order any of the sides, so I had the sautéed asparagus spears. I don't know how any of it could have been been better! We were not charged extra for our sides. I wish they had a vegetarian option, but were very accommodating to my needs. One of the best places Thomasville has to offer! I was sold when I heard they had fried pickles on the menu. They were worth coming by themselves. We also got the cheesy beach bread as an app and it was delish. For entree, I got the grilled pork chop with peach chutney. Let me start by saying I did not order the shrimp and grits but it was a-fricking-mazing! I wanted to bury my face in my hubby's bowl and just make that creamy goodness disappear! The roux was darker and the flavors so well developed. It had a nice smokey flavor and the sausage was very mild with a hint of heat after. I had the blackened grouper, salad and collard greens. We all agreed that we have had better collard greens. Save your money on the cheese bread and go straight for the entrees. Exquisite food and excellent service in an incredible, beautifully renovated building. We went to Thomasville, Georgia for a day trip from Tallahassee for a some sightseeing. It's a very quaint little town, perfect for a stroll. It's only about a 45 minute drive from downtown Tallahassee. After a couple of hours of strolling through the historic downtown and seeing the Big Oak Tree, which is over 350 years old, we asked a local to recommend a place to have lunch. He recommended SASS which is next to the train tracks. I'm so glad we went. The food is southern/Cajun style deliciously made. We had the shrimp and grits with a side of collard greens, the baby back ribs with a side of cheese grits, a jambalaya rice and bread pudding and beignets for dessert. Everything was spot on! The service was very friendly and the vibe in the place is fantastic. I highly recommended this town for a visit and this restaurant for fantastic food. read more
