After wanting to eat at Jonah's for years, I finally made it today. At 11:15 the place was already bustling. I was promptly seated at a table for 1. My server immediately came to the table, brought me an unsweetened tea. I was torn between shrimp n grits or the Parmesan crusted black grouper. My said both were great. I chose the grouper. My entree arrived and it didn't disappoint. A large thick piece of grouper cooked perfectly surrounded by a crispy delicious crust. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and tender with a tasty sweet glaze. The greens were also on point - lots of bacon pieces and a sweet/spicy taste. Lunch came with a large crispy hush puppy. With tip - lunch was $50. A bit pricey - I don't mind paying top dollar for a top quality meal and service. Well done Jonah's! read more

A lot of hype. A LOT .... Lines around the block for this place. My wife's whole family raves about it. I have heard about this place for years and finally braved the lines. Not really worth the wait. Decent food. Friendly staff. But nothing super special. For Thomasville, I get it, but I live in Pensacola where there is a place like this on every corner. I had the grouper sandwich (blackened) and the fried green tomatoes for a starter. The FGTs were very good. The sandwich was average except that the ciabatta bun was exceptional. Cheese grits on the side were above average. Brussels sprouts were just like any bistro Brussels sprouts ever (man, I wish this trend would die, but I keep ordering them hoping to be surprised.) The place was PACKED (as usual) but the staff were friendly and attentive. For me, however, this is expected in any restaurant. Therefore: 3 stars for decent - if unimaginative- food and good service. Will not come back unless there is no line ... albeit an unlikely scenario. read more

If you're spending the day in Thomasville, Jonah's Fish & Grits is an ideal lunch stop. The interior is beautiful and welcoming, and the menu is very reasonably priced for the quality you get. While they're known for their legendary shrimp and grits, I decided to order the fried catfish instead. It was a great choice. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and tender, flaky inside. The sides were just as impressive and clearly prepared with care rather than treated as an afterthought. Every item on the plate showed real thoughtfulness and effort. This was easily one of the better meals I've had in a long time, and I'll definitely be back. Good job Jonah. read more

Family recommended Jonah's for our first visit to Thomasville, Georgia. We started with the Green Tomatoes which came out piping hot and delicious! Husband had the Crab Cakes which were perfectly cooked and full of Crab! I had the Shrimp & Grits which were full of vegetables(surprised by that), lots of delicious shrimp and creamy, smooth grits. The Wait staff from the front of the house to our waitress were delightful! They were slammed as it was Black Friday, but everyone acted like it was nothing special, just business as usual. Traveling and this was our first stop for the night. We were looking for seafood so chose there. Cute place downtown. We were here later and business was medium occupancy. I appreciate the concept and ambiance. Our server wasn't quiet on the ball but we weren't in a super hurry. We don't often try seafood when not close to water as we are frequently disappointed. We had the grouper bites and the fried shrimp with fries and hush puppies. The shrimp were lightly breaded which is perfect but they were over cooked and though butterflied they definitely weren't cleaned properly. The grouper was very fishy tasting so likely frozen not fresh, maybe. Hush puppies were tasty. They were larger but airy and we liked the flavor. Wouldn't have either of these again but would give it a shot for something else on the menu. read more

I finally got a chance to partake in a meal at Jonah's! Each time I've tried to go on the weekend, the line was just too long, and I ended up going to another great, local restaurant in Thomasville. This time, we were there within minutes of them opening, on a weekday, and were seated immediately. The inside area is not super spacious, but certainly adequate. Our waitress was awesome! However, it did seem that a couple of tables in which the customers came in after us, were served their entrees before we received ours. Not sure what happened here, but I will plan to go back again - if only to make sure this was a fluke. Great food is wonderful, but so is overall customer service - including the wait time for entrees. With all of this being said, everything was delicious!!! We started out with hushpuppies, followed by fried grouper bites, fried green tomatoes, cyclone shrimp, and clam chowder (basically sampled all of the appetizers). :-) Our entrees included shrimp and grits, catfish, salmon, and grouper. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Have never had anything we didn't like! The shrimp and grits are THE best and gingersnap salmon is wonderful. My husband got a grouper (market value) and said it was the best he's EVER had! He said he didn't ask the price beforehand and didn't care once he got the bill because it was THAT GOOD! We had a great lunch today. The front entrance was clean, well kept & inviting. The Christian music playing truly made it even better of an experience. As a spirit filled person, I felt the presence of God while enjoying my lunch date with my husband. We had a great waiter, Willie! He was very on top of our drinks & checking on us. He was super kind. Ordered these AMAZING Cyclopes shrimp appetizer & they were literally SO DELICIOUS! Perfect sauce amount as well as phenomenal batter. Very southern, great hushpuppies as a starter, delicious crab cake BLT. The grits were delicious too! Perfectly seasoned AND hot, fresh fries. We would absolutely recommend & go back! Thomasville is such a quaint Southern town. I'm driving thru headed East and it's always worth the stop. First time here and it was not a disappointment. So Good!! It's actually a big salad for being an upgraded side option. It's time for the dinner plate now!!! Ok wow. Blackened Black Grouper was cooked to perfection. Great heat in the spice. Fish glistening. Growing up in Tallahassee, I'd heard about Thomasville and the famous Jonah's Fish & Grits. In college, I used to try coming on weekends while visiting the family at home but the wait was always so long. There's a small back patio that we always sit in because I usually bring the pup with me to Thomasville. In the summer, it gets quite hot, and with heat and humidity comes flies... but they have recently invested in these fly fans (not sure what exactly they're called but that's what I'm calling them lol) and they work perfectly against the army of flies that try to attack while eating. Pro tip - don't let them forget your complementary hush puppies! Hush puppy refills cost extra. But they are so so good that if you're hungry, it's worth the extra $. My favorite dish is the shrimp & scallop pesto pasta. It's rich and heavy but so freaking good. The shrimp scampi is also a good option but not as flavorful as the pesto pasta. Also SCALLOPS FTW. Not a pasta fan? Try the shrimp and grits or the big fish grouper sandwich (get it blackened for the ultimate flavor explosion). 100% my go-to restaurant when I'm day-tripping to Thomasville! read more

