I always enjoyed going to Sarku Japan in San Francisco. My favorite mall food for years. It's simple and it's delicious noodles , chicken, and shrimp. Hanging in Downtown San Francisco area it's a good value and does the job for me when I get hungry. Nothing fancy and that is just the way I like it sometimes.

Where you place your order

Never heard of this place! I mean of course I haven't I am never in SF but now working out here from time to time I'm getting to taste all of SF foodie places! This is located at the mall in SF super big and the food court in at the bottom floor. My coworker was talking about this place saying she loves this place it's always her go to! So my coworkers and I decided to walk over and give this place a shot. I ordered a shrimp and chicken plate which came with veggies and white rice all for the price of $10.99. Which is a good deal especially out here in SF since very thing is overpriced out here. I got myself my drink, the Fuze iced raspberry tea...yummmm! It total it came out to be $15. I love how they cook your food right in front of you and you are able to see how they cook your food. One of my coworkers got the same thing I did but instead of rice she got garlic noodles for 75c more. I tried it for myself and man that was sooo good definitely have to have that next time. My food was soooo delicious I couldn't finish it all because it's sooo filling and saved the rest of my food for later. But it was so juicy, mixing with chicken rice veggies and shrimp together was so flavorful and with sriracha just tired it all perfectly together!!! So glad my coworker showed me this place because it so good and hit the spot!! Definitely will always keep this plain mind whenever I'm in SF again!!

I used to come here all the time. I tried their chicken bento again and this time it was a let down. The chicken didnt taste that good. The potstickers and California roll were good. The roll with avocado, tempura shrimp and cream cheese was ok. It was about $23 total. Food quality might have been lacking since it was near closing time

Chicken and shrimp over rice

Super affordable meal at the food court. There is a glass screen where you can see the chefs make your food on the grill in front of you. There was a crowd waiting to get their food, but it was going fast. I ordered, got my utensils and my food in about 5 minutes; talk about efficiency. There is a shared eating space where you need to show proof of vaccination and is clean for the most part. I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo over rice which was a little more than $11 after tax. It came with a base of rice and a side of veggies which consisted of broccoli and sliced carrots. Simple and tasted as I expected. I thought there would be more shrimp, but there were only 4 or 5 shrimp pieces; it was mostly just chicken.

I ordeered double chicken twice now and it came like this last time. It seemss like they always imp at this location. The workers are rude and they it seems like they don't want to feed u. Idk how this is double chicken. I pad 14$ for what.

Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll, Gyoza, and Unrecoverable Veggies. 2/5.

To my understanding Sarku is actually a chain like Panda Express.. except for American-Japanese food that doesn't taste good. Today we have some edible chicken, decently rolled california rolls, and very fried gyoza... unfortunately, any salvation from this meal is instantly undermined by the frozen, unsalted, boiled veggies.

Had the Bento box for about $13. Pretty mid food, vegetables were not fresh and California roll is bland. Rice and chicken were fine If you want Asian food, would just recommend going to the Panda express next door

Sarku is at Westfield downtown. They have bento boxes for $13. Comes with California roll gyoza veggies rice meat or shrimp. Got three piece shrimp tempura. Went with my mom. Pretty good not too expensive.

The food was very good for fast food. As you are ordering, there's a guy making you plate. The food tastes good and is well seasoned. They will give you extra sauce if you ask. The service was good but very fast. There is no ambiance. The sarku Japan is in the food court.

I was sitting looking for food for two hours on my phone at work. I seen somebody's post on. This was the perfect box with everything in it so I ordered it and it's good and fulfilling

I ordered ahead on DoorDash for pickup. When I went to pick up my food, they asked for my name, which I told them. They also asked for proof of my name via DoorDash. Unfortunately, DoorDash didn't show my name on the receipt which made picking up the food a bit frustrating. On the bright side, we were able to clear the confusion and I got my food. The chicken teriyaki had both a nice crisp to it while also being tender. Likewise with the shrimp. The shrimp tempura was both light and crispy at the same time, definitely enjoyed it. The chicken teriyaki rolls were overall decent too (psst.... their sushi rolls are usually 8 pcs, but they gave me 10, yay.) If you're craving quick sushi or grilled Japanese-style food, this is a solid option.

Consistent hot food. Period. Only major issue I have with this place is it takes quite a bit of time for them to cook the orders, BUT I totally understand the reason why. There tends to be a HUGE line during the commute/lunch hours and it seems they move even slower during those times. Staff isn't super friendly but they aren't necessarily rude either. Quick, good quality lunch for anyone.

It is one of my favorite choices during lunch time. The process of check is simple and quick. And the meal size is enough big for me and tastes good.

