The fries are awesome - we had the truffle and curry fries. Wait service was excellent. We like that they had parking behind the building. I try not to rag on servers because I know I could never do what most serves do, but this waitress was putting in bare minimum effort. Its all things I could get past, if the only reason we went was for their slice deal that was advertised on their website. A dollar and some change for two slices sounded like a steal. We sat down and waiting a bit for our server to come over. We placed drink orders and waited a bit (roughly 15 minutes). When our drinks arrived, we informed our waitress that we were looking to do the slice deal. No sooner did our words leave our mouths, she instantly stated "oh we just stopped doing the slice deal. Okay not a problem. We ended up ordering our pizza's and went on with the night. The issue really highlighted when most people that were coming in were looking for the same deal. The deal never stated that there was a limited supply or an end time. I was surprised that they weren't telling people or advertising that the deal was no longer going on. The deal was dine in only and then I had to wonder, how hard would it be to make a pizza and divvy up the slices? The food came out at a decent time but after waiting for drinks and waiting for our waitress to come back to take our order, we were roughly an hour in. Multiple tables had gotten up and left without ever seeing a waitress. It is disappointing because we love the pizza but we will not do sit down service again after this experience. I would stick to take out.

My friends' son got a cheeseburger - without cheese. I think our server misunderstood when he said, "I would like a plain cheeseburger". He didn't want tomato, lettuce, or onion, but he wanted a cheeseburger. The kids menu didn't include the same veggie sides - the kids wanted corn but that wasn't allowed? I got the baked stuffed haddock, a baked potato, and squash. My friends all got the turkey dinner. You didn't get butter with your baked potato unless you asked for it. (Maybe this was a way to save money and supplies?) One friend ordered the baked potato with butter and sour cream. Perhaps they didn't have sour cream and just didn't want to tell us. I found it interesting there were no dinner rolls. We ordered dessert around 1:10 pm. We waited; and waited. Come to find out - our dessert slips had been lost. My friends' daughter ordered chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and she got chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. My bill was correct. My friends - not so much. This review is challenging because I always spend the holiday with my family but I just moved back to the area and was graciously invited to lunch with my dear friends. They were so busy and I know we are all grateful to have had this option of eating out on this holiday. I felt bad for all those people waiting to be seated because they were so behind schedule. We were seated at 12:10 and left at 14:00. Maybe this was a test run for the owners of the restaurant. Practice makes perfect! Thank you for your kindness and meal. The seafood stuffing was very good. I enjoyed the grape nut custard pie, as well. I wish you all a happy holiday season. The staff were kind - just overwhelmed. We had a great time, though. The atmosphere was fun and relaxing for us.

So we had to make decisions on what to eat. I decided to start with the onion soup followed by the steak of the day (16 oz strip) with mashed potatoes and side salad. My wife selected the baked stuffed haddock with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. This was after going through a long list of vegetables that they were out of. The restaurant itself was quiet and comfortable with few people in the area where we were sitting. Which left us puzzled when it took 20 minutes for my soup to arrive and another 15 minutes for our dinner. Every thing was cooked as ordered but my steak was cool to the touch and the gravy for my potatoes terrible (sent back and stayed with just butter). My soup was only passable; the broth was thin and needed seasoning and the bread used was barely adequate (and certainly not croutons). It had been a long time since we had been to Stratford Farms and while I still like the ice cream I think we'll probably pass on the restaurant.