EVERYTHING & I do mean EVERYTHING WE ATE WAS DELICIOUS!! If there's a word better than delicious, it's all that and more!! We ordered the Cyclone Shrimp. The shrimp was incredibly fresh and I loved that it wasn't heavily breaded! Also, the Crab Stuffed Salmon with Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes was scrumptious!! The salmon was super juicy and flavorful! The FGT Sandwich, a chicken sandwich with a fried green tomato and bacon was delicious as well. Really well done. Elevated comfort food with excellent sides. Grits were light and fluffy and not greasy, which is always a bonus.

Why? Why did you change? The menu including entrees, sides, & desserts is missing some of the best items that were there. The quality of food has not been the same great food that we were accustomed to getting. Changing the hushpuppy delivery is terrible. Getting them before your meal was always a treat with the sweet butter, but now coming with your meal without the sweet butter is NOT the same. The inability to upcharge an item for your side was nice, but now not an option. The shrimp quantity has decreased and has been way overcooked, tough and rubbery the last several visits. No mashed potatoes (which were delish) are no more. The grilled pineapple chicken - no more. Peanut butter pie - it's gone too. Crab bisque - poof! We made the drive from Tally because we always enjoyed dining there so much. It's not the same and frankly not worth the drive anymore. Before it was a treat, but can't say the same now. Spectacular food and great service! The restaurant is located in the very quaint Thomasville, GA historic center. There is indoor and outdoor dining available. The outdoor dining is in a very beautiful alleyway, lush with trees and outdoor plants which canopy provide a lot of shade. I went by myself and sat inside. I had fried green tomatoes to start, because when in the south, you gotta have them.. as well as sweet tea. As the main dish I had the black grouper with a side of grits and vegetables. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky and the grits were creamy and delicious! I definitely will be coming back to try some other delicious looking items on the menu. Many thanks to the waitress for keeping my glass full of sweet tea because I was very thirsty! Only thing I wish would change is the music selection. I'm not a big fan of Christian music. Having long moved away from the North Florida / South Georgia area, anytime we have an opportunity to pass through town, Jonah's is on our list of "must visit" restaurants. Thomasville is charming in its own right, but the southern hospitality just pours out of the front door of Jonah's Fish &Grits. Imagine living in a real life scene from "Sweet Magnolia's". That's it. You are there. Step through their front door and you are transported back in time to when people used their manners, people held the door for you, people said yes ma'am and no ma'am, people said please and thank you, people smiled, and a time when the food was so good you feel giddy. Upon arrival, the restaurant was in the throes of the lunch rush but that didn't stop them from finding a table for us immediately. Our server was an absolute gem and as I looked at every table around hours, I saw nothing but smiling faces and happiness. We ordered the fried dill pickles and had to stop ourselves from eating the entire plate. We both got the catfish entree for lunch and immediately remembered why we love this place so much. The food arrived so hot I had to blow on it. Is that appropriate table manners for a proper southern girl? Absolutely not, but I was starving and it's just smelled so good I didn't want to delay the first bite. Sadly we can only visit every year or so, but it doesn't matter, when we do it's always as good as the last time. Take a moment to sit a bit, order a sweet tea, eat some catfish, do some good old fashioned southern people watching, and enjoy southern hospitality at its finest. By 5:00, there was a crowd. I knew then it had to be good! The complimentary hush puppies with sweet butter were good. The Corn Clam Chowder was brought out promptly after my order and it was steaming hot--how it should be. The Classic Shrimp & Grits were divine. Saturday night at 6 PM we sat down with five people. The items that were 86 were grouper bites, crab, cakes, grilled or blackened shrimp, fish, and chips. I ordered the black and shrimp with two sides of a sauce. Since that was 86 no longer available at 6 PM. I asked if I could get sautéed shrimp with the lemon and white wine reduction that was offered as a sauce. I was told no multiple times when I asked.. the fish and grits have sautéed shrimp, so why couldn't my shrimp be sautéed? I really did not want to eat fried shrimp or anything fried, since I have a heart condition and don't want to eat the fried food. Zero flexibility and willingness to accommodate your dining guests. Whatever happened to Customer service and anything is possible? I've been in this industry for 45++ years, I am a ACF certified executive chef, I have been at the corporate level and have had top 10 restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia, and Delray Beach . I am not new to the industry . four items 86'd at 6 PM on a Saturday night, Poor kitchen planning and inventory management. Very disappointed with the flexibility of the kitchen staff.