Something was really off with the timing and service. First of all, we arrive at 6:30 pm, along with maybe 6 other groups who also have reservations. There is one hostess who checks everyone's IDs and it takes like 5 mins per party to get seated so this takes about 15 minutes before we can even sit down (with a reservation). It was a really weird and not well thought out beginning with everyone crowding into the lobby. Why don't they have more hostesses, or someone else checking IDs, or just move more quickly, or have staggered seating times? The chicken wings were absolutely delicious but it's so weird they don't give you a towel or wet wipes afterward for your sticky hands (I read the chronicle review and apparently they used to do this so not sure why not any more). Then we asked them to send the burger after our donburi and wings and there was a very long wait in between so they were really not on top of things. It feels like they have Michelin aspirations and it's so beautiful and showy, and the food was truly delicious. The service was polite. But it's expensive ($250 for two people with drinks but sharing 3 small dishes), and the timing and initial wait to sit was extremely off putting. I own a bar and wouldn't want my guests having this experience. Edited to add that my husband was appalled at the wasteful amount of cheese that is poured onto the burger plate.... It's delicious but no way anyone is eating that much cheese and it's not something you're going to take home. Now, this is more of his thing but I see what he means. The sizzling plate could be smaller and have less food waste (also better for the restaurants profits!).

So glad this neighborhood finally has an AYCE sushi spot, and at a price that actually makes sense…read more For $40 a person you are getting a serious deal. One tip: get there early. The place fills up around 6pm so arriving ahead of that will save you a wait. They don't take reservations, so first come first served. The ordering experience is really smooth. Everything is done through an iPad at your table and the food comes out to you. They won't let you place a new order until your previous one has been delivered, which honestly is a smart system and helps with pacing so you don't over order right out of the gate. What sets this place apart from other AYCE spots is the variety. It's not just sushi. You can also order appetizers, salmon, teriyaki chicken and more, so there's something for people who want to mix it up beyond rolls. Delicious, easy, affordable and in the neighborhood. Highly recommend!

The ambiance was really nice outdoors, nice lighting and cute for a summer night. Every dish felt intentional and was executed well both presentation and taste, it's a great way to try different dishes all at once, and I will definitely be back to try more à la carte items. My favorite was the sashimi, katsu, and hojicha panna cotta. The cocktails (Ichigo and some other one) were not as memorable, although the option sake pairing looked interesting for those who enjoy! Service was also impeccable, they even served us complimentary sparkling wine for our special day! :) I would say this is semi formal vibe, and 100% need reservations on weekend.

After noticing Rintaro on quite a few "Top Restaurants in…read moreSF"-sort of lists, we had to give it a try. Initially, we were expecting a purely upscale vibe, but it actually threads the needle quite well between high-end and casual. The portions are somewhat tapas style, so we ordered multiple dishes. Everything was good! They seem to be able to execute simple dishes VERY well. The varieties of yakimono and the house-made tofu were particularly special. Our waitress made some great suggestions and got the amount of food right for our party. I would recommend going out of your way to try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Overall, the quantity of food made it feel like a very reasonable value for high-end dining in San Francisco, and I would definitely return. The Courses & Food - Edamame Surinagashi (Silky Edamame Dashi soup with deep-sea red crab and caviar): Unfortunately, this first soup was a bit of a miss for me. It felt bland and needed salt; I was hoping the caviar would bring a pop of saltiness, but I couldn't taste it. - Otsumami (Seven kinds of seasonal Japanese appetizers): Served on a beautiful tray that I wished I could take home! Highlights included a squid dish in a savory black soup liquid that was so delicious I drank every last drop. The egg roll avocado bite was also fantastic--warm, crisp, and savory. However, the wagyu piece on the tray was quite dry, and while everyone else enjoyed their toro, mine came out noticeably stringy. - Four kinds of Sushi: These nigiri courses were phenomenal--even as someone who isn't a huge fan of wasabi, I devoured every piece. Highlights like the toro, eel, and amberjack were all outstanding. - Wanmono "Hamo Shinjo Soup" (Delicate Japanese pike eel "Hamo" dumpling in clear umami dashi soup): The fish cake dumpling soup had good flavor, though by this point I was starting to get full and couldn't finish the broth. - Four kinds of Sushi: Continued the streak of incredible nigiri bites. Mains Choice (A5 Oita Wagyu vs. Mehikari Kara-age): We split the two options across our party. The Mehikari Kara-age (shiny green-eyed fish fried crispy) was about 6 inches long, similar to a large sardine, but very meaty. It was battered and fried to absolute perfection--light, crispy, and paired with an amazing seasoning salt. WOW. - The A5 Oita Wagyu blew the previous wagyu appetizer completely out of the water. Both mains were on the smaller side, but given the total volume across 18 courses, we left completely full. - Four kinds of Sushi: The final sushi round was incredible. Surprisingly, my favorite bite wasn't a standard fish maki, but the uni--and I don't even normally like uni! Miso Soup & Sweets: A solid, comforting end to the meal. Service & Experience The staff was warm, welcoming, and polite throughout the evening. However, there were a few minor operational hiccups for a restaurant of this caliber: champagne was initially served in the wrong glassware, and a couple of dishes were placed on the table oriented backward. More noticeably, one of our main courses was delayed by about 10 minutes after everyone else's arrived, leaving our table in an awkward spot wondering whether to start eating or wait. Despite those small missteps, the service was genuinely friendly, the food was extremely generous for 18 courses at $210, and we had a great overall evening.