The restaurant was not too busy on arrival, but then a steady stream of diners streamed in, as well as a brisk pace of take out orders. So many dumpling and Bao dishes, I was tempted to just have those, but also wanted to try a noodle dish. Xiao Long Bao and soup dumplings were delicious, and I absolutely want to return to work deeper into the dumplings here. For the noodle dish, we opted for Seafood Maloney, which was an assortment of seafood with glass noodles. This dish wasn't my favorite, had a fair amount of shrimp, but not much else, and wasn't a flavor that I loved. Next time, will try a more traditional noodle dish. I always feel so much better after visiting Stalk-it's a light in the darkness, when things feel so…read moredark that you feel swallowed up by it. A cook, myself, I've been held prisoner in jobs that make one feel discouraged due to indifference and laxity. Eating here, taking in the pride of craft and respect for the clientele makes me realise that places -and people-do exist that truly care about about the customer and strive to make them forget their lives outside the comforting walls of this restaurant. We shared a couple of apps: a crispy-skin chicken leg, indeed crispy and as usual, perfectly cooked, as usual. there are few greater pleasures in life like chicken that is juicy and cooked with an expert hand. It came with excellent ricotta mashed potatoes so good my daughter-who normally refuses to eat mashed potato-had to be fended off with my fork so Dad could swipe a couple forkfuls! The dark, flavorful sauce complimented both the meat and the potatoes. We also got the charred Halloumi cheese with pork belly with sweet and sour grapes and a whiff of finely chopped sage, again having to fend off my daughter for my portion...I was detecting a trend here... For the main courses, my wife got the Black Cod with nicely browned fingerling potatoes and braised cabbage/asparagus. She rarely ate unbreaded fish until Stalk introduced her to exquisitely cooked and seasoned fish filets. My daughter got the mushroom and eggplant kofta with a superb cashew hummus and grilled pita that was cooked with love-grilled enough to get grill marks, but not so long as to cook the life out it-they were still soft and fluffy, with just enough crisp to make scooping the hummus practicable. I got, against my usual practice of eating through the menu (as much as possible during a recipe cycle) to get the Sweet Potato Cavatelli-this is one of those dishes that I could never get often enough. the pasta dishes here are unfailingly excellent, with little culinary surprises in every one-this one, for me, in a dish with sausage AND pork belly no less, the unifying surprise is the Balsamic black butter! It just made every bite taste,,,right, perfectly complimenting the dish and making a delightfully whole flavour profile that one would not, perhaps, expect at a first blush. Taken with the Almond Romesco, it gave a slightly sweet, acidic depth that woke and gratified my palate. Again, as a cook, I appreciate the care and consideration on display that a dish such as this displays. It makes me happy... Our desserts, sadly a harbinger of the meals' approaching end, left us with a nice parting glow-the Coconut Rice pudding-with a mango compote, ginger candied cashews and flashy cherry crisps was nice, light finisher, as was the, wait for it, English pea Mojito ice cream. This follows the Mad Scientist-esque genius of Stalk's ice creams. The unbridled exuberance on display with the ice cream flavours, always makes me lean towards the ice creams over many other fine and tempting desserts...this was no exception. The peas provided a subtle pea flavor, the chill mellowing the flavor we typically associate with peas, but not losing it, is worth a victory lap on its own. The zest of lime and a nicely chiffonaded mint layered on the finishing touches without overtaking the finish, a sign of the practiced hands at work. I also must make mention of the French Press coffee service, there is truly no better way to take your coffee than via a French Press, it is so very nice to indulge in this simple life pleasure outside of my own kitchen... I would be terribly remiss if I didn't give a shout out to the staff-from the exceedingly professional and courteous staff, to the bartender who was very engaging and free with her smiles all night, the professionals preparing our dinner, who deserve much credit for turning Chefs' vision into delicious and intruiging plates of food for all of us to enjoy, and finally to Chef Nicole, who is everywhere making sure everything is running as smooth as possible, yet taking the time to chat with the patrons whenever possible. Our trips to Stalk are almost a pilgrimage-a reminder that cooking can be a joy, and that striving for that goal of making the diner perhaps, through the care and excellence of the food and its preparation, make them forget the nonsense outside the walls of the restaurant for even just an hour or so. This a lofty and noble goal, and one, for this diner, is always met. I hope it is for you, as well

We had had a great server who paced our dishes perfectly. There are multiple ways to approach dinner here as they offer a variety of small and large plates. We chose a couple of small plates to start and sample, followed by an entree each. Plenty of food as the portions were generous. We ended up taking home part of each entree for lunch the next day. I tried the Huli Huli chicken buns, hoping for a little bit of Hawaii flavor, and these were delicious. They are priced individually so you can order as many as you like. I thought one was a reasonable appetizer portion. Unfortunately, the Cavatelli was sold out, but they offered another delicious pasta in it's place. I had the Plum Char Sui Pork, again a generous portion of melt in your mouth pork. Lots of that delicious five spice flavor, which hit all the right notes. Perhaps a bit too much of the sauce for me, but this was a delicious plate and I thought reasonably priced as compared to many other restaurants lately.
