We stumbled upon this place after not wanting to wait the long wait at our fave spot, Jonah's. It was sort of hard to tell if it was open or not but we quickly learned that it was and decided to give it a try. It looked pretty empty upon walking in, but that's also because the layout is interesting. Our server was nice, when we saw him which wasn't much. Food wise, it could've been better but again, wasn't the absolute worst. I did the build a sampler with 3 items from the appetizer menu to include fried cheese sticks, fried calamari, and popcorn shrimp. The calamari was unseasoned and I didn't like the breading. The cheese sticks seemed to use old cheese. The shrimp were pretty okay, I'd probably get those if I were to go back again. My mom had a boil with just headless shrimp that came with corn and potatoes. I had her corn and it was not done enough or seasoned well. Overall, the experience could've been better.

We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. Our server was super nice, and very patient as we went over the menu deciding what to order. Unfortunately, aside from the seafood boils, there are no items on the menu that include broiled/grilled/blackened, etc. food items. Almost everything is fried! Note, there is salad and a small number of veggies on the menu. But, it is ok to "indulge" every now and then! :o) My mom ordered the Flounder with coleslaw and sweet potato fries; I had shrimp tacos and sweet potato fries. My daughter and one of my sisters both ordered the shrimp and sausage boil; and my other sister had catfish, shrimp, and cajun fries. We started the meal off with the sampler (cheese sticks, chicken fingers, shrimp, hushpuppies). We also ordered the beignets (two orders) and decided to have those come out with the appetizers! Sometimes, it is good to eat your dessert first! LOL! All in all, we enjoyed our meal; everything tasted fresh and was really good. There was a minor issue with my check/bill, but the manager resolved it quickly. Though this restaurant will probably not be on my list of "favorites" (due to the menu full of fried items), I am sure I will visit another time just to try one of the seafood boils. However, I will certainly recommend this place to others - especially those who are in the mood for fried foods.

My server immediately came to the table, brought me an unsweetened tea. I was torn between shrimp n grits or the Parmesan crusted black grouper. My said both were great. I chose the grouper. My entree arrived and it didn't disappoint. A large thick piece of grouper cooked perfectly surrounded by a crispy delicious crust. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and tender with a tasty sweet glaze. The greens were also on point - lots of bacon pieces and a sweet/spicy taste. Lunch came with a large crispy hush puppy. With tip - lunch was $50. A bit pricey - I don't mind paying top dollar for a top quality meal and service. Well done Jonah's!

Not really worth the wait. Decent food. Friendly staff. But nothing super special. For Thomasville, I get it, but I live in Pensacola where there is a place like this on every corner. I had the grouper sandwich (blackened) and the fried green tomatoes for a starter. The FGTs were very good. The sandwich was average except that the ciabatta bun was exceptional. Cheese grits on the side were above average. Brussels sprouts were just like any bistro Brussels sprouts ever (man, I wish this trend would die, but I keep ordering them hoping to be surprised.) The place was PACKED (as usual) but the staff were friendly and attentive. For me, however, this is expected in any restaurant. Therefore: 3 stars for decent - if unimaginative- food and good service. Will not come back unless there is no line ... albeit an unlikely scenario.

Harper's Seafood Market

It's a great place to buy fresh water fish or salt water seafood. I find most fish to be fresh and…read moresomewhat reasonably priced. The brim or blue gill fish come from Lake Okeechobee in Florida and are all tagged. Under current laws, they cannot buy your fish unless you are licensed to sell. Shrimp may be from the Florida gulf or Louisiana. But it is all good. They will clean the shrimp anyway you want it. I like mine off the shell with the tail on and deveined. You will want to wash them one more time at home to remove any leftover residues. Mostly I go to buy shrimp and it's always good. I get the jumbo shrimp to cook on the grill. Cleaning of your shrimp is done while you wait. It doesn't take long. They also do a great job at cleaving the fish you catch. They charge $1 a pound and if you want the skin off the filets they it's $2 a pound. It's really not worth the mess and effort to do it yourself. Just let them do it. Expect to leave your ice chest with them. Depending on how busy they are and the time of the day, it could be ready the same day or the next morning. They accept all major credit and debit cards. They will give you ample ice with any order. Whether you are buying or just getting cleaned. They Lao have frozen seafood as well but some of that might be imported which I never buy. All employees are very courteous. They will be glad to help you carry your ice chest to and from your vehicles. Harper's has a huge wholesale business in the back with semi-trucks that delivery seafood all over the place. This is not a small operation. They know seafood. They buy it on their trips as well. I have posted some priced which were effective Sep 2019. I recommend Harper's.

I like several hours away and travel back to visit family/friends. I became aware of St. James simply by riding by and seeing the crowd the night before. The next day my parents and I chose to dine. The restaurant is beautiful and the kitchen is perfect for the proteins they serve. Flaunting a wood fire stove as well as a traditional pizza oven. The bar is well stocked and lit well, becomes a nice focus point in the dinning room area. Our reservation was for 5:30pm and they legit dont open the doors until 530 lol we were sat immediately and waited on. The server was nice and very accommodating. We shared the Brussels sprout appetizer and it was uniquely plated. Shredded seasoned well and presented in a circle topped with pecorino Cheese. Seasoning was well (4.5/5) a little lemon zest or juice would make this a 5. My mother had and enjoyed the waygu burger and rated it (4/5). My father and I had ribeyes, his well down, mine medium well. NOW, the steak was good. Well seasoned and cooked to temp. BUT, it was the smallest $90 steak I've ever seen lol . I give it 5/5 on taste, but value for money 3/5. A nice touch would be to blow torch the butter on top of the steak as mine was cold and ended up not melting. Im thrilled a restaurant like this exist in my city. I literally grew up minutes away from this restaurant on Raleigh Avenue. Yall pull up and keep em busy! Lets support fine dinning in the ville!
