Blair came to discuss our pruning project: multiple trees including an old lemon tree. He made many helpful suggestions and even told us one tree didn't need pruning. (I took this as a positive, a sign of his experience and integrity.) I hadn't been told by his scheduler that he has a minimum job fee, but the work he identified he could do to get us up to his minimum was a fit with things we had on a "we're going to get to it" list. We had met Blair years ago and found him to be an extremely knowledgeable arborists. He and his staff were excellent contractors and did some pruning our two coastal redwood trees. During a recent landscape remodel our contractor recommended that we have our back yard Tristania Laurina and Japanese Maple pruned. Lucy from Saratoga Tree Service serviced us this time. Blair Glenn is the most experienced arborist that I have spoken to. Many tree companies claimed they are certified but they are certified for tree services not certified arborist. Blair's advice is based on his near 50 years of experience, and he is courteous and professional. He advised me not to trim or touch several of my trees and explained the reasons. This review has been long overdue, but better late than never. Blair is an amazing arborist and a kind and honest businessman. Back in 2016, we received a few bids for taking down a liquid amber that was too close to our house and trimming trees at two properties (including a few very large trees). We went with Saratoga tree service because we were very impressed by Blair's knowledge on how to care for trees and that his price was very reasonable. We were so glad that we did. Blair and Lucy showed up on time, did a beautiful job and cleaned up nicely afterwards. He also left us some firewood per our request, neatly stacked. Fast forward to today, I called him to check out my trees again. He was so generous with his knowledge and time. Not only did he provide me with a lot of valuable suggestions on how to take care of the trees, he also gave me many great ideas for my landscape project. I learned a ton from talking to him. Blair really cares about the long-term health of the trees rather than rushing a job for short term looks. I'm sad to say that Saratoga Tree Service has gone the way of many other contractors. When they get busy, they aren't interested in smaller jobs. Blair had done some work for us at our previous house and they did beautiful work on our Modesto Ash Trees, which looked very sad before he performed his magic. After he pruned them, they flourished. Fast forward to Nov. 2016 when I called him to look at our overgrown street trees and another overgrown tree up close to our current house. He convinced me that I should not hard prune them, but that I should pay him $300 for a light trim just to clean them up a bit and as he put it "let them be trees". That was on a Friday. I called him the following Monday morning and left a voicemail saying that I wanted to go forward with his recommendation. I have yet to hear back and it is now Feb 3rd, 2017. read more

I have many large oak trees on property and have had them trimmed multiple times over the years. I went with Saratoga Tree Service because Blair said I could hire his team (3) for the day @ $75.00 / hour per man which seemed reasonable. He did mention that I would need to pay for their travel time so I assumed 1/2 hour each way. They showed up at 8:30 and got working about 8:45. I was in and out that day and was shocked they took a 70 minute lunch break. They just sat in their truck. When I returned home at 3 PM 2 were mulling around the truck and one was using the blower. They were gone by 3:30. I was shocked frankly. So in reality you are paying each person in excess of $100/hour for actual work and they do not move very fast when working. Pace is pretty slow. So i feel mislead as to the actual work hours performed for $1800/day. In reality I got about 5.5 hours of work vs my expected 8 hours less one hour travel time. In addition to this, they dropped a large branch on my clay tile roof and broke 3 tiles. They said I could find a roofer that knew how to repair these types of roofs and they thought there was no risk of a leak. No offer whatsoever to help with this. Just a sorry and things happen..... There were also multiple medium size branches left down the back slope of yard and in various bushes. They also left a rake. Obviously they were in a hurry to leave on a Friday. My wife and I had to clean them up, I took pictures in case Blair wanted to see. I sent 2 emails to Blair at email address listed on website outlining my concerns. No response 20 days later. They did bill me and showed bill outstanding even though I gave them a check when they finished. I left a message that I paid them, did they lose check? Blair left message he had check and team thought they had a "productive day." Blair was on site at 8:30 but never came back. No response to any other concerns listed in email. Very disappointing as I waited about 5 weeks for them to perform work and was hoping I could find a service I could schedule for a couple of days each year to maintain the trees. read more

We recently hired Saratoga Tree Service to Prune a large Chinese Elm and remove a large Cedar Tree that was dangerously close to our house and was hanging over both our house and our neighbors house. The crew was on time, courteous and professional. They did an amazing job on the Chinese Elm, preserving the canopy and beauty of the tree while removing the weight. The Cedar was a monster with a narrow work space between the houses and the power wires to the house in close proximity, the crew did a masterful job bringing it down a piece at a time taking great care not to damage plants or property. When finish there was no evidence the tree was ever there and left my property cleaner that it was when they started! Blair Glen is an outstanding arborist. I was told by more than one tree service rep that I had one of the largest Monterey Pine trees in my backyard left in Saratoga. After bids and interviews with several I chose Saratoga Tree Service to remove the tree that we calculated was more than 68 years old and more than 45 feet tall. The base of the tree was almost 6 feet in diameter. His crew worked almost non-stop for 3 full days, and came back today to take down the trunk. Blair estimated the weight of the trunk alone to be about 15000 pounds. They took this whole tree down without breaking one plant under it. Milled wood from the trunk in my yard and cleaned the area well. I recommend Blair and his crew for any tree work that you might have. He is professional, prompt, pleasant, and really took care of his crew. His price was competitive too. I must add that there was not easy access to this tree either. Arlene B read more

Saratoga Tree Service was absolutely awesome and I would highly recommend them. I had called Blair out in March to discuss trimming my enormous oak tree which I had trimmed 7 years prior. I was not that happy with the arborist I had used at that time, and was really hoping to find someone I could trust with my huge Live Oak tree. He was at my house for somewhere between 1-2 hours, discussing the tree at which time he recommended calling him back to trim the tree after the rains stopped for reasons that were much better for the tree. He didn't even charge me for the initial consultation which was amazing enough because that alone was very informative. I finally had him out to take care of my tree. The two gentleman that work with Blair were very knowledgeable and worked totally efficiently. Blair also assisted with the enormous clean up. The price was fantastic. He was very honest in his assessment, and recommendations concerning my tree. I look forward to working with him again. Saratoga Tree Service has a business phone number that they never answer, and when you leave a message for them, your calls are not returned. I called Lucy directly and she set up an appointment for the owner of the company to come by and check out our tree on a Friday morning. After waiting for an hour for someone to show up, I left a message for the owner asking about out appointment. Later that day Blair (the owner) returned my call and said he was sorry for not showing up, he was not informed by Lucy about the appointment, and said he would stop by in the afternoon on that day to give me an estimate for tree removal. I waited all afternoon, evening came, and no one had showed up. So they missed two appointments made with us on the same day. I'm taking my business elsewhere to a company that respects their potential clients time, and are interested in earning money. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more
